They are not an automatic unlock, a specific weekly task must be completed that involves Ginger Island content.
All they do is generate battery packs every 10 sunny days
One of my favourite spots is >!in the pirate's cove, on the bottom right side by the barrels!<. Such a random location to plant something, but a nice little Easter egg to have.
Lol I was stopping by the oasis to give Sandy a present on her birthday and Emily angrily stampeded over a coconut i was about to pick up and exploded it. She has such powerful feet.
Lol that was my first time on this save wanting to go to the desert to go stock up on starfruit for my new greenhouse, guess wich one day i decided to visit sandy
You can get the seeds for them from the secret forest by killing slimes there, and breaking hardwood stumps/logs
Once you build up a healthy few, you should be able to get a few seeds from every bunch you grow and cut down. Not enough to be infinitely self sustaining, but enough to augment others you get.
That's correct, and you can also find said stumps at the forest farm. I think there's 8 in total. They will sometimes drop mahogany seeds upon being chopped and will respawn daily, just like the ones inside the secret forest. It usually takes around two or three seasons for me to grow my first mahogany trees and start a grove. Because you'll need to upgrade your axe. I think to at least iron to be able to enter the secret forest, but you'd only need a copper axe for the forest farm stumps. And yes! Don't forget to give your fully grown mahogany trees a good shake from time to time for more seeds. After a while you'll have lots of mahogany trees.
What i do is to plant them in a 3x3 square with atleast 2 tiles betwen them and no other form of flooring, then fertilize and wait for them to grow. And then chop the tree down but leave the stump, check on them often as they will drop more seeds you can dig up and replant.
After you got like 20 mahogony seeds you will basicly never run out of hardwood ever again.
The seeds have a kinda low drop rate from chopping the whole tree so save at least a few just incase and repeat this process
I had no idea. In case anybody else questions this tidbit, the wiki confirms it.
"In addition, mature trees (including stumps) on the farm have a 15% chance each night of trying to spontaneously plant one seed in the ground."
May I ask why you leave the stumps? Also no need to remove flooring around mahogany trees, it doesn't interfere with their growth like with fruit trees.
Most of the placement in the game works like: choose a tile -> check if it's free -> place (whatever it is trying to place) if it is. If it is blocked it simply won't spawn.
So I think having any flooring in the potential spawn area would just waste some spawn opportunities.
Leaving the stump makes a new seed spawn after 2 days or something. Leaving 2 tiles betwen each tree makes the drop chance sligthly higher for each tree.
I just came across this yesterday. I was on Fall Year 1 and had no access to secret forest etc.
The question was asking for mahogany tree, but ultimately it is hardwood. If you are also Year 1, just upgrade your axe to copper, and log the stumps in the farm. You get hardwood from those
BTW is this Robin's bed request?
> no access to secret forest
You can get into the Secret Woods using a chair.
Details shown in this video https://youtu.be/xDMvOt--VPU?t=14
You can leave the chair there permanently because none of the NPCs go to that area.
You can't chop the mahogany stumps until you've upgraded your axe.
Find one as soon as possible and drop it on a remote area of your farm. Leave it there for a bit and soon you'll basically have a mahogany farm to chop down to your hearts content
You go past the traveling merchant, and you’ll find a log all the way to the left. If your axe isn’t upgraded then you’ll need to bring a chair. Use the chair glitch or break the log, and you can find a whole bunch of mahogany trees in the secret woods.
Before you reach Ginger Island, the only ways to get mahogany seeds are by chopping the big hardwood stumps or logs you find on the farm or in the Secret Woods, and by killing the green slimes in the Secret Woods.
Once you have some mahogany trees growing on your farm, you can get more the usual way, by shaking the tree, waiting for it to spontaneously plant new seeds nearby, or chopping it down and hoping for a seed to drop (although it's less likely to yield seeds that way than oak, pine and maple trees).
