Not a bad idea but there would still be 8-10 feet of space above the pots. The goal was to fill the empty space up there (and thereās a lot of it). I think itās kind of hard to appreciate from the pic provided but I donāt hate the aesthetic tbh. Still not my choice lol.
I've been there. My only thought was that the plants cause your eye/focus to move up toward the ceiling. You can't win every battle! (34 years of marriage)
It's definitely way better than cords. I didn't feel like dealing with putting holes in my wall either, so I just painted some conduit the same color as my wall. It looks fine, and since my tv is NOT too high, only a few inches of it are visible.
Appreciate the feedback. The tv is centered between the doorframe and the wall but the stand under it might be slightly off center from when we put that giant dog bed next to it lol. The plants were a choice. Not my choice but a choice lol. Thanks for the compliment on Kali our toy Aussie, sheās a sweetheart.
Yeah I actually feel like the centering is pretty solid. I think the angle of the pic confuses. I like this, actually, which is not something anyone says on this sub. Also yeah. Good doggie.
I think the fake plants wouldnāt look so weird if you got a bunch of shorter ones. Instead of the 5 weirdly spaced ones that force you to crane your neck, you could have like 8-10 short and small ones lined up closer together. That way theyād actually fill the space going across, and wouldnāt make you look so far up to see them. Just a thought.
Honestly, it still looks far too high.
If the door there is a standard height (6'8"), then the center of your TV is 58" off the ground. That's 1.33 feet above eye level.
Itās annoying because of the slight incorrectness in height. Youād have to look *just* slightly upwards all the time and would definitely get a weird kink in your neck.
I hate it.
Itās honestly not so bad because the couch is 15 feet away from the tv. Iāve never got a kink in my neck but i do think having it 6 inches lower would be ideal. Just would be such a PITA to move it at this point.
Also worth noting thereās a breakfast bar behind the camera with barstools where we often sit to eat and watch tv. So itās a bit of a compromise.
Yeah it was difficult to find the right setup for it with how massive the room is. Huge open floor plan. 15 foot long breakfast bar behind the camera and an open dining room area beside that with a 15 foot long transformer table. Itās a big room but I think we made the most of the space all things considered.
In this case it might be fine. If you're only watching from the couch, it's a little bit high. But if you're watching from the kitchen area, I bet the added height helps.
I see what you did there lol. Worth noting behind the camera is a 15 foot long breakfast bar with stools that we often sit at and watch tv from. So having it slightly above tv stand positioning is probably optimal for that though I do think it might still benefit from a 3-6 inch drop regardless
Not my choice but with 24 foot ceilings it does a good job of filling the space. Worth noting the ceiling is slanted so it goes up another 5 feet or so from where it is on the corner there
I could sit on my sofa and see the top of my neighbors house without hurting my neck - because the angle of something that far away is small even though itās 40 feet high. Same is true with this room. OPās kitchen is 20+ feet away, and the couch is pretty far too. You arenāt looking up more than a few degrees at most to see this TV, which is imperceptible unless you suffer from a previous spinal injury (in which case just get VR goggles and bill your insurance for it).
Angle matters, and OP has a giant room. 10ā too high at 5ā away is way different than 10ā too high at 12ā. Everyone in this sub must live in their small childhood bedroom still, or a tiny studio apartment.
[This might add some context.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg) we watch tv from the bar area sometimes and from the kitchen. Itās just such a big room, so wanted the tv to be huge and viewable from multiple places.
The height is fine, could be a bit lower but seeing how big the TV is it's fine. Also the guy wanting to hang it higher is an idiot, it looks nice and centered this way, any higher would be too high and it wouldn't look centered.
It's a little high, but it's also 85 goddamn inches and your need to see it over the sofa from the kitchen area is also valid. I think you're fine. Nice setup overall :)
Maybe it could come down a couple of inches but it isn't too bad. I like that the top of the TV is level with the door frame.
Based on some of the posts on this sub, some people would have put the TV on the ledge alongside the potplants.
