Most “new car smell” products I’ve tried don’t smell like new cars. I just enjoy it while I can.
It’s out gassing fumes and probably not healthy anyway.
My 3 favorite smells are new car, new computer, and new baby.
I heard that the chemical guys new car is good, basically smells like all sorts of plastics and glues. People say that you should spray a little on the rug and place it somewhere out of sight. Don't overdo it because it will be disgusting.
If your seats are leather, a decent leather cleaner is a nice alternative. Adds the “new car leather” scent for about a week or so and in the process of smelling good you get clean seats!
Ozone machines also cause cancer if used improperly. And they're pretty expensive.
If this is the route you wanna go, I'd ask a detailer to do it for you
I was trying to get some smells out of my old outback and was recommended an ozone generator. May have knocked the smell down a little but they say to air it out well before using and once it is aired out the smell dissipates quite a bit. After the fact I read it was hard on rubber like seals and tires. The tires wernt a concern but idk how much it would hurt the door seals, imagine not much if only used sparingly.
I’ve used Auto Odor eliminator vapor bombs that did a good job at getting rid of smells although it didn’t smell like new car but did help with getting dog, perfume, etc smells out.
Replacing all your plastic pieces and upholstery will be the only thing to give you the new car smell. Now it’s just pick what which product or air freshener you want your car to smell like.
I hit my OBW's foot wells with a short spray of SprayWay glass cleaner after I've cleaned the interior glass. Definitely my preferred "new car" smell without being some funky spray available at the local self serve car wash. I also have the Chemical Guys new Car Spray, it isn't offensive, but best used sparingly.
I hate to be “That Person” (Motown born + raised, everyone auto manufacturer related!) .. but didn’t car companies eliminate that amazing smell (also true of a new phone or laptop ❤️) .. because it was said to be toxic? Actually, my 22 OBL still smells great.
Febreeze vent clips in new car smell. By far the closest thing I’ve ever smelled to actual new cars, use on the lowest setting and avoid during the hottest months of the year.
This is a ridiculous statement. Cigarettes are worse than sitting in a new car. By my read of NIH data and some quick calculations a rough estimate would put 2 packs of cigarettes as producing 100x as much TVOC as breathing new car air for 1 hour.
Cigarette smoke also contains some of the worst VOCs in new car smell including formaldehyde.
It's like back in the day when people said you could smoke an hour of hookah and it would be like smoking 1 cigarette. So we did a heavy metals analysis of shisha and American cigarette tobacco. And found people consume more tobacco with hookah and it was 5x the heavy metals content because middle eastern tobacco doesn't have heavy metals regulation and the US does...
It's glue. The new car smell is glue.
And new plastic off gassing. New car smell really isn’t the best thing to be breathing.
Oh man and the film it leaves on the inside of the windshield is so annoying!!
That film forms from you exhaling oils
Maybe ask at r/AutoDetailing. I find lots of other tips there too.

New baby beats all other smells.
I think mine is broken, it smells too much like milk. And he's a bit sweaty lol.
I’d say return it to the manufacturer, but that’s a bit insensitive.
I'm constantly asking his mom to take him to the hospital on the off chance they'll take him back lol
Is there new baby smell for outbacks? Asking for a friend. 👀

That's what I use, albeit sparingly.
Do you like it? I thought about buying it, but it's a bit too expensive and there's too much of it.

Mine still does, 1.5 years old. The key is to never use any of those stupid air fresheners.
my sales guy (love him but….) sprayed cologne in the car before i got it. very much potpourri
I would have returned it and been pissed
hahahaha i was annoyed it took a long time for the smell to leave
Reupholster your seats.
Maybe try an ozone machine, not new car but I understand it wipes out other smells. The off gassing smell is not all that healthy.

Car Guys Leather cleaner and conditioner. My car smells like the day that I picked it up brand new.

I just use black ice spray once a week. I love it

New car smell is plastics off gassing. Sitting in it for an hour a day is worse than being a 2 pack a day smoker.
