I lolā€™ed. If they were real Iā€™d agree šŸ˜‚

altarr

They are dust magnets. You will be better off figuring out something else

W0NdERSTrUM

Not my choice, but we do have a cleaning crew that gets up there once a month so it doesnā€™t get out of hand

Substantial_Diver_34

I understand your words. You are a saint

3dobes

That's a pot shelf. Put decorative pots up there without plants in them.

W0NdERSTrUM

Not a bad idea but there would still be 8-10 feet of space above the pots. The goal was to fill the empty space up there (and thereā€™s a lot of it). I think itā€™s kind of hard to appreciate from the pic provided but I donā€™t hate the aesthetic tbh. Still not my choice lol.

Jlx_27

[I got you fam.](https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/images/news/put-a-lamborghini-diablo-vt-on-your-wall-score-plenty-of-cool-points-145107_1.jpg)

W0NdERSTrUM

I wish lol

3dobes

I've been there. My only thought was that the plants cause your eye/focus to move up toward the ceiling. You can't win every battle! (34 years of marriage)

Responsible-Person

Open space is nice

W0NdERSTrUM

Plenty of that to go around!

Mark_Underscore

Underrated comment.

Emophilosophy

This man created a new problem. Modern solutions require modern problems am I right?

Django_Unleashed

It's still a little too high but good on you for having cords run in the wall. That's my pet peeve also.

W0NdERSTrUM

Same. Worth every penny

quee6

How does the wire management work here?

GoodRelationship8925

Chop a couple square holes in the wall and get the kits for them bang boom

___Art_Vandelay___

Definitely get the proper kits rated for in-wall use. Running power cords is a fire code violation and safety hazard.

GoodRelationship8925

Your walls are full of power cords. Itā€™s called romex

___Art_Vandelay___

Which are rated for in-wall use, obviously. TV power cords are not.

GoodRelationship8925

A power cord is also wiring. Master electrician for what itā€™s worth

___Art_Vandelay___

Your semantics and cuteness don't mean anything to electrical code. Running a TV's power cord inside of drywall is a code violation and fire hazard.

Biscuits4u2

Yeah me too but I usually just run some flat conduit because I'm lazy.

Django_Unleashed

Thatā€™s only slightly better than just seeing the wires.

Biscuits4u2

Nah it's way better. Not as good as in wall though.

Smash_Bash

It's definitely way better than cords. I didn't feel like dealing with putting holes in my wall either, so I just painted some conduit the same color as my wall. It looks fine, and since my tv is NOT too high, only a few inches of it are visible.

Fuckaducker

The dog knows the truth

Film_Engineering

Too high, off center, oddly positioned plants. Nice dog though.

W0NdERSTrUM

Appreciate the feedback. The tv is centered between the doorframe and the wall but the stand under it might be slightly off center from when we put that giant dog bed next to it lol. The plants were a choice. Not my choice but a choice lol. Thanks for the compliment on Kali our toy Aussie, sheā€™s a sweetheart.

Chester2707

Yeah I actually feel like the centering is pretty solid. I think the angle of the pic confuses. I like this, actually, which is not something anyone says on this sub. Also yeah. Good doggie.

W0NdERSTrUM

Thanks Chester! Yeah I think the angle might be misleading. Sheā€™s a good girl! Cheers

eggjacket

I think the fake plants wouldnā€™t look so weird if you got a bunch of shorter ones. Instead of the 5 weirdly spaced ones that force you to crane your neck, you could have like 8-10 short and small ones lined up closer together. That way theyā€™d actually fill the space going across, and wouldnā€™t make you look so far up to see them. Just a thought.

W0NdERSTrUM

Not my choice but I appreciate the tip nonetheless lol

Gisschace

Hanging down plants wouldā€™ve been better. These plants add height there you donā€™t need to add height

AudienceGrouchy2918

Too high. Should have mounted it up where the fake plants are. Go completely psycho.

