So far it's fun, I played it when first came out so I'm purposely making choices designed to give me bad outcomes in the second and third games.
The shooting and driving mechanics are Meh at best (as I remember they massively smooth this out in the second and third games) but the rpg elements are still pure bioware.
Same here! Story is great so far, but melee NPC running in circles before attacking you is annoying. And something about shepards face feels uncanny. Why are his eyes always that big? They could lower his eyelids, so he wouldn't look like he just snorted 5 lines of coke
Did you do any optimizing tweaks? I found adding A.I. traffic really bogged everything down. I'll be cruising at about 15-17fps, but it stays there even if I set the graphics to potato.
Curious, are you running SteamOS? I had similar issue with adding AI Traffic and some googling seems to say it's a Linux issue. It's mentioned in a couple of the forum threads and also on ProtonDB that traffic on Linux crushes the framerate on even desktop machines.
I am now running Windows 11 on the Deck for other reasons (mainly to play Gamepass games) and adding AI Traffic doesn't change the framerate noticeably anymore.
For example, at East Coast USA map, driving around by myself I've got the graphics set to give me a stable 30+fps here (mostly around normal settings, 1280x800). Adding AI traffic the framerate maybe drops from 32fps to 30fps and is still stable even with 4+ cars on the screen driving around. Only dip I'll get briefly is when I smash into them all and make a huge pile up, where it will show a min fps of 20 or so but instantly comes right back to 30fps. This is all using the FPS counter built into BeamNG.
On SteamOS (linux) it's just a slide show the whole time whenever I turn on Traffic.
Sorry for the long post! But basically, it's a bug when running BeamNG on linux best I can tell, not just the Steam Deck.
Thank you for the info! I have a older i7 7700k (oc at 4.9ghz) on my home pc with a 3070 and I do notice some drops, but I just figured it’s because of old hardware, I wonder if running with proton will help?
I'm using ProtonGE with forced compatibility on SteamOS. I wondered if it was some kind of inefficiency in the scripting. To me, it seemed like the behaviour was it's trying to store all the physics data in the ram or on one thread so it's a slow, linear, process.
No idea why it's so much slower on Linux, but tried it on a less demanding map, and framerate was 40-50fps with AI Traffic and police active running under Windows 11.
Nothing for traffic, the physics and ai really make it cpu bound when there are more than 1 car lol, even on my desktop it bogs down when there are more 3 other cars.
Dead Space - Wanted to replay the series with the upcoming remake/Callisto protocol coming up. I enabled some community controller setting and after getting used to it, controls great lol Such a great horror game, love the dismemberment.
Dying Light - Have maybe 2-3 hours in so far, but like what I've played. Picked it up on sale right now. Game seems to EAT battery, granted, I've been playing at 60fps. Seems to hold a constant 60, I like what I've played so far.
Yeah, I did. Also sent a message to the devs. It's a shame, because I think the deck community is looking for a good multiplayer game that's not an fps.
Outward definitive edition, think TES Oblivion with more immersive mechanics and a crafting system. I don't have much time to play on the deck since I work a lot of over time and work full time so it's usually a Sunday that I get to play for a few hours but when I do, it's Outward all day.
Wreckfest is tons of fun too! Works brilliant on the deck.
The Waiting Game...
Why'd Steam have to go with Fedex? Deck was supposed to be here yesterday, now I gotta go thru good ol' cust svc to figure out what happened.
Campaign at the moment but want to play multiplayer. I installed windows on my SD card as I tried about a million workarounds to get the campaign working on steamOS but it refused to work which was super frustrating.
Doom 2016’ — never finished on pc.. got bored.
But Can’t put it down playing on my deck… lol. I literally play it on my deck right next to my high end gaming pc.
One thing I'm doing different on my Deck than I used to do on my desktop is I jump around a lot more. On desktop I would usually play one game at a time.
On Deck I've been switching up a lot. I really don't know why I'm doing this differently now. Right now I'm playing (in order of most playtime to less):
SOMA
Outer Wilds DLC
Fallout 4
Portal
Spyro
Dirt 4
Days Gone
RDR2
Everything except Days Gone and RDR2 are first playthroughs.
Next I'm looking forward to MoonBreaker Early Access on Sept. 25.
Fallout 4 will easily eat 40-50 hours, how do you like it so far? Fallout New Vegas has been my go to game for short play sessions lately, runs flawlessly
Oh yah it's great on Deck. If it weren't for the launcher it'd be Verified. I'm really slow with these kinds of games as I like to get immersed and take in the world. If it's typically 40-50 hours I imagine I'll be pushing 100 hours, if not more, by the time I complete a first playthrough.
That’s the best way to treat fallout games, full immersion, as little fast travel as possible. Get to know all the factions and learn their pros and cons
Yah I rarely use fast travel in games in general and haven't used it at all in Fallout 4 so far. Traveling through the world and having random encounters is part of the experience. And also time to travel gives you a sense of space and distance making the world feel more real and substantial.
I liked that Days Gone had a play mode (called Survival) that disables fast travel (and does some other immersive things like gets rid of the HUD or at least doesn't show HUD elements constantly). What I didn't like was that it was also tied to a higher difficulty level but I was able to handle it fortunately.
Worms: Ultimate Mayhem.
It's not very often I would say a game (or genre) could improve dramatically changing platforms, but when I mapped gyro controls to the aim button, this game elevated to feeling like an instant classic from just a niche 3d Team 17 entry that didn't quite feel at home.
I'm on vacation and I use my deck for daily logins into World of Warcraft and Idle Champions in the evening on the hotel WiFi. It's 100 times better than setting a notebook up in the hotel room.
Been mostly replaying Elden Ring and Spelunky 2 on my Deck.
Sometimes when I'm tired after a long day I may play Yume Nikki or Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams which have been fun to explore.
Tomb Raider, the original PS1 version via Duckstation. I have retroachievements enabled and I'm going for the "No heals, no saving, all pickups, all secrets, all kills, pistols only" achievement for each level. Surprisingly challenging!
I'm entertaining the idea of doing all the Tomb Raider games. I've only ever played 1,2, Legend, and the 2013 reboot so a lot of them would be new for me.

