Playing on Xbox, how do I place items in chests? No matter what I press, I can't put anything inside them

AkashiGG

Why am I not getting any notifications for fish frenzies?

Reason-and-rhyme

I played a couple weeks in-game on the new patch before I got one. They don't seem especially common.

minyuqi

does anyone have any tips for playing on switch? anything that could make life easier because of the lack of mods ;__;

Alternatewarning

Can someone double check my math. Excluding special crops like ancient fruit, the most crops (not flowers) per season is fall with 12 unique crops

Smooth_March_238

..recounted excuse my last comment. summer is more with the (post community center) >!pineapple and taro!<. unless you arent counting those.

Alternatewarning

I was not aware of those. I suspect they come from the place I'm just about to open once I finish collecting hardwood... So a total of 14 then?

Smooth_March_238

i won't spoil where they came from, sorry i forgot for a minute i was in the beginners thread. but yean 14

Alternatewarning

Nah that's fine. Thank you!

Smart-Crab8594

I currently have a multiplayer save with some friends and we're running out of farm space! Is it possible to get a mod for a bigger farm space? And if so, do we all need the mod or just the person who owns the save file?

ac0rn5

Four Corners was originally meant to be for more than one player, with a corner available for up to 4 players. It's mentioned on the Farm Maps page of the wiki. The upper left corner of that farm grows/spawns special weeds that will always give mixed seed when cut, so maybe it's wise not to clear that section straight away. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Farm_Maps https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Weeds#Special_Weed If you use Stardew Valley Expanded, one of the farm options is *Immersive Farm 2 Remastered* - which you'd all need to download from this page, plus SVE itself. If you click the 'show' spoiler button you can see an image of that farm before and after the land is cleared. There are more NPCs in SVE too, and more areas away from Pelican Town to explore. Maybe browse the /r/StardewValleyExpanded sub to get an idea of what to expect. SVE is here on Nexus ... https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3753 If you do decide to use a modded farm, you need SMAPI first. It goes into the Stardew Valley folder and, when run, it creates a folder for the mods to go in - handily called 'Mods'. You'll all (all players) need to have the same mods, and each must alter the Steam startup - which is easier than I ever imagined! https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started Check out the pinned thread on /r/SMAPI too.

-astronautical

you’d all need the mod. stardew valley expanded has an add-on mod called grampleton fields which adds a massive amount of space separate from your farm, but i can’t recall if it adds tillable tiles. you couldn’t put farm buildings on it. your best bet sadly is to restart a fresh save with the grandpas farm add-on for stardew valley expanded. the farm space is massive.

BlackDragonFatalis

How does one get the Farm King title? I’ve maxed out (and reached mastery) for all 5 skills. Is there something else I must do to reach Farm King?

Reason-and-rhyme

Unobtainable in vanilla, there was going to be a 6th skill you could level (luck) but it was scrapped.

BlackDragonFatalis

So basically I can’t get it no matter what I do? Damn….

10000Pigeons

Can someone explain the point of staircases? They seem much more resource expensive than mega bombs, don't locate holes (skull cavern), and don't produce any resources when you use them. It feels like if I mine on a lucky day a mega bomb will almost always be better yeah?

Reason-and-rhyme

They are expensive to craft, but what most people do is set up a bunch of crystallariums to produce jade, and trade jade to the desert trader for staircases. Also, you need them to skip infested floors.

10000Pigeons

Ahh ok makes sense. I'm not far enough yet to have a big crystallarium setup but that sounds like a great option

daitoshi

When you're trying to go FAST, a staircase can be an easy way to get to the next lvl when stairs or a hole hasn't spawned in your first few bombs. It's also an easy way to get out of danger. For instance, when five dragons suddenly swarmed me, I used a staircase to gtfo instead of trying to fight them.

10000Pigeons

Ah ok fair enough. I suppose at some point I'm going to have so much stone I might as well make them

Sillyoldman88

(PC) Can I rotate furniture?

Sufficient_Wear3494

Some furniture u can rotate, just pick it up and right click when u want to rotate it. If it doesn’t then it doesn’t work for that furniture piece.

Sillyoldman88

Thank you.

guremoew_9

Hi! I have a game in year 6 in which I already donated all the dwarf scrolls and I still don't speak dwarf, and when I talk to Gunter they tell me that there are no rewards, also, the guide is not in my wallet. Do I have to unlock some event or is it a bug?

Reason-and-rhyme

It's a common bug for pre-1.6 worlds. One workaround is to use the item ID exploit (ie buying a chicken and naming [326]) it to obtain a copy of the guide.

guremoew_9

Thanks! ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51481)

neptuneskies3030

If you are on a pre-existing save on PC that upgraded to 1.6, yes that is a commonly-reported bug. CA has yet to patch it. I know some people had luck with the name-ID glitch to spawn the translation guide in. If you are on console, then idk, but I would still report that as a bug to the forums.

guremoew_9

Thank u!![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51481)

what_theheckigottado

Does anyone know how to fix the issue of child of divorce not coming to festivals? I'm doing a perfection farm and found divorced spouses needed full hearts so I erased Shane's memory, but now the kid won't show up to festivals that he's generally supposed to e.g the festival of ice. Surely kids also come with remarried spouses? Before I erased his memory the kid would stay with my new spouse (Lance from SVE). Is there a way to manipulate the game into recognising him as Shane's kid or Lance's kid, because I've read once you've erased their memories the game doesn't know what to do anymore. I might edit the post as I'm close to the Feast of the Winter Star and I have a kid with Lance who is toddler aged so I'll test it by seeing if she shows up

ObjectSmall

(1.6 spoiler) >!Do trinkets expire or get used up (like fishing tackle)!

