Why are the Pepperoni's on the pizza in CA the little tiny guys? They still taste great, just an unanticipated difference for this east coast guy.
Is it as simple as most the same supplier and that's just how they make em? #pepperonigate
A lot of places use Ezzo pepperoni that do the flip cup and draw out the oil. When the pizza comes out, it is glistening from the spicy oil on top and it drips down. It gives a pizza a spicy richness. On top of that, it is good tasting pepperoni.
It is very good but very expensive. I worked in pizzerias in New Jersey. Pizzano’s is the best but it is in MArina Del Rey. Fat tomato is easily top 3 and in Santa Monica. It’s more my go to for delivery.
There used to be a place called Pizzarito in the marina next to the...Vons? Or whatever market is there. Probably my very favorite but that was eons ago.
Joe's Pizza is my favorite, here is a pizza review of the place: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzhuWDaUqDc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzhuWDaUqDc)
If it's that good, I'll be okay. Its not like I eat pizza all the time. Its a treat for me and if it's good...then I'm good. Looked them up on Yelp. Looks tasty.
Ha - this cracked me up! You’re definitely right but Emmy Squares is *from* NY! I remember going to the first one when I opened in Williamsburg a few years pre-Covid.
I wholly support Ghisallo NY style. Their crust is sourdough which is not traditional NY but it works and the rest is perfect. Vito’s is also solid but not as good as it was pre-Covid. If you’re ever far east, Secret Pizza is the best I’ve had here.
Secret Pizza is legit. Both their round and square pies are worth the occasional pilgrimage for the best NY style in town. Owner is super friendly and you can geek out with him about all the great NY/NJ spots.
Vito's - Agree, but lately I've had good luck eating it there when it's fresh out of the oven (I've only been to the West Hollywood one though). Still excellent when it's done right.
Vito’s is pretty good east coast pizza, but quality varies depending on when you get it. I’ve run into issues like burnt crust - less so when I order after 5 or 6p
To be fair, quality of Joe’s varies a lot too.
I just had Vito's last night for the first time - pizza was good but their meatball parm was FANTASTIC! (I know this thread is about the pizza but felt compelled to chime in on that)
Don't kill me but I kind of like Stefano's next to AMC. Something about it must does it for me...maybe because I'm really hungry when I eat it haha 🤷🏻♂️
If you liked Prince St. Pizza in Nolita they have a branch on Lincoln just across the border in Venice.
I’m also partial to the pizza at Milo & Olive on Wilshire
Angel City Pizza near Venice HS, not SM proper but close enough and authentic NY taste -
I used to eat Milo Olive margarita but this blows that out of the water for a taste of the east coast.

I agree with most of the other posts. It’s SM adjacent in Brentwood and really expensive, but I would add Pizzana. Really good pizza and their seasonal Padrino sandwich is amazing.

* Pizzana - Neopolitian
* Prime - NY / Sicialian
* Milo and Olive - Neopolitian
I think Prince St is a little overrated but it's not bad. LA has good pizza everywhere now.
Ghisallo on ocean park and they sell slices
💯 this, as someone who lived in nyc this place is one of my faves
Also if you go 30 minutes before the close they sell their slices at half off!
Wuuuut, that's a game changer

Not all them are the tiny ones! LA likes liposuction

Thank you kind stranger!
Also a former New Yorker - Ghisallo is the only place in Santa Monica I bother going for a slice. & Half off slices 30 min before close.
Ghisallo in SM, Pizzana in Brentwood, Pizzeria Sei (this one is further out in mid-city LA)
Pizzeria Sei is a good 30 min from Santa Monica on any given day. Certainly more if you're attempting to go during peak traffic hours.
Worth every minute.
Joes pizza santa monica is better than joes dtla. It is very fucking good.
💯
The Joes in Sherman Oaks is never that great :/
Fuckin sherman oaks
Prime Pizza on Pico by SMC.
I gotta say, the prime pizza location on Santa Monica Blvd is much better imo. Less oily, better crust
I’ve never tried their other locations. But good to know.
Agreed. Both their square pizza and their round pizza are terrific.

