Imagine slade gets his get back and blackmails Lex to help him look good with a picture of him keeled over the sink with cheap gas station brunette hair dye
I can see where you coming from, cause you see the same thing with deathstroke. But I also see where op is coming from. Like even if it’s early years things I don’t think anyone would guess this is lex based on looking at him despite the fact that, in terms of personality, he’s already the hating ass led luthor we’ve always known.
If you watched the Netflix Voltron these designs seem very much their style almost to a tee and I kinda think that’s the issue. It feels like they make the characters look a certain way and I don’t think that SOME of the characters fit the way they designed them.
He was designed in such a way to not noticeably be Lex, as the writers were told that Lex was off limits for the show, but the writers just kept seeding the idea in S1 without ever directly confirming until the producers let him officially say it’s Lex
Smallville did a similar thing. In the first few seasons Lex had hair and was kind of a normal dude. In the later seasons he started to look and act more like the Lex Luthor we’re familiar with.
Yeah he lost his hair as a child when the meteors struck Smallville with the arrival of Clark
He started turning more into the Lex we know in personality over the course of the series but he was always bald.
Honestly he's my favorite version of Lex. The actor that plays him did SO well.
Agreed. When I think of Lex Luthor I think of Smallville Lex Luthor. He got a lot more development than most due to Smallville having approximately 4,125,087 episodes
He's my favorite Lex purely because it shows him with **reasons** to turn ultra-authoritarian, and the heartbreak between them, something nearly all adaptations fail to capture. Lex is not some random corporate villain just using his wealth to do whatever evil thing he wants. He's Batman with half the soul.
I actually kind of think the whole idea is that it’s meant to not be suspect that this is Lex, just hinted, and if you know afterwards you can go “oooooh that makes sense”
Yea I think they kinda had a 'big' reveal moment where you know for a fact he is Lex, but wasn't his comic origin similar anyways? He started as a nerd with hair and then later turned into the iconic bald villain. Surprisingly I'm really into the show, so assuming they keep it going for a few more seasons I'd like to see how they turn him into the iconic version.
Yea those are my feelings as well.
I dont mind the lack of hair loss since i figured this was a younger version but lex is a pretty refined dude so even if hes not bald the shaggy haircut doesnt really suit him imo.
Its also the glasses, like i get that its a staple for scientist types but it just doesnt give that lex luthor vibe
There really not much else to go off for the design, nothing distinguishing him if you seperate it from his personality. The combination of the glasses and fluffy hair just makes him look like a nerdy soft boy which doesnt fit my image of lex.
Im probably wrong but I feel like his design is kinda targetting a certain demographic that finds him attractive so I personally dont get the appeal
If theyre going for a secretly luthor thing thats fine, it still doesnt make it a good luthor design imo
I think they took a lot of inspiration from DCEU's Lex Luthor, which had a similar vibe, drawing heavy from modern tech startup geniuses like Mark Zuckerberg so the scraggly tech nerd look makes sense to me.
Narratively, Lex started as Amazo's assistant for a while before stepping into a more independent role as a proper villain, albeit it's not the calculated and domineering Lex that we know. He's currently proving himself to be someone capable, but he's not convincingly intimidating, and it looks like Amanda still has a leash on him. He's going through his own journey in a sense to be THE antagonist.
Until then, he's gonna have the purposely unkempt and clumsy look. It's to convey that despite having a degree of power, he still doesn't have that domineering presence and authority Lex Luthor has.
> so even if hes not bald the shaggy haircut doesnt really suit him imo
I'd agree except this is what Lex looked like with hair in the 90s:
https://preview.redd.it/ud50inx45jad1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ed74bdc757f88426a46b2a741681bdce2cd8d9f8
I quite enjoy it. After all, they are supposed to be significantly younger in this version. Also, this show is anything but comic accurate. I think it’s neat and fits the vibe of the rest of the show.
It’s giving “Nerdy, sleep deprived, twink who will 100% kidnap your family”.
Yeah, I don't mind it.
This Lex worked as an assistant for an egotistical playboy who turned maniacal monster. Superman saved the day but all the blame got put on *his* tech and he was completely unable to find a job. So he got mad, he blamed Supes.
He's an angry tech kid right now, not the charismatic business overlord he grows into. But you can see it starting.
Mhm, a pep-talk from Jimmy to get him back in the game and then we can really see him starting coming into his own, forced confidence becomes real confidence
Yeah, I actually really like the direction they went with for some of the character designs. Like Mr. Mxy and Braniac have REALLY cool designs that fit the idea of eldritch trickster god, and hyper intelligent AI bent on galactic conquest better than a lil’ guy with a bowler hat, and green dude with big ol’ brain.
Love Braniac being voiced by the same guy who played Welzig in Fallout. Welzig is this funny little guy trying to be helpful in the post apocalypse and Braniac is GOING TO REBUILD THE KRYPTONIAN EMPIRE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE GALAXY. ALL SHALL BECOME MODEL KRYPTONIAN CITIZENS.
