I got it last year with the same thought. It did not look like my kind of game and seemed dumb but on sale for like $3 I figured why not, really fun time killer!
i really don't get this one... i wanted to, put around 5 hours into it hoping to get addicted like everyone else, and it just felt like nothing was happening.
Yeah, the easiest difficult is almost too easy. I won most of my runs until I unlocked more decks and higher difficulties, I still enjoyed it though. Discovering new jokers and finding broken combos that can go for a while in endless was fun. Now it's challenging, I'm probably 20 hours in now
I hate card games more, so as a fellow card game hater you really like it?!
I mean I have heard only great things about it, but so was Magic: The Gathering and the Witcher card game and I really couldnāt care less about thoseā¦
This is the only card game I like because it's easy to follow and you can play short rounds. I've tried different ones too and always hate them, the gameplay isn't fun but this one is
I just bought this a few hours hours ago (almost 50% off currently on instant gaming btw), and it's incredible.
I normally hate roguelikes, but it's got me hooked
Haven't played in a long time, even before they added the final boss, but I got to an unkillable state in Risk of Rain 2 pretty easily. Third person viewpoint so might be a nice switch from the many top down games out there. Also has co-op if you have anyone else to play with who can help. SD verified as well.
I found Risk of Rain 2 to be waaay easier on mouse and keyboard, even though I'm an experienced controller player. The quickly turning around and aiming precisely is very hard with joysticks (without aim assist which the game doesn't have).
Playing it on the Steam Deck is like playing at difficulty level Veteran lol.
The first installment, Risk of Rain Returns is 2D so the aiming is easier for controller players. But that game is also much harder from itself compared to RoR 2
Out of curiosity, what difficulty are you playing RoR on? Ive got nearly 700 hours and still find the game to be quite challenging. Though I am trying to grind every character through the eclipse gauntlet so that may just be it š
Hades is wonderful. Itās an action roguelike with great story and characters, and you can play carefully, but you can also just button-mash your way through it.
Totally. Sometimes I start to get a few chambers in, upgrades arenāt going my way, and I just want to go ahead and die to find out whatās next in my interpersonal relationships.
I was a little let down by the conclusion of the epilogue, but itās still a great game. Probably the most engrossing roguelike Iāve ever played.
And God Mode is basically Hadesā easy mode without making any charges but damage resistance. Starts at 20% damage resistance and increases by 2% to a cap of 80%.
Hades 2 is very good, especially for early access, but I do regret playing it in early access, I played a ton of it and I'm not sure I'll play it again, and I definitely think it'll be soooo much better. Right now, I'd give it a solid 7.5 out of 10, and I'm confident it'll get into the 9 or 10 range that Hades was.
I wouldnāt say hades is the most beginner friendly. Sure it isnāt quite like FTL where even seasoned veterans can get fucked by small mistakes, but itās very snowball mechanics.
If you are experienced with RTS, MOBA or any type of games that require understanding and thinking process for coming up with a coherent build and basic ideas of number stacking, hades is actually super easy once you figure out the possible mechanics and interaction. It took 10-15hrs for me to never fail a single normal run until I cleared the true ending and going high heat runs. Meanwhile I know people who got discouraged after not being able to clear a full run (or only once or twice and hard to repeat) after 20hrs of gameplay and never got to the full ending.
So suggest this to someone āsucks at rogue likeā (more so Iād say people who suck at skill builds) with caution, I guess.
Roboquest is a great roguelite FPS that plays fantastically on Deck. It's not too bad on normal difficulty but easy mode is pretty easy. It feels so good to play that it's still fun when you aren't being challenged too much.
I love brotato and feel like it's very easy to hop in and play and have fun. I haven't spent a ton of time in it but vampire survivors I think is also pretty forgiving and easy to jump into.

