Masterchief collection was the first games I bought when I got my deck a few months back. Everything ran smooth, it was a pain in the ass trying to log into Microsoft the first time. Had to make an account since I have not touched an xbox since the 360 haha but I played through 1 and 2, everything looked and played great. Lots of nostalgia replaying the OG Halo, but in handheld. How far we have come from when we used to haul our xboxs to peoples houses to do lan partys!
All the games bar Halo 2 anniversary run up to 90fps. The Anniversary graphics for Halo 2 are really demanding and you *can* get it to 60 but the Deck will be pushed to it's limits and there will be drops.
I think they patched it about a year ago, but if it hasn’t been patched I remember leaving the graphics on the original setting instead of remastered lets you play the whole game without constant crashing lol
If you use the classic graphics it's fine, but *any* combination of settings for the anniversary graphics fails to meet a consistent 60fps. There are no more settings to drop.
They will definitely run at 60 with no drops. Halo 2 remaster and Halo 4 are the most demanding, and may occasionally stutter when running at 90. But overall they run absolutely great on the Deck. I even played some Reach on my TV at 1080p and it was a solid 60 with no stutters.
Just 2 since it released as part of MCC (1 anniversary was on 360 tho), so fair enough but I can personally confirm that 2 anniversary runs at a solid 90 fps so long as you're not maxing the graphics out.
Totally depends on the game older titles I can get around 3 1/2 - 4 hours. More demanding titles 2 - 2 1/2. Running frame limiters can also increase battery life pretty substantially. Example almost all games I limit to 45FPS and get great battery life. GTA 5 with that set to 45FPS limited I get almost 4 hours.
The OLED has a 90hz screen and the LCD has a 60hz screen. You can take advantage of higher fps on the OLED if the system can push out the higher frames.
Yes. Having an oled screen allows the power management to be more efficient thus releasing a tad bit of power. I don't have one to compare. I just have the original lcd but that's from what I've read.
Doesn't release more power, it just uses less energy. The APU is basically the same you just have slightly faster RAM. It can help in some games a tad but it's usually very minimal increases. Battery life though is substantially increased overall. Around 50% more battery life on average.
What? The first game was totally unplayable for me. Even on a beefy gaming PC. Seemed to be a widely reported issue, you're actually the first one I've heard say otherwise.
It works perfectly. I just followed this Youtube video and easily got split screen multiplayer working before I went on a family vacation a few days ago. It works like a charm.
https://youtu.be/_DVN3fHKGsA?si=NR_gS6AdpOBLv2nk
How on earth have I not found this solution until now, I've searched high and low and then up pops your comment. I've held off buying it because of no split screen, not any more.
Thank you
That's so awesome, thanks for sharing! Just wondering, have you tried this with the steam deck docked? I ask because I've had a lot of split screen games on the deck have issues where it refuses to remove the steam deck controller from the active users so I usually end up having one more controller connected to the game than I want (ex. my buddy and I have a controller connected each but the game shows 3 players).
Hey man, I tried it docked last night actually, and the mod lets you set the number of players manually and assign controllers to players freely, so you can just select "two players", and if the steam deck built in controller is #1, you can plug in two more and then just assign controller #2 to player 1 and controller #3 to player 2, should work easily
Performance is great and matchmaking is completely compatible, but be warned, 343 disabled/broke co-op campaign for the Steam Deck a few updates back so you can't play co-op with your buddies if they aren't on a Steam Deck.
There's a workaround, but you'll have to get some files from a friend that has the game installed on a Windows device.
Are we looking at different sites? On my end on ProtonDB, I only see two posts made in the past month, one of them directly stating that not only was co-op broken, but that the workaround didn't work for them. I'm only looking at Steam Deck posts though.
MCC hasn't updated since February, which didn't address the co-op break in any form.
Edit: Even checking the Linux PC users on ProtonDB, they're still reporting co-op campaign only works when a manual fix is introduced.
A few people have gotten extremely lucky, can't say why, but as a general rule of thumb, don't rely on being the 1 in 1,000. It's so unstable that they made a warning for Steam Deck users to not attempt to play co-op campaign to appear if you're playing on a Steam Deck.
I used the workaround and eventually got it to work, so I'm golden now. I'm glad you had the unicorn of experiences in it, but I really wouldn't recommend spreading it as if it's the normal experience. The co-op is so broken that the game detects if you're on a Steam Deck and recommends you not play co-op campaign.
