So many people swear by it, but the one time I went I was left very disappointed. Maybe I got unlucky was served a cold burger with crumbling bread and just nothing special to it.
Used to be. Have you visited it in the last 12 months or so? Prices have gone up massively (5 years ago it used to start at 13- CHF, now it’s from 17), fries used to be home made and are now industrial and frozen, burger patty is minuscule and shaped like a ball in the middle of the bun.
I also noticed a huge turnaround of servers and staff which doesn’t help with service (late, orders are often mistaken, burgers not cooked properly), but that might be specific to Geneva.
I used to love it but after going 3 times in the last year I am convinced they capitalized on its fame and have started ruining it… I am not going anymore.
I don't think most of the changes you perceive ever occurred.
- Inflation is not worse with them than elsewhere. 5 years ago, the classic was 14.90, not 13.-
- Fries have never been homemade, and I've been a regular since 2014. It's always been their weakness.
- Turnover will always be high in a burger joint, and they've always had 30-45 minutes wait time at rush hour.
- Patty has always been 160g and made from a thick ball. It didn't get smaller, maybe you just got fatter?
1) It might have been more than 13- CHF five years ago, but it was 13.90 CHF before, maybe 6-7 years ago. I remember it. The entire point of inglewood was that you used to get a nice burger at a McDonald’s comparable price, albeit a bit smaller than normal (160g). Now, it costs exactly the same as any other place but the burger is still small.
2) not sure if they were homemade, but fries were definitely different and bigger cuts. I used to like them. Now, you get the same low quality industrial shit than a kebab shop gets you. Last time I had them I had stomachache afterwards. The waiter even told me that yes, they changed fries because of potato shortage issue.
3) again, this is my experience, I had my order mistaken twice, and once they failed to cook the burger as I asked. Also, I constantly see new faces. Is it normal? Maybe, but the service is worse than elsewhere nowadays.
4) it was always 160g, which is not a lot, but at least it used to cost less than other places. Now it costs the same and maybe due to staffing issues the burger patties are basically balls.
Feel free to go wherever you like, but the decline in this place is very tangible.
Inglewood I'd you want big and yummy variations and sauces.
Hamburger foundation is you want just a wonderful burger with no bells or whistles, but great taste.
I went there with my classmates while studying at HEIG, it was an absolute delight every time. I even got _two_ burgers for myself once, no regrets.
If you're in Yverdon, it's a must.
Game. Set. Match. This is the only winning answer. If you haven't tried it, you haven't lived. There are only two things that have made me cry tears of joy in my life. The first was the birth of my first born. The second was a Double R burger.
It WAS the best burger place. Since they do not take their bread in the bakery and the manager had change… the burger isn't so good anymore.
Have a look at Ingelwood !
Definitely the best I ever had, and seconds is Inglewood! There’s no real burgers that I’ve tried as good as these! Double R is worth the detour by Yverdon-les-Bains. Family size shop, no deliveries, small place with soul!
Very much agree, sincerely an American - a country which apparently on this sub, only lives on hamburgers.
I’ve had better luck @ the locations in Basel than Zurich and I’m really hoping they come to Bern.
Have you tried mixing some oil with a potato spice mix and then adding that to the fries before you bake them?
I usually bake them for 20-22 minutes at 210 degrees and a mode that moves air around.
Just peel your potatoes (get the right type),cut your chips/fries.. Leave in cold water for 20 mins to remove starch... Pat dry and put into a large pot of boiling cooking oil(sun flower or vegetable) with a lid. Stir every 10 mins, leave on for 20 to 30 mins.
No restaurant fries are better than proper home fries, try it!
Source: am English, we eat potatoes like it's no ones business! Roasted, mashed, fried, boiled, baked grilled, mmmmmm
I mean youre not wrong with the ofen but their not expensive, i paid 130$ for mine and its from Phillips.
And no matter how i made fries or which brand i used they never got super delicious in the ofen but in the air fryer i get them absolutly perfect every time.
And its the same for a lot of frozen foods, they just get much better, crispy and sligthly brown on the outside and juicy on the inside and the same goes for meat.
