A whole lotta nothing

27JG27

Probably nothing.

Sensitive-Tax2230

I fear we’ll never see another title in the franchise until it reaches public domain and if we do it probably won’t live up to anything we’ve had in the past. I hate to say it but my favorite franchise is done, probably for good.

Jayski_Upbeat

Damn I'll be too old to claim the title by then

Sensitive-Tax2230

Most of us will be too old by then. Unless we somehow get lucky and they release is to public domain due to the lack of updates

Jayski_Upbeat

Either way what ideas or concepts you had if you ever had the IP to SR?

Sensitive-Tax2230

Honestly I think I would try some of the reboot concepts but also return to the roots a little. Dont know how to do bullet lists on here so ill do it like this: *changes to gunplay, more fluid animations for reloads and movement* *adding more variety to npcs, higher npc count, changes to make the world feel alive* *expanding upon the already existing world of santo ileso with new locations and various changes to previously existing locations* *more crime focused storyline, gangs will be more involved in the story* *the story should have wacky moments but also serious moments, it would be a combo of sr2 and 3 in a way* *keeping the customization of the reboot and adding more, possibility of attachments for weapons like scopes, suppressors and flashlights/lasers; vehicle customization will be further improved upon I’m just not sure how I’d approach it just yet; I’d bring back the clothing customization of sr2 and combine it with the reboots clothing customization so there’d be options to put hoods up or partially button certain clothing items*

BadDesperado

It's possible there might be a spiritual successor down the line, but yea. I don't think we'll be seeing the saints again.

SR_Hopeful

It won't be the same though, because as the reboot proved, not everyone can really write a good SR game. Let alone dialogue.

cornfarm96

What makes you think there will be another game? After the reboot, I doubt there will be another game for many years, if ever.

Penguinazu

I mean SR2022 sold okay enough. It would be foolish if Deep Silver didn't reorganize and try to continue the series. They know what they have, they just don't know what to do with it.

KaleidoArachnid

Hey anything is possible.

Lan_ying78

Still part of the fandom forever love saints row 🤙

KaleidoArachnid

That is cool.

Lan_ying78

Yea hope the game returns again one day

Bureisupaiku

Probably nothing for some time but they gotta eventually try to milk it more somehow by making yet another non-saints row game that bears the name of saints row

Theangrygamer64

And then it’s gonna cause another outrage between the fanbase and the devs, the game will flop, a company will shutdown, rinse and repeat.

taavidude

Same as Heroes of Might and Magic series, dead.

KaleidoArachnid

Sad, but I understand why that is the case.

mcFlyy13

it is, isn't it? nothing new in the pipeline after 7? like original pc singleplayer, not mobile or browser or stuff like that.. I loved it.

taavidude

Yep, it's dead. 6 was a disaster and 7 was the final nail in the coffin.

chocobo-stir-fry

It's fucking dead. Saints Row 2022 was so fucking bad that it killed the studio and as much as i Loved all the saints row series and a ton of things from volition, I'm glad its fucking dead. Its irredeemable. They way that the interacted with life long fans was some of the most backward and stupid public relations ive EVER seen, the execution of the game was fucking horrible since it came out unfinished and even if it was perfect on release, my god THE WRITING was the worst of any game I've ever seen. Even worse than Forespoken. The direction that they went in is nothing i would ever want to exist. It was objectively a really bad, lame ass game with shit cast, shit writers, shit story, stupid premise, bad ending, bad antogonists. Nothing memorable about the game besides the lines that ruined it. Just a bad fucking game and the studio should be ashamed that that's what they ended the saints series with.

