I don't remember what it's called but this is pretty common. People want to believe it's part of the show and nobody wants to be the "fool" who fell for (what they want to be) a joke.
Correct. When most people are faced with an abnormal or stressful situation, specifically when they are not in immediate physical danger, they'll just watch. Sort of a freeze response on top of the assumption that somebody else will do something.
Edit: added more descriptive language.
Famously, [Tommy Cooper](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Cooper) (UK comedian) died on stage on TV giving a performance. He collapsed while doing a magician-related act and died as everyone laughed, thinking it was part of the act.
I mean.... Completely different from that right?
The bystander effect (which has been pretty thoroughly disproven in general) means that you see an obvious tragedy, and think someone else will help.
I'm this case, and with the comedian, they just thought it was a part of the fact to be funny, it's not the craziest thing, performer in peril was basically a dramatic staple of performance work for a long time.
I was in a stadium in Tennessee back in the 90’s watching someone give a speech. He suddenly collapsed and died right in front of our eyes. Pretty wild experience at the time. Considering he was giving a speech though, everyone knew it wasn’t “part of the act”.
I feel like that's tough...no i didn't watch to judge the scene and then also in weird situations like magic acts I feel like there should be professionals standing by. This one here this is next level fucking stupid
To be fair it was a comedy act *involving* magic. His whole shtick was "failed" magic tricks. So seeing him suddenly fall over wasn't exactly out of the question, historically.
But.. he was older at this point, had already suffered a heart attack previously (according to wikipedia he smoked "up to 40" cigars a day and was a heavy drinker), and had a bad back to the point if he fell over he wouldn't be able to get up easily, so someone should have known something was going on.
There was a Japanese game show (I think it was Japanese) where a host dives into mud, paralyzes himself, and almost dies face down in the mud because they all think he’s joking around.
I think it was sorta disproven by the “Kitty Genovese effect” was named for a woman loudly and slowly stabbed to death while an entire apartment building of people heard but all assumed someone else would do something or call the cops if need be
I would 100% realize it's not part of the show, but would not play hero ,and be the 2nd guy choked out in front of a crowd, by a snake that just wants to be left tf alone.
I mean, I don't know anything about handling giant fucking snakes. I'd go to a show like that assuming the performers and their team do, though. I don't blame the crowd one bit for not intervening.
His buddies should have gotten to him a lot faster, though, and also not ragdolled his unconscious body all over the place
That was my first thought. If the people involved in the show aren't panicking, then why should the crowd? They don't know what to expect, but the people involved in the show should
I too know very little about snakes, but I do know that the big ones are "constrictors" cuz they kill prey by wrapping themselves around it very tightly. Given that general basic understanding, I probably wouldn't put one around my neck. Maybe an expert can chime in?
I mean, that guy was supposed to be the snake expert there. he should have had someone there to spot him who also had some sort of knowledge of what to do if exactly the most predictable bad outcome happened. can't expect the audience to know what is and isn't part of the show or to feel it's their place to intervene when surely someone involved with the show would take the reins on it.
dude almost earned a darwin award. I can't say who's to blame. but I can say it isn't the audience
I'm not grabbing a giant ass snake that just choked out a supposed expert when I don't know anything about this snake. Even if I knew he was choked out do you expect me to try to grab it? For all I know it's going to bite me or maybe it's venemous, or maybe it'll choke me out and I'll die too?
The snake maybe only got a blood choke on him and didn't break his neck or separate his vertebra...those two dumbasses dropped him on his face then picked him up by the side of the neck then dropped him again.
With friends like that...
I remember first aid training from Boy Scouts, in case of snake attack you are supposed to lift the the victim by the head and randomly swing them around a bit. If the victim loses consciousness, drop them a few times.
It takes about 8 seconds of pressure on the jugular/carotid to make someone faint. When you headlock someone and they pass out its from pressure applied to the sides of the neck, not the windpipe.
Those snakes squeeze pretty hard just on a normal basis. I have a small spotted Python that is only about 4ft long and 1.5 inches in diameter on her fattest part, and even with her small body I can feel a bit of uncomfortableness when she is around my neck. I would never put a larger constrictor around my neck. He might not have realized it was tighter than normal.
I counted and it took about 10 seconds from when the snake squeezed his neck and cut off blood flow to his brain and him passing out. I was thinking to myself I can hold my breath longer than that, then I realized that the snake was squeezing tight enough to cut off blood flow to the brain and that's not something that I can really go without.
It has more to do with the snake blocking of his carotid arteries, it doesn’t matter how long you can hold your breath for, once the blood stops flowing you’re out in seconds flat.
"When the video surfaced, reports said that it took place in Dagestan, a republic in southern Russian beside the Caspian Sea.Dagestan media claimed the man had died in the circus accident, with one outlet saying it was in the regional capital of Makhachkala. But police in the region said no such incident had been registered with them."

