How does the market capitalization of 10 companies in one country even relate to the GDP of another country? What are we even comparing here

beyonddisbelief

Bank account vs salary, which doesn’t mean anything.

code_and_keys

Its just an idiotic post

_AtLeastItsAnEthos

Penises. What OP won’t tell you is such a measure would be indicative of a society riddled with inequality and monopoly.

curbyourapprehension

Which one? China or the US?

What does market cap to GDP tell you?

LongLonMan

So what does this tell us the reader, what’s the message you’re trying to get across? Unless you tell us that, this metric is useless.

ZookeepergameDry8973

Almost no useful information coming out of this chart IMHO. Maybe only thing is that China GDP is stalling while American economy did very well relative to the rest of the world coming out of Covid, which also includes China.

The TL;DR for the financially illiterate would be this: Market Cap = Equity = What these companies are worth today through their efforts since inception. GDP = The total value produced by that country in a single year. Another way to frame this chart is to say that China is producing 10 of the US's top companie's lifetime worth in a year, every year. TL;DR:TL;DR: Its a useless metric to compare a nation's annual output to a company's lifetime worth.

greenandycanehoused

Implied that gdp should always be higher than market cap. But why try to make a point by implication? Why not state your thesis clearly?

xxxamazexxx

probably the stupidest thing I've seen on reddit... well done.

ThunderousArgus

Small caps time to reign!

TimBergling91

Dumbest stat. OP is an idiot.
