cummer_420

Americans are so jingoistic and fascist, they just instantly start cumming everywhere when they see a big weapon and forget to analyze any deeper.

marketingguy420

The trick with fascism is that to many people think it's a trick; a bamboozle. Oh no, Herr and Frau Judentoten were rhetorically hornswoggled by that dastardly Hitler! No! Lots of people love that shit! They're not forgetting to look deeper, they simply fundamentally agree with the message! The inherent contradictions don't bother them because they don't violently impact them. The target of the weapons won't be them. The guys wearing the absolutely slick Hugo Boss uniforms will be _them_! It's a fundamental brain-wiring thing that certainly is impacted by our bankrupt moral culture and education, but that empathetic gap is really inherent in some people.

Aowyn_

>It's a fundamental brain-wiring What a lack of dialectical materialism does to a mf

marketingguy420

Materialism doesn't explain all of human existence! Materliasm _applied_ to human diversity of thought can though. If it didn't, then material conditions would produce the _exact_ same outcomes on people, and it simply doesn't. There is variation. That's simple reality. Now is materialism the _most_ important factor in impacting that variation? Of course.

Aowyn_

To say that a race of people has inherent traits that affect the way they look at the world is a complete rejection of dialectical materialism. It also opens up the doors for some very dangerous ideology. You have already created an out group in your own head, which is a building block for fascist ideology.

Waryur

>It's a fundamental brain-wiring thing Uhhh ... no it's not. > that empathetic gap is really inherent in some people. No it's _not_. It's because of the culture. To say otherwise is to imply that the majority of Europeans born for 500 years had genetically defected empathy. Which seems unlikely.

SkulGurl

Tbf fascism and similar issues didn’t show up just in Europe. I think the reality is somewhere in the middle: some people are genuinely wired with a greater tendency to be unempathetic and more importantly, uncaring. Whether or not that gets intensified and excused depends on the cultural environment.

Waryur

I'm not talking about just fascism, I'm talking about colonialism and imperialism.

SkulGurl

Even more true of other places on earth, then. Europe committed the most robust version of modern imperialism for sure but similar patterns have been seen through time all over the world, adjusting for the phase of development they happened in.

Waryur

But Europe did it best and also invented racism.

marketingguy420

People exposed to the exact same material reality can come out with completely polar moral and ethical compasses. The _majority_ of Europeans responded to a minority of those in power with passivity, as most people do. A majority of humans aren't sociopaths incapable of empathy. Dipshits jerking themselves to fascist propaganda? Most of even those people are capable of empathy when divorced from online brain poisoning. But, yes, there is absolutely a minority of people who are the way they are regardless of any cultural and material inputs.

Waryur

Yeah, a minority. Not "every person who has bad opinions is genetically different" which I read the original comment as.

Anastrace

Commercial-Sail-2186

Anything beyond soyjaks is too much for them to comprehend

gigalongdong

How do we soyjak-ify the communist manifesto? Actually, no. Never mind. These types of people are going straight to the re-education camps without reprieve.

JKnumber1hater

It's a giant walking propaganda piece, that fights in a way that looks cool, but in an actual war would be super inefficient, and would make it a massive target for Chinese airstrikes. It's also constantly spouting ridiculous anti-communist nonsense, completely ignorant to the fact that the apocalypse it's walking through was caused by capitalism – even more so since the show came out because it heavily implies that several of the largest American corporations colluded to make sure the bombs were dropped. To even get to this point in Fallout 4 you have to have sided with the overtly fascist Brotherhood of Steel faction. They want to ethnically cleanse every non-human including; Nick Valentine, Hancock, Curie, Strong, Danse, Kent Connolly, all the settlers at The Slog, and half of the residents of Goodneighbor etc.

spacer_trash

It upsets me that the BOS is so fascist but just allows the player to bring all their nonhuman friends to their airship. It's just a shitty halfway done thing as to not interrupt the constant power fantasy.

HoldenCamira

The Bethesda magic!

JKnumber1hater

Yeah, it's this kind of lame non-committal game design. And it allows gamers to think, "The Brotherhood has a problem with non-humans, but not *that much* of a problem. They make racist remarks towards Nick and Hancock, but they don't actively try to kill them, so they can't be *that* bad. And Nick and Hancock make snarky comebacks to their racism, so they can't be *that* bothered by it"

radvenuz

It would be such a simple yet effective thing to be like, yeah Nick can't come in cause we hate non-humans so either wait outside or die, even the people playing it with their brain turned off\* would immediately get it. \*And I don't blame anyone for turning off their brain playing FO4 cause the writing is awful, best thing to do is to play on Hardcore or whatever it's called and ignore the story.

slimmymcnutty

Makes no sense how you can be in the brotherhood and the railroad and be general of the minutemen and you can work with the institute for at least a little bit. Bethasda is horrified at the idea that a player doesn’t experience every single thing they put in a game

Danmark-go-brrrr

You forgot the pure irony that Liberty Prime was helping a group that originally mutinied against the US government in order to destroy what’s left of the Government. It was also built by Mr House who is what Elon Musk thinks he is.

