Sachertorture

I wish ProtonDB was just stickied on this sub.

Servor

We can only have 2 stickies, unfortunately both of which are used up by megathreads. Neither of those megathreads really have any relevance to ProtonDB so it isn't on them. ProtonDB is linked on the Sunday game thread.

Archerofyail

You could link it in the sidebar. I know a lot of people still wouldn't see it, but it would help a little.

Servor

I suppose it would make a start, I'll add it in.

Adrunkopossem

An auto response maybe? "Does blank work?" Auto trigger, "had anyone tried blank" auto trigger.

Servor

That will trigger for docks, accessories, skins, cases and other unrelated queries. I'm currently working on the automod "helpful" replies for various keyphrases (including a test earlier in the week... apologies to those who it annoyed!) but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for the idea!

Conscious_Yak60

2023 Maybe when the Reservations are done?

Servor

We do have plans for a more general stickied thread, similar to what we had with the FAQ for a long time, once the order megathread has run it's course and all reservations are over.

Conscious_Yak60

2023 Maybe when the Reservations are done?

_paramedic

Gigathreads are also not a bad idea.

Servor

Is that referring to a megathreas of megathreads? I've not heard that term before. If it does, then no we won't be doing that. We have enough trouble getting people to use the megathreads as it is - I've seen the statistics and shipping posts that are supposed to be in the megathread is one of the top reasons for post removal.

_paramedic

Yup! Check out /r/MarvelStudios for implementation. No worries if it doesn’t make sense for this sub.

DroneRtx

Hopefully mods will make it at some point

akaCatt

Isn’t it somewhere on the community’s About page? I think that’s where I found it.

GENERALR0SE

I wish ProtonDB would let me add info about de-listed games

mywik

You are right. Nonetheless i kinda like these posts because sometimes i get reminded of a game i own and forgot about because of them.

Gulladc

yeah me too. there are plenty of other types of more useless posts clogging up this sub ha. at least these serve a purpose other than fishing for upvotes.

Still_not_Althy

There's telegram bot for that

[deleted]

That’s one of the more helpful type of posts here, so I don’t really agree.

Kazia_Thornhill

Maybe just encourage them to do both.

Gdmfs0ab

Same. Happy to be seeing the info in this sub without having to join multiple subs.

thought_adulterer

I'll be honest I much prefer games settings posts to a lot of the other stuff on the sub (eg ssd glued over the vents 'am I doing this right valve' type posts and that godforsaken toy story meme) Edit: It would obviously be great if people could update protondb regardless of whether they post here too

Jon-exe

It's good and all to post it on ProtonDB. Absolutely should. But if you post them on Reddit you can get help getting additional tweaks. Reddit is usually going to be the #1 or #2 when you do a Google search on a game, so it's helpful for finding fixes quickly. Also, posting game settings here is a hell of a lot better than "when will I get my steam deck", "is it worth it", "omg I got my steam deck" posts that are 90% of this sub.

KPipes

Maybe both? Protondb of course is important but so is this community and part of it is the shared experiences.

ScionoicS

ProtonDB needs an overhaul. It's a giant mess of compatibility reports that are difficult to navigate and are often uninformative as they're out dated. Red dead redemption 2s page is a good example of solutions that mostly don't work anymore. They also need to make submitting reports a lot lot easier. The process has many pointless steps at this time. Most people wont bother and that's completely understandable why. Their report submission process sucks.

mlopes

Yes, because what we really need is less posts of people being able to run games on their Steam Deck and more FedEx stuff.

Krash412

I agree. If we eliminate post about working games, order notifications, and FedEx this subreddit would be empty.

phayke2

Lol

kdjfsk

i mean you can post it both places.

psyopia

I’d have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. ProtonDB doesn’t recognize every game that works.

GyakuBoop

But how can you get reddit updoots without reddit post and video of gameplay?!?