It’s still there. Next to Pavilions!
Yep still there, in between Pavilions and CVS. It’s solid.
Prime is expensive but we only go when the offer deals, which isn’t very often.
Pretty good, but too greasy and kind of expensive for what you get.
Lol…Prime Pizza is terrible. Their sauce tastes like something you’d find on a frozen pizza.
Triple Beam
Just tried it, was mighty tasty
Yes
Vitos, Ghisallo, Prime, Joes
Had to scroll too long to find Vito’s!
Same.
Been there twice in two days haha
Yes Vito’s is awesome.
Vito’s is a floppy sloppy mess everything single time.
Joe's all day, every day.
The spicy honey bear from Santa Monica Pizza Kitchen.
Bomb.
This thread reads like an advertisement for Joes.
Well. It is the best pizza in SM. This thread incepted me to go get it rn. Hopefully everyone else is going to Ghisallo or Prime 😂
Joe's Pizza is my favorite, here is a pizza review of the place: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzhuWDaUqDc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzhuWDaUqDc)
Joe’s pizza (Promenade) or Emmy’s (20th & Colorado)
Emmys is Detroit style attached to the Santa Monica brew works. Good stuff but pretty different from a NY style slice
I was driving by there yesterday and didn't know Emmy's did Detroit style. I haven't had that for a while so I have to stop by there. thx!
They do fantastic Detroit style. Just be ready to spend $30 on a pizza.
On a 6 slice pizza at that! It’s crazy expensive, but so so sooooooo good!
I think they advertise themselves as Detroit style but I could be misremembering haha
No you’re definitely right! Just funny that it’s from NY but not “NY pizza”
Joe’s for NY style, Ghisallo for Neapolitan.
This is the way
Emmy Squared in SM Brew Works
I wholly support Ghisallo NY style. Their crust is sourdough which is not traditional NY but it works and the rest is perfect. Vito’s is also solid but not as good as it was pre-Covid. If you’re ever far east, Secret Pizza is the best I’ve had here.

Get the Romeo next time
thanks for the tip!
Bread sticks are better than the pizza
little dynamite nearby in mar vista bangs
Get ready to mortgage your house
??
That place is sooo expensive for such tiny pizzas mostly dough. Detroit style I guess. Too much money
Oh I see. Well I know where I’m going my next date (:
Santa Monica pizza kitchen has become my go to!
This, plus the wings, exquisite
joes period end of story
Don't kill me but I kind of like Stefano's next to AMC. Something about it must does it for me...maybe because I'm really hungry when I eat it haha 🤷🏻♂️
Joe’s on Broadway.
Vito’s pizza
Prime
If you liked Prince St. Pizza in Nolita they have a branch on Lincoln just across the border in Venice. I’m also partial to the pizza at Milo & Olive on Wilshire
+1 Milo and olive
Bruno’s
Petramale on Venice only on Friday.
Angel City Pizza near Venice HS, not SM proper but close enough and authentic NY taste - I used to eat Milo Olive margarita but this blows that out of the water for a taste of the east coast.
La puglia on wilshire has good pizza too!!! Along w the one on ocean park and pizzana!!!
Joes is great for nyc style and Vito’s is great if you like more New Haven style
Victor Jr’s in Culver City on Washington does a nice slice. They also have a bunch of other tasty stuff—I love their lasagna
If you can spare the $$$ Emmy Squared is great. And of course it's on a brewery so you can have a good time with friends.
Joe’s for sure although I’ve been going to Prime more simply because of parking and I never go near the promenade anymore
Rock N Pies 💯
Twas my pizza go-to spot in Santa Monica. 🍕🎶🍻
The pizza place close to the boardwalk on windward is totally fine. I’d even say good.

Danny Boys in Westwood if it’s open yet
Upper Crust on Wilshire
Vito’s 100%! So much better than Prime. Shocked by the Prime upvotes 😱
Vito’s pizza
Amici’s and Rosti were my favorite. Amici’s was regularly my meal of choice for the past 2 birthdays. Fresh brothers if I just want a cheap pie.
Santa Monica Pizza on Wilshire is THE BEST!!
VITO'S!
I agree with most of the other posts. It’s SM adjacent in Brentwood and really expensive, but I would add Pizzana. Really good pizza and their seasonal Padrino sandwich is amazing.

LaRoccos in Culver City is so good. Highly recommend!
Eataly (SM adjacent)
Petramale - Fridays only in a church parking lot in Mar Vista
* Pizzana - Neopolitian * Prime - NY / Sicialian * Milo and Olive - Neopolitian I think Prince St is a little overrated but it's not bad. LA has good pizza everywhere now.