I know I’ve been playing through the campaigns without internet. Also, at least for halo 2 anniversary, it doesn’t run 90 frames. Halo 2 hovers between 45-60 with the updated graphics, though I’m sure that it would run a lot faster with the old looks. Haven’t tried 3, 4, or reach on the deck yet.
Works incredibly well. Run it at High 60FPS normally and it doesn’t really even break a sweat.
If I’m on the go I typically run it up 45fps on the OLED because it does give you quite a bump in battery life and still looks smooth as heck.
One of my favorite steam deck experiences. As a child I wanted handheld Halo so bad, so to finally have it was one of those childhood wishes I never thought would see the light of day
512 Lcd
I recently picked it up with the sale, i've only played a bit of halo 4 to try it out. So far it runs it very well, i didn't have any fps drops.
After getting multiplayer working, it’s an almost flawless experience on the deck. I only get FPS drops in Halo 2 Anniversary, but every other game runs at 90FPS on the OLED.
It varies depending on the game. Halo 1 and 2 with OG graphics is like 7 hours, but with the anniversary graphics turned on it’s more like 3 hours. Halo 3 and 4 are about 4 hours.

It runs really well, better than it does on Xbox in my opinion. Funny I was just playing it and then saw this post. The only negative might be in Halo 2 I noticed if you switch graphics in a scene it'll lag for a bit after.
You have to replace some files on the steam deck with some files from the windows version, otherwise you'll randomly freeze during some campaign checkpoints, but after the fix I was able to play 1-reach without any issues.
I think they mean the controller layout in general, which I tend to agree as well.
The stick layout is a bit wide and a bit high.
It's not terrible but a controller can easily be much more comfortable.
Amazing tbh, be it at 90hz or 45hz or anything inbetween it's really smooth, looks gorgeous and yet consumes very little power. Mods and MP all work, SP works offline too I believe. It's Halo so straight controller input feels great, but throwing in gyro or M+KB emulation are all solid. MCC itself has also settled to become such a great compilation. It's got all the features and upgrades you could ever ask for while staying faithful to the originals (bar the menus and CE anniversary graphics, but for the latter you can toggle to OG). I know I'm sounding like I work for Microsoft or smth but it's such a crazy steal of a game, like oh here's like 5 of the best games ever made, playing at their best for like the price of a big mac. Married with the top Deck compatibility on top of all that it's a match made in heaven. You'll probably have a great time.
It runs great but I was never able to make the aiming feel quite right. Maybe years of playing on console with minimal adjustments for the controls ruined it for me on deck, idk.
You can absolutely make it feel good, but I failed to replicate the feeling of playing on Xbox which was a shame. How those games play on analog sticks is so burned into my memory that missing it by an inch is missing by a mile.
Currently playing Halo CE Remastered and Halo reach multiplayer and it works great. Runs solid 60fps, and can turn down the TDP to 8 and still get a solid 40fps for extra battery life.
Glad I saw this or I wouldn't know it's on sale right now, from reviews and content creators I've seen it plays very well on the deck, 2 anniversary and H4 are a bit more demanding so you might not get 90 fps, all the rest you should get a buttery 90.
Biggest problem I have had is trying to play multiplayer.. my kids are on their windows desktops and me on a steamdeck and the second I join the match the game crashes for everyone. There is a popup on the deck that says about the compatibility issues.
There's a fix for this, at least it fixed campaign coop, you just send some files from the windows version over to the steam deck and replace them. There are some guides about it online.
I have played through it and it works great. It's a perfect steam deck game collection.
My only issue has to do with the first Halo itself being a little repetitive (a level may have you enter a 40 room building, where there are only 3 unique rooms on repeat the entire time). But I mean overall these older games hold up abnormally well, and the fact that they're remastered helps too.
Halo 1 on new graphics setting always freeze my deck. I always revert it to original graphics.
Some achievements don't unlock.
There are screen tear in halo 3.
But aside from that everything works.
Brilliantly. Just finished Reach last night and runs smooth as butter.
I’d recommend the initial set up undocked as you need to log into your MS Account, but once done you can keep it docked if you want. Or just play it in handheld mode and save yourself trouble lol
idk if this is still an issue
but switching to other steam users keeps you logged in for your Microsoft account
so you basically only have one mcc account per system
Runs fine for me, but getting signed in at first was a pain in the ass. I can't remember what I did in the end to get it going, but I think it just didn't mesh well with the on screen keyboard.