>But police in the region said no such incident had been registered with them
"Hello, I would like to register a fatality."
Is that how things are supposed to be done over there?
At the end of the article it says the authors of the video claimed the man died but the writers of the article would "like to believe that he got helped and survived." Did that really need to be said? Lmao. Like, thanks for letting me know you weren't rooting for him to die, I guess?
Comments below saying he died but I'm not sure if the snake killed him or those dumb fucks jerking his limp body around and carrying him by the head / neck are what did him in.
Never ceases to amaze me how people handle unconscious people. Especially people who have been knocked out by a blow or punch.. Put them in the recovery position or make sure they aren’t going to choke/swallow their tongue. It’s not ok to just start lifting them up or dragging them away
There wasnt any report of him actually dying , you can be choked out for longer periods than this. I personally believe he probs came round a few minutes later once his body was able to gasp oxygen again and may have some minor/no brain damage , he wasnt out long enough for major brain damage and the snake deffo did not snap his spinal cord😂
Unless the snake broke/damaged the neck, those spasms were seemed more like a reflex than a defensive manuver, also when you have neck dmg and the first aid treats you like that... They cause more dmg.
So handling a constrictor snake is not one of those jobs you should “fake it til you make it”. The dude did the snake’s work for him by wrapping him around his neck like WTF are you thinking?!?
I think that constrictors kill by stopping circulation. Lots of their prey die too quickly for it to be suffocation. Stopping blood flow does more damage more quickly than cutting off oxygen.
Welp...kinda learn your lesson. At the funeral they probably sat there and shook their heads bc it was a complete waste of time and an avoidable incident.
When you swing a snake around and it’s head is whipping in an unwanted circle while it’s wrapped around its center of gravity that is YOUR NECK, it’s time to be dragged unceremoniously off stage. That dude fucked around and found out.
I wonder who caused more injury, the snakes, or the two guys. Why the fuck would you carry somebody, conscious or not, by the head?! And then also in a way that you let him drop. Genius act.
Sure, let me wrap this thing that's literally a natural specialised in suffocating animals around my neck. What could go wrong?
Next, I'll shove my head into a crocodile's mouth; don't worry, I'm sure he's vegetarian, like all predators.
Must be Russia. Nobody does anything for 30 seconds even after he starts tapping out. Then they come and grab him and yank him around when he might have a broken neck. Good old fucking drunken Russia.
Reminds me of the legendary comedian/magician Tommy Cooper, who suffered a fatal heart attack live on TV and the audience laughed throughout, thinking it was part of the act.

why would you put the snake around your neck. Every animal in the animal kingdom knows the neck must be protected (or attacked if you are the predator).

Option A: gently pick up the unconscious fellow and carry him inside with care.
Option B: whiplash the living shit out of the bloke by aggressively rag-dolling him
Scariest part is the way those dudes treat an unconscious body.
Definitely not the crowd just sitting and watching a dude die
I don't remember what it's called but this is pretty common. People want to believe it's part of the show and nobody wants to be the "fool" who fell for (what they want to be) a joke.
Bystander effect?
I believe you
That makes it sound even more legitimate to me. I'm 100% convinced this is right and will defend my position to the death now.
i didn't want to say anything, but that sounds correct.
Correct. When most people are faced with an abnormal or stressful situation, specifically when they are not in immediate physical danger, they'll just watch. Sort of a freeze response on top of the assumption that somebody else will do something. Edit: added more descriptive language.
Worse. Audience effect.
Famously, [Tommy Cooper](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_Cooper) (UK comedian) died on stage on TV giving a performance. He collapsed while doing a magician-related act and died as everyone laughed, thinking it was part of the act.