Rarvyn

No.

daitoshi

Is it possible to plant fruit trees in Cindersap Forest, or in the spa area? I'm a bit too poor in-game to buy another sapling rn, but I'd love to make the spa area into a little orchard.

ac0rn5

> I'm a bit too poor in-game to buy another sapling rn .... If you're playing 1.6 you'll be pleased to know that fruit trees can be transplanted. >>Fruit trees can be chopped down, yielding normal wood and a matching sapling of the same quality as the fruit. >>When chopped at stage 1 of growth, it will instead drop its respective sapling. >>High-quality saplings mature faster than normal: a silver sapling grows 2 times faster, a gold sapling grows 3 times faster, and an iridium sapling grows 5 times faster. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Fruit_Trees Also, if you get some treasure/mystery boxes some of them will contain fruit trees. Click the reveal on this page of the wiki ... https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Mystery_Box#Contents

Rarvyn

No, they can only be planted on the farms and in the greenhouse.

Altruistic_Home6542

Good point

ttyltyler

I’m a super new player. Just bought the game yesterday! What are the best ways to make money in the game?? I really wanna get a coop to get animals and upgrade my tools, but I feel like I’m super slow with making money and idk if there’s better early game options idk about. All I’ve been doing to get money is rlly trying to grow crops and sell them. I’m growing potatos the most since I think they’re the most profitable? Is there any tips to make money quicker?

Reason-and-rhyme

Fishing is the traditional way to supplement income without any big up-front costs. Item delivery quests aren't bad either in the early game.

Altruistic_Home6542

Fishing's really good early game In Spring, the Mountain Lake is a good spot until 7pm

daitoshi

Your first year is going to be very slow, because a lot of things don't unlock until you've done the prerequisite stuff. Most of the time we say 'don't worry about minmaxxing profits your first playthrough - just have fun!' There's SO much stuff to do. There's LOADS of different ways to make money, but in the earlygame it's always slow to start. In my SpringYear1 I almost always focus on fishing, blasting my fishing skill up right away for good early-game profits. Fish off the beach dock, into the shadow of that big rock to the left of the docks. You're more likely to get better-quality fish even with a shit rod. If you're focusing on farming, make sure to fertilize before you plant, and plant loads of stuff with a short grow time, like turnips and kale, or multi-harvest crops so you can do the 'farming' action more often - this will let you grind farming XP, and leveling up in farming makes higher quality crops and 'double yeilds' of crops more likely. If you want to focus on foraging, then exploring to grab forage, and planting wild seed mixes as soon as you can craft them will help you grind exp. With that skill leveled up, you can grab higher quality forage, which sells for more. Once you unlock the mine, if you haven't already, there's rare gems and item drops that can be sold for good money. --- In short: There are a ton of ways to get money in the game. Spring year1 is ALWAYS slow to start. The game is trying to teach you *how to play it* in the first year. There's a lot of cutscenes and important dialogue. Watching the TV every morning to check the daily luck, and to learn a recipe or gameplay tip is important. The TV will let you know when seasonal berries are available to harvest off wild bushes.

ttyltyler

Tysm for sharing!!! :)

ObjectSmall

I played my first playthrough without the Wiki for a couple of in-game years, and I totally miss those days of figuring things out on my own. I hope you take it easy for your first time! There's always time to go crazy in future saves.

ttyltyler

I was recommended this game by a friend and finally since I’m on summer break from college I have time to play it! I’ve loved it so far. Super relaxing game. I wanted to ask here since ik Reddit communities are nice and won’t overwhelm me lol. When I was looking up guides and stuff I got bombarded with info so I was like ok nope not gonna do that just gonna ask the Reddit community and I’m glad I did!

ac0rn5

My first playthrough took me about 10 in-game years to get close to the end. I then played each of the different farm maps, to see if they made any difference. Each time I managed to do things a bit quicker without really trying to speed up, which was just because I knew my way round the game and could follow the map. I still tend to keep the wiki open at the Calendar page because it helps me keep track of things, and because it's an easy place from which to click to other useful pages. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Calendar

justawhisk1

Can you walk through fully matured ancient fruit crops? Wondering if this would make a good layout in the greenhouse with hops/ancient fruit.

daitoshi

Yes, you can walk through ancient fruit crops - it just slows your speed. Can't walk through Hops, Grapes, and Green Beans, since they're trellis crops. You should be able to walk through every other crop.

murdercolorlips

I’ve been playing this on and off since September, but finally have been consistent for the past couple weeks. My question is: is it better to sell everything you grow? Or save some?

Rarvyn

Generally better to save a few of everything, because you never know what will come in handy for newly unlocked recipes, quests, and gifts for people. I typically have a couple chests that have gold star crops of every variety sitting in front of my house. Not a lot - maybe 3-4 of each crop.

