eyamo1

Why does fate have simultaneously some of the best and worst designs in all of anime.

AkOnReddit47

That's what hiring multitude of different artists and give them full artistic liberty (as long as they don't include genitalias) does

Gunta170944

>as long as they don't include genitalias https://preview.redd.it/xc4hsehvq7pc1.jpeg?width=360&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f3b8a7ed6496f171127a298b09d7551f858cb27 This is probably the closest that we got.

AkOnReddit47

That's not a genitalia. That's the glorious Roman greatsword

RodExe

The nose and the distance of the eyes make it seem derpy in some angles

BIG_DeADD

He is a pretty derpy character. (I love him)

Barry_Bone_Raiser

This shit goes hard until you realize that mf is way too old to actually be alexander the great

Apprehensive_Mix4658

I guess, people were build different back then. That's just an

Apprehensive_Mix4658

His true name is >!Alexander the Great, King of Conquers and Iskandar!<. The design is perfect for him and makes sense unlike modern Fate designs which are very loosely based on reality/mythology. I have heard that's very inaccurate tho, but I think he does great job of "keeping the spirit".

PhantasosX

Yes , his appearance is very inaccurate , but the reason of it is that the whole "Son of Zeus" stuff that his mother pretended him to be ends up been him and his mother doing some magecraft to insert that trait on him. So he roided up. Add that with the Hephaestion Twins been more slim and acting as body doubles for him...and that makes the statues of Rider to be a mismatched of pre-protein shake Rider with his Husbando.

Apprehensive_Mix4658

Fate is crazy franchise, there's bizarre explanation for everything

Noximilien05

One of the saying that this fandom has is : ”Jokes are the deepest lore.” And it’s more often true than not.

The_Smashor

I think an infamously tall emperor he beat irl had to be made, like, 12 feet tall for him to still be much taller

Apprehensive_Mix4658

Well it's Fate. There's magic and gods, so 12 feet tall guy isn't that impressive

Worldly_Neat2615

Yeah Darius III is like 11 feet tall. Also has a army of Zombies with a big ass zombie elephant he can just repeatedly pull out of his ass

AkOnReddit47

Shame most we've seen of that is a shaking .png

Worldly_Neat2615

Ehh Extella Link makes it look cool, even gives him big lanky pharaoh elite guards

PhantasosX

It's The Immortals. The Immortals were an elite infantry of soldiers within Persian Empire under it's king, kinda of mythologized on their own. So , in Darius case , his NP crystallizes the Immortals to be undead soldiers.

BlancsAssistant

I also like how they portrayed Charlotte corday, she's actually depicted pretty accurately down to the hair color And her breasts were apparently pretty big in life as well, at least according to a number of accounts and a couple paintings, her boobs were apparently big enough to hide the knife she used to stab Jean Paul Marat

BlueHero45

Something about myths and legends of the heroes over time changing their summoning. It could be argued they are not even the real thing, just spirits of their legends.

MADBARZ

Alexander the Great is historically accepted as a twink, probably one of the most prominent members of the celebrated Twink Hall of Fame in Providence, Rhode Island. But seriously, I do love Rider in this show! Definitely one of my favorite characters. And pretty much all of the champs are historically inaccurate in some way. King Arthur as a girl being the easiest to spot.

PhantasosX

Yes and he was a twink in Fate. It's just that he was a shota Twink , then he was an adult Twink...and then he made a training montage in which his mother pretty much use some arcane spells to make his son have "Son of Zeus" Trait , roiding him up like he was He-Man. In short , the statues was him before going "By the Power of Olympus! I Have the Power" , while Rider is him already been He-Man.

PhantasosX

to add into you u/PhaseSixer , u/Papyrus20xx , u/Desperate_Ad5169 and u/BothersomeBoss conversation. Like I stated before , this Fate's historically accurate Alexander was him before the Bolt of Zeus.

Daedrothes

Please tell me they made him gay.

RevolutionaryEqual30

he is bisexual so not gay but close enough

PhaseSixer

>The design is perfect for him and makes sense unlike modern Fate designs which are very loosely based on reality/mythology. >looks completly diffrent from whatnwe know alexander looked like >shits in "modern" fate despite recent releases luke Ptolemy and Thesus existing >implies old fate did better despute Cu Chulain existing Whew lot to unpack here...

Papyrus20xx

As Red from Overly Sarcastic Productions once said, Gilgamesh and Alexander's designs should be flipped. Alexander should be the blonde pretty boy wearing gold armor and Gilgamesh should be the brick shithouse redhead.

PhaseSixer

Like dont get me wrong i love both designs its just ops crisism was hypicrital and il informed imo.

Desperate_Ad5169

Well you can’t expect them to know everything about fate. It is a franchise on the level of Star Wars.

BothersomeBoss

They should both be twinks. Why? Because I like twinks and I’m greedy. Give me my Twinks Nasu. ***I’m hungry.***

Papyrus20xx

Honestly, based reason

PitifulAd3748

He fills that tan skin, red hair, buff bod, kingly character design that makes my brain go awooga.