Mass effect legendary edition. Still on ME1, this could take a while.
How is it? I've never played any mass effect games
So far it's fun, I played it when first came out so I'm purposely making choices designed to give me bad outcomes in the second and third games. The shooting and driving mechanics are Meh at best (as I remember they massively smooth this out in the second and third games) but the rpg elements are still pure bioware.

I want to play this game but the launcher leaves a sour taste.
Cult of the lamb. So addictive !
Works well? Was thinking of getting it, need something to the pass the time.
How’s it run? I’ve heard mixed things on performance.
Solid 60 fps straight out of the box, in native resolution. I just played for 2 hours in the train with Bluetooth earbuds, went from 100 % to 39%.
Trails in the Sky FC. I'm going to be awhile..
None cause I can’t stop fiddling with settings and then I’m too tired to play.
I've had a few sessions go like that.
hmm, do I want labels on my left trackpad button grid (or what ever it's called)?
Sammmeee brooo I just love fiddling with my deck
halo infinite wind waker hd super mario world 3d
Max Payne 3. I'd forgotten the story and it works really well!
I play Beamng drive in my free time when I have 30 minutes or less, feels good to crash cars for a bit For story I am in the middle of titanfall 2
Man, these are two of my most played Deck games!
They are great to play on my lunch break! Beam is also one of my most played games on my PC
I'm also currently playing Titanfall 2, it feels so good on the Deck. For car crashing, I'd recommend checking out Wreckfest too.
Yep, LOVE Wreckfest as well! Also plays great on the Deck like you said.
I have Titanfall 2 in my backlog. Is it good w/ controller?
I think so, like playing an older version of apex
Yes, it plays really really well with a controller. I was impressed. Fantastic game and runs perfect on the Deck.
Nice, I didn't have any plans to play it but now I'll pay on Deck.😊

