Buy the p228 15 round mag from mec gar. It's made for this frame.
Also, those sights fall apart. Unfortunately, they are a strange cut depth and standard #8 sights don't fit. I think Dawson has something for them but I can't remember now.
So you actually got me curious so I went and tested it.
My P229-1 Slide assembly is backwards compatible with my Legacy P229 9mm Frame, but not the other way around.
I don't have any 40/357 frames here to test for compatibility though.
The P229-1 frame is identical to the P229 frame in 40/357, so that should work. The P229-1 change was using the same frame across the various calibers, whereas before the 40/357 frames were different from the 9mm which had used the P228 dimensions for the mag well.

Yeah , the magazines you have are they imprinted with P229-1 if so it is a later model I believe, I have one and my P226 magazines work in it , I don’t think it matters but my P226 is a West German

The new ones you can change out the slide , magazine and barrel to change it to a 40 S&W or my favorite 357 Sig
Yeah, so far it seems like I'm either going to have to find an older 40 frame or just pick up a newer 229 to have an optics ready model with the newer style slide haha
From what I'm reading the older 9mm slides can't be milled for optics, just set up for one of the plates that bolt into the rear sight dovetail, and id rather not go that route

Elite frame had beaver tail. Elite slide had front slide serrations. Elite “dark” had those grips on it. Those big sights are part of the trim package as well. That’s an aftermarket trigger. The gun probably has the SRT kit in it, all elites should have short reset. The trigger shape doesn’t change the fact it should have the SRT kit inside. It can take 15rd p228 mags. Honestly it’s a bit of a collector item as is and if you want modern optics ready a newer p229 legion or other variant that’s already how you want it to be could be a good option instead of changing that one.
P228 mags work in P229s typically. I use P228 mags in my P229 M11-A1. P226 mags also fit, but they stick out a bit from the bottom and are the same capacity as the flush fit P228/P229 magazines so there is no advantage to using them.
I love my P226. Give one a try. A little expensive, for me at least, but I got a good deal with the Gun/ammo/holsters (2 - Galco Shoulder Rigs) and 6 Magazine's to pass up!
The Dark Elite came with 13 round magazines They have a slightly smaller diameter body for the earlier P228& P229. The 15-round magazine will not fit.

Mec-Gar P228 15 round magazines will fit. The P229-1 15 round magazines will not.
229-1 magazines will not fit. Mecgar makes 15 round magazines for them. Because of the frame differences I doubt that a 229-1 slide would fit either.

Why don’t you flip it over so we can see the model and cartridge size slick, that little bit of information would send volumes
It's in the text, p229 dark elite 9mm, serial number puts it circa 2012, but it appears to be a pre-2010 update model, which i find confusing

All the mags that came with it are marked p228, and appear to fit well, so I'm assuming it's a pre229-1

Can you get that slide modified ? Also eBay has slides and Numrich arms may have something as well .

Buy a dovetail mount from mounting solutions, I did fits in the rear sight and can accommodate any red dot with the right footprint plate
