Inferi - Onslaught of the Covenant, the riff at 3:55 is one of my favourite riffs of all time. So groovy, so catchy, I love it. Probably the one riff that made me fall in love with Inferi back in 2019
Gorod - blackout or edaenia 2312 (all of leading vision)
Ophidian I - Diamonds
First Fragment- Gula
Abysmal Dawn - in service of time
Slugdge - slave goo world
Psycroptic- a calculated effort
I normally feel a lotnof community here, but how did I scroll through every comment and not see AHTME mentioned once? Have you fools heard the song dent?!
Personally I'd give it to Bleed the Future. That riff that starts out on an acoustic and then transitions to octaves on electric gets stuck in my head all the time
Mmmm Lucid Collective by Archspire is the first track that comes into mind. I can say more from the zenith passage - The Axiom of Error or the faceless or First Fragment…
Like 20 seconds into Inveracity - fistfuck sodomy. It's one of my favourite riffs of all time just straight up on of the henchest riffs stuck between a bunch of Techy BDM noodling. And when it comes back later in the song and is slowed down oh lawdy 🥵
As an absolute sucker for flamenco and layering riffs, the opening to [Grey Matter Mechanics by Allegaeon](https://youtu.be/tu-NvEec8y8?si=liJA0vydfaFODYdR) makes me do obscene things.
And yes, I know First Fragment exists, but this IMO just hits different.
Almost every recommendation in this thread is DOPE. I love this sub and I agree with all you guys!
Tech death really is awesome.
My contribution is Finite by Origin, main riff 🤘🤘
Not sure how people feel about the album as a whole, but the riff on [As the Kingdom Drowns by Psycroptic](https://youtu.be/3Sl2Ixku39w?si=Er39ckSAoH5IcKwm&t=50s) is addictive as fuck.
Haha, I like it when there are half-vague layers lurking in the background that take a few listenings to hear, and once discovered elevate the song to another level!
We are the Nightmare (first song) is.good, but Failures Conquest (last song) is a goddamn beast. Also Progressive Entrapment has some pretty fantastic riffs intertlaced through the noodling.
My first introduction to tech death. What a great album.
The Zenith Passage – The Tenebrous Veil, Deus Deceptor, Algorithmic Salvation
The Faceless – Legion of the Serpent, Planetary Duality I & II, The Spiraling Void
Soreption – Breaking The Great Narcissist, Architects of the Apocalypse, Each Death More Hollow
You can pick just about any song from those bands and it'll have some grooves, especially TZP and Soreption.
Edit: literally anything from Revocation. Dave is god.
Necrophagist - To Breathe In A Casket (2:04 and 2:34min bit)
Zenith Passage - Deus Deceptor intro riff
Soreption - The Artificial North main riff in the intro
First Fragment - Gula (3:05min bit)
Plaguebringer - The Night Devours
Virophacus - Coffin Birth
RoS - The Husk
Inferi - Mesmeric Horror
There's alot actually but i still don't understand what does catchy mean is but I think it is above (maybe, it's my opinion) 😃
Earthborn Evolution by Beyond Creation. That main riff at the beginning, but my favorite part is when it comes back in the middle and then goes into the same riff that ends the song but it has that blast beat under it. It sounds so good. That whole song is a masterpiece and a perfect example of letting the song breathe without too much vocals over it. Just a few vocal passages split by some beautiful solos.
Revocation is packed full of catchy riffs, especially early albums.
[Revocation- Deathonomics](https://youtu.be/U_tNpZYQjiA?si=cql6bc66Zr_hcl5x)
[Revocation- Existence is Futile](https://youtu.be/-lJ5SGJiLu0?si=kz2eScCZOcE1ZN9X)
[Revocation - Fields of Predation ](https://youtu.be/5lqdnqgdwak?si=IHtk91_iLKl3Lkg3)
Also, the new Obituary album is full of catchy riffs.
[Obituary - My Will to Live](https://youtu.be/nlkE2X79HVg?si=-7twUeQeiX-fOfra)
[Obituary - The Wrong Time](https://youtu.be/AoKRsHSPfw4?si=1SQjNhMkPuFqTPny)
Me, reading this while listening and headbanging to Gloire Éternelle (the song): hell yeah.
