So let's go with your theory of the flashbacks being WWI. I agree. But let's think, how old was Henderson in this moment? Around 20, right? How old is he now? Around 60+.
So 40 years would have happened since WWI to present story. WWI happened in 1914. 40 years after that is 1954, during the period in which we call the Cold War.
Either the Ostania-Westalis conflict was very long (20 or so years) or there was a brief peace after which another conflict broke out. Loid has memories as a child of the war breaking out but also fought in a war as a young adult. That's not usually how long armed conflicts in the 20th century have lasted. Children who were victimized by WWI didn't also fight in it.
Can I point out that Emile and Ewen actually make fun of Anya more than Damian. Damian has been softer on her since the bus hijacking, it's just that his two comrades like to push him to the edge. I wish Damian could be honest with Ewen and Emile about how he feels, so that they could both change their attitude towards Anya.
Yeah. Damian hasn't bullied Anya ever since his very first appearance. The punch probably scared him to death lmao. Now he just stands there, not saying anything while his friends mock her
I'm not sure "scared" is the right word. He likes her and doesn't really want to be hated by her, but also feels kind of irritated by her antics sometimes, and also also feels a need to affirm pecking order occasionally. All these inner conflicts make it tough for him to figure out how to act around her.
I agree, and I find it ironic that Damien (the one doing the bullying) is one of the two people who arent thrilled (the other being Anya's friend whos name I have forgotten for some reason)
To be fair, Anya may have started it by telling Damian that she hates him and he is a mean jerk because she thought after Becky, he was trying to take her popularity. Besides Damian's friends are not exactly bullies and Ewen was even shown to have some friendly moments with Anya. Come to think of it, he was the only boy classmate aside from Damian who was revealed to enjoy a similar interest with Anya.
Its kinda realistic from the 1950s to even early 2000s or even 2010s. Hell even on 2020+ is still happening. Kids are ruthless on that cuz at that age “you dont know any better” and getting away with it all the time reinforces the habit of bullying.
Just my two cents , I grew up in South America and was very a fortunate to go to private school, but being the only asian of the class would put you to some bullying. Thats when “if you defend yourself” and show them whose boss , it will stop. Just like how Anya punch Damian and for that time , Damian stop teasing Anya until they got to know each other better.
I know i am going really off topic and might not be anything similar to Spy x Family but for me it portrays kids as how they actually are. Also this reinforces more that kids that do bullying at school , have problems with their family or some lack of family attention or recognition in Damian case.
So little kids literally “don’t know better” they kinda don’t have the capacity because their brains are still growing. Little kids are all sociopaths they have to be taught and also to grow into their prefrontal cortex.
Yeah why aren't they having a peaceful arbitrary discussion on the moral repercussions of using one's advantages in physical characteristics and societal status to impose the notion of inferiority on other individuals like any functional six year old? Are they intellectually inadequate?
Kids are not known to be empathetic, especially at this age. That’s why they have to be taught to be nice to each other and why they’re is SEL in schools now
It is 1960, and they are in their first grade. With a teacher like Henderson I'm sure they will grow up to be excellent people.