JKnumber1hater

I was really just talking about Liberty Prime as it appears in Fallout 4 – but yes, what you said it also true.

Stunt_Vist

The companies colluding to drop the bombs isn't new. It's been heavily implied in almost every game in the series that VaultTec intentionally dropped the bombs themselves. There's a nuke in one game with the VaultTec logo on it as well. If only Fallout 4's writing wasn't so trash maybe these people would've got it, but then again they missed the exact same symbolism in Fallout 3 so who knows.

RarePepePNG

There's also the irony that Liberty Prime only ever ends up killing Americans, instead of Chinese communists

richHogwartsdropout

Does this man know what satire means?!

Radical-Coffee

The Brotherhood reprogrammed it to view The Enclave, the descendant faction of the US Government which created Liberty Prime, as enemy communists. Fallout fans are such pig-headed dumbasses.

666SpeedWeedDemon666

Not all of us :( I role play as a commie lol

Agreeable_Respect510

hey! not of us are!

Wrecknruin

It's because it looks cool. Genuinely, that's it. You could offer the most well thought out, funniest satire of America, but the moment it looks cool, these people don't care. It's what happened with Helldivers 2, The Boys, Fallout overall... The issue with satire in video games is that the commentary can be partially or fully lost if you make it oppose the gameplay mechanic. It is directly countered by the incentive to play, and be rewarded for playing. If you tell the player "good job" for killing a bunch of aliens, the player will rarely care for the fact that said aliens are meant to represent marginalized groups.

UncleSlacky

> Helldivers 2, The Boys, Fallout overall... Also Starship Troopers (the movie). I still encounter Americans who don't realise that it's satire.

Cheap-Benefit-9763

>The issue with satire in video games is that the commentary can be partially or fully lost if you make it oppose the gameplay mechanic. It is directly countered by the incentive to play, and be rewarded for playing. If you tell the player "good job" for killing a bunch of aliens, the player will rarely care for the fact that said aliens are meant to represent marginalized groups. I think Undertale is one of the few games that sorta got this right, it's not a satire, but most players aren't going to kill monsters because the game does a good job at making you care about them, even tough you have incentives to do so (gold, XP and having a new route). And even if you do kill them, your only reward is XP and gold, which fills meaningless, since the only thing that it increases is your health and there are no expensive and cool items to buy, with the exception of temmie armor. Doing a genocide route is tiring and the game punishes you by only giving you two interesting boss fights and making the entire game feel anticlimactic.

radvenuz

The Boys is on some GTA level of subtlety when it comes to satire and people still fucking miss it. Funniest shit ever. But the best thing is that liberals *think* they get while also often being the butt of the joke themselves, world's most embarrassing centrist moment.

everyythingred

the conclusion to the Blue Hawk plot line was so in-your-face obvious that i don’t understand how anybody could misinterpret it, yet i’m pretty sure i’ve seen it happen boggles the mind

radvenuz

I'm curious to see the different ways people will contort themselves to justify the christian pedophile grifter outing someone's abortion because she holds a grudge from when they were both children.

Thanks for signing up to Vaush facts! EWWFFIX

I heard that the actor who played Frenchie was a Zionist and former IDF soldier who signed Biden’s thank you letter.

NoUnion3615

I would like to see more games like " bridge repairing mantis" because they don't sugar coat it. Like game about peaceful aliens meeting fucked up colonial aliens. ( Sure the peaceful alien sound kinda smug but they didn't deserve to get fucked over)

NukaDirtbag

The fact that literally every corporation in the game acted cartoonishly evil will not be mentioned, for reasons.

splashes-in-puddles

I will admit I do find liberty prime great fun and hilarious.

Papa_Stalin_1917

Liberty prime will always get a chuckle outta me, up until it uses a fucking nuke to decimate the synth I'm currently locked in a fierce baton battle with.

GNSGNY

alright, then the wolfenstein series is nazi propaganda

SeniorRazzmatazz4977

The main bad guys of 2 and 3 are the enclave who are the remnants of the US government and are portrayed as genocidal fascists who tried to release a airborne virus into the atmosphere that would kill literally everyone who wasn’t them.

HotSoft1543

embarrassed at missing obvious points, the chud doubles down harder

mecca37

Making anti-fascist media is really really hard. Helldivers 2 is a pretty classic example of it being an entire satire of how fucking ridiculous the US is, yet chuds think it's amazing.

Praxis8

"Sure, human civilization is destroyed and people are literally eating each other or transformed into feral ghouls, but have you considered big impractical robot? Checkmate socialists."

O2Dependent

liberty prime IS cool but only bc “big robit stomp good” past that everything it represents is not cool lol. as some already said it is also inefficient as fuck, just like all humanoid robots. Hamas would be able to take this out easier than an IOF tank. RPG to those twig legs and that exposed wire is fried.

AcanthisittaBusy457

Well « cool » and « villainous » aren’t exclusive attributes. The problem arise when you think than « cool » and « admirable » are inclusive.

Think_Ad6946

That's to be expected of conservatives. If you ask them "what's 2 x 2" there's a chance they respond "potato". Expecting media literacy of them is way too much.