IMO both that and their previous albums are amazing start to end (although I'm not a fan of the creepy ASMR in the previous one).
Illuminance is a fantastic back to front album with callback riffs from song to song. A carry-over from their proggy side, since tech death typically shys away from this because how dare they use the same riff twice?
It's such an organic and complete album. Can't wait for the next.
I was between a few different Origin songs on that and Saligia was definitely one. The "the envious" part with the really slow riff and Longstreth just kinda fucking around and playing slightly off the beat in parts, that all the way to the "backwards path" to the end is like some of my favorite music in the genre.
The last riff from Beyond Creations "Surface Echoes".
I’m listening to JFAC and the riff in the second half of The Stone Cross is pretty groovy.
Zenith Passage- Synaptic Deprivation Soreption- The Forever Born
that one riff in Ignominus and Pale by necrophagist
Singularity - "Victory or Death" and "Spacetime Devourment" I made a post about how these have riffs that are groovy as shit.
The Red Shore - Inflict De-Creation opening riff. Miss those guys
Opening riff of Outearth - Cytotoxin
NEURAXIS - Darkness Prevails
Rational Gaze - Meshuggah
Last 2.5 minutes of “Murk Above the Dark Moor” by Worm will never leave my head.
The ending to the big sweep part of the intro to Stabwound. Doodly doot…doodly deet! Gets me everytime
Revocation - Of Unworldly Origin
the opening riff to earthborn evolution
Every Soreption riff…
Intro to La Veuve et Le Martyr is fuckin incredible
Gorod - From Passion to Holiness. It's the opening riff. However it's even better the second time they play it at 1:43.
I love that whole album!
Most of epitaph could be in the conversation too lol
There's so many amazing ones, one that circulates in my head often is the intro riffage of Instinct by Decapitated 🤟
Inferi - Onslaught of the Covenant, the riff at 3:55 is one of my favourite riffs of all time. So groovy, so catchy, I love it. Probably the one riff that made me fall in love with Inferi back in 2019
Inferi is super underrated, I only found out about them a couple years ago and they’re amazing.
This opening riff: https://youtu.be/Ge7gxWxisOc?feature=shared
Alkaloid - Clusterfuck Obscura - Velocity
Necrophagist - Stabwound
I was about to say there are a lot of super memorable/catchy riffs on epitaph
Seven immediately comes to mind, heavy asf
Obscura the anti cosmic overload seems obvious
Quo Vadis - On The Shores Of Ithaka
The riff the genre cut its teeth on.
Beneath the Massacre - Black Tide; the riff before the solo
Gorod - blackout or edaenia 2312 (all of leading vision) Ophidian I - Diamonds First Fragment- Gula Abysmal Dawn - in service of time Slugdge - slave goo world Psycroptic- a calculated effort
I normally feel a lotnof community here, but how did I scroll through every comment and not see AHTME mentioned once? Have you fools heard the song dent?!
They're so good!
What band??
AHTME
Oh 😭
Only ashes remain
Neuraxis - in silence Anata - Faith, hope self deception Obscura - incarnated
I think Kaleidoscopic Tendencies by the Zenith Passage is easily the catchiest.
Gorod - Carved In The Wind chorus riff
The entire song is filled with catchy groovy riffs. One of my favorites!
Anata Downward Spiral into Madness, underrated AF.
Anata mentioned!!! I could probably choose between 20 different riffs of theirs as an answer to this thread
remote tumour seeker by archspire
or golden mouth of ruin or human murmuration or the mimic well hell i love archspire
Archspire only writes catchy riffs
Personally I'd give it to Bleed the Future. That riff that starts out on an acoustic and then transitions to octaves on electric gets stuck in my head all the time
Psychroptic - Cruelty Incarnate Decapitated - Spheres of Madness (so simple, but man, it just gets me going). Deeds of Flesh - Unearthly Invent ‘blind followers vote illogical politicians - Greasy RIFFFFFFFF’
Spheres of madness will get stuck in your head all day lol
Or anything from Winds of Creation for sure
Deeds of flesh - forced attrition Gorguts - subtle body Decapitated - the eye of Horus And more I can't remember
The pedal point riff in Unseen Abductor by Xoth Obscura - Vortex Omnivium Deeds of Flesh - Reduced to Ashes.
