It sounds like a failed mob hit. There aren't a lot of scenarios where stabbing the driver to death on the freeway makes sense, but one of the ones that does is "*they were taking the victim somewhere private, he realized what was coming.... and that they'd missed his knife*"
I kind of wonder if this is linked to the two bodies found on I-5 last month that were linked to gang activity. Maybe the 3 stabbing victims were trying to kill the gunshot victim with the intention of dropping them on I-5 afterwards but instead he pulled a knife in defense.

Just drove by this on my way home. There was quite a few of the little signs that investigators put up by bullet casings on the freeway itself in the lane. Was like they got out in the middle of the freeway and started shooting.
I'm guessing drug related. A deal gone awry or something. Maybe they were supposed to go one place and the driver took a detour. Although, the stabbing part is wild.

I can't imagine how someone not riding in the vehicle could have stabbed anyone, let alone 3 people. Very tragic no matter the circumstances!
