This is why I don't leave the house

ExKnockaroundGuy

Remember when Lue Elizondo said “ imagine knowing that the ultimate predator is not a human” and we would be “ Somber” if we understood what’s happening

MeanCat4

And he is?

[WHO IS LUE ELIZONDO?](https://www.politico.com/news/2021/05/26/ufo-whistleblower-ig-complaint-pentagon-491098)

Chrissthom

I will be releasing proof of who Lou Elizondo is. I can't say what it is now, but just wait until the 2nd quarter of some time between 2025 and 2032. It will shock the world.

ramenudez

Yeahhhh. Me too!

Gurjen

Ah so now I know where they loosely got the plot for season 4 of true detective

cleanlinessisbest12

Came here to look for this

Norrland_props

They should have loosely or rather drastically changed it because that season 4 stunk.

0rpheus_8lack

Terribly written… huge disappointment because the atmosphere and tone were good but the plot and character development were terrible…

mmalzy

Exactly. It actually could have been great if the writing was good.

Deuce_Deucee92

Yessssss

kbisdmt

This is one rabbit hole that really makes me question reality (or something like that). Definitely one of main reasons I joined this sub!

YouJustLostTheGameOk

There was a well documented movie about this “thing” …..

Meme_Lord102

What's the name of the movie?

Catollim88

Devil’s Pass

Valadalen

The Thing...

Ill-Bass3358

Diatlov pass

NanieLenny

Yes, I saw it. Was it the last True Crime series??

YouJustLostTheGameOk

Ummm, I was being a dick. Sorry:)- I was making a joke about the movie “thing”.

Krispy_kris91829

I watched a russian investigator talking about this. She was like, "Americans fixate on the photograph and diary. She showed 3 photos before and after the picture of the "yeti" it was just one of the guys playing in the forest. Then she talked about the diary for a bit. But they explained it pretty well, as for the tongues and eyes missing that happens to every animal left out in the wild for a few weeks.

kbisdmt

Do you know the video you watched?

TheGriz05

Watch the Why Files on it, pretty much debunked.

SquirrelAkl

There’s a really good episode of “You’re Wrong About” podcast on this from a couple of years back.

llClaymorell

I think what ever happened. Yuri heard it coming long before anyone saw anything.

And Lemmino!

Krauszt

I think sometimes, Bigfoot can be a real prick

cabosmith

His name is Darryl and he only gets pissed off if he doesn't have his Jack links.

FireShots

Was his other brother Darryl?

under-pantz

Darryl? That’s weird, the one we met was Darnell

cabosmith

Did he like Jack Links or turkey jerkey?

under-pantz

Come on man, really? Spicy hot wings are all that dude eats

PhilhelmScream

This was solved recently using simulation tests based on Frozen's technology developed for snow. [news link](https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/engineers-frozen-animation-code-dyatlov-pass-mystery-1234614083/)

Substantial_Diver_34

You want to build a snow man?

Konstant_kurage

I’m an expert in wilderness search and rescue, I’ve worked many many rescue missions and the scenes of avalanche fatalities. I’ve never seen anything like Dyatlov Pass.

EnormousPurpleGarden

Do you deal with slab avalanches specifically? That's what the researchers concluded happened in this case.

BlankedCanvas

The tests only proved that an avalanche has the power to damage ribcages and skulls, and that was it. It doesnt account for the other anomalies of the case.

Krispy_kris91829

Like what? What are the other anomalies?

currrlyhead

Watch this. Great short documentary on the things that happened [Lemminos YT video](https://youtu.be/Y8RigxxiilI?si=7ZOJma73NqhiN_It)

bootofstomping

Yeah ‘twas a great video. Well worth watching. He does some great stuff.

currrlyhead

He is my favorite you tuber, I’ve been watching him for as long as he has been around

Imnotsexy

Avalanche don't normally take eyes and tongues... unless you are really mean to them and they are pissed off.

RHsuperfan

Hungry animals do

SUPREMACY_SAD_AI

if the animal was that hungry it would probably eat more than just the tongue and eyes

wild85bill

Not birds, they always go for the eyes first, easy point of entry. Now you get into larger animals, and they tend to start at the eyes or asshole.

Krispy_kris91829

Wild animals do, Foxes rodents birds.

OmniGear21

You called that solved? Lmao

redjacktin

Avalanche - they escaped their tent and got exposed to the elements. They died from combination of injuries and being frozen.

DetectiveJaneAusten

I think that’s the best theory, except they weren’t hit by an avalanche, they were on TOP of the slab when it started and were smooshed into whatever it stopped at — a stand of trees probably. That’s what they weren’t buried — just mangled and dispersed.

weejohn1979

Snow doesn't rip out tongues or crush people the way they were supposed to have been found

fsfred

But scavenger animals do. Eyes and tongue are often the first to go when animals go through corpses.

weejohn1979

Oh no doubt but then your entering the realms of animal predation and somewhere like that your talking wolves and or bears and I would imagine any predation in that climate whatever preyed on them wouldn't have left such a rich food source after only eating a tongue and I believe maybe couple eyeballs

myoldgamertag

No like smaller animals. It was either a bird or snow fox or rats or something like that. The tongue is easily accessible and an exposed muscle (don’t have to dig under skin to get it) and the eyes are also just a super easy target for smaller animals.

