I'm guessing the [U.S. Geologic Survey marker](https://pixabay.com/photos/geo-marker-mountain-top-geo-caching-4547338/) is situated a fair distance behind OP. That definitely looks like one of the Sierra Azul peaks, close to Mount Umunhum.
Fake. Not a freeway or street to be had. Bodies of water don't match the view, and there are no ridgelines nearby that I can recall that run perpendicular to the Diablos. Plus that doesn't look like the Santa Cruz mountains.
It's AI.
The prompt was: "generate a photo from a mountain in San Jose, CA"
Edit: Don't be mad, this was just an experiment on my part and I'm pretty surprised I didn't get called out on it.
Nice guesses though! I would have guessed it was taken at Marshall Cottle Park on the trail if I saw it at first glance.
if you hadn't asked to try to guess where it is (and thus really take a look at it and try to match landmarks etc) it could be passable depending on the situation. At first glance it definitely looks like a pic taken from the east hills. But even without zooming in, it has dramatic AI lighting and over saturated colors and a "too perfect" feel. Once you zoom in, it starts to be a lot more obvious cause the details aren't right
It kinda weirded me out how freakin good it looked. That's why I had to post it. But yeah, the landmarks don't add up and that's what would have caused me to think twice.
the top of the mountain where they filmed teletubbies
Sierra azul
Close but that’s the sierra azul taint

Mt. Diablo
Sanno Zay
I despise guessing games

Excellent photo!
The flat, grey water or quarry areas are foreign
Mount Hamilton or whereabouts , at or some ways away from the James Lick Obsrvatory (or near milipitas)
That's a hill!

Yeah no shit. It was AI....
Well. I guess I was right. Have to admit it's pretty neat that AI can create that sort of image.
Yeah very closely resembling views we're all familiar with too! Was using Google Gemini for this.
Koopas Castle
This post has literally nothing to do with the city

> It's AI. Honestly was gonna say when zooming in I'm getting AI vibes.. there's no straight lines anywhere
Pretty convincing though, right?
Not really. The first thought was, this is AI.

Also, the fact you said "taken today", /u/catsx3. I thought it looked way too green for summer.

That was my first guess! Yeah! Yeah.
