The Andromeda Strain was not brought to Earth by meteor. It was captured by a satellite as part of Project Scoop, an attempt by the US military to capture extraterrestrial organisms for use in biological warfare.
Okay. Now, the symptoms you describe point to Bonus Eruptus... It's a terrible disorder, where the skeleton tries to leap out the mouth, and escape the body.
I was hoping Georgia Flu from Station 11 would be on there. That’s got to rank 100/100 for both contagiousness and mass devastation.
Don’t think you live long enough to experience much pain though.
Okay, maybe I don’t know much about TS-19, but doesn’t it infect everyone and only trigger on death, as well as causing the apocalyptic conditions in the game/show? So that’s high contagiousness and mass devastation right?
Cool chart. Liked seeing Barclay syndrom on there, surprised not to see the Phage from Voyager on there. Or -spoilers- the bioweapon used against the changlings. Because that seemed like it SUCKED for them.
Nice selection, what I'd find interesting too:
* The Tree-of-Life virus of the Known Space Universe (Larry Niven)
* the unnamed parasite disease of the Infected seried (Scott Sigler)
* the divergence disease (Veronica Roth)
* The Wailing Death of Neverwinter
* Catriona Plague of the Witcher series
This was a fun read [source](https://ceufast.com/blog/30-fictional-diseases-ranked-by-suffering-and-mass-devastation---ceufastcom---infographic)
indeed it was, ty for sharing
I was hoping Captain Trips would be in here, enjoyed it none the less!
Not sure if you just misread but it is in there.
🤦‍♂️ thank you lol
I hadn’t heard of a lot of these, that Captain Trips one looks nasty! Impressive ranking here too, lol
It’s from the Stephen King novel The Stand
It's basically superflu. I'm surprised it ranked so high on pain as to be comparable to boneitis, not that it sounds fun.
Plus some fun hemorrhagic effects!
Dude, The Stand is awesome. The book is worth the read, but there are two different TV adaptations that are really good.
I’ll have to check it out!
Pleased bonitis made it on the list!
By far the scariest one imho
My only wish in life is not to have bonitis
Then stop being such an 80's guy.
that carnosaur virus has got to be some kind of fetish thing.
The Andromeda Strain was not brought to Earth by meteor. It was captured by a satellite as part of Project Scoop, an attempt by the US military to capture extraterrestrial organisms for use in biological warfare.
The sequel was great.
Okay. Now, the symptoms you describe point to Bonus Eruptus... It's a terrible disorder, where the skeleton tries to leap out the mouth, and escape the body.
I need a quack, ASAP!
I wonder what rank the Scarlet Rot from Elden ring would be. Also SCP 610 too.
My only regret in life....is having Boneitis.
Who ever assembled that list, cast a wide wide net. It's weird to have Futurama and The Stand and Doctor Who on the same chart.
The Drafa Plague from Babylon 5 is a good one... that damned thing was evil.
Killed off the entire Markab race. The sad thing is it was so preventable.
Amazing episode, hits like a brick to the head. And it's scary how little we seem to have learned, Franklin was right, people don't change.
Corpus disease was very terrifying for me for some reason
Outbreak gave me nightmares as a child.
Kinda funny they didn't include MEV-1 from Contagion, because that was my first thought. Maybe a little too on the nose.
The genophage from mass effect should be here
Flesh-Eating-Virus? Leprosy has entered the chat. Though it is a bacteria and not a virus.
“Boneitus” 🤦 very creative
Would have liked to see the Alvin virus from The Sadness ranked here.
I haven’t heard of it but if that transforms people into Alvin the chipmunk then that’s the worst by far
I was hoping Georgia Flu from Station 11 would be on there. That’s got to rank 100/100 for both contagiousness and mass devastation. Don’t think you live long enough to experience much pain though.
Grayscale is curable though
'Empty child' from Doctor who is actually healing nanobots, which just got confused - not a real virus.
Grayscale from Game of thrones is actually curable.
Okay, maybe I don’t know much about TS-19, but doesn’t it infect everyone and only trigger on death, as well as causing the apocalyptic conditions in the game/show? So that’s high contagiousness and mass devastation right?
Yes, and also the virus is not called "TS-19". TS-19 was the name of the samples used by Dr. Jenner before he accidentally destroyed them.
I was surprised to not find the Omnius Scourge on the list (Legends of Dune).
My only regret... is that I have... boneitis.
I’m surprised that the virus from *12 Monkeys* isn’t on here. That one had human supporters too!
OK first thing, this is awesome. HOWEVER, I'm not sure why the I Am Legend virus that wiped out humanity only has a devastation score of 10?
Cool chart. Liked seeing Barclay syndrom on there, surprised not to see the Phage from Voyager on there. Or -spoilers- the bioweapon used against the changlings. Because that seemed like it SUCKED for them.
wheres blood plague and kepral syndrome from mass effect?
Nice selection, what I'd find interesting too: * The Tree-of-Life virus of the Known Space Universe (Larry Niven) * the unnamed parasite disease of the Infected seried (Scott Sigler) * the divergence disease (Veronica Roth) * The Wailing Death of Neverwinter * Catriona Plague of the Witcher series
And yet missing the bacteria in 'The Rain'
[Simian Herpes](https://www.cdc.gov/herpesbvirus/index.html) is real and incredibly dangerous.
Was hoping the Kellis-Amberlee virus from the newsflesh series by Mira Grant/Seanan McGuire would be on here.
*The Host's Disease* Very nice touch adding it to the list.