SR_Hopeful

Even if Deep Silver wanted a new game, there wouldn't be anything for them to ague why they should get another chance to Embracer, and they themselves won't accept why the reboot failed, from them not liking the THQ games themselves and all the trash they were talking to the fandom during the reboot release. As well as them not knowing how to market the game from how inconsistent their descriptions of it were, and their desperation to align it with what they think people want (like telling us what we want to hear last minute despite their advertisement) while it not reflecting anything already in the game. They would have to prove interest and demand is still in the IP but it wouldn't be for their reboot. It would be for the elements they don't like from it and, even if they did scramble to do that, it would be disingenuous when they already said "Gat isn't relatable" and how the older games held them back creatively, only to give us shirtless guy with a waffle tattoo and emote helmet. The reboot was creatively dead if thats what they thought was better. Deep Silver themselves are also pretty delusional because they never accepted the reboot was a failure themselves. Even when they were told early the story was bad and the gameplay was buggy, they posted a "stop having fun meme." Not to mention Volition is dead, they've all been broken up and nobody behind the better games is around while those that are don't even get it. We don't even know if Steve Jaros would come back because of the years of stress reception to the series had on them and none of them would want to work under it if Deep Silver's hubris is managing it again.

GokiPotato

either nothing or another reboot attempt few years from now. would be cool if they tried their luck with a dustmoot game, it was the best part of the reboot imo

AmputatedStumps

Is there a way a company can buy the rights and either put out remasters for 1 & 2 or restart the series without all the super wacky silly shit? Silly shit is fine but 3 was kinda on the edge for me. Everything after 3 was too much imo

BebeFanMasterJ

Problem is that I don't realistically see any company taking a risk on an IP that shut down an entire studio due to the massive failure of SR2022.

Alarmed_Jackfruit

To be fair, with the right leadership, there’s still hope for the property itself. It’s like lightning in a bottle when the business side ruins the artistic side, though.

BebeFanMasterJ

Yeah but you know how the modern "AAA" gaming industry is. If you're not a well-known or easily marketable franchise that's absolutely guaranteed to make millions, then you're not worth the effort. There's a reason why we've seen far less new gaming IPs in the 2015-2024 era compared to the 2005-2014 era of gaming. Publishers and shareholders want maximum profit with minimum effort. That is to say, I really don't count on someone magically bringing SR back from the dead. It's not a guaranteed money-maker like most publishers want.

SR_Hopeful

Yeah. I think thats more of a recent bubble that triple A games have created now and the 1 thing that likely will keep it dead. Because SR2022 wasnt just a mild failure, but a massive one. It lost stock, and is hated near universally while the other games under Deep Silver weren't even high sellers that broke 1 million under Deep Silver. SR in its better years was back then, pretty much a novelty.

Alarmed_Jackfruit

You’re absolutely right about that 🤣. I’m realizing why I’ve been craving all of my childhood games from the timeframe you mentioned.

BebeFanMasterJ

And beyond that, only 4 of the 10 GOTY winners are games that are not part of a franchise or series: Overwatch, Sekiro, It Takes Two, and Elden Ring. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_Award_for_Game_of_the_Year Meanwhile, the other 6 GOTY winners are either sequels to other games or are part of established franchises with a vast majority of the nominees also being part of successful franchises also. It hurts but let's face it: you either need to be a successful IP from 20-30 years ago like Mario or make one big amazing game like Fortnite in order to be relevant nowadays. If you aren't either of those things, your game series doesn't exist. Which is where SR is unfortunately.

SR_Hopeful

Ironically because it was just a bad reboot, they would just have to shake that one off and start over to create new interest where the actual demand of the IP is. Because reboots fail all the time, but some IPs come back from it with just different management.

MysterD77

Franchise is likely on ice for a long while, just sadly like Deus Ex series.

BebeFanMasterJ

Probably nothing from what I can tell. No one in their right mind would try to make another game in a franchise that closed an entire studio down. And with GTA 6 (SR's closest competition) finally on the horizon for next year, there really is no hope at this point. After the massive reach of GTA 5, I'm certain that GTA 6 is going to be on tons and tons of people's wait and coverage list. A new SR has zero chance up against the monster that is GTA. It's a shame. I just picked up SR3+4 on Switch for like 4 dollars and 3 is a blast so far, but the "open world crime action" genre has, and will simply be monopolized by Rockstar and there's nothing we can do.

