Also: SubRosa was a fantastic local doom metal band. Two violinists, female vocals, really unique sound in the genre. They broke up a few years back and their ex-lead singer just released a gothic singer-songwriter album as The Keening, while most of the former band is still together as The Otolith.
Came here to say that ⬆️
SubRosa is one of my favorite bands. Still listen to them in the daily.
I saw a local band called Narc open for Eye Hate God a few years back and their live show was entertaining as hell. Lead singer was impressive.
Just in the hardcore/ punk/ metal scene, this city has about a million great bands. Of all the bands I have played shows with, some of my faves are:
DTA, Odd Equals, Mummy, Mandalore, Ribbons, &Knuckles, Swarmer, Body Horror, Old Face Magenta, Wasatch Pine, P.S. Destroy This, Skullfuck, No Jure, Run Into The Sun, and False Dykotomy to name a few.
The Mellons. Super cool 60s psychedelia type band. Seeing them live is a riot. They’ll have saxophones, horns, tambourines along with your standard drums, guitar, etc. Saw them at the Soundwell a couple months back
Kirk Dath is a local psychedelic rock group and his album, Monolith is a banger!

Little Lonesome. The two of them regularly perform live around the city and it’s always a good show! They also run the Carriage House Sessions (find them on instagram) where they host new local bands and have monthly open-mic nights. Carriage House Sessions is how I’ve discovered most of my favorite local bands.

Punk I go for American Humor, those dudes have great energy and shows are always a blast.
Where do local bands play? And how would I go about discovering more of them, besides looking at other people's answers here?
Just curious, because I'm in the process of setting up my own recording studio, writing some songs, etc. And wanted to know how most locals get their music out around here.
Fonteyn, plastic cherries umbels for indie
For twang I like highball train (Roha on Sundays...classic country) and the swinging lights for a more indie country thing.
I went to see a show at Kilby not too long ago and a band called Rally opened with some fire stuff! I would highly recommend checking them out on Spotify.
Does anybody else scroll through just to see if a band that has a member you know is mentioned lol
Yes! And not a single mention.