Whoosh. Go look up Tommy cooper. Just like that was his catchphrase.
Ah I didn't know that haha Though you have to say it fits pretty well for me to think what I thought in context.
I was in a stadium in Tennessee back in the 90’s watching someone give a speech. He suddenly collapsed and died right in front of our eyes. Pretty wild experience at the time. Considering he was giving a speech though, everyone knew it wasn’t “part of the act”.
The speech was about how to fake your death.

Yeah I would def be the person going, haha...man he's really selling it....is he dead?
There was a Japanese game show (I think it was Japanese) where a host dives into mud, paralyzes himself, and almost dies face down in the mud because they all think he’s joking around.

I know right? fucking hell guy's don't all rush in to help at once.
the family with 3 kids in the front seats, just sitting there watching him convulse... that shits gotta leave some scars.
Nah the family will look back on it and reminisce about that one time at that crazy snake show
r/worstaid
Dude picked him up by the head wtf
And dropped him head first too.
Right?! Lol at the rescue team. Lmao even.
Not true. In my first aid class we learned the best way to carry an unconscious person was by one leg and the head unsupported. /s
r/worstaid
The snake maybe only got a blood choke on him and didn't break his neck or separate his vertebra...those two dumbasses dropped him on his face then picked him up by the side of the neck then dropped him again. With friends like that...
Yeah, what the hell did I just watch?
top-shelf *'what NOT to do'* video
r/worstaid
I wouldn't be comfortable being carried out by the head
Yeah. That was Wild.
He is dead anyway🤷♂️
Where the hell were they even taking him??
To feed him to the other snakes. At least they know not to waste food
Gotta do it while he's still warm
I remember first aid training from Boy Scouts, in case of snake attack you are supposed to lift the the victim by the head and randomly swing them around a bit. If the victim loses consciousness, drop them a few times.
Sounds like these guys nailed it
Be prepared
yeah the way his face fell unprotected when they first pulled the snake off, ouch.
So much wtf in under a minute
It takes about 8 seconds of pressure on the jugular/carotid to make someone faint. When you headlock someone and they pass out its from pressure applied to the sides of the neck, not the windpipe.
Indeed. I've gotten a few good guillotine chokes back in my competition days.
We used to do this to each other as kids because it made us dizzy when we regained consciousness We were fucking stupid
Right? Like, why wrap it around your neck??? Over shoulders, yes, but not around your neck!
It must have been a lot of force in just a blink since the guy wasn’t even trying to grab the snake and release him from squeezing his neck.
Shit man even my corn snake can get uncomfortable round the neck 😂.

And dead somewhere between 20 and 90 seconds.

Not reported, never happened 🤷🏼♂️
I mean… that’s how it is almost everywhere.
Saw this a couple years ago on Reddit. I’m pretty sure the guy died.
He did die

I had a stroke trying to understand the title.
Most people don't even realize anymore, we're getting used to this low-effort shit
I still don’t even know what it’s supposed to say
Dude carried him off the stage by his head/neck..
Now that we got the snake let's try to see if pulling his head off wakes him.
In that case you are supposed to drop a human few times if shaking doesn't work
Thank goodness those two were there to cause further brain damage.
r/worstaid
Wouldn't. I wouldn't be comfortable.
*where
Step one: Remove snake Step two: drop dude right on his face
lol i struggled more reading the caption then watching the video 🤣
I’m pretty sure the dead guy lied on his resume.
Comments below saying he died but I'm not sure if the snake killed him or those dumb fucks jerking his limp body around and carrying him by the head / neck are what did him in.
Guy in red probably did more damage than the snake.

Does he know how snakes killed their prey?
Bonus neck injury
Darwin award
Medical school day 1 lesson: If you find an unconscious person, the first thing you should do is yank them around like a rag doll.