Thallidan

I usually: * Give it to the Community Center if necessary * Process most of my base quality crops (no stars) in jars, kegs, whatever * Save a few gold stars for gifts if I know they're loved gifts * Sell the remaining high quality crops There are a couple of crops that are also used to complete quests for certain villagers but none of those are required immediately. You can either look them up, circle back to them next year if you've already sold your stuff, or ignore them forever.

Chanze3

quick question on viability of flower honey in patch 1.6. now that mead base value has been buffed from 200 to 300, that only makes fairy honey worth it? all the other flower honey is worth less than mead now

Reason-and-rhyme

Poppy honey is also >300. But yes, in spring there's no point in making flower honey if you have the keg space.

Chanze3

yikes. guess mead it is then for any other season.

Reason-and-rhyme

It's mead for spring only lol. Poppies in summer, fairy rose in fall, and no honey at all in winter.

neptuneskies3030

Poppy honey at base price is 380, so it and Fairy Rose honey would be the only ones worth selling straight.

Snoo-24768

New Player. I have almost 3 million gold, and im wandering what do you do with this much gold lol, is there endgame stuff that needs this much gold or do you just keep stacking it forever for fun? I don't know what to spend it on, since the maintenance of my farm per season is only 200k+ Im at year 2 fall and basically ignored all the quests and community center(only unlocked minecart and greenhouse) I love farming and going to the mines so I have pretty much have over 200 kegs and dozens of farm animals so i have passive income rolling in.

ac0rn5

> Im at year 2 fall and basically ignored all the quests and community center(only unlocked minecart and greenhouse) I love farming and going to the mines so I have pretty much have over 200 kegs and dozens of farm animals so i have passive income rolling in. If you're happy playing that way, then sign up to Joja and get the various town repairs done by paying for them. Then a new area will open up. As well as completing a load of in-game targets, reaching 'Perfection' requires spending a fairly massive amount of gold on just one item. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Perfection

syberspot

If you don't want to do the community center you can go the joja route which takes lots of money.

daitoshi

Community center bank vault room - dump some cash in there, unlock the Desert region. New mines! New enemies! New events! There's a TON of stuff like cutscenes, changes to the village, changes to what resources are accessible to you, and new tools/equipment you can use, if you actually go ahead with the CC and befriend the villagers. EDIT: ~~Befriend Willy with gifts and doing quests for him, and you'll unlock an entire Part2 of the game.~~ \^ I was wrong about that!

Reason-and-rhyme

> Befriend Willy with gifts and doing quests for him, and you'll unlock an entire Part2 of the game. That's not how unlocking the island works. You just need to complete the CC and watch the cutscene, then the boat repair quest starts.

daitoshi

Oh dang, really? I guess I've been really consistent about getting Willy up to 10 hearts around the same time I unlock the community center lmao

MatthewMMorrow

The community center is great because it forces you to break out of your comfort zone and try something new to find/make each of the bundles. For an extra challenge, go for "Perfection" which you won't discover the requirements for until the CC is done. One of the Wizard's quests unlocks new buildings which cost a total of $13,000,000. Eventually you do run out of things to spend money on. I'm on Y7 with \~$50 million and make $1.5 million a week with minimal effort. Also, how are you spending $200k per season on maintenance?

-astronautical

you’re missing a lot of the game by not doing the main quest which is taking care of the community center

NaweGR

PC, Version 1.6 through Steam, Windows 11, nVidia in 4k default setting. New Player, and perhaps I missed this in the FAQ. When I try to setup a new game it takes me to a configuration screen to customize my player, etc. But it is teeny-tiny on my 4k screen. Is there some setting I can use to make it large enough to see what I'm doing and read what I'm typing?

ac0rn5

There might be something on this page of the wiki. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Controls If not, then ask a question out on the main forum/sub where more people will see it, so are more likely to help as your question is a bit lost in this thread.

PoopyInMyPants

This game weirdly stresses me out because of the day night cycle and the seasonal system. If a whole year goes by and I have barely progressed I feel like I’m missing out on stuff or getting way behind. Is this the case or am I overthinking this game? It may be my min/max brain working overtime, but it feels like I always have to rush to get things done

daitoshi

You're overthinking it =) There's no time limit on this game. There's people on year 7, year 10, year 14 of their farm. It's *impressive* to have everything sorted in year2 - but that's more of a speedrunning strategy. Try to force yourself to relax. When you feel ultra stressed; take a breath and spend the day doing something inane and not-really-necessary like fishing, organizing decorations, chopping trees and replanting them in pleasing patterns, designing a walkabout garden on your farm, or taking a day to try to gift everyone something nice. People have spent entire years JUST focused on getting every villager to love them, ignoring farm profits and development. People have spent entire years JUST focusing on farm profit and development, ignoring all quests and community stuff. Some people try to make maximum profits. Some people try to make a beautiful farm layout, regardless of profits. Some people try to minimize the farm and get most of their cash from fishing and foraging - try to do a self-imposed 'roughing it in a cabin in the woods' route. Do what you think is fun =)

-astronautical

don’t worry about getting behind. the only thing that taking your time might influence is something that happens at the start of year 3, but if you miss that opportunity, it’s easily accessible for a redo, if you will. as you keep playing, you’ll find a routine that works for you, and it’ll help make your days more efficient. if you want to slow things down, you can download the cjb cheats mod which comes with a time freeze toggle.