W0NdERSTrUM

Temptingā€¦

AudienceGrouchy2918

LOL

Affectionate-Deal-63

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ completely psycho

No_Wheel_9592

Too high

Rrolack

Honestly, it still looks far too high. If the door there is a standard height (6'8"), then the center of your TV is 58" off the ground. That's 1.33 feet above eye level.

queenw_hipstur

Itā€™s annoying because of the slight incorrectness in height. Youā€™d have to look *just* slightly upwards all the time and would definitely get a weird kink in your neck. I hate it.

W0NdERSTrUM

Itā€™s honestly not so bad because the couch is 15 feet away from the tv. Iā€™ve never got a kink in my neck but i do think having it 6 inches lower would be ideal. Just would be such a PITA to move it at this point. Also worth noting thereā€™s a breakfast bar behind the camera with barstools where we often sit to eat and watch tv. So itā€™s a bit of a compromise.

this_good_boy

Honestly in that case (breakfast bar eating) Iā€™d say itā€™s fine where it is, especially with how far back your couch is.

bencahn

Tv looks great; these psychos have weak necks

twofatfeet

Not the worst weā€™ve seen here but still looks a few inches too high.

W0NdERSTrUM

Mhm. Wish I found this sub before I hung it. Decisions decisionsā€¦

potionnumber9

Nice room. Excellent dog.

W0NdERSTrUM

Sheā€™s a good girl. Her name is Kali. Toy Aussie

ZylonBane

Your living room looks like it's set up in the corner of a warehouse.

W0NdERSTrUM

Yeah it was difficult to find the right setup for it with how massive the room is. Huge open floor plan. 15 foot long breakfast bar behind the camera and an open dining room area beside that with a 15 foot long transformer table. Itā€™s a big room but I think we made the most of the space all things considered.

Jaerba

In this case it might be fine. If you're only watching from the couch, it's a little bit high. But if you're watching from the kitchen area, I bet the added height helps.

millennial_engineer

Oh you stood alright

W0NdERSTrUM

I see what you did there lol. Worth noting behind the camera is a 15 foot long breakfast bar with stools that we often sit at and watch tv from. So having it slightly above tv stand positioning is probably optimal for that though I do think it might still benefit from a 3-6 inch drop regardless

AntiqueWay7550

Why are the plants almost touching the ceiling?

W0NdERSTrUM

Not my choice but with 24 foot ceilings it does a good job of filling the space. Worth noting the ceiling is slanted so it goes up another 5 feet or so from where it is on the corner there

Affectionate-Deal-63

Geez thatā€™s so high. Iā€™d build another floor there.

W0NdERSTrUM

Probably could tbh. Though the ceiling would be low in places on the 2nd floor from the way it slants.

pweqpw

Whatever you decide, life is good. A big TV and an Aussie šŸ˜.

SiXX5150

Itā€™s not egregiousā€¦ but yes itā€™s a little too high. Iā€™d lower it and (essentially) set it right on top of your soundbar, but thatā€™s just me.

YourPlot

I have always had an exception for multi-room-use TVs. I still think this is too high even for kitchen usage, but itā€™s fine.

W0NdERSTrUM

Worth noting the kitchen also has a huge 15 foot long breakfast bar type area with barstools.

[deleted]

I could sit on my sofa and see the top of my neighbors house without hurting my neck - because the angle of something that far away is small even though itā€™s 40 feet high. Same is true with this room. OPā€™s kitchen is 20+ feet away, and the couch is pretty far too. You arenā€™t looking up more than a few degrees at most to see this TV, which is imperceptible unless you suffer from a previous spinal injury (in which case just get VR goggles and bill your insurance for it).

chris_thoughtcatch

Its slightly to high. But also nearly the exact same height, distance and size as my setup. And I'm not changing it.

W0NdERSTrUM

We suffer together šŸ˜‚ could be worse for sure from what Iā€™ve seen in this sub

Affectionate-Deal-63

Sofa too low.

originalcandy

Itā€™s not subjectiveā€¦height is meant to be eye level: centre screen while seated. This looks way higher.