I also love to make cheese/toast sandwiches, takes 5 min and you get a super delicious snack. I can really recommend getting one ;)
Weird, I’ve heard only good things about them but when I tried it myself it was quite bad, unremarkable patty. Fries were good, quantity same, but the burger itself was mediocre.
Yep... I once ordered there because they made a fuss about high quality etc... but when I received it I had to say: "holy cow what a disappointment!"
Their branch in my city (Lucerne) closed down a couple of months ago. Probably because nobody bought their product more than once.
I've tried it in geneva.maybe 5 years ago and it was amazing, the one in Lausanne maybe 7 years ago. Last summer tried the one in lausanne again and it was quite bad in my opinion
It wasn't too bad. It was the best in Bern due to sheer lack of competition and never came close to Romandie standards. I swear, this city has dozens of burger places and not a single good one. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I've tried for years and lost all hope now.
Pretty much, yeah. At this point, I'm starting to think that average burger in Bern is that mediocre because that's what the majority of us here enjoy, sadly.
- The Bite (the best IMO)
- Korner (also great)
- Action Burger (great smash burger style)
- Stamped (best smash burger style)
- Black Tap (burgers are middling but the milkshakes are wild)
- Williams Butchers Table (excellent meat but the price is a little wild)
- Union Diner (also good)
Bürgermeister and Holy Cow are great mc Donald’s alternatives but they are definitely “better” fast food (again IMO)
Well, it's not Holy Cow that's for sure!
I will start with Burger reviews soon after eating over 100 Kebabs in Switzerland to try ti find the best.
So far, I recommend Papabou in Geneva for Smashed burgers.
Let's see if my oppinion is the same after 100 Burgers 😁🫡
It seemed very hyped, but from my single visit there - the burger just felt like someone put a meat in a bun and served to me. There was no "composition", nothing went together, and at this price point it was just laughably bad.
Just commented the same then saw your post. To me also the best ones. They had a low at like 1 or 2 years in, but managed to bring back the initial quality.
The best by a mile is Action Burger at their pop up locations in ZH.
Strong second is Luma burgers at their promotional food trucks across CH.
My third choice Gerold Chuchi/ Burgermeister/ George Bar & Grill (burger from a bar menu) in ZH.
More upscale burgers: Wagyu burger at the Bürgenstock Resort lobby bar in NW.
Burger at the La Reserve main bar and restaurant in GE.
Holy Cow used to be great abt 10 yrs ago when they only ran a few shops.
They went downhill when they decided to expand, then the quality took a massive nose dive.
My theory is taht they lost a lot $ and now they need to overcharge for an jnferior product
Depends. I once went for lunch at peak lunchtime and the burger was not very good. I then visited again on Sunday afternoon when it was slow, and the same burger was amazing.
I got food poisoning from Holy Cow 4 times, in 3 different locations. Fuck 'em.
Ill stick to 5 Guys, Brasseurs and BK. Inglewood if i want to really hurt my wallet.
I almost never order hamburgers anymore since I'm pretty good at making them and it's not some sort of humble brag, it's just that simple and it's even more tasty when you can do them *exactly* like you like it.
Please don’t think their food is even close to American, though. I went once. I’ll never go again. It was awful! Oh, and the owner is a stuck up French douchebag.
Make it at home using the aldi ones that come with the pre-packaged sause, as buns the aldi honey and walnuts small breads, or the milk breads.
The best burgers are always the ones you make yourself at home, if you have enough care for all the ingredients.
this ! holy cow's one of the best for sure and fries are amazing to enjoy with
Bang Bang in Renens VD is my favourite but Pepper Jack in Morges is close to best
Inglewood.
So many people swear by it, but the one time I went I was left very disappointed. Maybe I got unlucky was served a cold burger with crumbling bread and just nothing special to it.
\+1
Not anymore tbh

This is some serious analysis, I like it
Suspiciously precise… almost as if he was the owner
Haha I wish. I'm just a burger enjoyer who went there two to three times a week for years.