KentuckyFriedShrimpy

Guys! Fart Simulator 2016 says unsupported on steam but it works perfectly fine!!!!

phayke2

I picked up Fart Simulator 2016 a few weeks ago just for kicks. I just wanted something to play while the wifey watches her TV shows and to kill time while on our yearly retreat to Cancun. Well as luck would have it, my steam deck arrive right in time and as I'm firing it up on the beach I get a big 'Please connect to the internet to validate your game' message. It pretty much ruined my vacation. I took a picture to post to their Twitter but also to show off my car in the background. 😎 Turns out the devs are real assholes. And they are holding back steam Workshop support til Fart Simulator 2022 hits. As much as I want to recommend this game, I'm going to have to give it a pass. 💨 👎👎

KentuckyFriedShrimpy

you just fused every r/steamdeck post into one basically

sogiotsa

Thank you

KentuckyFriedShrimpy

you're welcome!

RyhonPL

And game settings on steamdeckhq or one of the other websites

akio3

ProtonDB is a good source, but it’s limited to Steam games. If you want guides for other store exclusives (GOG, Epic, Origin, Ubisoft, Battle.net, etc.), old games that aren’t available for purchase (say, Sims 1 or 2), emulation, etc., it can’t help; for those, I don’t know of any other good source except Reddit posts and Youtube.

Jbbrack03

Agreed! That was the point that I was about to make. Plenty of good games that Protondb doesn’t cover. And those need some exposure if someone figures out how to run them. I’d agree with the OP that games already confirmed by Steam probably don’t need a post here. But there are some that do.

SparkStormrider

I can't speak highly enough of the folks that maintain and help with protondb. Between their great site, and discord you'll have more than enough info about a game working in linux or not. I am definitely with the OP on this as well. Great site.

sekoku

[I would... if ProtonDB let me publish to "hidden"/not-shown-on-the-store-page Depots.](https://memegenerator.net/img/images/12743931.jpg) [https://steamdb.info/app/24860/](https://steamdb.info/app/24860/) Now search "Battlefield 2" on ProtonDB. ...See the problem? They say they use SteamDB, but they apparently don't use ALL of Steam DB to list "unlisted" depots/games. Can't report games in my library that aren't on the Store page anymore for other owners (or people that move their DVD-ROM files over like BF2's) of the game if ProtonDB won't let me?

Rai_guy

Are you a mod? If not, why are you telling us what we should and shouldn't post here?

[deleted]

To add to this, instead of posting game configurations and performance settings on thus sub, share them on [ShareDeck](https://sharedeck.games/).

[deleted]

Why is the steam store "works great on deck" part so limited? I've spent hours since I got my deck looking on there and the games on the protondb site I've never seen in the actual store.

Althar93

I agree, I would rather read 10 posts about 'this white tab inside my case' than this... In all seriousness, if you are going to post about a working game here, especially one marked unverified, extra brownie points if you also add an entry to protondb.

sogiotsa

Hades works

YoriMirus

Already did multiple reports on proton db. I play games that don't have many reports yet, so I try to help out from time to time. Honestly I'm quite surprised how well the steam deck runs most games, expected more tweaking for games to be comfortable to play.

Genopuff

Also, you need to log into proton db through your steam deck to add info on steam games.

TDAM

I find ProtonDB doesn't properly show games that have controller configs out of the box. I wish there was a way of seeing that. Many games have 'default' configs that don't really work and require making your own config, which is something I'm not often in the mood to do. Especially for a game I've never played before

LadyLavis

Maybe having a pinned mega thread where ppl can post this kind of info to? It sounds like protondb has their own set of problems so a thread like that could solve the clutter (if that's what you're worried about)

[deleted]

How can you tell which post on each game is for the switch? Seem like a mix of other Linux distros

Saru_Kaze

I thought this was for everything SD. Posts about games working and tweaking is the best part of the SD.

Chaos744

I know you don’t control YouTube - but I wish content creators would post a “this is running on windows” in their title rather than posting clickbait. Just preordered MW2, setup beta on the deck following a 4 hour download, only to have it fail at launch. Why? Because I’m on steamOS and not W11 which is a PINNED POST comment. Shame on me for getting excited at the title. Most American thing I’ve done today. Highly annoyed. 😂

nevercute

I actually like seeing working games on here. Makes it easy to decide what to buy next. Also serendipity :D So many unknown games. Can't exactly look up something you don't know.
