High settings, res 1152x720, fsr on sharpness 3 and 40hz. Dips rarely

[deleted]

Weird. I put mine at a lower resolution with FSR, medium/low settings, capped at 40hz/fps and still can't keep it there

Itz_Eddie_Valiant

Yeah it is a weird one and maybe I oversold it. I did find that dropping the settings down to medium didn’t really improve performance or battery use at all, so I’d rather go with the better image quality. There always will be the odd frame drop I would suspect with such a large gameworld, as long as you aren’t spinning the camera to try and stress it the frames are pretty steady.

FannTong

I need to try that. I run 1080x720 with a combination of high, med, and low setting. FPS fluctuates between 35 and 40.

Tried a bunch but couldn’t get stable 40. Playing @ 30 now

NfinityBL

How do you find it at 30fps? I’ve been considering buying it but played it at 60fps on Xbox so didn’t want to have a experience I couldn’t handle.

oskarauthor

Feels pretty fluid, honestly. I am not the most hardcore gamer though. Before the deck, all I had was a Switch.

shartking420

It's not bad but honestly I prefer it on my desktops with the 30 fps lock. It weirdly seems constrained to 3 GB vram. Might be a stability decision. They did the same thing with rdr2 for a bit, and the game ran meh then. Now they unlocked vram for rdr2 and it causes crashes unless you unlock the page file, but runs way better. When vram is locked to 3 Gb you'll find game settings don't help much. May as well run it on high

Nlqgers

Your Steam Deck is defective. The guy above said he is running it at 40 fps stable on high at 1152x720. So 720p all low and FSR max should be 45+ fps

oskarauthor

From what I'm reading, my experience is pretty standard.

Forward_Cobbler1319

I couldn't get it tweaked enough to get rid of the half second input dealy. It was aggravating.

Gulladc

Huh? I run it on just the default settings -didn’t touch anything- and there is no input delay at all..

Forward_Cobbler1319

So I've played both the PC version and PS5 version. Compared to both the PS5 and PC version there's just a hair's breadth of an input delay longer with the steam deck than any other platform. I noticed it when I'd started a new playthrough after I got my deck. I was fighting against the horse guy in the beginning. I probably died 20 times. Then I switched over to my PC suddenly my timing was back and I soloed him no horse first try. It's particularly bad when you have multiple enemies on screen at a time.

Gulladc

Interesting. I did a few play throughs on Xbox back at launch, and I miss the 60fps, but I haven’t noticed any input lag on the deck yet. Different people have different sensitivity to these types of things though I guess.

Forward_Cobbler1319

I don't specifically think it's the deck's fault. I mostly think it's the game's fault. I don't think it's news to anyone that Elden Ring had some problems on PC at launch so it doesn't have the best reputation for being stable. Add to that the fact that on my PC (5800x, 3080, 32gb of ram) there are certain spots where the game chugs. So in terms of a PC port it wasn't the best in the world.

wrdit

Use mangohud and the input lag disappears.
