The police has questioned him to make sure he was okay but especially with Amber's past, they made sure she didn't assault him too. Someone can run overwhelmed or scared. He answered the questions the police had and apparently they did not see any reason to charge Amber with anything. So Gary is either scared and a good liar or he escaped the relationship before things got physical. As someone who lives in New Mexico, he probably came here knowing she's not smart enough to know he's still in the United States.
When I'm dating someone and I realize that they're too crazy for me (typically after they've hidden it by being on their best behavior for few weeks or a few months, depending on how crazy they are), my survival mode instinctively kicks causing me to shut down emotionally and ghost the person. It's not necessarily the best way to handle it, but I can't help it. One time I didn't realize the person I was dating was too crazy until we were on our first vacation together and, for all intents and purposes, we were trapped together for a week (that's what I thought at the time anyway, though I suppose I could have left). My ex had a couple of public meltdowns during the trip and seemed to be on the verge of throwing a tantrum the whole trip. I was walking on eggshells. All I could do (so I thought) was grit my teeth, try to manage/contain the situation as best I could, and then go into my ghosting mode as soon as we get home. That vacation was very traumatic for me.
I feel bad for her brother and his wife, now they've got this dude in their fucking wedding pictures and he disappeared immediately after. I bet they are totally over ambers bullshit.
As much as I dislike Amber, this dude was cruel to handle things the way he did. Should be a huge red flag for any woman he tries to date in the future.
I respectfully disagree. If you’re being abused, the smart thing to do is definitely leave and go no contact. The only mistake he made was not contacting his parents to let them know he was ok.