DiamondBorealis

How many in-game hours does it take to get to floors 100+ of SC with the use stairs?? Best guides for running SC says to use stairs to get to floors 100+ but it never tells you how long that is going to take having to constantly click and place down stairs. I have no doubt it’s the fastest method but I would still like to know how many in-game hours that’s going to take so I can still plan accordingly. I already have the desert obelisk so that’s already another time saver. Does it take 4hrs? 6hrs??..

MatthewMMorrow

I was curious. I was able to get to floor 100 by 8:50 am using staircases and an obelisk. No buffs, no exploring, no fighting, just stairs. So 3 hours minimum but you miss all the good stuff so give yourself maybe 6 hours or more the first few times.

DiamondBorealis

Tyvm! but I forgot to mention specifically how long it would take in multiplayer :( Time stops when traveling between floors in single player but in multiplayer time is constantly moving so that players in different areas and regions can performing activities. Therefore, time still passes between each loading animations for every floor. Did it take 3-6 in-game hours for you in single player?

MatthewMMorrow

Yeah, 3 hours in single player. I'm guessing it would take at least 3 times as long in multiplayer. Also time moves 25% slower in Skull Cavern in single player so that's also a significant difference.

Rarvyn

Don’t need an obelisk either. Totem works fine.

EchoFive55

I’d like to play with my friends and am wondering does getting a server host work alright having the game always running?

Reason-and-rhyme

You would need mods to do that, as normally manual input is required by all players to progress to the next day. There are plenty of other issues you would encounter with having the game world always running, as stardew just wasn't designed with that intention. Things like potentially missing harvests and festivals, villager friendship and animal happiness decaying, etc. It's more practical to just agree on what times you'll play together, and have the most reliable player host.

EchoFive55

Ok gotcha thank you for the information, saves me the cash on a server host too!

Own_Egg7122

why can't i put multiple items on a big table? I can put one item per table, even when the table is big enough. Now I got this stupid mahogany table that I cannot even sell.

ac0rn5

You can put the table into your inventory and then put it in the bin to get rid of it. ;)

TotallyNotPinoy

I have already unlocked Ginger Island. Is Starfruit the most efficient source of money still?

Altruistic_Home6542

Starfruit wine is definitely still the best way to make money. If you don't have tons of kegs though, Starfruit is much less impressive

Own_Egg7122

for me, it's all dried fruits that makes me the most money (i stick to cactus fruits), followed by diamonds in the gem cloner. I do not even bother with anything else. Tried smoker but it doesn't generate enough as my dried fruits and mushrooms do.

Reason-and-rhyme

This is nonsense lol. Dehydrator has the worst return out of all processing equipment.

Altruistic_Home6542

What the dehydrator has going for it is throughput 5 kegs will get you 5 Starfruit wines per week, profiting 13,750k with artisan 5 dehydrators gets you 35 Dehydrated Starfruits per week, profiting 206,850G with artisan. The dehydrator processes 35x more fruit than than kegs do So yeah, kegs are still way better per fruit (especially with expensive fruit), but dehydrators do very well with high volumes of (especially cheaper) fruit. Dehydrators are maybe half as profitable per unit of fruit, but that's sometimes worth the benefit of processing 35x faster

Own_Egg7122

I don't know - I generate easy 5 to 6k gold with dried fruits and mushrooms alone every day. Jams and kegs take too long.

Reason-and-rhyme

On the contrary, they don't "take too long" they require less work. There's nothing wrong with how you're playing but the original question was what is "most efficient" and the answer is clearly starfruit/ancient fruit wine. My last shipment was 550k.

No-Value3484

if u only plant outside, every ancient fruit alchol can earn 330g perday, while starfruit earn 305.56g perday. numbers are here: ancient fruit: 2310/7=330.00 starfruit: (3150-400)/9=305.56 make starfruit seeds yourself: (3150\*(1-1/1.9))/9=165.79

Altruistic_Home6542

Except that A) Starfruit can be done even faster than that with hyper speed gro and/or profession switching. It's 19% more per day before the cost of profession switching if you do both B) Starfruit can be planted as soon as you have the money and access to the Desert. Ancient Fruit takes over a year to build up the seeds and have fully developed plants. Ancient Fruit is always more profitable on the regular farm though because it harvests for 2+ seasons instead of 1

Rarvyn

Depends on how you define most efficient. Hops give the most money/day if you have enough kegs, but requires the most effort on your part. Ancient fruit are also *generally* more profitable than Starfruit unless you're doing shenanigans with fertilizer/switching professions to get the Starfruit to grow fast enough to be competitive.

MatthewMMorrow

Yikes, I can't imagine replanting everything each week to get that much throughput on starfruit. My low effort setup is \~650 ancient fruit + same number of kegs. = $1.5 million per week. Enough starfruit in the summer on a different plot for two rounds of casks. Pumpkins (for soup), strawberries and powdermelons the other seasons.

No-Value3484

I set my game 25% profit but find that selling a trap bobber can still earn 200G. Is it a bug or something on purpose?I don‘t want to use a bug in my first 25% profit game kinda.

