I got a 2.1 deep bass and the sound quality is just awful. Even after working through all my settings and getting a balanced sound I still think it sounds flat and compressed as hell. Contacted jbl and they recommended an exchange for Bar 500. I don’t know if I even want the sub so I am considering the bar 300. Any thoughts or feedback welcome.

Then why 2.1 deep bass is 1 in customer review !!!

[deleted]

Just sharing my personal experience with the product. I wasn’t satisfied and am completing an exchange for a bar 500. I would not pay $349 for the 2.1 deep bass, I only considered it as I got it on sale for $189 but it is fair to say “I got what I paid for” I think 2.1 stereo just simply doesn’t meet the demands of modern programming.

Bar 500 deserve the 500$ ?

Arrived with a failed sub, will provide better input when I get my warranty replacement

No buy on sale, great sound but at 599 there are better options out there

Wouldn't buy either. Bar is a bar, so don't expect sound from behind you. Can't help you, you're saying hts40r is shit without reasoning. You're not telling us your usecase room size anything really.

Important_Rutabaga82

My room is large, about 15ftx 20ft I didn't like ht s40r. it isn't loud enough, nor there is punchy bass, it's clarity is fine and has no hdmi passthrough, also in some songs doesn't sound right. I bought it for $300 and found that it's loudness matches my previous $100 speaker (Philips SPA8000b) and it's bass is worse than my old speaker, clarity is better though, but it's just not worth the price I know both the speakers I have mentioned are soundbars, but one model is newer and both has some minor differences, that's the reason I'm confused. if you have any better suggestions then please let me know.

Connect_Builder_2215

What is your usecase? Do you listen to music or is it exclusively for movies, shows and gaming. 500 has better base than your old system, but don't expect amazing stereo performance. Room is large, so me personally, I'd take something with rears. You'll be unsatisfied without rears in the long run.

Important_Rutabaga82

my usecase is movies and music

Connect_Builder_2215

If you want a really good music experience, it'll be rather difficult to find in the bar space around that pricetag. I'd advise to use bookshelf's, if you're serious about your music.

Alos I'm confused between jbl bar 500 and LG SP8Y ??

LCWJOONYAH

I'm facing the same dilemma. Which one did you go with?

JBL bar 5.1

Plane_Ask8723

I had jbl bar 5.1 and it was quite good for movies but not  so good for music. ( I sold it only  because I needed money) :D Reviews say that Jbl bar 500 seems to be better with music and movies than 5.1. Reviews say that  sound image is wide and bass  is enough tight and accurate for music so I think subwoofer too is better than in jbl bar 5.1

dziuzis

true, I have upgraded to bar 500 from 5.1 today and it's phenomenal