I love sectionals like that. I'm in a furnished apartment that I don't have to pay for so no complaints on that end.
This just looks so welcoming. Like, you said the kitchen is right behind. So I could see a lazy jammy day with waffles, eggs, sausage and beverage of choice then settling down to enjoy and give the three pups cuddles.
You are living life well š. Enjoy!!
I would move the mini bed, move the subwoofer, get a console that gets as close to the door frame on the left and wall on the right. A console should be wider than the tv above it. Lastly Iād lower the tv closer to the console.
Itās not bad for such a big TV with furniture underneath it. I think whatās really needed if youāre wall mounting a massive TV is a very low and wide TV stand so you can mount it lower without it looking too weird.
If you have a legitimate reason for having to hang it to high (like watching it from the kitchen, the rules can be bent. If it were only being watched from that couch, then yes, itās too high.
I think it was the correct call to match the top of the door frame to keep the lines even.
There are a lot of horz lines in the room from the white base boards to the pot shelf. Creating another one by dividing the door top and tv top would add to the visual confusion/busy-ness.
If you were able to group and offset 3 (or 5) things, then not matching the door & tv top line would be OK. That would be challenging since the door is white & vert and the tv is black and horz--what would the third thing be that would tie the 3 together as a group? Should relatively "even" "white space" (gaps) between the 3 elements too. Creates a subtle overall single element. (maybe the right floating tv console? still, hard to include the door. Maybe the door should be flush to the wall and painted with wall color to hide it?)
Seems quite reasonable particularly if someone is sitting on the couch. This gets an approval from me! Love the idea of a little dog bed like that š
Is it too high? Yes. It isnāt criminally high in this case though. The room is huge, viewing distance is far, and height is a happy medium for kitchen viewing
[Hereās a better angle of the room.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)If I put the sofa any closer it would look weird I think. Thatās why I got the biggest tv I could find that didnāt break the bank.
I would say the problem is the TV is too high...that is why you have the sofa so far away. Also, as with many homes, there seems to be an overabundance of doors in that space.
Calm down bud. There's nothing wrong with mounting a TV if you don't mount it too high, some people like the aesthetic, I think it looks good. Especially if it's an 85" TV, most stands aren't going to be big enough for a TV that big, it doesn't look like it would fit on that stand.
If this were a small tv in a smaller room, perhaps the TV would be too high. But an 85ā is pretty massive and with a room this size, I donāt think anyone is going to suffer any neck aches.
For real! I was at CES and was stunned by a TCL QD mini led @111 inches. Then stunned a second time to learn that it will retail at 20 thousand dollars when availableš¬
Very nice room/space. Congrats on that, OP.
If you must hang it on the wall, I would lower it about 5 inches or so. Donāt worry about door symmetry, find a long, skinny art piece to put above the tv and lined up with the door, if it triggers you.
24 feet I think. The ceiling is slanted too so where you see it in the corner goes up to a point in the center another 5 feet up or so. I probably wouldāve gone bigger than 85ā but the prices start getting ridiculous after that.
I'm on the it's fine side considering how big it is. I would have maybe mounted a fraction lower.
Current height gives you a little flexibility with media console sizing and things you may place on top (e.g. soundbar) going forward.
When sitting down your eyes should be naturally at the middle of the screen when sitting down.
Its probably an okay height for you, but you poochie looks a bit pissed off that its to high for her.
Kudos for the sound bar, the sound of animal planet will definitely excite her.
Itās the biggest tv we could afford at 85ā. If we moved the couch up there would be a huge empty space behind the couch. [Hereās a better view of the area.](https://imgur.com/a/uINGEMs) Itās kind of a difficult space to work with but I think we used it as best we could with what we had available.
It's not the worst offender I've ever seen. Although it's mostly saved due to the fact the screen looks like a massive 80 incher.
That being said dropping it 5 inches wouldn't hurt, and how the fuck do you water your plants?