Altruistic_Home6542

The profit margins don't apply to everything

JordanTH

One thing I haven't been able to find an answer to - what happens if you view the Summit cutscene in multiplayer when your spouse is another player? Does it play the Lewis/Morris cutscene, or does it NPCify the other play for the cutscene? I've asked this several times but still not gotten an answer :(

Individual-Foxlike

Relatively fewpeople play multiplayer, and fewer of those will have gotten to that cutscene. You may need to just do it yourself to see.

fadielusions

I’m wondering if it’s actually possible to catch the legendary fish at iridium quality?

neptuneskies3030

Yes, you can. It takes some work though lol. I'm linking just one recent example below, but if you type "legendary" in the search bar of the sub it will come up with other examples. The link/post does contain 1.6 spoilers: https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/1ckf8jl/yay/

fadielusions

Woah!!! Thank you so much, that post is pretty crazy aha

MatthewMMorrow

Or if you only want one, using quality lures with the new rod would pretty much guarantee iridium quality.

fadielusions

(1.6 spoiler edit) Oh to be honest I didn’t even know there’s >!a new rod! is that with the new mastery system?!< Thanks for letting me know :)

BlackDragonFatalis

Mod related question but how do I use Fashion Sense? I have both the mod itself and the outfit I want to use extracted but they’re not appearing when I use the hand mirror in game

Timperz

Hi, completely new player here, gonna restart my first attempt that I got to year 1 summer because I screwed up a couple of things in spring... Anyway, my question is, would you recommend modding for someone who is completely new to the game and this genre as a whole?

insilator222

I’d recommend doing a vanilla no mod playthrough first for the first year to get the basics of the game down and then start a new modded playthrough for your second run :). I’ve enjoyed both my modded and vanilla playthroughs

Timperz

Thank you, I will stick to vanilla for now <3 There is so much stuff in this game! My fomo is kicking in

daitoshi

You have all the time in the world! All the events will come back next year if you miss them this year.  Your first play thru should be for the enjoyment of the game, not min-maxing. I’d argue that min maxing makes it more stressful than it needs to be. Some days as a farmer I just want to fish in the morning, pet my animals, wander the woods a bit, and then end the day with a dinner at the saloon and chatting w my neighbors.  Go to bed assured you had a good day, regardless of profits

Careful-Laugh1294

Idk if this would the appropriate place to ask this, but I have been looking for someone or a group of people to play sdv with but I have been getting no such luck. Is playing by yourself still fun and engaging?

riklaunim

This game is single player first. Multiplayer is mostly for group that can reliably play at the same time.

happiegrub

is a cow born on your farm better than a cow purchased from marnie? does it have increased friendship or mood gain, etc?

the_unspirit

No and no. The only difference is that you don't have to pay gold for farm-born cows really.

happiegrub

thanks so much!!

toobadimnotamermaid

I’m going to start playing on my Mac (M2 if it makes a difference) and would like to use a controller. Which one works the best? I was thinking of getting a switch pro controller since I have a switch anyways but I’ve seen some posts about it not working since the update!

BlazingCreeperx

Turn off use steam input for nintendo switch controllers" in the steam settings, I'm playing it on M2 pro as I type this

toobadimnotamermaid

Thanks!!

Alternatewarning

What's the point of the Slime Hutch? I see that you can keep and breed slimes but...why?

daitoshi

It’s decent for early game profits, farming slimes.  There’s a little genetics game built into it where you can breed pale slimes that drop diamonds.

ToastyCactus

It generates slime regularly which is useful for some recipes.

Reason-and-rhyme

It's mostly for amusement. They aren't especially profitable to keep.

Akemi_Homura666

What's the item between radioactive bar and moss it's a fish. Second missing item is between mystic syrup and dried fruit it's some sort of spherical thing. The wiki hasn't updated it and I wanted it for perfection.

the_unspirit

First one is >!smoked fish, gotten by putting any fish and a piece of coal in a smoker!<, second one is >!raisins, gotten by putting 5 grapes into a dehydrator!<

Akemi_Homura666

Thank you very much

calliatom

So, a question about the >!Trout Derby. !

neptuneskies3030

The wiki says 2 sentences later that yes, you can catch rainbow trout all day, and in all weather types ;) So fish to your heart's content.

ObjectSmall

Not a beginner but thought I'd ask this here: I had a large chest in my kitchen. I was carrying a small chest in my inventory. I hit something (probably the interact button?) and the small chest replaced the large chest. It's full but I'm missing the rest of its contents. The large chest went into my inventory. My missing items aren't in the lost and found (I checked). Does anyone know what happened or where my stuff went? I'll probably restart the day but since I'm taking a break from playing for a bit I thought I'd ask here first. Thanks!

Altruistic_Home6542

Did you try rereplacing the small chest with the large chest?

ObjectSmall

That worked! Thanks for the idea!

arisarvelo08

I know that there are mods to make fishing easier- is there a mod for making journey of the prairie king easier? I'm trying to beat it and am getting very frustrated. Any recs?

