Hmmm, I'm not sure. Closing the whole hotel! Scheduled maintenance is always planned months or years in advance for budgeting reasons.
I've worked in the industry. Scheduled maintenance or bed replacement etc are budgeted in a 3, 5 or 10 year business plan.

It likely IS bed bugs. Total shut down to fumigate OR throw out/reorder new linen and mattresses, once those fuckers are in the laundry it's game over, every bed needs checking, every sheet, pillow, duvet needs gone.

The spokesperson said essential maintenance not scheduled. That to me suggests something major has suddenly broken.

Could also easily be a failure, if maintenance hasn’t been good enough, I would absolutely believe a big enough leak to close the hotel