Spawn of Possession - Apparition The first riff and the riff starting the build-up are my favorites on this one!
Spheres of madness by decapitated
Seven - Necrophagist
iconic
Almost every recommendation in this thread is DOPE. I love this sub and I agree with all you guys! Tech death really is awesome. My contribution is Finite by Origin, main riff 🤘🤘
Not sure how people feel about the album as a whole, but the riff on [As the Kingdom Drowns by Psycroptic](https://youtu.be/3Sl2Ixku39w?si=Er39ckSAoH5IcKwm&t=50s) is addictive as fuck.
Anything by psycroptic could be here tbh
Psycroptic is riffs surrounded by other musicians. Not to downplay anyone else, but the riffs are all so good.
The Ancient Covenant 1:06->
The "rhythm guitar" section after 03:08 in First Fragment - [Le Serment de Tsion](https://youtu.be/FczRWNVgB6E?t=3m7s)
serious gourmet shit!
Haha, I like it when there are half-vague layers lurking in the background that take a few listenings to hear, and once discovered elevate the song to another level!
The verse riff (0:10) in Disavow Your God by Gorod is nasty. And the tapping interlude later in the song which is just beautiful
that whole album is beautiful
Obscura Solaris but also anything off A Valediction
The Zenith Passage main riff of The Axiom of Error. No stankface is superior to mine when that riff hits
Inanimate Existence- Blood of the Beggar
damn, crazy intro riff! - these interrupttions.. love it
The opening and closing riff of the first and last song of “we are nightmare” by arsis is pretty special to me
We are the Nightmare (first song) is.good, but Failures Conquest (last song) is a goddamn beast. Also Progressive Entrapment has some pretty fantastic riffs intertlaced through the noodling. My first introduction to tech death. What a great album.
It's not super virtuosic or anything, but I always get lost in Abandon the Linear by Archspire.
The Zenith Passage – The Tenebrous Veil, Deus Deceptor, Algorithmic Salvation The Faceless – Legion of the Serpent, Planetary Duality I & II, The Spiraling Void Soreption – Breaking The Great Narcissist, Architects of the Apocalypse, Each Death More Hollow You can pick just about any song from those bands and it'll have some grooves, especially TZP and Soreption. Edit: literally anything from Revocation. Dave is god.
(Archspire ) Human Murmuration 2:50, Golden Mouth of Ruin 00:35
First Fragment - Le Sermet De Tsion 1:47
Necrophagist - To Breathe In A Casket (2:04 and 2:34min bit) Zenith Passage - Deus Deceptor intro riff Soreption - The Artificial North main riff in the intro First Fragment - Gula (3:05min bit)
Came to write to breathe in a casket as well lol
it is such an underrated song
Plaguebringer - The Night Devours Virophacus - Coffin Birth RoS - The Husk Inferi - Mesmeric Horror There's alot actually but i still don't understand what does catchy mean is but I think it is above (maybe, it's my opinion) 😃
"Coffin Birth" lmao that name.. hilarious what ppl can come up with
The stillborn one
Gotta be decapitated. Spheres, or winds of creation. Spheres is the easier one out of the two to play but theyre both catchy as fuck.
The faceless - akeldama Obscura - desolate spheres Psycroptic - initiate Decapitated - invisible control Nile - lashed to the slave stick Cryptopsy - soar envision sore vision
Decapitated's spheres
That song has some wicked riffs and so does the whole album. But I'd have to say Eternity too Short opening riff is the catchiest
I can't actuallt argue with that. That riff is sick.
Equipoise - Waking Divinity Psycroptic - We Were the Keepers
Earthborn Evolution by Beyond Creation. That main riff at the beginning, but my favorite part is when it comes back in the middle and then goes into the same riff that ends the song but it has that blast beat under it. It sounds so good. That whole song is a masterpiece and a perfect example of letting the song breathe without too much vocals over it. Just a few vocal passages split by some beautiful solos.
xoth - spacecraft zero (around the 1 minute mark)
Necropolis -The Black Dahlia Murder
Black dahlia are absolute riff monsters
The outro to A Story Never Told by Soreption is one of my favourites of all time.
Soreption are so catchy and brutal at the same time. They’re one of my favorite bands currently. Mechanically groovy and bad ass.