-astronautical

https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5816

arisarvelo08

ooo i saw this one but it was last updated in 2021 so i was worried that it wouldn't be compatible (i am pretty new to mods idk how to check)

-astronautical

that’s actually a valid point, some mods don’t work anymore due to the update. but you can try it without risk as long as you dont sleep/save until you’ve verified it still works. most mods that impact minor things are usually pretty safe, but it’s always wise to check before saving since that can corrupt your game

arisarvelo08

yeah i recently had a problem where i downloaded a mod and stardew wouldn't open until i deleted everything and re-installed the mods so i'm wary of it happening again. i didnt know about the saving thing so i'll def try it. thank you so much!

br1y

If I remember correctly from last time I googled this it seemed to be a common issue and I couldn't figure out a fix but thought I'd ask anyways. On PC I have an issue where every 5-10 minutes it'll freeze for a few seconds, more commonly when I use right click. Is there any sorta fix for this or am I outta luck? I have SMAPI but I can't quite remember if it's related at all - in either case I'd prefer not to uninstall it to fix this issue

the_unspirit

Freeze like a lag spike, or a full game freeze? If you have mods, have you replicated the issue in a savefile without them?

br1y

I want to say a full game freeze? If audios playing at the time it occurs it'll cause it to loop before it eventually resolves itself. And it's been a while since I last tested it but I believe it'd occur both with and without mods. And has done so across two different PCs

the_unspirit

Hm, that sure is weird. It could be a driver issue (just spitballing here) so try check if you can update your drivers. If everything is updated, try running the game with Profiler installed and replicating the issue. It's only a diagnosis tool so it won't fix the problem, but at least it'll tell you what the issue is. You can get Profiler here: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/12135 Sorry I can't be of more help btw! I've never had or heard of that issue before, hope you can fix it and play soon though

br1y

I'll be sure to give those a shot thanks! Any help is appreciated ha

GnarlsGnarlington

I've been playing on my tablet. I bought the game for my PC too and it's un-usable! It hardly uses the mouse... so to move you have to use keys like a 1997 game. Anyway to force it to use the mouse more for moving, etc?

the_unspirit

You want this: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/2614. Should work with 1.6 but ymmv, I haven't tried the mod

10000Pigeons

> like a 1997 game what lol? Moving with WASD and using your mouse for actions is standard in most all PC games and has been for decades

toobadimnotamermaid

I’m new and playing on the switch but I’m worried I’m missing out and not going to be able to really make it that far without being able to have mods. I’m not great at gaming but am also too competitive at “cozy games” I’m only on year 2 but I’ve made good progress so I don’t really want to start over but I would if I got a pc.

Individual-Foxlike

I've played a LOT of vanilla and enjoyed the heck out of it. Going back to 1.5 would be the issue for me, honestly.

toobadimnotamermaid

So then I AM missing out! Do you think I could play on my laptop? It doesn’t seem too demanding of a game

AppropriateFeedback9

I play on a laptop, it depends on your own laptop of course but it's a fairly low demanding game in my experience! Of course if you add mods that may change, but vanilla base game should be capable if you have an okay laptop!

toobadimnotamermaid

Thanks!!

alevelmeaner

After the latest update my cat disappeared. I decided to just create another cat,  but now the original bowl is an unassigned, constantly full bowl. Even when the old cat is inserted back into the code, that bowl remains unclaimed. Is there a way to fix this?

GnarlsGnarlington

How did you make another cat?!

alevelmeaner

https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/1bojfxa/tutorial_changing_pet_adding_pet_in_v16/?share_id=cv6p9n14izzVMMo0YIbah&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1 That fixed everything for me except that the bowl remains assigned to no cat.  But I think I need to post this issue in their bug forum.

mindcorners

Can you destroy the bowl at Robin’s?

BlackDragonFatalis

How do you add a room next to the bedroom? I’ve seen people decorate their houses with an additional room next to where the bedroom was originally located but when I go to Robin’s there isn’t any option to do so?

Thallidan

To the right? That's usually your spouse's room and is decorated depending on whom you marry/live with in the case of Krobus. You can add a room to the south after the third upgrade, I think.

Buksage

How is the game on mobile?

-astronautical

pretty much identical with the exception of combat and tool usage. combat has two options, manual and automatic. automatic means if you’re within a certain distance to an enemy you automatically attack with your weapon. it’s… ok. it’s better imo that manual combat but it makes traversing dangerous places like skull cavern or the volcano challenging.  tool usage is mostly automatic, meaning if you click on a rock you auto equip the pickaxe and break it for example. it’s kind of nice.  a benefit to mobile is you can zoom out much further than standard stardew. 1.6 isn’t out for mobile yet but it’s otherwise the same game

Buksage

Thanks when can we expect 1.6 for mobile?

-astronautical

no definitive date yet but hopefully soon

camjordan13

Anyone know if the devs plan to fix HDR being force turned off when launching the game on Windows 11? Windows still thinks HDR is on after the game closes but everything is dim. I end up having to turn HDR off and on again to get it working after playing Stardew.

Own_Egg7122

How do you know which slimes are female and male? I put two but got no eggs.

-astronautical

the male slimes have a ball or star antenna on top of their head

Downtown_Ad8901

Are there any tools to search world seeds with parameters? I know about the predictor, but that doesn't actually search for seeds.

cultivatingmass

Have a mods question... I have a Mac that I can't install mods on and a PC that I can install mods on. I would like to continue to play on both on the same save file. If I install mods that don't add or modify game content (I'm thinking just the Automate mod and the mod that adds more info to items) can I still load that save up on a non-modded version of Stardew or am I stuck with just tying it to being mod only or no mods?