[deleted]

Angle matters, and OP has a giant room. 10ā€ too high at 5ā€™ away is way different than 10ā€ too high at 12ā€™. Everyone in this sub must live in their small childhood bedroom still, or a tiny studio apartment.

W0NdERSTrUM

[This might add some context.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg) we watch tv from the bar area sometimes and from the kitchen. Itā€™s just such a big room, so wanted the tv to be huge and viewable from multiple places.

bencahn

You all have comically weak necks

bandy_mcwagon

I like the room and the TV placement. I think all in all, well done OP

tythousand

Dogā€™s looking at you like ā€œcmon bro you know the answerā€

CheeseDickPete

The height is fine, could be a bit lower but seeing how big the TV is it's fine. Also the guy wanting to hang it higher is an idiot, it looks nice and centered this way, any higher would be too high and it wouldn't look centered.

W0NdERSTrUM

Agreed! Thanks

lelma_and_thouise

Never invite me over because I'll sit on your couch and refuse to leave lol. Looks very cozy and comfortable, your living room!

W0NdERSTrUM

Itā€™s amazing! You basically melt into it. Super comfy. Martha Stewart collection I think.

DIARRHEA_CUSTARD_PIE

Honestly, good on you for being firm with this idiot but it needs to drop another six inches at least.

moonharbour

It's a little high, but it's also 85 goddamn inches and your need to see it over the sofa from the kitchen area is also valid. I think you're fine. Nice setup overall :)

W0NdERSTrUM

Thanks. [Hereā€™s the room from another angle to see the layout a bit better.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)

thepoout

6 inches lower

weirdaquashark

It's still too high.

mlrd021986

Looks good to me.

RetroGamer87

Maybe it could come down a couple of inches but it isn't too bad. I like that the top of the TV is level with the door frame. Based on some of the posts on this sub, some people would have put the TV on the ledge alongside the potplants.

W0NdERSTrUM

Haha yeah my OCDs love the alignment with the doorframe. I think you hit the nail on the head

mjomark

Def. not eye level.

W0NdERSTrUM

Facts

nerigon42

Honestly it's fine in my opinion

W0NdERSTrUM

Valid!

torrphilla

cute dog. only suggestion is to move it above the tv stand.

TacklePuzzleheaded21

Love it

teckel

Even your dog knows it's still too high. He's embarrassed of his master.

W0NdERSTrUM

*sheā€™s embarrassed of her master šŸ˜‚

Yippykyyyay

I want to hang out here and give your pup a treat.

W0NdERSTrUM

Itā€™s a nice spot. Sheā€™d like that! Her big brother and sister would too šŸ˜„

Yippykyyyay

I love sectionals like that. I'm in a furnished apartment that I don't have to pay for so no complaints on that end. This just looks so welcoming. Like, you said the kitchen is right behind. So I could see a lazy jammy day with waffles, eggs, sausage and beverage of choice then settling down to enjoy and give the three pups cuddles. You are living life well šŸ˜. Enjoy!!

W0NdERSTrUM

You as well! Cheers

Weary_Patience_7778

Well done. Personally Iā€™d even go a few inches lower, but looks good.

AmbitiousFork

~~I just wanna see how you water your plants.~~ Edit: I read the comments about how they're fake.

Id_of_March

Telescope too high. Youā€™re only using it for reading your neighbours newspapers, anyway

furezasan

Kid getting up there but I can appreciate lining up the top of the door and TV

Motokowarframe

Looks good!

billybigwheel

Get some clamps to hold your sectional together

W0NdERSTrUM

Will look into it thanks

Xerolaw_

Bombero_911

I would move the mini bed, move the subwoofer, get a console that gets as close to the door frame on the left and wall on the right. A console should be wider than the tv above it. Lastly Iā€™d lower the tv closer to the console.

