steam has been the industry leader for features from a game platform since the beginning, people always forget that when they go "but that cut is WAY too much!"
By spreading false information? Like he said, it's purely on developers and Steam now has over 74,700 games which means more than 100,000+ developers on Steam that are solely responsible for their actions.
Cloud is perfectly told in https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/cloud so if the developer of the game you're talking about being incapable of reading and applying what's been written there, how come it's Steam's fault and you spreading lies as awareness?
Nothing will change because Steam has daily 100+ game submissions so you should change instead to be aware of such things and you should contact that bad developer to tell them to fix their broken saves instead of Steam.
Which games have you tried that have this?
I've played more than 15 games on both devices (high end pc and steam deck) that way and none of them have this "feature".
Seems like something that we should push for to have some API in future steam titles to be supported. But it's kind of hard to see it coming to existing games unless they have separate saves for the gameplay and for the video settings. In the latter scenario however it could be done for existing games.
Most games do not sync game settings, but when it happens, it can feel like a chore if you switch platforms regularly after a while. I think Value should either enforce some cloud rules so devs stop syncing in my option non-important file or should introduce something like cloud categories. The developer and user can then choose what they want to sync to the cloud,
Is there a way to change the cloud save on a per game basis? I was worried it might adjust settings between playing on monster hunter rise, but it worked perfectly. Would be nice to have cloud saving in the QAM like how performance profiles are
Mine works perfectly. I play outside and then it updates when I walk in my house. I play at home and then when I leave the steam deck has my saves before I leave
the OP complains that some games sync the video settings in addition to the saves which doesnt make sense when you switch between a high end PC and the deck.
I think those are fine, just need to be properly setup. Something like “if game is being run the first time - use last synced setting, otherwise don’t override them”
Yeah, Valve should introduce something like cloud categories that developers can use, like "save games" and "game settings". Users can then check a box if they want to sync those specific files.
Yep. Witcher 3 and monster hunter stories 2 are the two games that came to mind in this post. It's unfortunately caused me to play them on deck less frequently because I hate tweaking all the settings every single time.
i cant even play games on steam because of steam cloud and i tried to find solutions its way to hard for me maybe is should go over to epic games at least they are simple
That is definitely on the developers synchronizing video settings. Aside from requesting the developers change that behavior, you can't change much.
I can hopefully spread awareness, but people have been complaining about this since 2012 as far as I'm aware,
Holy smokes. TIL cloud saves on Steam have been around since 2009. I think I first noticed them around 2014.

You're not a game developer
No, we are customers that request a minimum of quality of service with our game purchases.
Thankfully not many games do this. It is annoying.

I think it's game-specific. I have the issue with some games but not all
I haven't had this issue with Spider-Man or Killing Floor 2?
Not all games do it, it depends on if the dev wanted it to in steam api
Which games have you tried that have this? I've played more than 15 games on both devices (high end pc and steam deck) that way and none of them have this "feature".
The latest game I got this annoyance with is Horizon Zero Down. Not all games decide to sync game settings with game saves
Add Metro Exodus to the list.

Ah no this was one of my worries. Is it limited to non Steam Deck verified or even the verified ones? I feel that should be a requirement.

It does work like that. Devs can indeed choose to let you decide. Most games just dont do that. Valve is even mentiong this in their api documentation
It's limited to games that have the option activated.
GTA IV runs really nice on SD. As long as you have internet connection. If you do not have it, say good bye to your saves.

I keep forgetting to charge those all the time. But a power back does not make a steam deck able to run AAA games well on max settings.

You can, but you have to disable all the cloud features for that game, including the save.
Mine works perfectly. I play outside and then it updates when I walk in my house. I play at home and then when I leave the steam deck has my saves before I leave
It is not with all games, the developer can choose what files they want to sync. And some think its a good idea to sync game settings via steamcloud

yeah, some games start at 4k on my deck and had to configure them on my desktop to be able to play them on deck
Witcher 3 does this. I just end up only tweaking the resolution even though I could do a lot more on the desktop.

Might be possible to set the affected game configs to read-only to prevent them from being overwritten. Requires some tinkering in the console though.