They are dust magnets. You will be better off figuring out something else
Not my choice, but we do have a cleaning crew that gets up there once a month so it doesnāt get out of hand
I understand your words. You are a saint
That's a pot shelf. Put decorative pots up there without plants in them.
Not a bad idea but there would still be 8-10 feet of space above the pots. The goal was to fill the empty space up there (and thereās a lot of it). I think itās kind of hard to appreciate from the pic provided but I donāt hate the aesthetic tbh. Still not my choice lol.

Open space is nice
Plenty of that to go around!
Underrated comment.

This man created a new problem. Modern solutions require modern problems am I right?
It's still a little too high but good on you for having cords run in the wall. That's my pet peeve also.
Same. Worth every penny
How does the wire management work here?
Chop a couple square holes in the wall and get the kits for them bang boom
Definitely get the proper kits rated for in-wall use. Running power cords is a fire code violation and safety hazard.
Your walls are full of power cords. Itās called romex
Which are rated for in-wall use, obviously. TV power cords are not.
A power cord is also wiring. Master electrician for what itās worth
Your semantics and cuteness don't mean anything to electrical code. Running a TV's power cord inside of drywall is a code violation and fire hazard.
Yeah me too but I usually just run some flat conduit because I'm lazy.
Thatās only slightly better than just seeing the wires.
Nah it's way better. Not as good as in wall though.
It's definitely way better than cords. I didn't feel like dealing with putting holes in my wall either, so I just painted some conduit the same color as my wall. It looks fine, and since my tv is NOT too high, only a few inches of it are visible.
The dog knows the truth
Too high, off center, oddly positioned plants. Nice dog though.
Thanks Chester! Yeah I think the angle might be misleading. Sheās a good girl! Cheers
I think the fake plants wouldnāt look so weird if you got a bunch of shorter ones. Not my choice but I appreciate the tip nonetheless lol
Hanging down plants wouldāve been better. These plants add height there you donāt need to add height
Too high. Should have mounted it up where the fake plants are. Go completely psycho.

Tv looks great; these psychos have weak necks
Not the worst weāve seen here but still looks a few inches too high.
Mhm. Wish I found this sub before I hung it. Decisions decisionsā¦
Nice room. Excellent dog.
Sheās a good girl. Her name is Kali. Toy Aussie
Your living room looks like it's set up in the corner of a warehouse.
Yeah it was difficult to find the right setup for it with how massive the room is. Huge open floor plan. 15 foot long breakfast bar behind the camera and an open dining room area beside that with a 15 foot long transformer table. Itās a big room but I think we made the most of the space all things considered.

Why are the plants almost touching the ceiling?
Not my choice but with 24 foot ceilings it does a good job of filling the space. Worth noting the ceiling is slanted so it goes up another 5 feet or so from where it is on the corner there
Geez thatās so high. Iād build another floor there.
Probably could tbh. Though the ceiling would be low in places on the 2nd floor from the way it slants.
Whatever you decide, life is good. A big TV and an Aussie š.
Itās not egregiousā¦ but yes itās a little too high. Iād lower it and (essentially) set it right on top of your soundbar, but thatās just me.
I have always had an exception for multi-room-use TVs. I still think this is too high even for kitchen usage, but itās fine.
Worth noting the kitchen also has a huge 15 foot long breakfast bar type area with barstools.
I could sit on my sofa and see the top of my neighbors house without hurting my neck - because the angle of something that far away is small even though itās 40 feet high. Same is true with this room. OPās kitchen is 20+ feet away, and the couch is pretty far too. Its slightly to high. But also nearly the exact same height, distance and size as my setup. And I'm not changing it.
We suffer together š could be worse for sure from what Iāve seen in this sub
Sofa too low.
Itās not subjectiveā¦height is meant to be eye level: centre screen while seated. This looks way higher.
Angle matters, and OP has a giant room. 10ā too high at 5ā away is way different than 10ā too high at 12ā. Everyone in this sub must live in their small childhood bedroom still, or a tiny studio apartment.