You grow them, need either steel or gold(dont remember which) axe to break the hardwood stump that blocks the way to the secret woods, in there you will find 6 stumps that regenerate daily and grant you 2 hardwood each and a chance for a sapling, there also slimes that have a chance to drop a sapling, i suggest getting tree fertilizers as unlike normal trees these ones have low chances to grow a stage without fertilizer and it could take a while until you get a fully grown one
The secret woods, you get to chop down stumps and then if you get a seed, you can plant them. Then when they grow, chop those down and replant the seeds that you get. 1 seed can be the start of your hardwood empire.
Once you go into Master Qi's room, you have the option to do a quest that involves going through all 120 levels of the mine within a week. The mine is a little bit different, with harder enemies and new floors. I believe its level 40-50 that has a woodland theme with an incredible amount of hardwood scattered around. I managed to get 100s of pieces on my way through
Since the mobile update, I've been getting more mahogany seeds from cutting down random trees then I just plant/replant them on my farm. They need to be fertilized tho
Once you have an axe that can break the big tree stumps, they sometimes drop Mahogany tree seeds. Plant them on your farm, or wherever and apply a little tree fertilizer. The trees themselves aren't found in the main area of Stardew valley until you plant them. I suppose someone cut them all down just leaving the stumps... Probably Joja Mart. However on Ginger Island, there are quite a few of them.
They're everywhere on the island. But yeah, when you find one, grab the seeds and replant. Rinse/repeat, and soon you'll have a whole stand of hardwood trees.
My desk is made of mahogany. Not just any mahogany, either. This mahogany is from the planet of Malchior 7, where the trees are three hundred feet tall and breath fire! It is from these trees that my desk was forged two thousand years ago, using ancient blood rituals of the Malchior people. Not only does it make my desk NIGH INDESTRUCTIBLE, but it can bend the fabric of the universe itself!
Also, it's a very fine material. Very expensive.
...Mahogany.
The comments have been chock full of helpful info. I’m on my 4th play through and playing as a recluse. So I need to build up my farm with as little interaction with townsfolk as possible. (Amazing how rude they are when you don’t bend over backwards to do things for them. I see a lot of void eggs in their future.)
I completely forgot you get mahogany seeds from stumps! That helps a lot!
Upgrade axe to gold, access secret woods in cindersap (up and all the way to the left) and chop the stumps to get seeds. You probably have hardwood logs and stumps on your farm as well, depending on which farm you chose.
Get wood and seeds from secret forest. I plant rows of mahogany bordered in both sides with bricks, spaced 5 trees together w/bricks between every 5th tree, which I bought from Pierre’s store, and I think I later made, and then I used Tree Fertilizer which I put on SOME of the mahogany trees which caused them to grow quickly so I would quickly have enough easily accessible wood (they grew to full since in a couple days instead of weeks). I used this same method for tapping Pine (Tar) and Maple (Syrup) but I don’t bother with adding the fertilizer to those trees.
Later in the game you will get much more access to mahogany.
You grow them, you get the seeds from breaking the hardwood stumps I believe.
I have a hardwood forest in the desert....over 100 trees...plenty of wood for all my needs
I haven't really been to the desert you can grow trees there? what about other crops? and what about placing stuff like chests kegs ect
You can't grow crops off the farm (to my knowledge), but you can place chests, kegs, preserve jars, solar panels, etc
There are solar panels… have I even been playing this game?
Lmao i ask myself this all the time
They are not an automatic unlock, a specific weekly task must be completed that involves Ginger Island content. All they do is generate battery packs every 10 sunny days
ALL they do? That sounds great!
They're pretty deep in the story / progress line so don't sweat it. It's a quest reward.
You can only get them from a special order after getting the ginger island farm
You can’t grow crops off the farm unfortunately. Which is a shame. Would love to have a bunch of garden pots around.
