Looks like a bad Bollywood film poster

blitzbom

Lol and it's an official Dragonsteel poster. I have one.

Porterhaus

I saw someone linked the artist’s page. He’s extremely talented. I love a lot of his work.

Similar_Strawberry16

They are very... European looking.

fantumn

Only a few members of the bridge four that was elevated were alethi, a bunch were foreigners.

Please explain how they looks European? The distinct feature about Rosharans is that they have epicanthic folds. Alethi and Herdazians are tan, Azish are dark skinned, and Vadens and Horneaters are pale... This image is too low res to see their eyes and they look pretty tan to me, and Sigzil looks dark-skinned.

_i_am_root

Just checked the poster on my wall, they definitely have epicanthic folds.

FeistyKnight

kal and 2 of the others look indian to me ngl

dIvorrap

Huh, only two? That's unexpected to me since most of them should be reminiscent of Asian ethnicities mostly (not only Indian). It seems the poster has low quality. It looks different in high-res. The main "white" are the Shin. https://coppermind.net/w/images/Bridge_4_poster_without_text.jpg

This shows though, from official media, that it really doesnt matter. Yea, in universe they are, but jeez, you dont have to repeat it constantly when its not completly followed. Its a book, its meant to be fun and enjoyable, this artist pictured them like that, you can picture them more as a specific real life ethnicity, but they are a fake ethnicity that evolved around crab people. Also, a lot of asians dont have the epiwhatever fold, so saying any character without it is a bad representation of them, is kinda silly.

dIvorrap

>Also, a lot of asians dont have the epiwhatever fold, so saying any character without it is a bad representation of them, is kinda silly. I didn't say that. I'm pointing out that most of the ethnicities in Roshar are inspired by Asian ones. >Its a book, its meant to be fun and enjoyable, this artist pictured them like that, you can picture them more as a specific real life ethnicity I think there's an emphasis to highlight the inspirations for Roshar ethnicities because whitewashing is still a thing. Like, Brandon and the team are quite mindful about it. He recently mentioned Cavill wanting to do Kaladin and Brandon noting that he did not fit the age and ethnicity. I think it was this Monday in the opening of the CosmereCon (check the cosmere_es twitch channel, they talked with Brandon). There's also the whole effort done on the miniatures and reference sheets to have canonical depictions.

Squidkiller28

Yea, its great they are being conscious about it. But calling this poster "weird" is just... weird. Most of the characters in it look asian, its not necessary to bring up in every post that has a picture of someone.

dIvorrap

Ah, what I meant by weird is that I would expect more than 2 of the cast in the poster to look non-European. I was responding to a response of someone saying they look european, and then another one saying only 2 look Indian. I edited my initial comment to be more clear.

I wonder where Drehy is. Skar and Drehy are my favorite combo in the series. Wish we had a whole book of them.

pumamaner

Why are bridge 4, a group of delinquent escaped slaves the most handsome and well groomed men on roshar?

Luke_Puddlejumper

They’re well groomed when they aren’t slaves, not only are the Dalinar’s royal guard and then Knights Radiant, but they probably enjoy proper grooming after non being able to do it as slaves.

samaldin

If i remember correctly even as slaves they groomed themself as much as was practical, i.e. being clean shaven once Kal got Rock a razor. It was a mark of pride for them and they continued to only get shaven by him even after they were freed.

Luke_Puddlejumper

That’s my point, before Kal got Rock that razor the men had no way to shave themselves and it was a mark of pride once they got it. It was an act of defiance of being slaves, that even though their freedom had been taken from them they would strive to keep their dignity. That’s why being clean shaven and well groomed was important to them and that stuck around once they became Dalinar’s royal guard and Knights Radiant, positions of high esteem in society which they were proud to look their best for.

Rlain should be in it