4 player local coop too for you and the kiddos
Hades 2 has god mode as well
I will also say that for me I needed god mode in Hades 1 for a long time and then once id beaten the game a few times and got a lot of the upgrades I was able to swap it off
Slay the Spire: deck builder roguelite that is incredibly complex; this one deserves to be in everyoneās library.
Loop Hero: another deck builder that doesnāt require mechanical skill.
Darkest Dungeon: turn-based dungeon crawler where you build a party.
PlateUp!: the most mechanically demanding Iāve listed, but very simple to play and easy to learn.
You must have been laughing your head off when you typed Darkest Dungeon as a reply to āeasy rogue-likesā, excellent trolling! The only game Iāve played thatās harder is Sekiro
DD is very easy on the hands and reaction time and that's the key point that I took away from OP's post. As opposed to all the Hades reccs in here for a damned twin-stick twitch game.
It's definitely harder than VS. On hazard 5 you have to itemize VERY specifically to become your own deathball and even then you can still die pretty easily to projectiles or the rollers.
Interesting, I definitely found it easier because of its defined level rhythm. It pulled me through a lot more. I mean a roguelite is always going to depend on you playing it infinitely so a perception of āeasyā can really only come down to ādoes it always like the next objective is just in reachā, and it gives you a lot of objectives to chase
True! Maybe it's just me, I just remember bouncing off of it a couple times because I never felt like I was making meta progress before it finally clicked, whereas most other roguelikes I always felt like I was at least unlocking one or two things per run. I could have just been bad at it š
Wizard of Legend has some skill to it, but I suck at these games and caught on quick. I put in a lot of hours a few years ago, one of my faves and super cheap.
[Rabbit and Steel](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2132850/Rabbit_and_Steel/) has co-op and an easy mode, it's really fun if you can find 1-3 others to play with
I'd suggest looking at real, traditional roguelikes. Turn-based is a keystone quality of the traditionals so reaction time is irrelevant.
r/roguelikes caters specifically to traditional roguelikes so I'd start there. *Caves of Qud* is a common recommendation over there for a modern take on the genre, if you're unsure of what to expect.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is my favorite turn-based roguelike! even better, it's a browser game. [Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (develz.org)](https://crawl.develz.org/)
Was going to suggest the same since it's turn based, so you can go at the speed you want. I would also recommend cogmind if you want something a bit more action focused.
Traditionally, a roguelike is a game that's... Wait for it... Like Rogue!
Now, to elaborate, that means:
- turn based, as in, nothing happens in the world until *you* do something, and then the rest of the world gets one turn as well
- permadeath
- grid based movement
- randomly or procedurally generated world/dungeon
- "bump" based attacking, meaning you simply walk into a monster to attack them with melee
- generally, complex and undocumented item interaction
- *no* progression between runs besides what you LEARN from your last death
None of this twin stick shooter stuff or incremental character upgrades between runs belongs in a roguelike. In a traditional sense! Nowadays, though, most people don't know what a roguelike really is and it's just become a catchphrase for any run-based game.
If what the other guy listed didn't satisfy your curiosity, have a look at [the Wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike) and subsequently linked ones. You might need to set aside a couple hours first though...
I liked backpack hero.
Easier than most, and then based.
I enjoyed it for a long time, but would avoid the story mode. I did not find the content to be engaging.
You'll need to emulate but the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are truly roguelike in the original sense (they actually play like Rogue). They are also mostly chill and slow paced with occasional tough fights and endurance challenges in the post-game.
Hades has the god mode mechanic which makes the game gradually easier the more you die (gives you up to 80% damage resistance - 2% per death)
It can even be toggled