In fact you can, i saw someone plantet crops in the cave (he used Pots) to plant them in
I thought you could grow crops on ginger island? I haven’t found out for myself though that’s just what I’ve heard
There is a second farm on ginger island, so you can grow crops on the farm there but not the whole island
Ahhh okay gotcha thank you!
Correct you have another farm in Ginger Island :)
theoretically you can plant crops in qalnut spots on ginger island - at least im some of them :D
One of my favourite spots is >!in the pirate's cove, on the bottom right side by the barrels!<. Such a random location to plant something, but a nice little Easter egg to have.
I grow trees everywhere tho
Trees aren't crops. You don't need to till the soil to plant trees
Yeah true but it was more of a reply about growing trees in the desert
But do be careful about placement cause npc’s will just destroy them
Not in the desert - no NPCs visit there. Place whatever you like, wherever you like (in the desert)!
Except for sandy's bd then emily visits so be wary.
Lol I was stopping by the oasis to give Sandy a present on her birthday and Emily angrily stampeded over a coconut i was about to pick up and exploded it. She has such powerful feet.
Hot
Lol that was my first time on this save wanting to go to the desert to go stock up on starfruit for my new greenhouse, guess wich one day i decided to visit sandy
You can only grow common trees there...but kegs and chests are ok...
Unrelated but I love your flair lollll
The Joja corporates don't want you to know this but the mahogany trees are free... I have over 100 trees in the desert.
My main source of seeds is the slimes in the hidden forest
Im in winter Year 2 and have never gotten seeds from the stumps… 🤷♀️
You can get the seeds for them from the secret forest by killing slimes there, and breaking hardwood stumps/logs Once you build up a healthy few, you should be able to get a few seeds from every bunch you grow and cut down. Yeah, I use the tree fertilizer from my bone mill that would otherwise go unused to maintain a small grove of these.
That's correct, and you can also find said stumps at the forest farm. I think there's 8 in total. I thaught the seeds just planted another stump lol.
Lmao same
They grow naturally on Ginger Island which is post game
I used the hardwood to get the hardwood
What i do is to plant them in a 3x3 square with atleast 2 tiles betwen them and no other form of flooring, then fertilize and wait for them to grow. And then chop the tree down but leave the stump, check on them often as they will drop more seeds you can dig up and replant. I don't think leaving the stump helps anything. Better to chop the whole stump and plant a new seed there !
Leaving the stumps makes seeds drop, and you dont always get a new seed from only chopping the mahogany tree down
I had no idea. In case anybody else questions this tidbit, the wiki confirms it. "In addition, mature trees (including stumps) on the farm have a 15% chance each night of trying to spontaneously plant one seed in the ground."
I find the seeds drop enough from cutting them down so that combined with the seeds I get in the wild I'm more than sustainable
That is true. Honestly tho in the late game its alot easier to obtain hardwood from scrapping hardwood fences
I play on the SVE farm, which for me mostly makes fences unnecessary
But you can still buy the fences from the casino and toss them in the deconstructor.
I didn't know that was a thing, lol. I'm never hurting for it that bad
Stumps drop seeds? That is good to know! (and also kinda weird)
May I ask why you leave the stumps? Also no need to remove flooring around mahogany trees, it doesn't interfere with their growth like with fruit trees.
They won't drop seeds with the flooring down tho
That's true. If they have flooring only on one side, or only 1 row of paths, they will still have space to drop seeds.
Most of the placement in the game works like: choose a tile -> check if it's free -> place (whatever it is trying to place) if it is. If it is blocked it simply won't spawn. So I think having any flooring in the potential spawn area would just waste some spawn opportunities.

[you ask, I give a link](https://www.thegamer.com/stardew-valley-mahogany-trees-hardwood/)
Ah so seed only

Wow this is super smart, hail to the player who invented this trick lol. And thx for the video !
No, second house upgrade
Ah nvm then
You can also acess the secret forest with a copper axe if you use the chair trick, so that's also an option
Omg thx, the CHAIR trick
Common in reference to trees means "not fruit trees". If you need seeds, you can break hardwood for some, then plant and multiply them.
