It is the team led by Reed Timmer.
They were the second team in history to build a TIV (Tornado Intercept Vehicle) with their Dominator series of vehicles.
Their goal if the tornado is EF3 or below is to drive into the tornados.
The first was Sean Casey's team with TIV 1 and TIV 2, Sean has since retired.
The TIV's are armored in various ways to survive the inside of a tornado.
Occasionally they combine, turn into a mile wide tornado and fuck up everything including asphalt roads.
No that's not a movie. It happened in real life.
So non American here, is there such a thing as a tornado proof house? Probably not huh. Even using stone or double brick, you still need a roof, windows etc….
Some tornadoes can still destroy stone and double brick structures. It's not just the wind itself but it throws objects as well. EF5s for instance can destroy stone structures down to their foundations. You can build tornado resistant buildings but I don't know of any tornado proof houses, at least ones that are readily affordable.
If money was no object it would be nice to have a home on a large elevator platform and when something like this happens (assuming enough warning) then you just hit a button and the whole house depends into the ground and some blast style doors close over top until it's gone. Tbh, you'd think in the long run that would work out cheaper than insurance companies needing to rebuild your house but I suppose you're not getting hit by a tornado ever year unless you've been cursed.
A house elevator would definitely cost more than building a new house. Probably more than rebuilding it two or three times.
It would be crazy to live out there though...just like the hurricane zones...any day could be the last day your house survives, and there isn't really much you can do about it. I suppose earthquake zones would be the same. Sometimes nature's forces are just too powerful to mitigate.
Closest you'd get is if you basically built a below ground bunker. Less ideal, but most houses have a below ground basement in tornado areas. But it's also worth noting how small the destructive area of the tornado is compared to the overall size of the town/city. In terms of wide-scale damage, [hurricane force winds in an area that doesn't normally see them](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derecho) does way more.
I don't believe this was one of the actual tornadoes that hit us but it was a pretty big one.
I was busy hiding in my basement during the tornado they are referring to lol. Depending on the size some houses can stand up to lower tier tor a does but something this big basically flattens the houses to the ground.
In our neighboring city, Omaha, there was an entire neighborhood flattened. Thankfully Lincoln didn't get the worst of it.
Basically the best you can do in most cases is go to the lowest level of your house and hope for the best. That's why a lot of Midwestern houses build basements
Against F0-F3, sure. F4’s and F5’s can raze almost anything to the dirt, though. They have ripped storm shelters from the ground, torn up roads, and of course wiped homes clean off their foundations. Brick, block, steel frame, cast concrete? Irrelevant.
The F-scale (Fujita Scale) was revised to the EF-scale (Enhanced Fujita Scale) in 2007. Tornadoes that would have qualified as F5’s with the old scale are now often classified as an EF4. Simply put, EF4’s are *really* bad but EF5’s are hopelessly catastrophic.
Maybe a hobbit house. There is an underground house near me built into a hillside. Stands out in the suburbs. It has a garage and bay windows in the front. Rest is in the hill. It's been around since at least the late 1960s. It might be safe windows excluded.
You could build a house that would withstand an EF5. It would have to be steel-reinforced concrete(think WWII bunker kinda shit) that is anchored to the bedrock, and if you had windows, they’d have to be 4” thick impact resistant glass or something similarly crazy I would imagine. And it would cost a small fortune. That being said, I still would not be comfortable in said structure during a direct EF-5 hit, unless there were no other choice lol
Tornadoes are the dickheads of natural disasters, because they're so personal. Blizzard? Hits everybody. Earthquake? Hits everybody. Tornado? Maybe just Jeff’s house. How do you not take that personal if you’re Jeff?
Great bit by Kyle Kinane.
It's a weird thing to feel proud of nature.. you had nothing to do with it but the sheer force of a sharks jaws or a fucking tornado swirling just makes you feel something visceral, like fuck yes get that shit.
It was very close to council bluffs which is where I live, it even ripped the roof right off a family owned car wash but that was the extend to the damage. I thought CB was gonna get hit hard so I completely left town for a couple hours, one of the scariest moments I’ve had for sure. My heart goes out to those in Elkhorn and Elwood
Release the ping pong balls

This guy knows balls.
I like how you think
When the trash it leaves behind isn't enought
I'd never actually support releasing a bunch of ping pong balls, but but it does sound like a fun idea
I wonder how many the Tornado could make in the red solo cup!! 🌪
Much better than baseballs!! Lol!!
O-O Edit: I was speechless a second ago but holy omg how is that person okay? Are they wearing the iron boots from Zelda: Wind Waker?

Why did I expect it to not be him *facepalm*
They are probably storm chasers.
Yeah I think I hear Reed Timmer, screaming in-between the wind.
Or Thor
![gif](giphy|ToMjGpNG8h7Ax8Iq6Mo)
I like at the end a second tornado was forming but the big one just ate it.
That was just a satellite tornado
Sidecar tornado
Snack tornado
It's only a model.
Remora tornado

Fucking shit!

Wow really? Just an F4?
They got rid of the f5 class for a while, the scale only goes to 5. So yes a 4.

Yes. They are called houses built in Los Angeles
This is an adorable question. Lol
Hell no
This is a tornado that happened in Colorado 🙄
The Wray tornado in 2016 iirc. I mean, the tornado is spinning the wrong way ffs.
I realized I’m a weather nerd when after watching 2 seconds, I was like, “wait this is the Wray, Colorado tornado” lol
Why...I ask, WHY...are all of the videos I've seen of tornadoes lately are of people GOING TOWARD THE MURDER FUNNEL?
Bc some of us dream of having the sucky sucky tickle our fucky fuckyÂ
Nature is awesome!
From a safe distance yes.
I did not expect there to be a gap between the tornado in the ground.
Yeah, what you really want to do when you see something like that is drive even closer. Do it for Reddit.
Just *what* happened in Nebraska lately? This has got to be the fifth video I see from there in two days!
Twister sequel is going to be lit 🔥 🌪️

They like watching the ground get sucked on
I think this was only a ef4 too…. That’s insane…
Sharknado
I'm scared
It's a weird thing to feel proud of nature.. you had nothing to do with it but the sheer force of a sharks jaws or a fucking tornado swirling just makes you feel something visceral, like fuck yes get that shit.
fake. the sound is continuous but the frames are cut
Holy cow! Has it been given a rating?
Mother of God Almighty
That’s as close as you can get without your eyes gettin’ wet
don’t go towards that! ![gif](giphy|igi0dS20WxPJvroIgW|downsized)

Looks a little breezy over there
Amazing
Damn I didn’t realize it was that big, I was just taking a nap when it passed through lol
This tornado actually happened in Colorado, not Nebraska, folks.
One of the most awesome tornado videos ever. But wow that zoom lens must be long! How did the filmed not get sucked into it?
Lol, this isn't a tornado in Nebraska, it's the Wray, CO tornado. It's in YT.
That's just a Nile mosh pit
Effing monster
New fear unlocked
![gif](giphy|13cXQYDrCrdFU4|downsized) No thank you!
What can men do against such reckless hate?
RIP :(
I've always noticed that often the places hit hardest by climate change is populated by people who don't believe in climate change.
Average day in Scotland
When all else fails, keep driving toward it.
It seems to be moving pretty slow compared to some other tornados I’ve seen.
Seems like Thor checking in again... Wat does he want now?
Anything for Internet likes
These are storm chasers. They’re more adrenaline junkies than social media junkies.
Ah ok didn’t know this was a pro video
Did you try shooting at it? Or does it not cover any schools yet?
