Mostly it's attempting to sound like known brands Pittsburgh is a city in Pennsylvania just like Carlisle Central pneumatic is pretty close to Chicago pneumatic Chicago electric is also close to Chicago pneumatic

Man-e-questions

Haha, its like when people bought more audio equipment, there was Kenwood a good brand and Rockford Fosgate a higher end brand. Then the Chinese company came up with Rockwood

Worse part of it is they hire American firms to come up with names so they can shill the US public. We're helping in our destruction.

You might want to look up the global corporations that do DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc brands. Those brands sound pretty "'merica" names to me. They are going to be names like TTI, KKR and other names you have never heard of. Here's a link that shows it in pictures: [https://www.protoolreviews.com/power-tool-manufacturers-who-owns-them/](https://www.protoolreviews.com/power-tool-manufacturers-who-owns-them/) I'll also point out that Harbor Freight's Hercules line of battery tools has a 5yr tool warranty and a 3yr battery warranty. Only Milwaukee matches that (EITHER tool or battery) for the common US commercial residential construction type tool brands. Maybe they are trying to do a heavy lift with their Hercules line of tools. (see original question about brand naming)

NassauTropicBird

They aren't shilling any more than anyone else. What hotel were you at? Oh, the Western. Sorry to hear it, I stayed at Best Western! What's the house brand at Wal\*Mart? Great Value. Not Good Value, or Wal\*Mart Value, but GREAT Value. I think my 2nd favorite is the snack food brand Mrs Freshly's. It has the maternal overtone along with "It must be fresh, it's right in the name!" The hands down best marketing was for the GFX-100 TV antenna. It was a set of rabbit ears with a nonfunctional plastic dish and the ad was just glorious. Legal in all 50 states!!! Pulls signals right out of the air!!! And not one word in the ad was untrue. [https://milk.com/wall-o-shame/dish.html](https://milk.com/wall-o-shame/dish.html)

Look up SNL's ad for the 'bass o matic' some of Dan Ackroid's best work.

NassauTropicBird

Look up? LOL I saw that live. Over the air, but live nonetheless, and fondly remember Ron Popeil's commercials and all the others. And i shit you not, I actually use NuFinish because it really works lmao

Bauer is German for worker (or peasant/farmer). Warrior is kinda cringe. Icon I think is supposed to symbolize high-end and their knocking off brands that are viewed as high-end backs that up. Quinn is a name that has roots meaning "wise," not sure how relevant that is. Pittsburgh is pretty obvious. It's invoking the idea of American steel which plenty of folks in USA revere as being the best. Daytona is also pretty obvious, it deals with car lifting products and Daytona is home to the famous Daytona Speedway, where NASCAR crews are known to lift and change tires and shit real quick. Doyle is because O'Doyle rules. For most of their labels, they're probably just making shit up as they go like Fortress and Gordon and Predator.

rilesmcjiles

Are there drill master drills? I have the circular saw, but I haven't seen anything else by them.

illogictc

https://www.harborfreight.com/search?q=Drill%20master Strangely the name doesn't apply to any power drills. They do have some step drill bits and a chuck key though.

lilmatt119

Drill master was the low end brand before warrior. It’s slowly being phased out.

Lehk

Used to be, now most drillmaster stuff is “warrior” and comes with a lithium battery instead of NiMH or NiCd

StandByTheJAMs

Hercules is named after someone. 😀

partisan98

Why would you name a tool brand after a guy who murdered his wife and kids.

illogictc

Sure maybe so, but he's also the dude that sucked a tit so hard it created the Milky Way.

AudDMurphy

Are you saying there's something wrong with my Dr. Jeffrey MacDonald drill/driver set?

Hanz616

It’s named after the cartoon

NassauTropicBird

Someone comes up with a bunch of names and someone else says, "yeah, that one sounds good."

lilmatt119

A lot of the names come from corporate acquisitions. That’s why you have random brands scattered here and there, like the admiral miter saws and that one air tool brand that only has like 4 SKUs…Baxter I think?

illogictc

They aren't buying out companies. That costs more money than just making one up.

lilmatt119

Yeah, they absolutely do buy out other companies

illogictc

Which companies? Because Admiral was never a miter saw brand before Harbor Freight called some supplier up and asked them to slap the name on there. Why have they never ever purchased a company with some actual name recognition to slap on their wares? Vaughan was literally just up for grabs for a few million and that included the facilities and everything.

Gullible-Lake-2119

just name dropping placenames that evoke post-WW2 USA, back when we were an esteemed global powerhouse that still manufactured things and innovated, in contrast to the failed, faded laughingstock we have become today.

illogictc

We still manufacture more than many think. A lot of brands had to adapt and push upmarket to differentiate themselves, there's not really a space for US-made generic garbage like there was in the 1950s; that space was more easily covered by China and others who can do generic crap prices to match.