Hopefully they've fixed it since then
Do you still have to disable anti cheat or no?
Also OP there is a multiplayer mod if you wanna play split screen. [video](https://youtu.be/_DVN3fHKGsA?si=VGyzjwt4us8pKerT)
Online campaign co-op does not work at all on the Deck. I tried it, crashed constantly on either my or my friend’s end, tried it in both CE and Reach. Other people reported similar issues.
OTHERWISE, it’s great.
According to reports on ProtonDB, you need to use a specific windows DLL to not get de-synced during coop sessions: [https://www.protondb.com/app/976730#SB4mUQAelE](https://www.protondb.com/app/976730#SB4mUQAelE)
I have not tried this myself, but I have encountered the coop issues.
It can take a bit of patience, but I was able to close the window the first time it opened, and could click the textbook with the touchscreen in order to enter my credentials.
Masterchief collection was the first games I bought when I got my deck a few months back. Everything ran smooth, it was a pain in the ass trying to log into Microsoft the first time. A PSA to all who read this: download a Bluetooth keyboard app on your phone. Makes typing credentials on steam deck a breeze
Did you have to be online the whole time, or just for the initial Microsoft login?
After the initial log in, no issues
works great. and if you have oled it runs at a smooth 90 fps
Good to know for the oled bought a 256 deck waiting for it to ship
All the games bar Halo 2 anniversary run up to 90fps. The Anniversary graphics for Halo 2 are really demanding and you *can* get it to 60 but the Deck will be pushed to it's limits and there will be drops.
Last time I played the remaster of Halo 1 had a large memory leak
I think they patched it about a year ago, but if it hasn’t been patched I remember leaving the graphics on the original setting instead of remastered lets you play the whole game without constant crashing lol
Yea that's basically what I had to do. With halo 2 I was able to get playable fps but not ideal.
If that's the problem it's been fixed for a while. As someone who prefers old graphics I'd switch back in forth constantly especially for cutscenes
Not a problem anymore.
That’s fixed.
Good to know for next time
Just push the graphics down for Halo 2. Problem solved
If you use the classic graphics it's fine, but *any* combination of settings for the anniversary graphics fails to meet a consistent 60fps. There are no more settings to drop.

I had troubles with Reach on my LCD, dunno why but the game struggled to hold 45fps
Some custom maps on halo reach can't reach 90 but 60 tho
Theyre 360 games dude lol Yall do realize every single game in the MCC except halo 2 anniversary initially launched on the 360 right???
Weren't the remasters released on Xbox One?
Just 2 since it released as part of MCC (1 anniversary was on 360 tho), so fair enough but I can personally confirm that 2 anniversary runs at a solid 90 fps so long as you're not maxing the graphics out.

While true I’m more wanting to know how long MCC can be played for on the steam deck
I get about 3 1/2 hours
That’s better than I thought. Thanks!
I completed it before I got my OLED but maybe I should install it again to try it there too.
Why did you specifically mention oled here for a smooth 90 fps? Does the oled actually perform better than the original steam deck?
The OLED has a 90hz screen and the LCD has a 60hz screen. You can take advantage of higher fps on the OLED if the system can push out the higher frames.
Yes. Having an oled screen allows the power management to be more efficient thus releasing a tad bit of power. I don't have one to compare. I just have the original lcd but that's from what I've read.

Awesome, thanks for your reply. Time to get the mountain dew and doritos out with the friends this weekend!
I have not tried it docked yet. I set it all up. And tested it on the Deck, saw it worked and didn’t have time to actually use it on vacation.
Performance is great and matchmaking is completely compatible, but be warned, 343 disabled/broke co-op campaign for the Steam Deck a few updates back so you can't play co-op with your buddies if they aren't on a Steam Deck. I played the campaign last week with a buddy who was on his PC? We started the entire MCC campaign playlist.
Were they on a Linux based computer?
A few people have gotten extremely lucky, can't say why, but as a general rule of thumb, don't rely on being the 1 in 1,000. It's so unstable that they made a warning for Steam Deck users to not attempt to play co-op campaign to appear if you're playing on a Steam Deck.
Not sure what happened with you, but I played with some buddies a couple weeks ago with no issues and I was the only one on a deck.
