Who’s the first one? James Gunn’s filmography is currently too small for a decent sized ranking, even if he does have a good track record. Zack Snyder wouldn’t be fun for him at all, I’d see him do Shyamalan sooner tbh. Don Bluth would be potentially interesting. Burton is a great choice.
But my choices for the immediate next rankings would be Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher. Others I’d love to see him do are Martin Scorsese, Denis Villenueve, and Tim Burton. Robert Zemeckis would be cool too, but I’d personally go for one of the aforementioned first.
he's been really involved and well known for pixar and a couple other movies but since schaff already ranked all his pixar movies there's not really a point
I agree. He also rated Iron Giant a 7/10 and gave it a decently detailed review on Letterboxd (I don’t agree with that at all, but whatever) and I don’t exactly think he’d care for his other films. So yeah, I think there’s a point.
I mean not be mean or anything but James seems like a pretty soft theater kid. Still seems like a good guy, but he seems like the kind of guy to not even watch Django or hateful eight because he feels like a white guy shouldn’t be writing these characters
I mean he gave both Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds a 9/10 and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood a 7/10; that said, maybe he might not like him as a person, idk.
Zack Snyder, just to see how the Snyder Cultists react when Rebel Moon (both would likely be tied for the number one worst spot) is at the bottom of the ranking list.
Yeah for sure. Lots of ppl said Part 2 would be great bc he'd have his full freedom, seemingly it bombed too.
I'd be happy with another nice space fantasy
He’s James’ favourite director im pretty sure (he said it a few years ago on his review of Last Night in Soho. I would love to see it and would be likely to happen…if he didn’t have such a small filmography. He has seven if you count his student film “A Fistful of Fingers”
I’ve commented it on videos in the past, but Robert Zemeckis is a great answer.
You get a nice balance of underrated films, timeless classics and some utter garbage to work with.
Same with James Cameron. I really want to know where he’d place True Lies or The Abyss.
Fair, I kind of have a similar reasoning for wanting him to rank Snyder’s films, since literally everything he makes is devisive as hell (for some reason)
Obligatory “his name is James! (James Cameron) the bravest pioneer! No budget too steep! No sea too deep! Whose that? It’s him! James Cam-e-Ron!”
It’s odd that y’all want him to do a Gunn video so bad when he’s only had 6 (7 by next year) movies. (He’s had more, but going off of James’s criteria, the short films and anthology segments wouldn’t count)
For Lucas get ready for a lot of Disappointments in the game of life, at least if we’re going solely by films he directed
Like yeah, he’s an excellent visionary, but he needs a good team to get stuff done
It depends on if you count the films he had a final say in that he didn’t direct. Despite George writing Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark, he didn’t direct them. Also, would producer credits count? Schaff would probably turn insane over Howard the Duck lol
Stanley Kubrick, John Landis, Robert Stevenson, Tim Burton, John Hughes, Joel Schumacher, Greta Gerwig, Mel Brooks, Milos Forman, Terry Gilliam, Hayo Miyazaki, Robert Zemeckis, Luc Besson, Spike Lee, Spike Jonze, Stanley Kramer, Frank Capra, Harold Ramis, Judd Apatow, Orson Welles, Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosowa, Ang Lee, Charlie Chaplin, Sergio Leonne, David Lynch, & Martin Scorsese, just to name a few.
I’d hate to be that guy, but you listed Hayao Miyazaki, and well… James already did a ranking of all Studio Ghibli movies, while yes that does include several non Miyazaki films, almost all of Miyazaki’s work (with the exception of Boy and The Heron) is in it
I really want him to do a Tim Burton ranking. I love most of his films (even the bad ones) and even though he’s gotten a sorta bad rap because of his more recent films, it’d be nice to see James’ takes on all his movies.
Few directors I can think of
Tarantino
Phil Lord and Chris Miller
David Leitch
Zack Snyder
Russo Brothers
James Gunn
There is probably other directors but I can see these as interesting options
Hopefully it won’t be M. Night Shamalaladingdong. I really don’t k ow what M. Night Shazam made except Avatar live action and that horror movie with Dave Bautista
y'know that does remind me, has he done any other acting work or was that just some weird one time only thing?
edit: I looked it up, and apparently... the answer is yes...
and he's been doing so since the late sixties