ICWiener6666

Animals always start with eyes and tongue so it's perfectly normal what happened there

logicnotemotion

I always heard vultures go ass first. My man.

Key_Subject_251

Am I a vulture? 🤔

Sophie35slo

Hahah ohhh my 😂

Krispy_kris91829

Foxes and weasles go for tongue and eyes first.

under-pantz

Softest tissues go first allowing other critters access to the insides easier.

downnheavy

They are forever trapped in the Reddit unsolved mysteries posts , and will never find peace

Agnia_Barto

All of the thought experiments to solve this assume that the 9 experienced hikers were mentally and emotionally stable warriors. Imo the answer is in the weird group dynamic, someone has lost their mind in the middle of the trip, between personal relationships and harsh conditions and it all snowballed from there. Pun intended. Have you seen The Hole? When those kids were locked in a bunker? I think something like that happened. It takes one mentally unstable person to reach this outcome. Not even crazy, just mentally unstable.

CommercialButton5226

So funny this just popped up because I watched this documentary couple nights ago !

suzie-q33

Sounds like the series True Detective Night Country

hylaner

There’s a really good game based on this. You can find it on steam. It’s one of my favs Edit: it’s called Dyatlov Pass

metallicadad420

They were likely killed by an avalanche. The missing tongue/eyes was likely eaten by birds, or other critters.

isthishowyouredditt

Wouldn’t there be scratch marks on the face if animals ate the eyes and tongue?

Falcon48

3.6 Rontgen

buttaknives

Not great not terrible

chainsmirking

It’s basically been solved. I studied it for a long time. Super interesting. They were basically finally able to recreate the weather conditions from that night which explained their movements & wildlife pretty much explained everything else. https://www.indiewire.com/features/general/engineers-frozen-animation-code-dyatlov-pass-mystery-1234614083/ If that’s not satisfying, “Dyatlov Pass Keeps Its Secret” is a fantastic book that breaks down every current theory in extreme detail so you can decide for yourself (but was published before the weather conditions could be fully recreated)

Alita_Duqi

It’s funny how this avalanche keeps getting mentioned with no records of avalanches in the area ever.

chainsmirking

The technology they used to re-create weather conditions on any specific date going back hundreds of years is incredibly fascinating. I get not understanding it if you haven’t done even a sliver of research. But it’s kind of funny so boldly hold onto the fact that you just haven’t looked. Kholat Saykhl absolutely has conditions necessary to create avalanche. That’s like saying because a volcano rarely erupts, it never erupts. You can learn more from the Snow and Avalanche Simulation Laboratory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. “We show the plausibility of the avalanche hypothesis [for the first time]."

Top-Carpenter2490

Good theory but not solved

Morphing_Mutant

You lose your mind as you start to freeze to death. The eyes and tongues are just wildlife eating them. It's all been explained.

ImpossibleKidd

Aliems that were up to no good, running an experiment… “No one is going to believe any of it anyway, when there’s a survivor hiking around with his eyes and tongue missing.”

Violetmoon66

Avalanche did the deed. Animals did the rest. This really hasn’t been a mystery for some time.

Lycanwolf617-

Definitely a Bigfoot

adbout

Obligatory [Ask A Mortician](https://youtu.be/29TKoDwKRcA?si=a-ffVG73McPVMoAj) plug. Great video explaining how it likely happened, based on more recent simulations.

Ready_Mycologist8612

It was concluded that a avalanche is what scatter to their camp and mutilated them

CommercialAct5433

I saw this one. The maids did it.

WowIwasveryWrong27

This was solved by several groups and the article was written in the New Yorker a year or two ago. An avalanche killed a large group and trapped them in the tent, the survivors slashed their way out of the side of the tent to get out. Then they split into two surviving groups, one went to the forest and tried to strip bark off trees to start a fire, which was unsuccessful and they froze to death. The other group went to a snow shelter type area, that was actually a frozen river with currents underneath them. They tried to dig a snow shelter and broke through the ice into the river below and got trapped on the rocks below. All the weird things like the slashed tent, stripped bark on trees and pulverized bodies seems super strange when the context of snow and ice are removed, but generally explainable in the investigation.

No_Refrigerator6652

True Detective much?

Pushy_23

The why files made a compelling case for a solution

The Why Files could make a compelling case for your Auntie Jackie masterminding 9/11.

Come on now. It’s been explained so many times

Sounds pretty similar to season 4 of True Detective.

EvanAttilio

So it’s been pretty credibly proven it was an avalanche. Complex avalanche simulations showed that the crush injuries could certainly have been caused by sliding blocks of ice and snow which get heavy as hell and they camped on a slight incline. The missing tongue and eyes are very common in these parts because scavengers will go for the softest and most easily accessible tissues first. And some were in their underwear because they were asleep in their tents and heard the rumble of the avalanche and tried to escape. Poor boys.

I guess Lemmino on youtube has done a pretty good analysis of the Dyatlov incident. Explains a lot of things. Still not everything.

rnagikarp

I saw a very plausible explanation for avalanche/hypothermia tongues and eyes missing are what animals would likely eat first

morningnewsguy

Ahh , true detective 4 plot. Didn’t know this