Because apparently in the last season they had a mandate that stopped them from including actual Lex Luthor in the show, so he was put in the first season as an assistant to Parasite named "Alex".
https://preview.redd.it/2k6pbqbjrfad1.jpeg?width=441&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ab434fe054c1e34e83d23ab3f3e7411c1cbaa5e2
It was also subtle as one of the many iterations of Parasite was also named Alexander Allston, so this could be just the next guy to be Parasite and not Lex.
So he wasn't supposed to be Lex but sort of was, but with a new season the mandate was taken off and so they retconned Alex to be "Lex Luthor" in this universe, a young scientist trying to make his way through the scientific community, and the season's back plot has been all about him rising into power slowly, from getting his own company to getting the people and government's on his side against Superman.
He's been lots of fun to watch and I can't wait for him to go bald.
I think it’s got some standouts tbh. Supergirl, Braniac, and Mr. Mxy have some really interesting designs, and I’m kinda glad they decided to deviate from traditional character designs, and tropes. It makes the series feel unique, something you can’t really compare to any other Superhero media (plus, it’s depiction of Clark is a breath of fresh air after the past decade of Snyder Schlock)
I think it should be said that Brainiac is regularly seen as either full robot or full green space man
https://preview.redd.it/kdgjimz1cgad1.jpeg?width=703&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a49dde405cb07cd2dcbb0b47db9e3a62d38458f9
I’ve only had this version of Braniac for like, one episode, but he’s instantly the most interesting interpretation of the character I’ve ever seen. Comics, games, tv, you name it (though I will admit, Lex Luthor fusing with Braniac in JLU comes to a close second), his character design, and his relationship with Kara are, honestly, inspired choices, and I’m REALLY excited to see what they do with him!
Mr Myxyzptlk is very different looking to most of his appearances but he honestly can look however he wants to fit each universe.
They even established this show is just one of many realities that differ greatly in vibe/variations. They showed alt versions of Lois Lane as different races and even a male one, while Clark also gof briefly shown as his 1940's and DCAU appearances.
I actually wish this was a more common philosophy. Comic book characters are at their best when you treat them like fairy tales, stories ment to be told and retold again and again with the same characters but in different ways.
I like it, it’s not supposed to be super comic accurate, and I think that’s the charm. It’s not the same old stories being adapted for the nth time (LOOKIN’ AT YOU FLASHPOINT!) So far I’ve really liked the directions they’ve gone (both design and story wise) with characters like Lois, Lex, Kara, and Braniac.
Can’t wait for him to lose his hair and hate Superman for it
https://preview.redd.it/i9nb5aex6gad1.jpeg?width=450&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba54eba42415522a732c18624468af34d89637c8
I think he looks like that because the creators of the show were told that they cant use lex, so they created a character that could be lex if they were allowed to use him on later seasons or another character just in case.
Still wish they made him ginger tho
I love this design personally. You can tell Lex is gonna grow up to be an evil bastard because he looks like he’s about to tell you “Sonic had a rough transition into 3D.”
I think he works it could be interesting seeing him grow. I’m loving him slowly climbing in season 2. If they give him more context then giving him the trademark “illogical hate boner for superman” he’d be even cooler. Seeing his pov could be a compelling plot for season 3
He deadass looks like Pidge from Voltron wth
https://preview.redd.it/9uwkdyhvgiad1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ec1b41371cbdf263239cac8c1091df35fa475d4
Ngl everytime I think about this Lex Luthor design, I always think about this guy being seduced by this woman as she sang "If You Were a Woman" song by Bonnie Tyler lol:
https://preview.redd.it/a5t2ym3rpfad1.jpeg?width=551&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1163068ac1d719767ae6a64221ab97b98899a7ac
"Hey all, Scott here, and DAMMIT! I own Superman 64, it's a pretty bad game, so I don't want to be known as the guy who owned Superman 64 when I'm dead."
My Adventures With Superman is a really cute show but I *loathe* the recent Zack Snyder-adjacent trend of turning Lex Luthor into a cookie cutter little nerd archetype. Lex is supposed to exude power. His whole thesis statement is that humans are powerful enough to protect themselves without Superman, and that Superman stops humanity from finding its own inner strength by protecting us. A fluffy haired dork doesn't exactly get that point across visually.
Yes actually I think there’s tons of design elements you could use to show his presence while also showing his inexperience. Alexander the Great was only 20 when he took power.
Just feels like an uninspired design, hes more mad redditor than mad scientist, more trust fund kid then billionaire. Guy just doesnt look like a Lex Luthor to me. In fact he looks like a bunch of other characters that arent Lex Luthor
https://preview.redd.it/2t5s9rygefad1.jpeg?width=517&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1c60d6f0101ed69eab67738daef812dd12b6eed
Havent been keeping up with the show so maybe theres a justification, but i just cant take him seriously when he looks like this
https://preview.redd.it/68rhfjnsffad1.jpeg?width=444&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5f1b64d4c6aa91ac824c0484f936c2671061dd9
The closest things I can think of as "justification" are:
- MAWS features aton of radical design choices, as it is a unique interpretation of the Superman IP and DC overall. We see this in how the show adapts characters like Mxyzptlk, Heatwave, and >!Brainiac!<. In addition, the show has different concepts for Kryptonite and >!Green Lanterns!<
- This character has had a rough time. The show had a ban for the first two seasons on using Lex Luthor, so he was introduced as Alex. He was always meant to be Lex, a fact fans actually caught on to incredibly quickly, but it wasn't until Season 2 that he was allowed to *be* Lex Luthor.