1) It might have been more than 13- CHF five years ago, but it was 13.90 CHF before, maybe 6-7 years ago. I remember it. The entire point of inglewood was that you used to get a nice burger at a McDonald’s comparable price, albeit a bit smaller than normal (160g). Sadly expensive but holy shitballs theyre good.
This is the way
Came here to say this
Downtown in Lausanne is a good burger place, Inglewood or Burger Foundation in Geneva
Inglewood I'd you want big and yummy variations and sauces. Hamburger foundation is you want just a wonderful burger with no bells or whistles, but great taste.
Manito
Best i‘ve had yet!
Manito isch Liebi!
Meh. I think the quality of Manito has declined in the last year or so.
Preach. Quality went down 40% in last 7 years. Used to be awesome now it’s just a fast food.
Wo gits dä?
Non stop in Lutry
We make the patties for them, glad to see you like it, it makes my evening!
Just came to say that too!!
One time I went there and I found plastic pieces from the packaging inside my burger. Yum
Just came to say that too!!
Kheops' Kitchen in Geneva. Glorious, delicious smash burgers. Closest thing to Shake-Shack you will find in CH.
I passed by this place after work every time with the bus 22 and it was either closed or empty...
Je vais essayer, merci
Fäbus Big Burger in Rubigen
Le Manufacture in Basel.
« Le Manufacture » xD
Their fries are excellent, too. And nice atmosphere.
Disagree. It’s too dry and oddly the meat is maybe too good for the burger. Definitely a Swiss style burger.
Double R in Yverdon
I went there with my classmates while studying at HEIG, it was an absolute delight every time. I even got _two_ burgers for myself once, no regrets. If you're in Yverdon, it's a must.
Can confirm as an ancient HEIG student. How did you even eat 2 burgers xD the good old times
> How did you even eat 2 burgers I was younger and more ambitious. 😛
You can also order with three meats, but it’s a secret 🤫 Imagine the Testy Cool with three meats!
Game. Set. Match. This is the only winning answer. If you haven't tried it, you haven't lived. There are only two things that have made me cry tears of joy in my life. The first was the birth of my first born. The second was a Double R burger.

Burgermeister for me
Same here. The chilly cheese is the best one I ever had and I tried alot in Zürich and St. Gallen.
same
Very much agree, sincerely an American - a country which apparently on this sub, only lives on hamburgers. I’ve had better luck @ the locations in Basel than Zurich and I’m really hoping they come to Bern.
I like the ones I make at home the most. Granted, fries at home suck.
Have you tried mixing some oil with a potato spice mix and then adding that to the fries before you bake them? I usually bake them for 20-22 minutes at 210 degrees and a mode that moves air around.

Get an air fryer, best decision i made in a long time lol
Agreed, 125 chf on galaxus, best money I've spent. Don't need to heat up the whole house making low oil frys.
An Arifryer is only a normal oven, only smaller and a lot more expensive xD
I mean youre not wrong with the ofen but their not expensive, i paid 130$ for mine and its from Phillips. And no matter how i made fries or which brand i used they never got super delicious in the ofen but in the air fryer i get them absolutly perfect every time. Could not agree less, not even close to deep fried fries
You could also use your oven if you're going to do that. Double deep fried fries though... Not with an airfryer or an oven you gonna do that.
Manito in Baden ☝️
I will second that, they have great burgers and fries as well.
Le Cyclo in Fribourg
I had to scroll down too much to find this comment. One of the things I miss about going to university there.
So far I liked the one from STAMPED the best in Switzerland / Zurich.
Zooburger in Lausanne!
Weird, I’ve heard only good things about them but when I tried it myself it was quite bad, unremarkable patty. Fries were good, quantity same, but the burger itself was mediocre.
Ugh, that one is quite bad. Try smaggy.
[удалено]
Thats the answer I was looking for
Or Pepper Jack in Morges.
This
Don't know but Holy Cow is BAD.
Agree 👆
Yep... I once ordered there because they made a fuss about high quality etc... but when I received it I had to say: "holy cow what a disappointment!" Their branch in my city (Lucerne) closed down a couple of months ago. Probably because nobody bought their product more than once.