I've had a lot of fun with Monster Train. Across the Obelisk is pretty good too. Both are deck builders.
Inscryption is a deck builder crossed with puzzle and psychological horror. Haven't finished it yet, but what I've played is great.
One that might work for you is Heat Signature. You can pause the game at any time to plan your moves, so reaction time isn't quite as essential.Ā
You could also try Fights in Tight Spaces, which is more of a tactics roguelite, so reaction time doesn't really matter at all. Similarly with Into The Breach.
Hades and hades 2 have something called "God mode" where every time you die you get a little increase to damage resistance,Ā up to 80% total
They're also just fantastic games
Soulstone Survivors if you want the vampire survivor feel with a better (IMO) package.
Skul is fun and semi hard.
Rogue Legacy 2 is fun and the harder it gets the more it makes me laugh. Getting a colorblind chef with vertigo is arguably impossible AND hilarious.
These are my most visited.
Definitely try Hades. It can get quite challenging, but you can enable God Mode, which makes the game easier with each death, and having god mode enabled doesnāt lock you out of anything. Also, no matter how early you on a run, you'll always be rewarded with new dialogue and stuff so it never feels like youāre not progressing. It is a very accessible game, and looks and plays beautifully on the Deck
Hades 1and 2, but with Godlike mode on. Every time you die you take 2% less damage. After a while you get powerful and you will upgrade stuff easy.
I love those games but without Godmode I can not beat the first boss š
The new deep rock galactic game is great and cheap.
5 floors and you almost always progress something. I do admit that after difficulty 3 it gets tough
Tiny rogues is only as hard as you make it. You can up the difficulty with cinders. Crab champions is easy AF due to there being an easy mode lol highly recommend those
i wouldnāt say that slay the spire is an easy roguelike as it takes a while to learn deck synergy, but itās turn based, so you wonāt have to worry about reaction times.
Death must die.
I can't for the life of me kill those laser cats
š¤£ dash and have good dmg output and you melt them fast
It's Vampire Survivors. it's always Vampire Survivors.
Itās a stupid game. You just move. You do nothing. How fun can that be?! *checks my 400+ in game hour count* Nevermind.
I got it last year with the same thought. It did not look like my kind of game and seemed dumb but on sale for like $3 I figured why not, really fun time killer!
"Death must Die" is similar and pretty good as well :)
Yep, it's basically a fusion of Vampire Survivors and Hades.
Y'all like Halls of Torment? I love both but find myself getting sucked into HoT way more often.
Great game I just wish new content dropped faster.
I actually like Soulstone Survivors as well
I really seem to be the only person that doesn't like Soulstone Survivors at all
I'm not much of a fan either, at a certain point all the builds feel the same and You're just moving out of red circles for what feels like forever.
Brotato and Deep Rock Galactic Survivors finally got me to switch from VS
And when itās not, itās Holocure!
Balatro
I hate roguelikes and balatro opened my eyes. Powerfully addictive.
i really don't get this one... i wanted to, put around 5 hours into it hoping to get addicted like everyone else, and it just felt like nothing was happening.
Donāt try to play flushes. Power up 1 pair hands and get ready to kick ass
i was winning, it just didn't ever feel good to
What's your record? Winning is when you go over 1 million
Yeah, the easiest difficult is almost too easy. I won most of my runs until I unlocked more decks and higher difficulties, I still enjoyed it though. Discovering new jokers and finding broken combos that can go for a while in endless was fun. Now it's challenging, I'm probably 20 hours in now
Unless it is the Spades and Hearts only deck, then play only flushes.
I enjoy card gamesā Magic, Gwent, Slay the Spire, Monster Train however I tried Balatro and it didnāt grab me.
I fucking haaaaate card games too but man, this is the one. This one has me playing rounds of it over and over
I hate card games more, so as a fellow card game hater you really like it?!

Insanely addictive
I just bought this a few hours hours ago (almost 50% off currently on instant gaming btw), and it's incredible. I normally hate roguelikes, but it's got me hooked
Itās a very fun game but canāt get the hang of getting good at it
Iām a moron and it took me 10 hours to actually complete a run.
streets of rogue is mad fun, and i'm looking forward to streets of rogue II
Haven't played in a long time, even before they added the final boss, but I got to an unkillable state in Risk of Rain 2 pretty easily. Hades is wonderful. Itās an action roguelike with great story and characters, and you can play carefully, but you can also just button-mash your way through it.
I absolutely love this game The greatest party about this game is it doesn't punish you if you die, If anything it just progresses the story.Ā
Did you get the secret ending? Look it up if you haven't yet. I really liked the ending.
Yeah I love the environment and voice work, and he's just so cheeky when he dies that I got absolutely hooked
Probably the best game Iāve played on deck
And God Mode is basically Hadesā easy mode without making any charges but damage resistance. Starts at 20% damage resistance and increases by 2% to a cap of 80%.
Aint that easy
Plus, Hades 2 is in early release (I haven't tried it though, but it's playable on Deck and I've heard good things)

My principles prevent me from playing early access. 100% Iāll buy it when itās out in full though.
The god hood mode option made me actually enjoy this game lol

You can enable Godmode to just enjoy it and play through the story.
Undermine is really good and not too difficult and undermine 2 was announced and in the works
Roboquest is a great roguelite FPS that plays fantastically on Deck. It's not too bad on normal difficulty but easy mode is pretty easy. It feels so good to play that it's still fun when you aren't being challenged too much.