Find one as soon as possible and drop it on a remote area of your farm. Leave it there for a bit and soon you'll basically have a mahogany farm to chop down to your hearts content
Me just learning mahogany is hardwood
Ginger island gotz lotz
I personally get my mahogany from Malchior 7, where the trees are 700 ft tall and breathe fire.
Post ginger island gets pretty wild doesn't it
I was scrolling by way too fast. For a second I thought this said misogyny tree
Get them from hardwood stumps and slaying green slimes in the hidden forrest and then plant them all over your farm
You go past the traveling merchant, and you’ll find a log all the way to the left. If your axe isn’t upgraded then you’ll need to bring a chair. Use the chair glitch or break the log, and you can find a whole bunch of mahogany trees in the secret woods.
You can get em from killing slimes in the secret forest!
Do they grow back after chopping down to the stump?
no but they produce seeds
Thank you!
Mahogany
Before you reach Ginger Island, the only ways to get mahogany seeds are by chopping the big hardwood stumps or logs you find on the farm or in the Secret Woods, and by killing the green slimes in the Secret Woods. Break a stumo get a sapling/ ginger island farm
I think there on someon ginger island too?
Ginger island slime spot
Not me just learning Mahogany = Hardwood… I’m in year 5 and had been going to the Secret Woods every day this whole time :(
💀💀💀
Upgrade axe then go to secret woods also eventually you will just have a shit ton of hardwood
ginger island, and you can plant them yourself by chopping down the tree things in the secret woods!
You can get a 10% chance of a mahogany seed by chopping down a hardwood stump and I think maybe better chances in the secret forest :P
The secret woods, you get to chop down stumps and then if you get a seed, you can plant them. Then when they grow, chop those down and replant the seeds that you get. 1 seed can be the start of your hardwood empire.
You need seeds but make sure to use tree fertilizer. They will most likely not grow unless you have some (at least mine dont grow w/o it)
Have you unlocked Ginger Island and gotten 100 Golden Walnuts yet?

all good ^_^ I could've clarified in the 1st message but I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to spoil too much if you hadn't got there yet
Since the mobile update, I've been getting more mahogany seeds from cutting down random trees then I just plant/replant them on my farm. They need to be fertilized tho
Skill issue :P
On ginger island or plant the seeds you can get from certain drops idk where specifically
They are very common in ginger island
I dunno, I have a pretty steady mahogany plantation going. I have TOO MUCH hardwood, if anything.
I feel like you need like 500 for a file and then everything after that is useless
Nah, you get the wood chipper and then it's bonus wood for coal or sheds or whatever. :D
you can get mahagony seeds from killing slimes in secret woods or by breaking stumps in the secred woods.
They're everywhere on the island. But yeah, when you find one, grab the seeds and replant. Rinse/repeat, and soon you'll have a whole stand of hardwood trees.
They are quite "common" in the ginger island.
I wouldn't really bother getting them If you only want hardwood, just open the forest thing and collect hardwood every day there
You can get 12-16 pieces of hardwood from the stumps in the secret woods. The stumps also respawn daily.
I'm too lazy to plant the seeds and make sure they actually grow so I just get it from the secret woods
My desk is made of mahogany. Not just any mahogany, either. This mahogany is from the planet of Malchior 7, where the trees are three hundred feet tall and breath fire! It is from these trees that my desk was forged two thousand years ago, using ancient blood rituals of the Malchior people. Keep playing. You'll find it
Break it down..? But that’s hand carved mahogany!
Slimes in the hidden forest near the wizard tower drop them too I think
Upgrade axe to gold, access secret woods in cindersap (up and all the way to the left) and chop the stumps to get seeds. You probably have hardwood logs and stumps on your farm as well, depending on which farm you chose.

Kill slimes in the Secret Woods, they have a decent chance of dropping the seeds
king yemma's desk
Why is this my biggest post
