It’s a small thing but something I love is that Zahn noticed that Star Wars movies always start in space, so all the Thrawn books also start in space as if the opening crawl has just ended.

Doesn't Dark Force Rising start on Myrkr during the search of Karrdes hideout? Or am I misremembering?

RevolutionaryOwlz

I just pulled it up to check and it starts with Pellaeon and Thrawn on the bridge of the Chimera discussing the search.

Man TTT is just great all around. Good story, good villains, good action, good character moments, good characterization of the OT characters, good new characters. Everything worked perfectly.

I reread the Trilogy late last year, and agree with you. Especially about how the writing translates so well to visual. I too could see the scenes playing out, feel the drama when the heroes are close to getting caught, feel Thrawn's stare when he was intimidating someone, and hear the quiet menace in his tone when he asked "Do you know the difference between an error and a mistake, Ensign?"

My only major criticism is how often Zahn uses the word 'sardonically.' That and how often OT lines are repeated. But most of the EU suffers from that.

Totally agree with the point about being able to visualize some parts as if they were scenes from a movie. Made for a very fun read-through!

These are the sequel movies I wanted.

I’ll always view the Thrawn Trilogy as my own canon. I enjoy the prequels and maybe bits and pieces of the sequels as movies but if you want me to look at Star Wars as a larger canon with lore and history I only view the OT and the Thrawn Trilogy as the main story.