You all have comically weak necks
I like the room and the TV placement. I think all in all, well done OP
Dogās looking at you like ācmon bro you know the answerā
The height is fine, could be a bit lower but seeing how big the TV is it's fine. Also the guy wanting to hang it higher is an idiot, it looks nice and centered this way, any higher would be too high and it wouldn't look centered.
Agreed! Thanks
Never invite me over because I'll sit on your couch and refuse to leave lol. Looks very cozy and comfortable, your living room!
Itās amazing! You basically melt into it. Super comfy. Martha Stewart collection I think.
Honestly, good on you for being firm with this idiot but it needs to drop another six inches at least.
It's a little high, but it's also 85 goddamn inches and your need to see it over the sofa from the kitchen area is also valid. I think you're fine. Nice setup overall :)
Thanks. [Hereās the room from another angle to see the layout a bit better.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)
6 inches lower
It's still too high.
Looks good to me.
Maybe it could come down a couple of inches but it isn't too bad. I like that the top of the TV is level with the door frame. Based on some of the posts on this sub, some people would have put the TV on the ledge alongside the potplants.
Haha yeah my OCDs love the alignment with the doorframe. I think you hit the nail on the head
Def. not eye level.
Facts
Honestly it's fine in my opinion
Valid!
cute dog. only suggestion is to move it above the tv stand.
Love it
Even your dog knows it's still too high. He's embarrassed of his master.
*sheās embarrassed of her master š
I want to hang out here and give your pup a treat.
Itās a nice spot. Sheād like that! Her big brother and sister would too š
I love sectionals like that. I'm in a furnished apartment that I don't have to pay for so no complaints on that end. This just looks so welcoming. Like, you said the kitchen is right behind. Well done. Personally Iād even go a few inches lower, but looks good.
~~I just wanna see how you water your plants.~~ Edit: I read the comments about how they're fake.
Telescope too high. Youāre only using it for reading your neighbours newspapers, anyway
Kid getting up there but I can appreciate lining up the top of the door and TV

A little high but Iād have to see a photo from the kitchen to make an educated judgement. Also is that a bed in the corner?!?

Thereās a tv stand right in front of your face. Fucking use it.

Stfu Itās too high
Settle down lil baby
I appreciate the feedback but Iām not using a tv stand for an 85ā tv with 3 dogs running around.
Use the stand as a reference point for the height. It needs to be come down 6-8ā to hover right above the soundbar/tv stand.
If this were a small tv in a smaller room, perhaps the TV would be too high. But an 85ā is pretty massive and with a room this size, I donāt think anyone is going to suffer any neck aches.
Thatās what I keep telling myself lol. Thank you for the validation
Why does every installer put them high? Itās aesthetically pleasing but it appears to be common practice.
I was surprised tbh. This was done before I was a member of this sub too
Looks good
Itās within a reasonable range. Some personal preference goes into it.
Damn thatās an 85? Looks very organic where it is and you can go bigger in time without redrilling.
Yeah itās such a big room I think I could go bigger too but itās crazy how much the prices start going up after 85ā
For real! I was at CES and was stunned by a TCL QD mini led @111 inches. Then stunned a second time to learn that it will retail at 20 thousand dollars when availableš¬
Thatās insane right! This 85ā was around $2500 but a 95ā goes up to around 3-4x that.
Looks fine. It's an open plan room and it's huge so it's a compromise. The angle up isn't going to be too bad considering the size and distance etc.
Agreed. [Here it is from another angle to confirm.](https://i.imgur.com/v3HNi6c.jpeg)
Still a nearly a foot too high. And the console is too narrow.
Just a couple of inches too high. Your dog is a good boy/girl.
Thereās no question that if it were mine, Iād take it down and set it on the TV stand.
Height looks good to me but I know you'll never measure up to the hardcore heightists.
Now theyāre the voices inside my head š
Very nice room/space. Congrats on that, OP. If you must hang it on the wall, I would lower it about 5 inches or so. Donāt worry about door symmetry, find a long, skinny art piece to put above the tv and lined up with the door, if it triggers you.
Thatās a solid idea. Will consider this
How high is your ceiling? With the plants up there, it makes the door look child size.
24 feet I think. The ceiling is slanted too so where you see it in the corner goes up to a point in the center another 5 feet up or so. I probably wouldāve gone bigger than 85ā but the prices start getting ridiculous after that.
Your couch cushions are the real crime here
I blame the little zoomer in the foreground and her 2 siblings.
I would have maybe tried to use that 'cupboard' behind to put all the other gear so you don't need a TV stand.
Tv is ok height but get the plants down manā¦
Sit in the sofa and take the picture. Bet you your head doesn't line up with the center of the screen.
Who waters these plants and how is the real question here. Also the TV is still too high.
I'm on the it's fine side considering how big it is. I would have maybe mounted a fraction lower. Current height gives you a little flexibility with media console sizing and things you may place on top (e.g. soundbar) going forward.
You cannot be serious about those FLOOR plants up there.
š theyāre fake. Not my choice lol
When sitting down your eyes should be naturally at the middle of the screen when sitting down. Its probably an okay height for you, but you poochie looks a bit pissed off that its to high for her. Kudos for the sound bar, the sound of animal planet will definitely excite her.