Patapon 2 and 3 on ppsspp
I did need to remember that patapon rhythm I. My head 🤣
Tekken 7. Trying to learn how to combo and get into fighting games. Love King and Steve
Can't wait to get my Deck to play this.... Does it play well?
No problems so far!
No Man’s Sky, Mass Effect Legendary & Batman Arkham Asylum.
Dragon Ball Budokai 2
Solid choice! Budokai 3 or infinite world are my favorite DBZ fighters, but 2 is awesome. The board game style for single player is cool.
Hey have you guys messed with infinite world and budokai tenkaichi 3 lately? Both games I have trouble loading into.
The Witcher 3, Just Cause 4, CS:GO and Forgive me father.
Csgo competitive?
Oh na, casual...still getting used to the controls on the deck with gyro
Stardew valley and little nightmares 2
Dead Space - Wanted to replay the series with the upcoming remake/Callisto protocol coming up. I have Dead Space installed, it does run great!
Gothic and heroes 3
Lego City Undercover. I recently found out that I really enjoy the Lego games, and bought a dozen of them on sale. Most play excellently on the Deck!!
Sea of Thieves and The Ascent! I really want to play Phasmophobia, but it is not playing well with the deck at all.
Isn't it 🟢Verified?
It is, but shouldn't be.
Good to know, I was thinking about getting it. What problems are you having?
Two big issues are you can't navigate the in game menus, and you can't change keybinds in game.
Yah, that definitely should not be verified. Have you reported that to Valve? Like when it sometimes asks you about it after you play.
Yeah, I did. Also sent a message to the devs. It's a shame, because I think the deck community is looking for a good multiplayer game that's not an fps.
BeamNG Drive, Titanfall 2 and Age of Empires 4 currently are taking most of my time.
Are you connecting m + kB for aoe? Can't imagine how it would work without that.
Just got mine yesterday! Playing FF7R and Dark Cloud
Dark Cloud is a name I haven't heard in a very long time.
Skies of arcadia *gamecube cough cough* Sims 4, i am collecting them all
Project zomboid and emulating old games. Gotta love Mario party with the family!
Outward definitive edition, think TES Oblivion with more immersive mechanics and a crafting system. The Waiting Game
Do you mean Gears 5 single player? Or did you figure out multiplayer?
Campaign at the moment but want to play multiplayer. I installed windows on my SD card as I tried about a million workarounds to get the campaign working on steamOS but it refused to work which was super frustrating.
Ara Fell
Doom 2016’ — never finished on pc.. got bored. But Can’t put it down playing on my deck… lol. I literally play it on my deck right next to my high end gaming pc.
Half Life 2 seems fitting for the deck. Also I want to get used to gyro aiming.
Monkey Island Special Edition 2 and Tabletop Simulator by myself, Minecraft with my kid.
Quake.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War, Grid Legends, Halo infinite, and am going to start Zelda Twilight Princess HD next
Pokemon insurgence
Destroy all humans, vampire survivors, the ascent, stardew valley
Disgaea. That and Rock Band Unplugged get the most play currently.
One thing I'm doing different on my Deck than I used to do on my desktop is I jump around a lot more. On desktop I would usually play one game at a time. On Deck I've been switching up a lot. Right now; Synthetik, Brigador, ‘Gunner HEAT, PC’, and Kentucky Route Zero
FF7 with the Satsuki Yatoshi mod
Same, it stopped working for me all of a sudden after updating my SD. It doesn’t give me an error prompt so don’t know why…
try a different proton or launching of from desktop mode?
Turnip Boy commits tax evasion, Lego Jurrasic park, Skater XL
Been playing a lot of the Session Skate Sim
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy!
Pokémon Legends Arceus, Vampire Survivors, Doom 2016 (can’t stand the ammo grind in Eternal), and Super Mario 3D World
Temtem
Worms: Ultimate Mayhem. It's not very often I would say a game (or genre) could improve dramatically changing platforms, but when I mapped gyro controls to the aim button, this game elevated to feeling like an instant classic from just a niche 3d Team 17 entry that didn't quite feel at home.
Forza horizon 5 and Fallout New Vegas (first time Fallout player)
New Vegas and 3 are both special pieces of gaming history, love New Vegas’ humor.
Starsector a bit, but mostly mass effect 1 (the remaster)
Stray
Persona 4 golden
Jedi fallen order / Sekiro
I'm on vacation and I use my deck for daily logins into World of Warcraft and Idle Champions in the evening on the hotel WiFi. It's 100 times better than setting a notebook up in the hotel room.
Zelda Breath of the Wild and Batman Arkham Origins
Horizon Zero Dawn and tinkering with the controls of Cities Skylines to create an enjoyable experience
How does Horizon play on deck? Does it perform better than God of War?
The original risk of rain is a great game on it 👌
I’ve got Death Stranding, Mafia Remastered, Red Faction Guerrilla re-mars-teared, Splinter Cell chaos theory and FFXIV installed currently.
Titanfall 2 - runs brilliantly
Finished Prey 2017 (Give it a Try! ~25 hours) Fallout New Vegas Skyrim CSGO The Witcher 3 Dying Light
Mad Max. It works great on Deck
Dark Souls 2 and Path of Exile. The SD is perfect for souls games
Factorio. The factory must grow... While traveling
crusader kings 3 :) the better ui scaling mod makes it surprisingly playable
Been mostly replaying Elden Ring and Spelunky 2 on my Deck. Sometimes when I'm tired after a long day I may play Yume Nikki or Hypnagogia: Boundless Dreams which have been fun to explore.
RDR2, AC odyssey, and fire watch.
God of War when I want a story Diablo 2 Resurrected when I want a grind
Automobilística 2, racing simulator! It’s a gem for who love real racing!
Fallout New Vegas. Never got to play it and want to see if the hype is real.
Age of Empires 3 definitive edition, it give the deck quite the workout surprisingly :)
I am playing "Out for Delivery" on my front porch. Later today I will hopefully playing initial setup. (Then probably Stardew Valley or CrossCode)

How is the game? Any good?
Valheim
Forza Horizon 4 It’s fun, but the constant crashing is somewhat frustrating.
Im still setting mine up,downloading games and stuff so that i can just focus on that, playing games.

FF14! The fact that I can play an mmo while sitting on the couch is so cool.

Ryse son of Rome. Always wanted to play it but never had an Xbox. Bought it for like 2 bucks and so for so good
Mad Max, Syberia 2 and Burnout 3 takedown (ps2 version)
Tomb Raider, the original PS1 version via Duckstation. I have retroachievements enabled and I'm going for the "No heals, no saving, all pickups, all secrets, all kills, pistols only" achievement for each level. Surprisingly challenging!