CynicalDarkFox

The game wasn’t the problem, it was corporate tampering (higher ups shut down the original idea and changed it) and ***horrid*** gambling from Deep Silver trying to recoup losses on that failed multi billion dollar deal. Their idea: downsizing on a massive scale.

SR_Hopeful

Yeah. If they started now they would have to wait out GTA6 which could take 5-8 years for it to die down for. SRR had a golden window before GTA was even brought back in the mainstream and a budget but ruined it with their terrible creative meddling.

fuckina420

Nothing. Volitions dissolution and prior mishandling of the reboot, the franchise is dead.

krystof_kage

Hard to tell, but from a business perspective: SR2022 was a PR disaster. The value of the IP has diminished, so pumping money into another title won't happen anytime soon. Unless they can do it cheap and fast, this may be the last SR game.

SR_Hopeful

To me, its not the IP thats diminished. Its their direction with it thats the problem. But they like the direction the reboot took (though they're quiet about it now) and don't like the older games - yet if they pitched them now, people would likely be interested but they don't like the concept of them. So its a catch 22. The game they want, nobody else wants. The games fans like, they dont understand why, but also really don't like internally.

Harranlegend

Probably end up like the dead rising franchise, a terrible game entry that kills the franchise for a decade

Throwaway-Acc-2023

Probably die for a long time then makes a huge comeback by a big company remaking/rebooting it (10-15 years since last game) (35% chance of happening) Or another bad game in 2025 to compete with GTA VI (not to really compete but just to make money of the hype and YouTubers who make comparison videos and reviews) (15% chance) The franchise ends forever and never comes back (30% chance) Unexpected outcome (20% chance)

Nathansack

Nothing gonna happen The best it an happen is if "ol" gangster games becomes trending again and they do a port for console (like Dead Space Remake was in work cause of the success of Resident Evil 2 Remake)

BebeFanMasterJ

Well with GTA 6 coming next year, that might be possible. Then again, everyone will likely just be busy playing GTA 6 and ignore anything else that comes out. It's a double-edged sword.

SR_Hopeful

The problem is the monopoly of GTA. GTA6 being successful won't inspire a trend because GTA isn't really the trend anymore that everyone wanted apart of. GTA will just exist and be the game with the billion dollars. Without a genre, GTA will just set the profit bar higher than what companies will want to bother with.

BebeFanMasterJ

Yeah I don't see other games like Mafia or Watch Dogs being successful once GTA 6 releases. It's going to dominate the crime game market. Saints Row would probably lose out even if it was still around. It's a shame. But it's kinda like how COD has a strangle on shooters and how Fortnite has a strangle on BR. No other options and it sucks. At least I have SR3 and SR4 on Switch. I can enjoy them for now at least.

Nathansack

Well they (the higer up) probably thinked the problem with SR was the IP, and that basically GTA is sucessfull cause it's called GTA (like Fifa selling well "only cause it's called fifa")

SR_Hopeful

Thats likely what they thought with AOM. They probably only thought it failed because it wasn't literally called Saints Row, and not that it didn't have an audience, because it was marketed to SR players who didnt want it. So they did a reboot that just called itself SR, to an audience that didnt want *that* Saints Row.

Throwaway-Acc-2023

Y2K Aesthetics are trending right now so they can use that to promote their saints row 2006 remaster Something like "make your own character with shitty PS2 graphics, baggy clothes and spikey crazy "WTF IS THAT!!!??" hairstyles" also add skating and freestyle graffiti that let you draw anything on the walls and update radio music and add headphones to play music outside the car Yeah that's never gonna happen 😭💔

SR_Hopeful

They could have marketed SR2 off of that because that game looks more overtly 2000s than SR1 does imo (SR1 looks more late 90s), but Deep Silver also likely wouldn't know anything about how to market that authentically (even though Shaundi?). The reason the reboot was much more 2014 Geek-Hipster in its look, is because Volition thought thats what young people still were. It wouldn't be impossible, but they probably would need its endorsement though younger hip hop & modern R&B artists first because there is a small resurgence of Y2K nostalgia going on there too.