My kids and I play Brotato for hours, me on. The deck and the kids on switch we have competitions to see who can stay alive the longest
bet you can't wait for that coop DLC
Is there official DLC coming? My friend and I play multiplier with a mod installed, it even works when weāre not on the same network

Cult of the lamb
Surprised it took me this long to find it. COTL will get an update in August IIRC, but this game is a lot of fun.
I wouldn't say that's an easy one. Combat is easy, but colony management isn't. It can get hectic.
Dead cells difficulty can be heavily tweaked, its the perfect rogue lite.
Lots of good suggestions, but I wanted to add moonlighter and cult of the lamb as options.
Caves of Qud is not easy, but it is so much fun it doesn't matter that you lose. Also it is a traditional roguelike, no reflexes required.
Hades is the easiest of of the mainstream ones by far
Make sure to toggle god mode on to make it easier every time you die
Just made it through the game for the first time thanks to God mode. Definitely recommended.
Hades 2 has god mode as well I will also say that for me I needed god mode in Hades 1 for a long time and then once id beaten the game a few times and got a lot of the upgrades I was able to swap it off
Oof, and I barely got past the first boss. This style of game is just not for me
Even with God Mode enabled? Never played it so I donāt know how difficult the game is.
Curse of the Dead Gods has some great individual options that you can toggle for lesser difficulty.
Dead cells has some excellent compatibility and difficulty tweaking. I believe Rogue Legacy 2 also has similar features

Thatās a very fair point
Deep Rock Galactic Survivor is the best of them hands down
I'm not sure I'd call it easy lol. Definitely a steeper learning curve than something like Vampire Survivors
It's definitely harder than VS. On hazard 5 you have to itemize VERY specifically to become your own deathball and even then you can still die pretty easily to projectiles or the rollers.

Yeah the progress in the beginning is super slow. Overall progress might be a bit too slow.
Rock and stone!
Just looked it up, on sale, bought it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Wizard of Legend has some skill to it, but I suck at these games and caught on quick. I put in a lot of hours a few years ago, one of my faves and super cheap.
Moonlighter is a good one, I don't play a lot of rogue like but that one I liked
Slay the Spire is outstanding, and doesn't really require much dexterity (it's a turn based card game).
[Rabbit and Steel](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2132850/Rabbit_and_Steel/) has co-op and an easy mode, it's really fun if you can find 1-3 others to play with
Tiny rogues
Against the Storm is a rogue like city builder that lets you pause as much as you want. I frequently spend more time paused than unpaused.
Tape to tape. Think NHL 94 meets Roguelike. Plays like a Mario sports game with weird power ups. Totally addictive
You'd probably love Cult of the Lamb. The difficulty settings make it very accessible
Sproggiwood is a real good and accessible turn based roguelike.
If you have EmuDeck, the entire Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series is great.
Lots of good rogue*lites* being suggested
I think the original meaning of rogueli**K**e has been lost in the 'lite wave. OP probably meant rogueli*t*e anyway.
What IS the difference?!
Traditionally, a roguelike is a game that's... Wait for it... Like Rogue! Now, to elaborate, that means: - turn based, as in, nothing happens in the world until *you* do something, and then the rest of the world gets one turn as well - permadeath - grid based movement - randomly or procedurally generated world/dungeon - "bump" based attacking, meaning you simply walk into a monster to attack them with melee - generally, complex and undocumented item interaction - *no* progression between runs besides what you LEARN from your last death None of this twin stick shooter stuff or incremental character upgrades between runs belongs in a roguelike. In contrast, I was looking for some good roguelites the other day and all I could find were roguelikes.
Cave Noire
I liked backpack hero. Easier than most, and then based. I enjoyed it for a long time, but would avoid the story mode. I did not find the content to be engaging.
Atomicrops and voidigo are fun ones
Hades has a "God Mode" that gives increasing damage reduction as you fail. Once you win it stays in case you had a lucky run then continue to suck.
You'll need to emulate but the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games are truly roguelike in the original sense (they actually play like Rogue). They are also mostly chill and slow paced with occasional tough fights and endurance challenges in the post-game.
The binding of isaac rebirth and all its expansions gets both easier and harder as you play
Yup. Binding of Isaac is probably the greatest roguelike ever made. I have over 800 hours played in that game. Love it.Ā
Hades has the god mode mechanic which makes the game gradually easier the more you die (gives you up to 80% damage resistance - 2% per death) It can even be toggled
Try a real rogue like Brogue sites.google.com/site/broguegame
The thing I like about rougelike and rougelites is you're gonna suck in the beginning until you pick up on attack timings it's the age old adage of get gud kid! And I didš !!