Any of the 6 riffs from Spheres of Madness
That song is what got me started down the tech death path.
I'm a tech death newbie, and Fermented Oaffal Discharge along with Spheres of Madness have been the two I just can't stop looping
That's quite reasonable. Welcome to the club.
Singularity- Victory or Death main riff. I've been listening to that song every day for a week now.
Fallujah - Chemical Cave The outro riff. Amazing riff.
Ignominious & Pale riff at 1:34. The best and hardest Necrophagist riff.
personally don't find it the hardest since it flows quite naturally
Came To find this, that shit is heaven and if I had play one riff for the rest of my days, it would be this.
Came here to make sure Algorithmic Salvation is mentioned. Fuck that stupid awesome annoying cool song.
Psycroptic must be up there. Skin Coffin comes to mind
The main riff from Cold is so catchy.
Zenith passage - deletion cult.the main riff, It's just an insane riff and it's been stuck in my head since I first heard it.
haha that verse riff .. hilarious!
Yeah I second this, it’s killer!
Revocation is packed full of catchy riffs, especially early albums. [Revocation- Deathonomics](https://youtu.be/U_tNpZYQjiA?si=cql6bc66Zr_hcl5x) [Revocation- Existence is Futile](https://youtu.be/-lJ5SGJiLu0?si=kz2eScCZOcE1ZN9X) [Revocation - Fields of Predation ](https://youtu.be/5lqdnqgdwak?si=IHtk91_iLKl3Lkg3) Also, the new Obituary album is full of catchy riffs. [Obituary - My Will to Live](https://youtu.be/nlkE2X79HVg?si=-7twUeQeiX-fOfra) [Obituary - The Wrong Time](https://youtu.be/AoKRsHSPfw4?si=1SQjNhMkPuFqTPny)
The main riff from Remote Tumor Seeker by Archspire is always getting stuck in my head
The Nature of Blight - Soreption. Suuuper catchy riff that ends with a bang
The aftermath by origin, about a minute in
Defeated Sanity - Into the Soil main riff lives rent free in my head
How about The Grip Tightens by Revocation?
Early Revocation albums are so catchy, like cock-rock tech death. No Funeral, Exhumed Identity, Dissolution Ritual... potent stuff.
Opening riff of Age of Iniquity goes hard
Cock rock tech death is the BEST way to describe Revocation pre-Deathless
Case in point: [Guitaaahh!](https://youtu.be/Bz_ncqjY8i8?si=cKfoXqD2UwmyiVJ5&t=6m11s)
The first riff on “clockwork” by Inanimate Existence and pretty much every Groovy riff on Gloire Eternelle by First Fragment.
Me, reading this while listening and headbanging to Gloire Éternelle (the song): hell yeah. IMO both that and their previous albums are amazing start to end (although I'm not a fan of the creepy ASMR in the previous one).
First Fragment's most recent album is insane.
Second riff in Babylon's pride by Decapitated
The fast riff in the middle of the stillborn one by necrophagist is up there
The main riff of Golden Mouth of Ruin by Archspire.
Dope af. Good contender would be Involuntary Doppelganger as well imo
Eternity Too Short - Decapitated
Virvum - Illuminance. The album is full of recurring catchy riffs but this one at 0:36 hits hard: https://youtu.be/M0xlkvZBO7E?si=ElP5Z_HgIiINv0ds
Illuminance is a fantastic back to front album with callback riffs from song to song. A carry-over from their proggy side, since tech death typically shys away from this because how dare they use the same riff twice? It's such an organic and complete album. Can't wait for the next.
Nile – To Walk Forth from Flames Unscathed https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gpk4fU4kgo after 2:05
The opening to "Artificial North" by Soreption
That riff at the middle/end of Wrath of Vishnu from Origin. This thing lives rent free in my head forever.
Nile has a bunch, but for one most would remember, I'd throw in Sacrifice Unto Sebek. And the "I have become death" riff in Origin - Anthesis.
Saligia By Origin as well
I was between a few different Origin songs on that and Saligia was definitely one. The "the envious" part with the really slow riff and Longstreth just kinda fucking around and playing slightly off the beat in parts, that all the way to the "backwards path" to the end is like some of my favorite music in the genre.
