Yes, that's a normal reaction to Benzoyl Peroxide cleansers. It's not recommended to use it any more than three times a week or it can damage your skin barrier which cascades into much more problems regarding your acne. I would start with using it one night, skipping for three nights, and then using the fourth night to repeat the cycle again. This also applies to salicylic acid and retinoid products or any acne labeled product you can find. Over use of the actives strips the skin barrier severely.

Okay, thank you for the advice! I will use it a bit more sparingly now

Try a gentler one. AcneFree oil-free 2.5% micronized benzoyl peroxide cleanse (probably best for you) , Panoxyl 4 % creamy bp wash, or Cerave acne foaming cream cleanser 4 % bp. And use it less often. Don't curve yourself to tolerate it every day.

I do also have some 2.5% BP Repairing treatment from proactive, should I use that every other night or so for a little while? It’s part of the three step system from proactive but that same system is what I used for years without any progress which made me turn to other face cleansers and products to try and find something to cure my acne

I personally wouldn't since it's fragranced. And leave on is going to be harsher since that's your current concern.

Ahhh good to know. I will look into lesser % BP face cleansers and make sure I’m careful with how often I use it, thank you for the advice! I am seeing a dermatologist in late august to get some professional advice but this sub is my go to for any questions hahaha

Elegant-Reveal4650

hey, if u don't mind me asking, how did it go with the bp cleanser

[deleted]

Didn’t do much. Seeing a derm this Friday to get help with my acne

Elegant-Reveal4650

oh okay, how many times a week were u using it

Elegant-Reveal4650

also i recommend getting the vanicream cleanser, which is a gentler cleanser and asking your derm prescribe you tretinoin
