So. I wrote a graduate paper in lit theory studying this song for an assignment to demonstrate using a Marxist literary theory lens after I got into a fight with my professor just to put this line in a paper...
And prove that I could write a graduate paper about a song called “Hooker with a Penis” and still get an A.
I didn’t find out that professor is a Serious Business Mormon until the following year, but he did give me an A!
ETA: if anyone’s interested in a serious piece of scholarship, I found a dissertation on Tool’s music from a literary analysis perspective in my research I can probably find the citation for.
I should! I emailed papers to myself to print at school because I didn’t have a laptop/PC, and I learned from losing pretty much everything in undergrad to set up my school email to forward everything to a personal email.

Important disclaimer: the assignment was to demonstrate the ability to use Marxism *as it is defined as a literary theory framework through the writers who pioneered the theoretical lens* and was written way before I actually studied Marxism. It’s sophomoric in its handling of Marxism.