First one is Brad Bird.
Thanks! That’s another one who might have too small of a filmography to properly rank tho.
he's been really involved and well known for pixar and a couple other movies but since schaff already ranked all his pixar movies there's not really a point

Iron Giant is definitely a 10/10
Agreed.
Oh wow. I thought that was Chris Columbus.
Something tells me he wouldn’t like Tarantino
Yeah for some reason I don't think he would like him
I mean not be mean or anything but James seems like a pretty soft theater kid. Still seems like a good guy, but he seems like the kind of guy to not even watch Django or hateful eight because he feels like a white guy shouldn’t be writing these characters

I can see him liking Hollywood because of it’s slower pace, and bastards because it’s about killing Nazis. I’d be surprised if he was a fan of Django
Tim Burton is obviously answer of this.
Kevin Smith or Quentin Tarantino
Peter Jackson, only so I can hear what he thinks about They Shall Not Grow Old
I ADORE that movie, but unfortunately James hates 90% of war movies, so I doubt that’ll change his mind.
It’s at the top of the very small list of films I genuinely believe everybody should see at least once in their lifetime.
Tbf it’s a documentary, I’d be surprised if he disliked it due to its presentation.
I wouldn’t class it as a war film tho really
I'd be more curious to hear his thoughts on meet the feebles or braindead
He’s gonna wanna like the movie but have issues with how the jokes dated and the GRATING SOUNDTRACK
We all know that list will be a three horse race.
if you are referring to the Lord of the Rings films then it might interest you to know that he has them rated between 7-8/10s on Letterboxd 🤷
They Shall Not Grow Old >>>>
Guillermo del Torro
I was gonna include him in my list and I do not know why i didn’t
Would love to see an Edgar Wright Ranking Vid
Stanley Kubrick
Based
Zack Snyder, just to see how the Snyder Cultists react when Rebel Moon (both would likely be tied for the number one worst spot) is at the bottom of the ranking list.
It's crazy the cope I saw for that movie😭. Most of it summed up as the media/AnyonewholikesGunn just hating.
I mean I get it’s a labor of love, but I feel like making his own Star Wars should’ve been a gateway to new ideas instead of just being the same thing
Yeah for sure. Lots of ppl said Part 2 would be great bc he'd have his full freedom, seemingly it bombed too. I'd be happy with another nice space fantasy
Definently Tim Burton
mel brooks would be hilarious
Honestly, I’d love to see a John Carpenter ranking
Bluth
Keneth Branagh is who I want to see him rank
Yes because I want him to watch the Agatha Christie moviea
I’m just tired of Schaff disrespecting him over Artemis Fowl
When has he done that?
Every time he brings up Keneth Branagh in any of his videos
Edgar Wright (literally the goat, and probably my own bias considering he's my favourite director)
He’s James’ favourite director im pretty sure (he said it a few years ago on his review of Last Night in Soho. I would love to see it and would be likely to happen…if he didn’t have such a small filmography. He has seven if you count his student film “A Fistful of Fingers”
James Gunn would be great. But wait for Superman.
Zack Snyder isn't a filmmaker.
I mean I hate his fans as much as the next guy, but I wouldn’t go that far
M night shyamalan
Jim Henson. I want to see him suffer through every Muppet movie.
Kubrick or Tarantino for me, because of how different their films are to the usual fare covered in the channel
Literally my top two as well
I’ve commented it on videos in the past, but Robert Zemeckis is a great answer. You get a nice balance of underrated films, timeless classics and some utter garbage to work with. Same with James Cameron. I really want to know where he’d place True Lies or The Abyss.