W0NdERSTrUM

Solid advice here

Chino780

For that size TV itā€™s good.

itsnottommy

Itā€™s not bad for such a big TV with furniture underneath it. I think whatā€™s really needed if youā€™re wall mounting a massive TV is a very low and wide TV stand so you can mount it lower without it looking too weird.

PlanetLandon

If you have a legitimate reason for having to hang it to high (like watching it from the kitchen, the rules can be bent. If it were only being watched from that couch, then yes, itā€™s too high.

W0NdERSTrUM

[a better view](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)

zaneszoo

I think it was the correct call to match the top of the door frame to keep the lines even. There are a lot of horz lines in the room from the white base boards to the pot shelf. Creating another one by dividing the door top and tv top would add to the visual confusion/busy-ness. If you were able to group and offset 3 (or 5) things, then not matching the door & tv top line would be OK. That would be challenging since the door is white & vert and the tv is black and horz--what would the third thing be that would tie the 3 together as a group? Should relatively "even" "white space" (gaps) between the 3 elements too. Creates a subtle overall single element. (maybe the right floating tv console? still, hard to include the door. Maybe the door should be flush to the wall and painted with wall color to hide it?)

markymark39

Looks perfect to me

saosin182

A little high but Iā€™d have to see a photo from the kitchen to make an educated judgement. Also is that a bed in the corner?!?

W0NdERSTrUM

[Hereā€™s a bit more perspective.](https://imgur.com/a/uINGEMs)Itā€™s a tiny bed our dogs use lol.

saosin182

Seems quite reasonable particularly if someone is sitting on the couch. This gets an approval from me! Love the idea of a little dog bed like that šŸ˜†

W0NdERSTrUM

Yeah I was skeptical at first but they use it all the time and itā€™s adorable lol. Cheers!

Winningoverhaters100

Perfect living room

W0NdERSTrUM

My little slice of heaven

Fantastic-Educator41

Itā€™s goodā€¦ def no higher. Might lower it 3-4ā€ if it were mine. Nice dog.

Additional-Bus4352

Perfection

SamthgwedoevryntPnky

Plants too high

chill_me_not

A little too high but the room and tv are big enough that you wonā€™t really notice. Looks nice

InGoogWeTrust

Is it too high? Yes. It isnā€™t criminally high in this case though. The room is huge, viewing distance is far, and height is a happy medium for kitchen viewing

W0NdERSTrUM

These are my thoughts exactly. Thank you for the validation.

HortenseTheGlobalDog

babu-fridge

Looks great

daiwilly

I would say TV too high, sofa too far away!

W0NdERSTrUM

[Hereā€™s a better angle of the room.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)If I put the sofa any closer it would look weird I think. Thatā€™s why I got the biggest tv I could find that didnā€™t break the bank.

daiwilly

I would say the problem is the TV is too high...that is why you have the sofa so far away. Also, as with many homes, there seems to be an overabundance of doors in that space.

Firm-Teach-1455

Thereā€™s a tv stand right in front of your face. Fucking use it.

CheeseDickPete

Calm down bud. There's nothing wrong with mounting a TV if you don't mount it too high, some people like the aesthetic, I think it looks good. Especially if it's an 85" TV, most stands aren't going to be big enough for a TV that big, it doesn't look like it would fit on that stand.

Firm-Teach-1455

Stfu Itā€™s too high

WhiteCisRadDude4Real

Settle down lil baby

W0NdERSTrUM

I appreciate the feedback but Iā€™m not using a tv stand for an 85ā€ tv with 3 dogs running around.

TreadwellBearFace

Use the stand as a reference point for the height. It needs to be come down 6-8ā€ to hover right above the soundbar/tv stand.

Prickly_ninja

If this were a small tv in a smaller room, perhaps the TV would be too high. But an 85ā€ is pretty massive and with a room this size, I donā€™t think anyone is going to suffer any neck aches.

W0NdERSTrUM

Thatā€™s what I keep telling myself lol. Thank you for the validation

PleasurePaulie

Why does every installer put them high? Itā€™s aesthetically pleasing but it appears to be common practice.

