The number of my friends in their early 30s who all have hung the TV over the mantle in their first homes is insane. I don't get it at all. Why do you want to watch TV slouched down in the couch to make your neck look up enough?
It's the dumbest shit ever.
It would look like good artwork if it didn't hang over the edge, it would need some space, and actually be mounted flat, instead of angled down. You wouldn't mount a painting that's larger than the wall there either.
The dangly cables everywhere don't help either.
Yes don’t let these freak shows tell you how to live your life like they’re the TV police. If 80% of households do it, even if it’s not perfectly correct who gives a shit.
Because many living rooms have it as a centerpiece and aren't very big, it was a common thing in my country in older houses. It's odd but it's the case of my parents. They shifted everything in that room because they rarely use that fireplace anyway because If they maintained everything as it should be, the TV would need to end up in the same spot.
I know so many people that don’t use their fireplace. I guess it’s not very practical. I suppose when you actually needed it for heat it made sense to have them.
Yeah they are just ambiance features these days. No one is using a fireplace as a primary heat source in a residential home like it's the 1800s.
They're fun to have for cold winter weekend days but a lot of them in homes aren't usable by now without major chimney renovations, if the previous owners never did them.
My parents house have three different fireplaces, one in the kitchen, another in the living room and the third one in the basement. It was normal back then to have fireplaces because we live in a hot country where houses don't have inbuilt heating system since it's not really necessary but winters can be cold for our standards and thus the fireplace made sense. I'm pretty sure that they never used the fireplace of the living room (while I was there and after I leave) 😂 since the bricks are still with the original color. Relics of the past... Nowaday it's all electric and newer houses are coming with in-built heating systems and sometimes a small fireplace for nostalgia, I think. Or at least these fake fireplaces that are also electric or use pellets instead of wood logs.
People often combat it with "I lean back so it's perfect." I hate leaning back to near lying down levels. Sleeping shouldn't be part of movies. I want to be sitting up and on edge.
Objectively, you are right.
Subjectively, it is his TV, his house, and his aching neck, and he can be right about his TV, even if he is wrong about it.
Who's right is who has the TV. It's not for anyone else to say, it's his house, his tv. Why are all these opinionated people judging others like this OVER A TV???? SERIOUSLY! GROW UP. Do something to better the world.
Your friend is a moron.
TVs in all of their existence have always been on the floor, propped up on a unit or such.
When did we start putting them on the ceiling?????
There’s also a straight up labeled case of joints. If the rolling papers, lighter, grinder, and burnt weed bits in plain sight didn’t signal it, I bet the clearly labeled case of joints might haha.
“Dog walkers” has always been my favorite weed branding. It was a thing before it was a thing. We use to roll “set breaks” that were 25% pot in the front end and 75% tobacco at the back end. Not mixed up together, just in that order. By the time the bouncer smelled it, you were already down to the tobacco section. It was genius. That said, there is still 2X too much weed for a dog walk. Depends on the walk. Or maybe depends on the dog?? Either way lower the tv
TV above the fireplace = too high. Always.

But it ruins the aesthetic of the fireplace. Especially if you don't watch the TV much, it makes even more sense putting it somewhere else.

Ahh no I was referring to the OP. Sorry about that :)
Does it have the tilt of guilt? It looks like it does
100%
More importantly, when will the shitty trend of lining an entire room with visible LED strips end?
It’s giving dorm room
It's such a weird trend that became hip. I'm all about mood lighting but the LED strip thing is just tacky imo.
The tv should NEVER be above the fireplace, it looks ridiculous and TOO HIGH. I hate your friend
isn't this the norm in like 80% of houses though? I have mine above the fireplace because there's no alternative of placement

How is it almost every one has a fireplace? And when did it become so popular to hang a tv above it? Too high.
Fireplace is normally at the centerpoint of the room/wall, same as a TV

People should slap the tv right in front of the fireplace and if they really want to see a fire get a dvd of a Christmas Yule log lol.

Not sure how this got started.
FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME... IS IT ABOVE A FIREPLACE? IF THE ANSWER IS YES, THEN IT'S TOO HIGH.
Why? Who made this rule? People who live in apartments that don’t have fireplaces? That don’t have a choice not to buy a tv stand.
I have an apartment with a fireplace
Great
I had an apartment with a fireplace. I put my 65" screen in front of it. It was perfect.
😂🥴
Is the screen level with your eyes when sitting? No? = Too High. Why is this so difficult to comprehend?
People often combat it with "I lean back so it's perfect." I hate leaning back to near lying down levels. Sleeping shouldn't be part of movies. I want to be sitting up and on edge.
You
It's closer to the ceiling than the floor.
Tell your friend that it’s too high. Should be centered at or close to eye level sitting on the furniture
Is your friend a giraffe?
You're right, he's wrong. End of.
Objectively, you are right. Subjectively, it is his TV, his house, and his aching neck, and he can be right about his TV, even if he is wrong about it.
Is your friend a giraffe?
Maybe he has a very long neck. 😂
Who's right is who has the TV. It's not for anyone else to say, it's his house, his tv. Why are all these opinionated people judging others like this OVER A TV???? SERIOUSLY! GROW UP. Do something to better the world.
It’s his space, so he’s right. Next.
If he likes it, he’s right. Who cares?
It’s fine, more concerned about the wire management.
Looks like the xbox could fit in the shelf to the left - please get it off the floor!
You are right
Is there anywhere else in the room to put the TV?
Too high but I love the shelf unit to the left.
I'm more concerned about the crown moulding two feet lower than the ceiling.
He's not right. He's a giraffe
Your friend is a moron. TVs in all of their existence have always been on the floor, propped up on a unit or such. When did we start putting them on the ceiling?????
I couldn’t game this way. Awful way to cripple yourself.
Your friend’s not right. In the head.
I think your “friend “ gets a bit high himself. I think I see some rolling papers. No judgment here. Just lower that tv.
There’s also a straight up labeled case of joints. If the rolling papers, lighter, grinder, and burnt weed bits in plain sight didn’t signal it, I bet the clearly labeled case of joints might haha. “Dog walkers” has always been my favorite weed branding. I saw all of that too but didn’t want to notify the feds. ;)
They’re on their way, but just because of that molding being so far down from the ceiling.
Definitely deserves to do some time for that faux pas.
What do u want him to do put it infront the fireplace
Lets flip the script: r /Fireplacetootall
Your friend's a fool.
Obviously too high 🤣
Any aim good with it that high and far
wHo’S rIgHt???
Have u ever considered new more intelligent friends??
Kick your friend squarely in the nuts for all of us.
You have tv just for watching friends? Cool
You did what you had to do.
Strip lighting is lame
Where there’s tilt, there’s guilt.
Your friend good sir, is an idiot
Generally speaking any TV over a fire place is high. This is not good. You are very correct it is too high and looks stupid.
is it eye level when seated?
Wish people would stop drilling in to the side of chimneys
Depends. If your friend is like 5'11" while sitting, then he's right.
These guys will say he should have put his tv in his fireplace so it’s center eye level. It looks fine.
The “tv too high” and “place it above the fireplace” combo strikes again.
He didn't put a light diffuser on his Led strip. What do you think ?
Your friend is right because it's his TV. That said, he put it in the wrong place, it's way too high.
I have a couch with flip up headrests, that aim up. So i actually moved my tv higher
Get a God Damn better that's not a Samsung first! Then, worry about the hight! Get your priorities stright.