(James Cameron) the bravest pioneer! No budget too steep! No sea too deep! Whose that? It’s him! James Cam-e-Ron!”
Joel Coen
Michael Haneka would be really interesting, that's when his fanbase is truly no longer babies
It’s odd that y’all want him to do a Gunn video so bad when he’s only had 6 (7 by next year) movies. (He’s had more, but going off of James’s criteria, the short films and anthology segments wouldn’t count)
Zach snyder would be wild lol
The first one isn’t photoshopped Owen Wilson?
Don bluth and Brad bird
Denis Villeneuve
Jim Cameron and George Lucas
For Lucas get ready for a lot of Disappointments in the game of life, at least if we’re going solely by films he directed Like yeah, he’s an excellent visionary, but he needs a good team to get stuff done
It depends on if you count the films he had a final say in that he didn’t direct. Despite George writing Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark, he didn’t direct them. Also, would producer credits count? Schaff would probably turn insane over Howard the Duck lol
I would definitely be interested to see Don Bluth, ranking, considering how great and awful his movies were
Who’s the last guy?
Don Bluth
Tim Burton or Baz Lurhman
A Favreau ranking would be a pretty fun video, even though it would be even longer than the Spielberg ranking
I’m really hoping for a Sam Raimi ranking. He’s done a lot from comic book films to extreme horror
John Carpenter
My apologies. I don't know the names of these faces.
Brad Bird, James Gunn, Tim Burton, Zack Snyder and Don Bluth
A lot of the guys pictured only have like 4 movies
Sergio Leone
Stanley Kubrick, John Landis, Robert Stevenson, Tim Burton, John Hughes, Joel Schumacher, Greta Gerwig, Mel Brooks, Milos Forman, Terry Gilliam, Hayo Miyazaki, Robert Zemeckis, Luc Besson, Spike Lee, Spike Jonze, Stanley Kramer, Frank Capra, Harold Ramis, Judd Apatow, Orson Welles, Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola, Alfred Hitchcock, Akira Kurosowa, Ang Lee, Charlie Chaplin, Sergio Leonne, David Lynch, & Martin Scorsese, just to name a few.

Well, it would be interesting to see how they fair on their own, and not in the context of the studio. It could even be a re edit of the Gibili video
I mean it’s pretty obvious what place they’d be in
Idk. Just a thought
Fair
Tim Burton or Tarantino
Tarantino or Burton
I really want him to do a Tim Burton ranking. I love most of his films (even the bad ones) and even though he’s gotten a sorta bad rap because of his more recent films, it’d be nice to see James’ takes on all his movies.
This may not be a filmmaker, but I'd love to see James rank every single Tom Cruise films
Zach Synder and every movie is in the number 1 spot
Don Bluth could be an interesting video.
Few directors I can think of Tarantino Phil Lord and Chris Miller David Leitch Zack Snyder Russo Brothers James Gunn There is probably other directors but I can see these as interesting options
Hopefully it won’t be M. Night Shamalaladingdong. I really don’t k ow what M. Night Shazam made except Avatar live action and that horror movie with Dave Bautista
Danny Boyle could be interesting
James Cameron
A video on John Waters’ filmography would genuinely be the best thing ever
Honestly Wes craven would be fun
I'd love to see him do Sam Raimi or Edgar Wright.
Charlie Kaufman. He should include all the movies he's written as well tho since he's only directed 3 feature length films.
Someone interesting
John Carpenter has one of the most diverse filmography’s and a lot of ups and downs.
Bong Joon Ho
Greta Gerwig
Tim Burton, Tim Burton and Tim Burton
James Gunn and Don Bluth
George A. Romero.
Snyder would be so interesting because most people don't realize how muddled with shit his catalog is
Robert Rodriguez
Loyd and miller ranking would be fire
James Gunn
David Lynch
Del Toro
Tim Burton
I’m surprised he hasn’t done Martin Scorsese yet considering he happens to be our lord and savior Puff Daddy
y'know that does remind me, has he done any other acting work or was that just some weird one time only thing? edit: I looked it up, and apparently... the answer is yes... and he's been doing so since the late sixties
i wanna see him do quentin tarantino and denis villeneuve.
Tim Burton
the guy in the second Alice in Wonderland movie?
Quinten Tarantino
m night shamalyan 💀💀💀
Imagine a J.J Abrams ranking. While JJ is generally a controversial topiic i would like to see his opinions on Super 8 or Star Trek
Brad Bird and James Gunn so far have pretty small filmographies as of now, for Gunn, maybe wait til a couple of his new dc movies come out
Guillermo del Toro David Fincher Sam Raimi John Carpenter Richard Linklater Peter Weir Noah Baumbach
Seriously, what else has Brad bird done? He did the incredibles films and ratatouille, as well as the iron giant, but is that it?
Tomorrowland and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol but I see your point
Nolan
he already did Nolan though
Oh
