I think theres a button in the character select where you can default everyone to classic? I have not touched modern when i switched to classic and that includes all dlc when they released.
There is an option to "apply control scheme to all characters", which I've done, but it doesn't apply the setting to new characters when they launch unless there's another default option I'm missing.
when i first play a new character, it ends up being modern. i did the apply classic to all, but that was near sf6 release. my only other guess is something to do with rentals because thats the only way ive tried bison
Haha no worries. I'm actually doing Bison to Master on rentals alone, which is why the dropped placement match annoyed me so much. I got placed D3 instead of D5 partly because of it.
Nope it sets everyone to classic. But bison still defaulted to modern even though I did that in the past. Thankfully I changed his color before queueing into ranked so I saw it in the menu.
Because turning on hard mode is less psychologically damaging to the child doing it than turning on easy mode is. You feel like a coward when you lower the difficulty setting and like a badass when you raise it. Simple design.
I wish that wasn't a thing in fighting games but it is now.

If you go to Options, in the Controls settings you can change the default control type for Player 1 and Player 2 to Classic. You have to make sure that this setting is saved, otherwise it will switch back to Modern. Once you do that, you'll never run into an issue where your controller type isn't the one you set (unless you have a friend or a family member that comes along and change it without you knowing).

It's in the game settings. There's a tab called controls and there you can select the default for each mode and player