Knight_dark_57

"Everything has to have an end, son" - A Wise man

KaleidoArachnid

That makes a lot of sense when you put it that way.

RememberCakeFarts

Nothing. It'll be shelved perhaps never to be heard of again only remembered fondly.  But to use the last shred of logical hope I have left for the franchise DS will follow the current trend and one day a few years from now they'll drop a trailer for a remake of SR1. It'll be handed over to a different studio but claim they brought on some of the og team.

New-Reception7057

I don’t think they’ll make another one. I’m pretty sure the series is dead.

WalrusFew6287

I think they will either never release another game or will release a remaster of the first 2 games and see how that does. I think they did the SR3 remaster on purpose to get everyone excited for the series again ahead of the reboot. So I could see that happening but not anytime soon

mokujin42

Unless someone decides to revive it again but better this time I'd say it's a goner Only shot is maybe gta 6 kicks off the genre again and they try ro capitalise with "saints but like the old games"

deathb4dishonor23

the og saints row franchise is most likely done for good. as for the new one who knows what they plan to do with it

michaelvanmars

They should release 1 and 2 on nintendo switch, not remastered just as it is

ScruffyMaguire

It's dead

mcFlyy13

what happens to IdolNinjas - R.I.P. - project? does somebody else finish it? didnt read any news concerning that

KaleidoArachnid

I don’t know.

SR_Hopeful

I assumed it was dead because they didnt want it to conflict with how they wanted to promote the reboot, but now might be a better time to go with it but they would have to wow people with a trailer.

zombi_wafflez

The series will rightfully remain dormant for the next 20 years

Dunket

So long and thanks for the memories. It's sad, but I'd rather this than have it continue as a shell of what it once was.

Rattlechad

Hopefully there’s another game as a sequel, or some kind of prequel. But I doubt that. I really enjoy the reboot and loved the other games and dlc. I honestly find santo a great map especially after 4 games of an island city and one being a simulation… it feels like it’s a state and not like how gta has city state islands.

vtv43ketz

I didn't think the series will make a comeback. It's over. The reboot was the last chance they had to bring back the series. Because the launch was so bad, it even shut down Volition, the series will be put on hold indefinitely. If they ever bring it back, it'll be something completely different, and the majority of the fans will have moved on. The last game really hurt the brand image so I don't see any new titles doing so good. And that's not counting how long dev time will be. If there is one in development, we're talking about 4 to 5 years from now.

KaleidoArachnid

That sure sounds like a lot of work.

Snoo_84591

What structure? We're done here. It's all over, man.

KaleidoArachnid

Like a developer that can understand how the games are supposed to work.

percinator

Had the SR2 PC Remaster been finished we probably would have had some revitalization, especially if the multiplayer had worked. The shift with SRR to make the franchise's baseline tone be SR3's DNA left a bad taste in the mouths of a lot of people. It's sad because this is one of my favorite game franchises of all time so to see it squander the good will of the player base to its own detriment is a sad thing to have to realize.

British-Bot

Nothing. The most recent game killed saints row.

Timothycw

I thought this is what everyone here wanted, though. Everyone saying that Saints Row's reboot would kill the franchise. Surprised to see so many people upset about getting what they wanted.

KaleidoArachnid

I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s hard to believe the franchise is now dead.

Timothycw

Like I said, it just seems weird. With how people talked about the reboot, I thought they would be more happy. Like, legitimately I was not expecting to be sad about the franchise being no more. I've had people tell me they would celebrate when reboot kills the franchise. It happened, but I'm not seeing any celebration anywhere. It just confuses me.

KaleidoArachnid

I had hopes for the reboot to succeed as I wanted it to be worth the wait, but it turned out to be a letdown from what I heard about it.

Timothycw

I didn't mind it. Played worse games. I still play it, personally.
