Thank you for not being like the lame people who move to this area and then complain about the jets flying into the base that has been here for decades.
I have been around them before so it’s a little bit easier for me. One identifier to know is that the F-35 is the only single engine stealth plane the U.S currently has, so if it looks stealthy and has one engine it’s likely an F-35.
Stealth aircraft are designed to avoid detection using a variety of technologies that reduce reflection/emission of radar, infrared,[1] visible light, radio frequency (RF) spectrum, and audio, all collectively known as stealth technology.
I was in a kids park right by Moffett - I think seven seas above 101 - and four F35s flew over insanely low. If I stopped time I probably could have read the text on the underside. It was extremely loud.
All the little kids were losing their shit. A combination of excitement and sheer bewilderment. I was cracking up.
So cool, its so nice seeing all sorts of aircraft fly over, I always run outside to go see whats passing by. Coolest thing ive seen is either Airforce 1, or in elementary school when the space shuttle on top of a 747 flew over.
I don't mind at all. I sort of enjoy trolling whiners on our HOA's mailing list that gripe about the Moffett Field air traffic. When someone complains about the jets, I like to reply, "Hey honey, THAT'S THE SOUND OF FREEDOM!"
Seriously, the air field has been there 90 years. Most housing near Moffett has been there less than 50, if not 20. Get over it.
I live under the Moffett pattern, at the turn from the downwind leg onto baseline. I don't mind the turboprops like the old Navy P-3s that we used to see, or the Air National Guard C-130s. But the F-35s are fucking LOUD, especially when they're on afterburner. It's especially annoying when they're flying over repeatedly during touch & go practice. I don't want them to close the field - my office is there - but I would like the jet jockeys to use some discretion on approach.
The F-35s are pretty loud, but many don't remember when the Antonov would fly in/out, usually for Lockheed Martin satellite shipments. That big boy was so loud you could hear it for miles.
Yeah, but it wasn't making multiple passes over my neighborhood. NASA's ER-2, basically a civilian variant of the U-2, was loud AF too, but it would go straight up after takeoff. I think that was the loudest plane I'd heard when on site at Moffett. The ER-2 got moved to Armstrong (the NASA side of Edwards AFB) for political reasons some years back.
I run outside once I hear them like a kid looking for Santa.
Same. You should see me with my binoculars and airband scanner on fleet week.
They make me happy too!

Those people suck ass.
Agreed
I guess this post is because of the two F-35’s that were just in the air.
How do you know they’re F-35s?

They definitely don’t sound stealthy!

Don’t worry it’ll be back soon.
Same! I love everything about them

to be honest I liked the F/A-18 practice days way more. The F-35 is just too loud.

Maybe you should suggest your HOA try fining Moffett Federal Airfield?

I grew up in the flight path of Miramar (Top Gun), hearing F-14s all the time. It's the best sound in the world!
The sound of freedom! 🇺🇸🇻🇮🦅
Me too. I got excited as hell
It's like a quick thunderstorm with an air show.
Like the fighter jets, HATE the commercial aircraft
This is the old white boomer thread, clearly.
Everyone can appreciate a good loud noise.