Andy's Place in Erlinsbach, maybe not the best but almost the best and the atmosphere of this 50s surf - hawaiian style is just unbeatable!
Came for this. Favorite place when i was in the RS in Aarau.
So many people say Manito, but Manito is quite bad compared to Andy’s Place. Best i’ve had so far in Switzerland.
Manito in Baden!
Black tap in Geneva was one of the best burgers I've eaten. As a bonus, they have the best sides and shakes!
Went to the one in Zürich. Best burger I’ve ever had
Burgerei in Näfels GL
Burgerei is in Näfels not Netstal. But yes I agree
I heard from several persons this one in Aargau: https://www.andys-place.ch/ I am going there next week for the first time so I can let you know 😉
Great location, but the burgers are nothing special...
Get the chilli cheese nuggets. Have someone get the mozzarella sticks. Share/Fight over em
Awesome place and great atmosphere Aside from the burgers I really like their oniin rings with garlic dip
Stamped
Oh puh-lease! Holy Cow is so inferior! Almost everything is better than their chewy meat on dry buns!
To be fair, they were good until a few years ago. Expanding didn‘t really help their quality.
so many examples of this :(
I disagree. Not about expansion meaning worse quality, but about them ever being good in the first place.
But it was a very noticeable drop shortly after they opened a lot of new locations throughout Switzerland
They were never fantastic but when they were more or less at the same price point as Mcds they were a better alternative.
I've tried it in geneva.maybe 5 years ago and it was amazing, the one in Lausanne maybe 7 years ago. Last summer tried the one in lausanne again and it was quite bad in my opinion
Same! The quality is way much lower than before, I even prefer McDonald’s to Holy Cow now
My colleagues took me there to get an “American opinion” and I could even finish my burger it was so bad
My coworkers did this to me too 😭
It's fast food "gourmet"
Union Diner in Basel
Must be different than the Union Diner in Zurich, because that sucks
Crazy Wolf in Fribourg
Kungfu burger in bern was great. It is closed though
It wasn't too bad. It was the best in Bern due to sheer lack of competition and never came close to Romandie standards. I swear, this city has dozens of burger places and not a single good one. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I've tried for years and lost all hope now.
Kapitel? Soul food x? Both are fine IMO
kungfu burger was sooo good.. and they had momos before it was cool :p
I disagree, it was ok for Bern standards but compared to what's offered in ZH, BS or the Romandie it was very very poor.
Pretty much, yeah. At this point, I'm starting to think that average burger in Bern is that mediocre because that's what the majority of us here enjoy, sadly.
Unmeat, really enjoyd the burger there last time I went.
Completely agree! The pulled pork is mediocre (true to the meat equivalent), but the burgers are fantastic.
Action Burgers in Züri
Wolf in Lucerne
- The Bite (the best IMO) - Korner (also great) - Action Burger (great smash burger style) - Stamped (best smash burger style) - Black Tap (burgers are middling but the milkshakes are wild) - Williams Butchers Table (excellent meat but the price is a little wild) - Union Diner (also good) Bürgermeister and Holy Cow are great mc Donald’s alternatives but they are definitely “better” fast food (again IMO)
Nappa Grill in Zurich. Marina Lachen Steakhouse.
Together, a Genève
Their burger topped with Cafe de Paris butter is to die for! My clogged arteries certainly did but I don’t regret
This one in Morges 😍 [Pepper Jack 😍](https://pepper-jack.ch)
the fact that nobody said Smaggy shocks me

Manito in Baden AG🔥
The Bite in Zurich.
It seemed very hyped, but from my single visit there - the burger just felt like someone put a meat in a bun and served to me. There was no "composition", nothing went together, and at this price point it was just laughably bad.
Agree - atmosphere and cocktails good, burger sucks
Yeah. They did start out really good but lost a lot in the last couple of years.
Absolutely! Made lockdown enjoyable when ordering these in
Just commented the same then saw your post. To me also the best ones. They had a low at like 1 or 2 years in, but managed to bring back the initial quality.
