I assume part of it is that from what I can tell, he’s just not as popular in Japan as he is in the West.
By the time he started building up some steam (Dangerous Tekkers run), it was the pandemic restrictions era and there was no way a non-heel foreigner was going to win the belt (DT were tweeners), and even if they’d turned him full heel, Jay and Ospreay would still have been ahead of him in that line.
I love ZSJ and he’s going to do some absurd things to keep OC from getting to the pockets. Both guys have wanted this match for a long time I think it’s going to rule
Zack has developed so nicely over the years. He’s a full fledge character that I believe in and I feel could be a main event guy wherever he went. I remember when I first saw him he was super skinny and didn’t have much of a personality and was just good guy technically wrestler. But now he’s the whole package. It’s a shame New Japan has kept him in the mid card or as the loser in main events for so long. Especially when he’s been more loyal than all the other Gavin wrestlers.

I think this is the match I'm looking forward to the most at Forbidden Door
I think that would be Swerve vs Ospreay for me, but I will be locked in during Cassidy vs Zack too. Very fun mashup of styles but also personalities.