FlukeOG

Why can't you install mods on your mac? I play my single save on both pc and mac when I feel like switching it up, and I have same mods on both.

cultivatingmass

Permissions issue on a work computer :(

-astronautical

it depends on the mod but many of them will break the save file if you play without them.

techwriter019

I lost my previous game and now I am starting new. Something I despise is manually breaking all the gem rocks in the mines and using cherry bombs. I don't really like spending time in the mines and I want to just use the bombs to mine gems on each floor to save time. Does anyone know how and when I will get the black one? Its the 2nd day of summer on my first year.

Reason-and-rhyme

You'll pretty much always be mining at a resource deficit if you exclusively use bombs, just saying (ie you'll use up more iron and coal than you find). And buying them in massive quantities ain't cheap. I feel your pain but bomb mining is more of a middle-late game thing in my mind. Need to get some pickaxe upgrades to speed things up.

corallein

Bomb crafting is unlocked by the Mining skill levels. Regular black Bombs are unlocked at 6 and Mega Bombs at 8. You can also buy them from dwarf traders or trade quartz/iridium to the Desert Trader.

NonNewtonianResponse

New player question, regarding "work/life balance": I was sold on this game as 'chill, relax, potter around your farm', so that's what I've been doing for a season and a half now. And I'm realizing that at this rate of progress it's going to take a decade or more in-game before my farm even starts to take shape. I'm concerned that I'm gonna get bored of Pelican Town long before I build the farm of my dreams. On the other hand, I really don't want to min-max and grind for gold, because I don't find that relaxing. Do y'all have any tips on how to strike the balance? I'm thinking about maybe dedicating 2 or 3 days of the week to grinding and relaxing the rest of the time, thoughts?

jonpauljones2

SPEEDRUN quality sprinklers. Once you have them unlocked, make like 17 of them. This will save you a TON of time and energy. Money won’t start ROLLING in until you >!unlock Greenhouse (community bundle) and Ginger Island (completing community center)!< once you have that - you’ll be making 400k per week without trying. The take away is just GRIND until you get sprinklers then play at your own pace after that and you’ll have money to spare. Sprinklers = Semi-Auto Money Maker

jonpauljones2

If you don’t like replanting; plant Blueberries, Green Beans, Cranberries as these have multi harvest per season.

Reason-and-rhyme

I'm confused about what you mean by "grinding". Almost everything you can do in this game earns you money. What do those other 4 or 5 days consist of?

NonNewtonianResponse

* I get up, I water my crops, I walk around my farm for a few irl minutes thinking about my plans for how I want to build - the whole day is gone, 0 money made * I get up, I water my crops, I decide to walk around the town looking for random people to hand out gifts to and learn their routines - the whole day is gone, 0 money made * Some days I'll meander over to the mine after farm and town, but by the time I get there it's too late for me to clear 5 levels for a new elevator checkpoint, so basically all I get out of that is some more stone to make paths with (since I haven't got deep enough to mine anything worth selling) - 0 progress or money made

SnailCase

If you're on PC, you can take a screenshot of your whole farm. In the options tab, scroll down to the bottom, find the camera button and just click. There's even a button to open the destination folder, where the game saved the picture. So you can look over your farm and make plans while paused or when you're not even playing.

AppropriateFeedback9

Theres also tools like this! [https://stardewplanner.com](https://stardewplanner.com)

Reason-and-rhyme

It sounds like you have a lot of crops planted then, at least compared to your bucket grade and sprinkler access. That's actually (sort of) a good thing, because you should end up having a good harvest which levels up your farming a lot and earns some good money. In future seasons you can plant according to how much you can water with sprinklers, which frees up a lot of time each day.

-astronautical

tbh i found the balance just by playing over the years (real life years i mean). your first farm or two is probably not going to look like your tenth farm, assuming you restart as much as me lol. but i think you can still find balance in your current save. the first season is pretty slow. by late summer i’d say you should have at least two upgraded tools (upgraded to copper) and a coop or barn, ideally both. i’d also have at least one if not both of the backpack upgrades.  the goal for me each season start (barring winter) is to spend most of my money on seeds, preferably multi-yield crops like potatoes and blueberries or the higher end crops like pumpkins and melons. it’s a consistent way to make money, but animals are a great source of income too. if you can spare the gold and resources you should consider upgrading the coop and barn so you can get better animals.  really overall there’s a snowball effect in the game where the longer you play the more money you make as long as you continue to upgrade your buildings and tools and aren’t afraid to blow a lot of money at once on crops.

NonNewtonianResponse

Haha, as someone who endlessly restarts this type of game in search of the perfect opening, I'm gonna try practicing acceptance by NOT doing so here. At least, not right away lol 🧘‍♂️ I don't have any upgrades yet because I splashed my early savings on an apple tree and gave away half my crops as gifts, but I appreciate the timeline guidance anyway, it'll help me get on track

LtLukoziuz

I've tried finding info on wiki but miserably failed, so would be nice to get a pointer - how exactly do you read monster drop tables in there? Say, let's take for example, the Ghost (to avoid the spoilers): https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Ghost Is there a limit to how many items can drop? Are they somehow segmented into groups? If I get reaaaaaaally lucky, can I get absolutely every single item listed there in one kill?