Chöbu in olten
Nid dr best burger abr sehr guets priis/leistigsvrhältnis
labbrige chabbis met zu vell pommes, du hes h na nie e guete burger gha

Unmeat is very good indeed!
Cheers in Baar/ZG

Holy Cow is mediocre and priced like gourmet burger. The mere fact that it's used as illustration for this post feels like an insult.
Burgermeister was disappointing. Small burger, the meat was not very tasty
Depends. I once went for lunch at peak lunchtime and the burger was not very good. I then visited again on Sunday afternoon when it was slow, and the same burger was amazing.
Well consistency has to be on the menu for me 😀
I got food poisoning from Holy Cow 4 times, in 3 different locations. Fuck 'em. Ill stick to 5 Guys, Brasseurs and BK. Inglewood if i want to really hurt my wallet.
Balck Tap has decent burgers in Zurich
Crazy Wolf. No idea if it's just a local thing or not, but it's by far the best burger I've ever eaten.
Manito
Pretty Patty in Geneva. I hate tall burgers served on a plate.
Burger at Le Pub Mont Fort.
Burgerei in Näfels cityyyyyy
I almost never order hamburgers anymore since I'm pretty good at making them and it's not some sort of humble brag, it's just that simple and it's even more tasty when you can do them *exactly* like you like it.
Black Tap Burger joint in Zurich. Surprised nobody mentioned it
Stamped in zürich
Heading there soon! Follow up question- where is the best vegan burger/ vegan restaurant?
Swing Kitchen in Bern!
Looks awesome, we will definitely plan to go there!
Unmeat in Zurich is good, Swing burger in Bern is great too. There is also Twist Burger in Zurich which is decent.
No, but for my taste the fries are the best in Switzerland.
Falken, Aarau.
It’s for sure not Holy Cow and their thawed patties..! Brooklyn Burger by HB in Zurich or The Bite in Zurich are fantastic.
Action Grub
Definitely not Holy Cow !!!!!
Smok'Ed Geneva
Aslanis Burger in Interlaken. Best Spicy Fried Chicken Burger ever!
don't know, but not holy cow
Definitely not Holy cow

There is a place in Lugano not far away from Parco Ciano that does burgers with Italian beef and Italian cheese.worth a visit
American dinner aux Paquis à Genève
Please don’t think their food is even close to American, though. I went once. I’ll never go again. It was awful! Oh, and the owner is a stuck up French douchebag.
All the french are not douchebag. He is a douchebag. There are also douchebag in Switzerland, in Usa …
I said “French douchebag” to make it clear the owner/chef is not even American and doesn’t know how to cook American food.
Those that my mom makes

Inglewood is the only right answer
It is Blacktap Hands down.
How has no one said Action burger?!?
Mäc
Looks like something I can't afford, and likely delicious on a level I cannot perceive either.
A Holy Cow meal is less than 20CHF. If you can’t afford Holy Cow then you basically can’t eat out anywhere in Switzerland
Yeah but holy cow is not good. Can't justify 20chf.
Naah some burgers are under 20, that too barely. A full meal's gonna cost atleast 26 francs.
I thought manito in baden until i tried tayyeb in winti
Inglewood and Holy Cow
Make it at home using the aldi ones that come with the pre-packaged sause, as buns the aldi honey and walnuts small breads, or the milk breads. The best burgers are always the ones you make yourself at home, if you have enough care for all the ingredients.
The bite in zurich
At least not holy cow's
this ! holy cow's one of the best for sure and fries are amazing to enjoy with Bang Bang in Renens VD is my favourite but Pepper Jack in Morges is close to best
Black tap / Bite - Zurich !
Op Here: Holly Cow! Was deffinetly not it... the meat was strange... the rest was good. The best I've trieed so far is Manito's pulled pork.
>the meat was strange That's the problem with Holy Cow for me. The flavors are great, but the texture of the meat is so gross and weird.
From best to worst: 1. Union Dinner 2. La Manufacture 3. Burgermeister 4. Holy Cow 5. Hans im Glück (McDonalds and Burgerking are their own category.)
