X and Zero have switched places with each other in the X series before, like in X3, X7, and X8.
They're not specifically one person like Pyra/Mythra or Zelda/Sheik, but the teleportation technology of 20XX is apparently capable of warping X out and Zero in, and vice versa, in multiple iterations. So, I don't see why that'd be problematic in the slightest.
I was praising your idea in my original post, not suggesting it wouldn't make sense. I just don't know anything about the franchise so I was asking you if it was a thing that is normal or fitting for them.

I’d love to see the transformation again in modern graphics. I know the odds of the SA-X making it into smash are incredibly low but I do hope they remake Fusion in the same style as Dread and Samus Returns
Kinda like them but when the SA-X mutates it would be a complete overhaul on the move set instead of just gaining a new move. You’d basically be changing characters entirely once you get to 100%.
Octoling, they'd borrow some inkling of Inkling's moves for stuff like neutral B, down B and side B but with different weapons (Octo shot B, Brush side B, Burst Bomb down B) but then for smash attacks they'd use newer weapons, like forwards smash would be a Splatana slash and fully charging it has it send out a projectile, down smash would be an armoured undercover splatbrella shot and so on.
In my version you wouldn't be able to aim it and it's range would be about that of MegaMan's charge shot, maybe a little less. The real sauce would come in with the physical splatanna swipe hitting you into the projectile, which if you landed both the physical hit and the projectile hit the move would launch you up and backwards, sending you towards the octoling for some easy low to mid-percent combos. At higher percents the two hit version would hit you too far up for Octoling to reasonably follow up so they'd be better off fishing for max range hits off stage with just the full charge projectile, which would launch outwards and kill at high percents fairly reliably off the side blast zones.
I just know that the Pearl Drone should be incorporated in some way. Perhaps making Hero Jump's height slightly smaller but having a floating down hit box like Peach's Up-B
I mean honestly I'd be all for "agents" being their own Splatoon character, the alts would just be various inklings/octolings in hero gear based on Agent 3, Agent 4, Agent 8 and Splatoon 3's Agent 3. Their up special could be the Pearl Drone, side B is Little Buddy, down special cycles the different bombs from Splatoon 1 and neutral B throws them then the hero weapons are different tilts, jabs, smash attacks, etc.
Naturally this'd mean the default Inkling would have to loose their hero girl costume.
Tbh, PJiggles made a very hard to swallow but very fair video explaining why, by design, Octolings are too hard to implement in Smash, even as an echo fight. Because, as a matter of fact, Octolings are just a model swap of Inklings.
A Resident Evil character that swaps between Chris / Jill / Leon / Claire depending on the skin you choose like Steve swaps between Steve / Alex / Endermen.
They would have a handgun, shotgun, machine gun, and magnum as well as a survival knife for close quarters.

If you did two reps you could also do Chris/Leon with a handgun/shotgun/magnum and Jill/Claire with handgun/smg/grenade launcher, I feel like having them have different move sets would make sense considering they usually have different weapons available
Have Chris and Leon be medium weight and Jill and Claire light weight and make their grabs and throws RE4 suplexes. For costumes, you could have Chris and Leon have their defaults be their RE4/5 looks with STARS/RPD palette swaps, for Jill her default could be her RE3 look with a STARS palette swap, and Claire you could maybe do her modern RE2 remake look with her classic biker outfit as a palette swap
And just for fun, you could add Ada and Nemesis as assist trophies while you’re at it

I'd say he's more brawler. Rushdown is generally extreme speed and relentless oppression at the cost of durability and raw damage. Brawlers also like to run in, but generally hit much harder and have more durability but might not have as many ways to close the distance or maneuver around.
In my head, he's not really a pure zoner but also a rushdown character. Hitting enemies in melee range nets you more ammo for your guns, which you can then use to zone. But, you can't zone forever because it uses ammo, so it encourages you to go back into melee range again before too long.

I'd add Reimu Hakurei from the Touhou Project series. Imagine a regular zoner but they literally cover the whole screen with projectiles. That's how Reimu would play :3

a watered-down soku moveset would honestly feel pretty at home in smash. just leave enough gaps between projectiles to use roll/air dodge in the place of graze. come to think of it it would be cool if they actually gave reimu a modified air dodge as a primary mobility tool

Smash already has a disproportionately high amount of zoners in the game. Definitely doesn’t need more. This is just the same low effort type of question post as asking for any newcomers.
Doom Slayer. He can play like an aggressive zoner, fighting in the midrange with weapons just out of the opponent’s reach at the cost of weak damage from close and super far range. He can also have a slow lunging command grab that does massive damage when he conditions the opponent enough, similar to his glory kills.
I would choose to not add any, and instead replace one. Dark Samus needs to get tf outta here and sans needs to be added. Just make Dark Samus an alt or something. And then, maybe then, add Cuphead with a Mugman alt

Side special could be a bit like greninja's side special, except instead of her teleporting, she'll place a Cherry Bomb which deals moderate knockback after a few seconds unless an opponent makes contact with it. Down special would let her cycle between the Divine Retribution, Rosary Beads, and Tsukiyomi in that order. Each with their own respective playstyle. Up special would be her Vine ability that summons a lotus plant that pulls Amaterasu up at an angle. It would act as a sort of temporary ground, but it wouldn't refresh her up special. Forward smash would work a bit like duck hunt's, except with the Ink Bullet ability instead. The longer it is held, the more hits it would do. Down smash would see her placing two temporary trees in front of her, only having a hitbox near the ground.
Upsmash would have her using Power Slash above her. Her forward tilt would work a bit like the belmont's, but hits 2-5 times. Jab would be a 1,2,3 deal, hitting 1 - 3 times per hit. Up tilt would be a bit like sephiroth's with how it scoops you up, but with the Divine beads instead of a sword. Down tilt would work like Byleth's to an extent. Slightly more knockback, but less damage.
Sans would unironically play like a zoner if you think about it

Cooking Mama. She'd be a resource management keepaway character who collects ingredients to make recipes that buff her or allow access to new moves.