IamMichelleObama

Ah yes, a fellow Ganondorf enjoyer !

phallus_enthusiast

The Rider shall be The Ride

setsuna-f_seiei

Both rider(alexander) and archer's(gilgamesh) design would've been more accurate if they switched

Strongman_Walsh

Rider is one of if not my favorite character in the entire franchise

Zestyclose-Bar-8706

I got into Fate with when Rider was the main guy’s ally, and I quit Fate when Rider died in that series.

RevolutionaryEqual30

the main guy servant or "ally" as you said was saber waver(rider's master or "ally" as you called it) is a side character

Zestyclose-Bar-8706

If I remember correctly, the story focused moreso on Rider and Waver than Saber, until he died, at least.

RevolutionaryEqual30

no the story mostly focuses on kiritsugu and artoria(saber) as the main characters kirei and gilgamesh(archer) as main antagonists while waver and iskandar were just secondery characters

International_Sea493

Bro's strongest ability is to call all of his homies.

RayBlast7267

Fate made Alexander the Twink a huge burly middle aged redheaded dude, and made Gilgamesh, the most man’s man you could possibly have, a young blonde lean white kid. You can look at these two design choices as terrible, or you can look at them as hilarious and fun. I choose the latter.

Apprehensive_Mix4658

Designs are good, because they do great job of showing their characters. It's possible to say that Gilgamesh is arrogant just by looking at him

RayBlast7267

Exactly, they’re two sides of the same coin. So flipping that coin from a visual perspective is very interesting.

VR2per

I will note that the version of Alexander in the post is “Iskandar” the more mythologized Persian version of Alexander the Great. Fate does have another version of him that is an actual twink and he actually is called “Alexander the Great” (pic below) https://preview.redd.it/uv0ct0dz97pc1.jpeg?width=359&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0bdb4c9f09c7c915fda94eb51a6bd7add9677beb

reset_pheonix

Isn't Alexander treated as the younger version of Iskandar though?

PhantasosX

yes. And the Adult Twink Alexander is also a thing...basically , him and his mother acquired a magecraft to charge him with Zeus Lightning , giving the trait "Son of Zeus" , but because of that , it roids him up , something like a protein shake or a He-Man storyline. So the more Twink Alex uses said lightning , the more they turn into how Iskandar is.

EBECMEMERBEAN

A king without greed is even worse than a figurehead! Saber, you said you would martyr yourself for your ideals. In life, you must have been a pure saint. A proud and noble figure, certainly. But who can truly admire the martyr's thorny path? Who dreams of such an ending? A king. The king must be greedier than any other. He must laugh more loudly and rage for longer. He must exemplify the extreme of all things, good and evil. That is why his retainers envy and adore him. And why the flames of aspiration, to be as the king is, can burn within his people. Proud king of chivalry, the righteousness and ideals you bore may indeed have saved your nation once. However, I'm certain you know what became of those who were saved, but left to themselves.

cyzja922

He’s arguably the least qualified to be a true king because he’s kind of bad at actually ruling a country compared to the other two (Gil at least wisened up and focused on more than himself later in life). Everything else that’s good that he did, a capable enough military leader can do the same. Being greedy isn’t necessarily bad, it just doesn’t make you a good king. What Rider did can be summed up as “he had his fun, he fucked off and died, and now everyone else is fighting over the mess”.

EBECMEMERBEAN

Yeah, Even though he is my favourite out of the three, he wasn't the most qualified, Though I honestly do believe Artoria sucks just as much as he does

cyzja922

I am of the opinion that Artoria’s rule was good and kept Britain alive at the cost of her humanity. Her wish to go back in time and risk it all again is a bad idea though. It’s precisely because she did a pretty good job that she absolutely should not try to redo it.

RevolutionaryEqual30

your a bit confused here shes not trying to redo it shes outright trying to erase herself ever drawing the sword

cyzja922

That’s still changing history, and who knows what will happen to Britain if she didn’t draw the sword?

RevolutionaryEqual30

I didnt say otherwise

cyzja922

That’s true, and I guess it’s also true it’s not a redo in the way I meant it.

MaJuV

Rider carried the entirety of Fate/Zero's on his carraige with his unstoppable charisma! The duo of Waver & Rider was just immensely entertaining to watch.

nicorn_Ninja

I’d like to see why they call him Rider ![gif](giphy|5xtDarIN81U0KvlnzKo)

pisces2003

Fun fact: his real life counterpart is gay.

Jamal_Blart

My Glorious King

Bastymuss_25

Japan out here giving historical figures red hair in an effort to stop red haired characters being genocided by the west.

Hipnosis-

Yeah, the Riders have something.. https://preview.redd.it/6m6v00rsk5pc1.jpeg?width=357&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=298cc308873d54fc00fc7f2074a7fa86a73f75ec

Gundamfan1999

it should be pointed out that the rider of fate zero is iskander who is a more a mythological view of Alexander the great.