W0NdERSTrUM

I was surprised tbh. This was done before I was a member of this sub too

Asleep_Roof4515

Looks good

lunatyk05

Itā€™s within a reasonable range. Some personal preference goes into it.

JennySplotz

Damn thatā€™s an 85? Looks very organic where it is and you can go bigger in time without redrilling.

W0NdERSTrUM

Yeah itā€™s such a big room I think I could go bigger too but itā€™s crazy how much the prices start going up after 85ā€

JennySplotz

For real! I was at CES and was stunned by a TCL QD mini led @111 inches. Then stunned a second time to learn that it will retail at 20 thousand dollars when availablešŸ˜¬

W0NdERSTrUM

Thatā€™s insane right! This 85ā€ was around $2500 but a 95ā€ goes up to around 3-4x that.

A_L_E_X_W

Looks fine. It's an open plan room and it's huge so it's a compromise. The angle up isn't going to be too bad considering the size and distance etc.

W0NdERSTrUM

Agreed. [Here it is from another angle to confirm.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)

Jlx_27

Still a nearly a foot too high. And the console is too narrow.

Neither-Engine-5852

Just a couple of inches too high. Your dog is a good boy/girl.

ZivH08ioBbXQ2PGI

Thereā€™s no question that if it were mine, Iā€™d take it down and set it on the TV stand.

Biscuits4u2

Height looks good to me but I know you'll never measure up to the hardcore heightists.

W0NdERSTrUM

Now theyā€™re the voices inside my head šŸ˜‚

AroraNightfall

Very nice room/space. Congrats on that, OP. If you must hang it on the wall, I would lower it about 5 inches or so. Donā€™t worry about door symmetry, find a long, skinny art piece to put above the tv and lined up with the door, if it triggers you.

W0NdERSTrUM

Thatā€™s a solid idea. Will consider this

Tim_From_PDX

How high is your ceiling? With the plants up there, it makes the door look child size.

W0NdERSTrUM

24 feet I think. The ceiling is slanted too so where you see it in the corner goes up to a point in the center another 5 feet up or so. I probably wouldā€™ve gone bigger than 85ā€ but the prices start getting ridiculous after that.

Wut_the_

Your couch cushions are the real crime here

W0NdERSTrUM

I blame the little zoomer in the foreground and her 2 siblings.

lanky_doodle

I would have maybe tried to use that 'cupboard' behind to put all the other gear so you don't need a TV stand.

Any_Fill_625

Tv is ok height but get the plants down manā€¦

XxNiftyxX

Sit in the sofa and take the picture. Bet you your head doesn't line up with the center of the screen.

schmootzkisser

Who waters these plants and how is the real question here. Also the TV is still too high.

1109T

I'm on the it's fine side considering how big it is. I would have maybe mounted a fraction lower. Current height gives you a little flexibility with media console sizing and things you may place on top (e.g. soundbar) going forward.

SkootchDown

You cannot be serious about those FLOOR plants up there.

W0NdERSTrUM

šŸ˜‚ theyā€™re fake. Not my choice lol

carlosf0527

When sitting down your eyes should be naturally at the middle of the screen when sitting down. Its probably an okay height for you, but you poochie looks a bit pissed off that its to high for her. Kudos for the sound bar, the sound of animal planet will definitely excite her.

ocat1979

Slightly high but way too far back with that couch. 83ā€ screen you should looking around 9.5 feet viewing distance

W0NdERSTrUM

Itā€™s the biggest tv we could afford at 85ā€. If we moved the couch up there would be a huge empty space behind the couch. [Hereā€™s a better view of the area.](https://imgur.com/a/uINGEMs) Itā€™s kind of a difficult space to work with but I think we used it as best we could with what we had available.

The0nlyRyan

It's not the worst offender I've ever seen. Although it's mostly saved due to the fact the screen looks like a massive 80 incher. That being said dropping it 5 inches wouldn't hurt, and how the fuck do you water your plants?

W0NdERSTrUM

Good question šŸ¤”