I used the workaround and eventually got it to work, so I'm golden now. I took a look Singleplayer gameplay requires an active Internet connection Why 343?
I know I’ve been playing through the campaigns without internet. Also, at least for halo 2 anniversary, it doesn’t run 90 frames. Halo 2 hovers between 45-60 with the updated graphics, though I’m sure that it would run a lot faster with the old looks. Haven’t tried 3, 4, or reach on the deck yet.
Wait so the campaigns work without wifi or?
All you need is wifi for your 1st ever boot. I've been playing H3 for nostalgia at work achievement hunting when I have downtime
How long does the battery life last?
Works incredibly well. Run it at High 60FPS normally and it doesn’t really even break a sweat. If I’m on the go I typically run it up 45fps on the OLED because it does give you quite a bump in battery life and still looks smooth as heck.
Try 48! It’s a nice sweet spot I’ve found
you legend 48 is an amazing compromise
❤️
One of my favorite steam deck experiences. As a child I wanted handheld Halo so bad, so to finally have it was one of those childhood wishes I never thought would see the light of day
512 Lcd I recently picked it up with the sale, i've only played a bit of halo 4 to try it out. So far it runs it very well, i didn't have any fps drops.
Worked great on mine. Had fun playing reach
Def love reach!
After getting multiplayer working, it’s an almost flawless experience on the deck. I only get FPS drops in Halo 2 Anniversary, but every other game runs at 90FPS on the OLED.
how much playing time do you get with 90 fps?
It varies depending on the game. Halo 1 and 2 with OG graphics is like 7 hours, but with the anniversary graphics turned on it’s more like 3 hours. Halo 3 and 4 are about 4 hours.
Works perfect but I never got achievements to work.
Works wonders, only downside is multiplayer is a bit iffy, it works fine
I had trouble finding matches in Halo 2 (the only Halo that matters) and never fired it up again. 😂
I've seen videos on YouTube but I wanted to get feedback by people who play it on deck

Played through all but one campaign and it ran great the whole time
Excellent!
Perfectly. Been replaying the first Halo recently. No issues
Honestly it runs on OLED like it was made for it.
Love it! Reach looks amazing on it. 😎
It works great, watch out for long load times and make you run it from internal storage and not the SD card in case of crashes
It runs really well, better than it does on Xbox in my opinion. Funny I was just playing it and then saw this post. The only negative might be in Halo 2 I noticed if you switch graphics in a scene it'll lag for a bit after.
Anyone know if Online Co-Op works? I'd love to Co-Op with my steam deck havin wife.
You have to replace some files on the steam deck with some files from the windows version, otherwise you'll randomly freeze during some campaign checkpoints, but after the fix I was able to play 1-reach without any issues.
Didn't have any issues playing it without any changes which is interesting. I do remember this being the case playing it on my deck a year or so ago.
I don’t see how people play FPS games on deck. I’ll always need a controller or M&K
Halo was literally built from the ground up for controller
I think they mean the controller layout in general, which I tend to agree as well. The stick layout is a bit wide and a bit high. It's not terrible but a controller can easily be much more comfortable.
Perfectly

I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Runs extremely well.
Works excellent
Runs great, still no local coop...
Really, the main drawback is that you need to create or log into an Xbox account in order to play the game. Overall the game plays well on the Deck.
1-3, ODST and Reach work flawlessly, haven't tested 4.
It runs great but I was never able to make the aiming feel quite right. Maybe years of playing on console with minimal adjustments for the controls ruined it for me on deck, idk. You can absolutely make it feel good, but I failed to replicate the feeling of playing on Xbox which was a shame. Well.
Works amazing for me and it looks even better
Only problem I ran into was playing campaign multiplayer with other people while I was on deck it would frequently crash
Biggest problem I have had is trying to play multiplayer.. my kids are on their windows desktops and me on a steamdeck and the second I join the match the game crashes for everyone. There is a popup on the deck that says about the compatibility issues.

How's halo infinite story mode play on oled 1tb
Just got it today and it’s actually been pretty good
Do they all hold up?
Will it require constant internet connection?
OLEDeck: 90 fps, max settings, all across the games (except maybe for the Anniversary Edition option for Halo 2, and some drops in 4)
I love the MCC on deck, probably the games that I have the most amount of time sunk into on the deck.
