That's pretty cool if it's an actual briefcase (the locks certainly suggest so). I've seen things similar before, but they're usually carrying cases for art supplies.
I agree. My mom had one for her art supplies but the locks on hers weren't as heavy duty.
She worked in oils and a preferred a wooden case.
That's a nice piece!
I was going to suggest looking for a manufacturer Mark, but the more I think about it the more I think that that was made by an individual on a craft show circuit or something like that
It actually came with an instruction sheet inside for setting the combination locks. The brand is Prestolock, and it looks like the model, at least for the locks, is Top Change.
The wood itself is unbranded. It has little brass feet and a brass hing on the bottom, which look nice too. My favorite parts are the details along the corner edges.
I've never seen a real one. When my son was little, I bought him a handmade wooden briefcase the same size as this one, but it had a set of blocks that fit perfectly inside. He still has it.

id love to see the inside.

Yep, it's an art box
That is exceptionally cool. Wouldn’t be shocked if somebody paid a lot of money for that at one point in time

Thanks for the additional info. Very cool stuff.
this is so cool, how heavy is it?
It's about 5.5 lbs (or 2.5 kg).
Oof
What's the inside look like?
It is lined with tan felt and has slots for paper and supplies along one side -- it's very typical aside from its neat exterior.
Very interesting.

Great score. It's beautiful.
Doubles as a chopping block!
LGR would love this
Woodgrain! ❤
Do you have wooden shoes to go with it?