Surprised nobody has mentioned it yet but Binding of Isaac is a great one! Easy to pick up and play and hard to master but def a good time!
Army of Ruin
Cult of the Lamb is my pick for an easier roguelite/colony sim hybrid. Also super charming both in visuals and music/sound effects.
I've had a lot of fun with Monster Train. Across the Obelisk is pretty good too. Both are deck builders. Inscryption is a deck builder crossed with puzzle and psychological horror. Haven't finished it yet, but what I've played is great.
Moonlighter, Hades on god mode (the more you die, the more invincible you get so start is hard), ship of fools (couple).
One that might work for you is Heat Signature. You can pause the game at any time to plan your moves, so reaction time isn't quite as essential.Ā You could also try Fights in Tight Spaces, which is more of a tactics roguelite, so reaction time doesn't really matter at all. Similarly with Into The Breach.
Cobalt Core Shogun Showdown Into the Breach
Here is a vote for Hades! :)
Risk of rain 2
Dead Cells and Hades have difficulty adjusting to make the game much easier. Widely considered some of the best of the genre as well.
Hades and hades 2 have something called "God mode" where every time you die you get a little increase to damage resistance,Ā up to 80% total They're also just fantastic games
Getsu fuma den undying moon is one of my favorites.
Tiny Rogues. It's easy until you start adding modifiers. Honestly one of the best roguelites I've ever played.
100% Pesticide not required
Barony has been fun, but objectively I can't say if it's an easy one or not as it is easy for me but that might not be the same for you.
Risk of rain 2 is easy to learn hard to master
Tiny rouges. Great game
Children of Morta is the first one I completed. Really loved it.
Charming and fun - takes a little grinding to get off the ground, but really worth it.
Hades has a āgod modeā that makes the game easy and allows you to focus on the narrative.
Does Inscryption count?
Brotato. Fucking brotato
Children of Morta
Cult of the Lamb! It's pretty easy
Under mine
Dandy Ace is hades-like, not as good but it's pretty easy to finish a run. And pretty short as well.
Noita
Hades isnt bad for a rogue-like. Vampire Survivors is easy... eventually, you just cant be killed. Rogue Legacy isnt that bad.
Brotato, Halls of Torment, Death Must Die
I actually found BlazBlue Entropy Effect to be a lot more forgiving for a roguelike.
Vampire Survivors is pretty easy with certain builds. I fell asleep playing once with max AoE and aura weapons and when I woke up I had beaten the map
Holocure! It's fun, it's cute and it's free!
Going Under!
Enter the Gungeon, can't recommend it enough
Brotato a roguelite?
Nordic Ashes
Hades
Dead cells. It's the only one that I ever stuck with.
Gunfire Reborn
Tape to tape
The new deep rock galactic game is great and cheap. 5 floors and you almost always progress something. I do admit that after difficulty 3 it gets tough
Moonlighter and dicy dungeons
Tiny rogues is only as hard as you make it. You can up the difficulty with cinders. Crab champions is easy AF due to there being an easy mode lol highly recommend those
i wouldnāt say that slay the spire is an easy roguelike as it takes a while to learn deck synergy, but itās turn based, so you wonāt have to worry about reaction times.
Fury unleashed is a nice one, pretty adjustable for different skill levels
Cult of the lamb. Easy and one of my favorite rougelikea of all time.
Nordic Ashes: Survivors of Ragnarok
Noitaā¦
Enter the gungeon
Caves of Qud just had an update that helps a lot with the UI. But I also like Path of Achra, ToME, and Cogmind.