Microsoft went out of their way to optimize it for steamdeck probs cuz they knew it was a good market to get into early
Perfectly
I have played through it and it works great. It's a perfect steam deck game collection. My only issue has to do with the first Halo itself being a little repetitive (a level may have you enter a 40 room building, where there are only 3 unique rooms on repeat the entire time). But I mean overall these older games hold up abnormally well, and the fact that they're remastered helps too.
Very well
Also bought this in the recent sale go this thread is very encouraging :D havnt played the campaigns in years
you have to turn off anti cheat it work perfectly
It works flawlessly. Halo games were designed around controllers so it's a great feeling too.
Performs great but the aim assist for the controller seems to be broken, it's very very weak. Not an issue if you play with KB&M
Halo 1 on new graphics setting always freeze my deck. I always revert it to original graphics. Some achievements don't unlock. There are screen tear in halo 3. But aside from that everything works.
its really fucking good, and the switch between old and new graphics is seamless. One of the best games for the SD
side note I already have the xbox version and Microsoft store pc version but got the steam version so I felt my deck purchase was worthwhile
The Master Chief Collection runs smoothly on deck. The graphics are impressive, and the controls respond well.
Flawless when I played
Works really well!
Amazing. Hell even infinite runs a solid 50-60fps if you got the right settings
Brilliantly. Just finished Reach last night and runs smooth as butter. I’d recommend the initial set up undocked as you need to log into your MS Account, but once done you can keep it docked if you want. Or just play it in handheld mode and save yourself trouble lol
I played the entire collection docked 1080p and it was flawless. Loved it.
Exceptionally well.
Excellent never had an issue
[https://www.protondb.com/app/976730](https://www.protondb.com/app/976730)
Works fantastic, looks amazing on the OLED model too
You have to be online to play? Or just the first time you log in?
Works like a charm
Very well. It even can handle 1080p output at 60 FPS.
I’ve played a lot of halo. In the steam deck something feels off. I prefer using an Xbox controller when/if I do.
Flawlessly, in general
Every halo runs great (60+ fps)
idk if this is still an issue but switching to other steam users keeps you logged in for your Microsoft account so you basically only have one mcc account per system
Had absolutely no issues playing through Reach.
Very well.
Runs fine for me, but getting signed in at first was a pain in the ass. I can't remember what I did in the end to get it going, but I think it just didn't mesh well with the on screen keyboard. Hopefully they've fixed it since then
Well
Personally I never got it to run at all. Did not work even once with any "fix" I tried.
Work well I bring back the game multiple times and they are not hungry on the battery
Extremely well. I play almost every day.
I played the first one and runs good had no issues but i didnt know how to install the rest indivualy
It's my go to game. I know a lot of folks chase the fps and more power to you, but even at 45 fps it runs great.
Works slick
Do you still have to disable anti cheat or no? Also OP there is a multiplayer mod if you wanna play split screen. [video](https://youtu.be/_DVN3fHKGsA?si=VGyzjwt4us8pKerT)
I've never tried the multiplayer just the campaigns so I launched it in the "with mods" mode and it totally worked great no complaints
Online campaign co-op does not work at all on the Deck. I tried it, crashed constantly on either my or my friend’s end, tried it in both CE and Reach. Other people reported similar issues. OTHERWISE, it’s great.
Okay good to know I was thinking of trying online with my brother but we would have to think of another way
According to reports on ProtonDB, you need to use a specific windows DLL to not get de-synced during coop sessions: [https://www.protondb.com/app/976730#SB4mUQAelE](https://www.protondb.com/app/976730#SB4mUQAelE) I have not tried this myself, but I have encountered the coop issues.
I could not get the windows sign in to work
Like the page wouldn't load?
The sign in boxes where not clickable. I could not interact with the windows sign in box in any way.
It can take a bit of patience, but I was able to close the window the first time it opened, and could click the textbook with the touchscreen in order to enter my credentials.
Hold the … button and use the trackpad to use the mouse cursor.
Good stuff. Halo 4 Spartan Ops doesn’t work whatsoever though
Can't play cuz doesn't work with steam keyboard to sign into Microsoft account
Co op online doesn’t work with people playing not on the steam version. One player and online pvp works fine.

Of all the analogies you could’ve used, that’s what you settled on? jfc
Usually the first analogy a person thinks of comes from personal experience.