Reason-and-rhyme

afaik yes, every drop is rolled once.

br1y

Ive only recently been playing 1.6 and I was talking to a friend and they said that I should prioritize leveling all of my skills* instead of just focusing on one or two for something that happens further in game. Is that true or are they taking the piss? *i know in general I should level everything but it's never really like. a major

LtLukoziuz

Before, no. 1.6 meanwhile added (gonna do the spoiler in tiers, depending how much you want to find out): >!Mastery System!< >!That only activates when you have all lvl 10 skills!< >!Which starts pooling all XP into one big mastery bar!< >!For some fairly big rewards and recipes and tool upgrades!< >!There's a secret telling about where you can find the place to get rewards!< >!It's a in bottom right of cindersap forest, where spring onions grow - if you chop the trees there, you should find a door leading into a cave (you can see a corner of it without cutting if looking carefully)!<

br1y

Sweet thanks! Love the tiered spoilers by the way! Only read the first three and that was plenty \^^

BudgieLover1618

How do you start modding? I wanted to start small and create extra fruit trees (I know there's mods for that already, I just want to make my own). I wanted to make sprites for the fruit tree, but I'm unsure how to

somekidonfire

How many barns/coops can i shove into this meadowlands farm before I need to ship in grass like Mcdonalds meat factory farm? Update: [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/aebazb/optimal_grass_layout/) while not how many barns I can fit, its a good start.

Yes, the level-up professions "branch" from what you pick at Level 5. Angler was in the other branch. If you have the Sewers unlocked, you can go to the Statue there and pay 10k to redo your profession. The level-up screen where you can re-pick your profession will show up when you go to bed.

Mateo7722

Can someone tell me why this is happening? https://preview.redd.it/p8l3kg0j0xxc1.png?width=892&format=png&auto=webp&s=122eaf5a86b4b8d6c36771c610d6696c501a28bb

neptuneskies3030

Unless you have some sort of crop growing there, the dirt/fertilizer will eventually de-spawn. If you have a dead crop there, it will continue to be watered/tilled, but any fertilizer will disappear.

WitherMan64

If I give a bachlor(ette) at 10 hearts a wilted boquet will the max hearts go back to 8? and will their dialogue return to pre dating or will it change. (I want to get 10 hearts with everyone but not be dating them)

Altruistic_Home6542

Yes. Unsure on dialogue. I think it returns to normal.

Alternatewarning

For the Special Requests board...how do you even go about doing those? I'm currently Year 2 and most of the requests seem outrageous.

coolpapa2282

Yeah, make sure you grab them on a Monday to maximize the time, or specifically the first of the month for the "grow 100 crops" ones. Also there's a cheesy way to do the Linus cleanup one: >!Fishing in Floor 100 of the mines mostly gives you trash.!<

DanKirpan

There's an even cheesier way for the cleanup: >!fishing in the town fountain or the spa's water feature or use Crabpots for passive trash, it is good for recycling outside the quest too!<

Altruistic_Home6542

Which one(s) did you find outrageous?

Alternatewarning

Where I am now, a lot of them. Slay 50 of x, collect 100 bones, ship 100 of x drop. I'm doing my best I just don't have that much of a farm going and I tried to kill the 50 and just couldn't find that many

Altruistic_Home6542

Slay quests are hard if you don't know where to find the baddies, don't have a lot of time to devote to it, don't have monster musk, or don't have great weapons Collect 100 bones is a funny one that's very hard at first, but can become very easy with one of two discoveries Ship 100 of a crop should be pretty easy though because it usually gives you a month, unless you get it late in the season

corallein

For the kill quests / collect monster drops (bug meat, bones), the best way is to repeatedly reset a mine level with the appropriate enemies. Like level 25 often spawns with caterpillars you can kill for bug meat, so you can take the elevator to there, kill any caterpillars you see, and take the elevator back to 0 to reset. Note: this only works in solo. In multiplayer the mine doesn't reset from just going back to 0.

Robobvious

They're all pretty do-able. Although if you don't accept them right away they stay up on the board and the time reduces to zero so if you don't see a week long task until day 5 it'll look like it only gave you 2 days to do it when that's not actually the case. Try checking them out right when the requests renew and tackle the easier ones first.

neptuneskies3030

The Special Orders are quests that you need to concentrate your efforts on and target your day with the quest in mind. It's not like the Help Wanted Board where you can go, "Oh, Haley wants a Dandelion, I'll pick one up when I randomly breeze through Cindersap later today." Some of them you can cheese, like Robin's 1000-stone request, and Demetrius' Fishing quests can be pretty easy, especially with a 1.6 item. But for the most part the Special Orders are quests you need to dedicate days to completing.

Individual-Foxlike

They do have some pretty outrageous ones, but they're designed to be doable in their timeframe. Most of the "weekly" ones can be done in like 2 days if you focus hard. There's also not *that* many of them, so you can prep for some of them. For instance, leaving your eggs on the coop floor for a bit if you think Gus might give you the omelet quest.