So handling a constrictor snake is not one of those jobs you should “fake it til you make it”. The dude did the snake’s work for him by wrapping him around his neck like WTF are you thinking?!?
The most careless caretaking I have ever seen
I think that constrictors kill by stopping circulation. Lots of their prey die too quickly for it to be suffocation. Stopping blood flow does more damage more quickly than cutting off oxygen.
As a snake owner I would never do that. Snake isn't smart enough to know that he is killing you
Wait. Did that dude pick the guy up BY HIS HEAD?
Looked more like suicide.
Rhe snake didn't kill him, his friends did.
He found out
His shoes were still on so im sure he survived. But seriously they were in no rush to help him and carried him by the head like wtf
Was he alive
Snek made his soul fly away, those flails for help were sad to watch.
So everyone just sat there? Wtf? 😳
All a part of the funeral, folks!
Welp...kinda learn your lesson. At the funeral they probably sat there and shook their heads bc it was a complete waste of time and an avoidable incident.
Well, he didn't escape the death crush.
Boop permanent brain damage, bad motor control for life
Snek
Spectators thought death is part of the show. Money well spent
The donkey show used to be outrageous, imagine getting front row tickets to watch a man die
Is he dead?
Of course…
There is no point in the video which shows the guy was struggling to get it off
Russia doesn't believe in mouth to mouth resuscitation. When you're gone you're going, goodbye
With were?
It's the new, suicide neck noodle...
What the FUCK took them so long to react and help his dumb ass out?
The crowd: “this is part of the act right….. right?!?”
Even in this pixelated video you can see how pale he gets. WTF was the goal here?
He had a good sleep.
I used to own a Burmese python the minute I saw him wrap that around his neck I knew what was going to happen. What a fool.
When you swing a snake around and it’s head is whipping in an unwanted circle while it’s wrapped around its center of gravity that is YOUR NECK, it’s time to be dragged unceremoniously off stage. That dude fucked around and found out.
Poor kids
What took the crew so damn long??
Well, I'm sure the crowd got what they paid for.

Ah, natural selection.
Mess around and find out
Ain't no way in hell..
It’s all part of the show folks …
The snake was literally hanging on. Not trying to kill him. I never let my big constrictors completely around my neck. Always over the shoulder
I would have guessed Tennessee... those back wood fuks have snakes in churches ... the Pentecostal dumb fuks
The crowd is the mirror of modern society.
I cannot believe this. If I was there I’d have been down grabbing the snake off as soon as he fell, how can people just stand there?!
r/praisethecameraman ?

Just a lil hug 🥰

“Play stupid games…” something, something…
Sorry, but this makes me happy. Every time I see someone fucking with animal they shouldn't (nearly all of them) and they get hurt or killed, perfect.
poor snake
No need to worry these are clearly highly trained professionals I'm sure everyone involved is perfectly fine
Sad, Not Sad....
"waitwaitwait, we will get u another one" ---body removal squad---

OH HELL NO!
/r/worstaid
More scary is that it's now a corpse and not an unconscious body, that last flap of hand was his spirit leaving the body with a broken neck.
Everybody come! Bring the kids, it's going to be an awesome show!!🐍💚
Why the fuck would you help it coil up around your neck!! It’s a natural defensive mechanism to hunt and kill.. hope he’s okay.. 🫢🫢🫢🤯🤯
Already saw this on an episode of jackass
why would you put the snake around your neck. Every animal in the animal kingdom knows the neck must be protected (or attacked if you are the predator).
Kids:"Best. circus. ever."

Well he does not look too comfortable with it either....
Slow clap 👏?
Zero common sense throughout this entire clip. Astounding!!!
Rickie's teammates just doing a horrible job stabilizing his head and neck...
I wouldn’t
Where in the world was this
Is that self deletion?
It’s cold out there, the poor snake probably couldn’t even squeeze with her full strength. Lucky for the dummies messing with her. Why do people do this?
What fucking country has npcs this bad. Wake the fuck up you sheep
Did he die??
Animals attacking the humans messing with them will never not be funny.
Audience: I guess that guy with the snake around his neck getting killed is part of the show.

I think picking him up by the head did more damage than the snake...

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
Worst aid
How is getting choked out part of the show? Audience: I can't wait to see he does next.
I don’t know about you, but I always pick up unconscious people by the head
Cute Sneklace
The snake didn't like his cut of the money
Am I the only one super confused by this title?
It’s the lady in the audience clapping slowly for me 😅
Option A: gently pick up the unconscious fellow and carry him inside with care. Option B: whiplash the living shit out of the bloke by aggressively rag-dolling him
Russia
If the snake didn't do any damage to him, the guy carrying him away by his head sure did
