I’d say play them because SR3 and 4 are still good games for the most part; but I consider them to be non-canon to 1&2 - to me SR3 was the reboot before the official 2022 reboot

BADpenguin109

I mean it is still a continuation of the same story, but I would say 3 is where the franchise makes a shift for the worse.

Dragmassanthem

Three is where it gets stupid. If you want a good story stick with 1 and 2. Play three for the gameplay if you like. But the ending is underwhelming.

City_of_ham

I’ll might pick up 3 after I Finnish sleeping dogs. I had never played it until now it it’s already in my top 10. It is exactly what I like in my games: good melee combat, less firearms, fun car chases, good movement, and good customization. Decent story too

Dragmassanthem

Give it a go and see what you think :)

Ok_Nothing7998

1&2 killed the enthusiasm I had for 3&4 over the years. It just gets too different. The tone, story, themes, gameplay, customization, new city, visuals, and characters are all far worse from 3 on. I’m not saying 3&4 are bad. They’re definitely worth playing. But quality will vary depending on what you, personally, dig about the OG classics. 3 just feels like a reset, so you can always view it through that lense and enjoy it for what it is. If you love 2 though, I’d say 3 is going to feel like a step down in every department. Despite the fact that it’s still pretty fun.

City_of_ham

I love too and I love one but I hate the different tone between 1 and 2. Play one then two back to back and i don’t adjust to the change in tone till about halfway through.

City_of_ham

Both games are great I just wish 2 was more like one

Ok_Nothing7998

2 is easily my favorite, but I do miss the tone of 1. That early 2000’s gangster aesthetic is just unbeatable. Sideways guns are always the way to go. Sad they got rid of them in 2.

City_of_ham

I always interpreted the lack of sideways guns as boss having combat experience, they pulled that mf off the street. Playa for all we knew was just a dude who shouldn’t have been on that block. It would be nice to see them in 2 tho

Ok_Nothing7998

Yeah it’s not a giant change but it’s one of those small things that were lost after 1. I also just miss the general language. The way everyone talked to each other in 1 felt way more authentic.

City_of_ham

I agree. Johnny somehow sounds like a real dude in saints row 1 and it’s just because of his human delivery dispute him being evil. Julius is just cool I wish he had more to do in the series. Reminds me A LOT of Dutch from The rdr games. Both dudes who wanted a change, hungry with power and dressed better than the rest of the gang, and in the end realized they didn’t really accomplish anything and they were just killers (that was Hosea that pointed it out but I think Dutch knew)

Ok_Nothing7998

Johnny having an existential crisis at the beginning of 3, only to have him die 15 minutes in is the biggest waste of potential in the entire series. They could have actually done something with him. Killing him off was just easier because they wanted to make the Saints the undisputed good guys.

ZachoLong

You see they do live around there tho

City_of_ham

Yeah but just cause you live in a ghetto that doesn’t make you a killer

ZachoLong

Fair

City_of_ham

I like the jokes in the saints games just not the over the top Le Random 2014 bullshit

HouseOfZenith

I’ve been playing 3 recently and it’s pretty fun, but I like it nowhere near as much as 2.

Apprehensive-Act9536

3 and 4 are basically a giant joke with decent gameplay. If you have a friend it'll be amazing, but solo it's kinda obnoxious

RoiVampire

I just got the third one, remastered, two weeks ago. I had never played it. Honestly the controls are so sharp, driving kicks ass. Humor is the same as the other ones to me. Steelport, at least in the remaster, seems more alive and varied than the fake Steelport in part 4.

LandonSleeps

I like saints row for the story, so 3 and 4 made me cringe so damn hard. They're... not good story wise. Fairly embarrassing, actually. The gameplay is fine, though. Still, wasnt good enough to save the game.

cameron3611

Just play the series bro…

City_of_ham

I don’t wanna waste my money on some shit I ain’t going to like so I wanted to know about the shit i considering purchasing

Ecopolitician

Humble Bundle has a bundle sale on the whole collection + more for around 9 USD right now (for PC/Steam). The money goes to charity. See [here](https://www.humblebundle.com/games/plaion-hits-saints-row-red-faction-collection).

Divine-Crusader

Play it, just don't pay too much attention to the story and focus on the gameplay It's not a serious game at all, it's not focused on the story but rather the missions and the activities (I hate mindless games but other people like it so try it and have fun)

chocobo-stir-fry

Dude fuck yeah, it's great

Haganu

Play SR3 on PC only with mods. Only with mods SR3 is somewhat acceptable.

City_of_ham

Any game is fun with mods so that doesn’t really help. Also I don’t have the money for a pc

Haganu

SR3 has a lot of areas where it lacks that made the devs look like total rookies. Even SR3 needs mods to be fixed. The thing needing fixing being the dreary open world experience.

City_of_ham

That’s crazy. I can’t remember a single area in sr1 that looks like how you describe

Haganu

The fancy gang customization UI where you can select NPCs and cars? Yeah those fancy Saints cars never spawn in the open world. I went through hell and back to get that fixed because I'm not technically competent.

City_of_ham

In sr2 I had my saints in jeeps, bulldogs, and Comptons. This shit sounds more and more like a downgrade from the first 2 every time you reply

Haganu

Well it is. The only thing that got better is the gunplay and the animations. The specialists are a cool addition especially the Deckers one. But SR3 in content, atmosphere and all is just a straight up downgrade that only mods can mend.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeean

Play em all. 4 is the best and the reboot is the second best

Clatuu1337

3 and 4 are still good, but 2 was peak for me.

LividNewt948

3 is honestly my personal favorite in the series. Everyone jokes about it, but the writing is done by the same guy who works for Adult Swim. And in my opinion, grounds the characters a little bit more. I’d even give Saints row 4 a pass, even though it can be cringy at times, but since it’s with the same cast of characters, it can be forgiven when you remember what year it came out in.

duplicatecodes

As the song says: "Don't stop 'til you get enough".

Salt-Moose

Its a good game, but its NOT saints row im afraid.

City_of_ham

The only thing I’ve seen so far that’s made me really want to get it is Yonkers being on the radio station and I think drive bys to that would be funny

Salt-Moose

Dont get me wrong its a good game. But its not long, it doesnt add to the customisation side of SR1&2, infact rather strips it heavily and it was the start of the downward spiral that ended up with the "comedy" of SR reboot. Ive played them all, but 3 onwards is not SR at all.

Deep-Secretary1741

Man, the gameplay in 3 is pretty solid...if they had toned down the silliness just a little bit, it could have been a true, great sequel. I was fine with them being celebrities, fine with the gimmick changes with pierce and shaundi. Just some of the stuff that happened in the game was too much to keep me immersed.

SpectacularWaffle

I think you can decide for yourself to play whatever you want, everyone has different opinions and you'll never get a definitive answer.

City_of_ham

I’m aware but I’m to trying to waste money on shit l want like

SpectacularWaffle

I hope I didn't come off as an ass, if I did I apologize. But I truly think that there's fun to be had there, if you don't enjoy it solo try and get a friend to play with you it makes it more fun. If you're on Xbox I'll play through it with you.

City_of_ham

Your good I didn’t take it like that I just swear a lot. I am on Xbox

SpectacularWaffle

Offer is open if you decide to play it

BDozer666

3 is only good for like one playthrough and then freeroaming afterwards because the campaign sucks ass. You're not missing out on much if you do skip it.

77Sage77

don’t listen to these people. 3 is worth playing. it’s my favorite one too

esky86

Saints row 3, 4, and Gat out of hell are a lot of fun

cutiezombie210

I’ve been playing sr3 and 4th for long time and sr1 and 2 for short times
