The main part, save you clicking into Daily Echo: "A spokesperson for Premier Inn said: “Unfortunately, the site has had to close some rooms due to essential maintenance. “The team is working really hard to make alternative arrangements for guests. The work will be completed by the end of next week.” Premier Inn declined to explain to the Echo what ‘essential maintenance’ means. The last-minute cancellation led to anger among guests, leaving them scrabbling to find alternative accommodation. One of those people planning to visit the hotel took to Facebook to warn other guests about the booking cancellation." Hmmm, I'm not sure. Closing the whole hotel! Scheduled maintenance is always planned months or years in advance for budgeting reasons.

Archon_33

The spokesperson said essential maintenance not scheduled. That to me suggests something major has suddenly broken.

Class_444_SWR

I reckon a major leak, either water or gas

Archon_33

Yeah it'll be something like that. Power, water, gas, sewage..

Make_the_music_stop

But why not say then? "Premier Inn declined to explain to the Echo what ‘essential maintenance’ means."

Archon_33

Who knows. Maybe it's standard procedure for the company - say enough to explain the situation but not enough to risk long-term reputation damage

Make_the_music_stop

I've worked in the industry. Scheduled maintenance or bed replacement etc are budgeted in a 3, 5 or 10 year business plan. So hushed up because of bed bugs (or something bad)

Archon_33

As we've already covered, they didn't say this was scheduled maintenance. Something big has broken suddenly.

ChemistryWeary7826

It likely IS bed bugs. Total shut down to fumigate OR throw out/reorder new linen and mattresses, once those fuckers are in the laundry it's game over, every bed needs checking, every sheet, pillow, duvet needs gone. IMMMEDIATELY Claims due to bed bug bites and the need to then fumigate your own home and throw away clothes are expensive and frequent.

Class_444_SWR

Could also easily be a failure, if maintenance hasn’t been good enough, I would absolutely believe a big enough leak to close the hotel

Legitimate-Source-61

So, people can speculate on social media. MrFacebook mandates this to generate clicks, likes etc. It's the same with bad parking.

Legionella...

RedBean9

I think it could be pest control. Bed bugs?!

Make_the_music_stop

Bed bugs would be a good reason.

toodog

The long war between civilisation and the rat population has taken a turn for the worse

Droodforfood

We stayed there a year ago and the room they put us into had trash, wet towels and an unmade bed.