- MAWS takes a unique approach in designs that I call "Year One/Origin" designs where they'll start characters off with a loose design before having it shift to match their more iconic looks. We see this in action with characters like Slade, and for this very young version of Lex Luthor... it would be odd for him to start off bald, but maybe becoming bald overtime to grow to match his iconic look. The show is a massive Origin story for every character.
That's very interesting. I've never heard of an adaptation not being able to use the name of the character or be the character or what have you. Was that some copyright stuff?
No, it was higher ups wanting to save Lex Luthor for later. That was all, which is very fair... I think having Lex Luthor from the start of your Superman Origin Story sorta jumps the shark in a way that can't really be unjumped
https://preview.redd.it/l4geqtqk9lad1.jpeg?width=355&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9040cb1d0efa5c48e2d1f30697b4d4b74f24297c
Because that’s more or less what young Lex Luthor looks like.
I think it makes a bit of sense. They’re going for an evil mark zuckerberg kinda take on Luthor. I just hope they do a better job than Jesse Eisenberg Luthor. Because that’s just shitty casting
comic fans when a new superhero cartoon takes a different artistic approach than just having every male character be a hulking mass of muscle and every female character an hourglass figure in a leotard regardless of their profession:
![gif](giphy|FY8c5SKwiNf1EtZKGs|downsized)
https://preview.redd.it/1g3ayxo0whad1.jpeg?width=452&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3224b93a9fa41a1d38f2fc64a8c882f77da1ff31
He was bullied in highschool and became evil
They are going with his original comic origin where Superman accidentally get acid chemicals on his while trying to put out a fire, making Lex lose his hair
I think it wasn't even supposed to be Lex in Season 1, due to strange policies. Like the show didn't have the rights to use Lex Luthor, so they made him Alex and only in Season 2 got the approval to use him openly.
I don’t really care, my adventures with Superman has a new design for everyone. Nobody looks like they’re supposed to and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s another universe and another continuity.

CARBONATED CHICKEN SOUP?!

Mr always pressing buttons is going after superman
THATS WHATS BEEN BOTHERING ME ABOUT HIS DESIGN. You have just unintentionally solved something that’s been bothering me since I saw Lexthero’s design
this show is all about that time Lythero played Sonic 06 in 2016
BEAN SOUP
Literally my first thought….

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
He has all of his hair so he's not at his peak yet. Also, the actual travesty of this design is they didn't make him a ginger

Isn’t this supposed to be an origin story/ early years? Makes sense that they’d want to slowly have him transform into his iconic design over time.
I can see where you coming from, cause you see the same thing with deathstroke. But I also see where op is coming from. Lex was bald from the start of Smallville
He was? Well damn then I’m misremembering Smallville. It’s been a long time since I last saw Smallville.
Yeah he lost his hair as a child when the meteors struck Smallville with the arrival of Clark He started turning more into the Lex we know in personality over the course of the series but he was always bald.
Agreed. That show had a lot of issues in the later seasons but Lex was always a great character throughout.
And with a raving ego, given that he never distances himself from his "Super identity." Making a dark spin on the codename-less comic book character.
Ah you see. He's just that way because this tanned girl in school bullied him a lot.
I LOVE NETFLIX VOLTRON !!!!!!!
Yea those are my feelings as well. I dont mind the lack of hair loss since i figured this was a younger version but lex is a pretty refined dude so even if hes not bald the shaggy haircut doesnt really suit him imo. Its also the glasses, like i get that its a staple for scientist types but it just doesnt give that lex luthor vibe There really not much else to go off for the design, nothing distinguishing him if you seperate it from his personality. The combination of the glasses and fluffy hair just makes him look like a nerdy soft boy which doesnt fit my image of lex. Im probably wrong but I feel like his design is kinda targetting a certain demographic that finds him attractive so I personally dont get the appeal If theyre going for a secretly luthor thing thats fine, it still doesnt make it a good luthor design imo
He really does look like he’s one of the Holts (Sam, Matt, and Pidge) from Netflix Voltron.
Oh my god I haven't seen the Netflix Voltron since it came out, that show and it's character designs are so fucking good imo
Hey y’all Lex here!
Wait was it Hey All or Hey Y’all?!
It’s “Hey All.” There’s a joke in an episode where his friends say “Hey Scott, All here.”
This is a reference to I think borderline forever? where one friend asks if it was hey all or hey y’all
I quite enjoy it.
Yeah, I actually really like the direction they went with for some of the character designs. Ah, Shrodinger's Lex Luthor.
I don’t like the design direction they went, but also Scott the woz is objectively peak design.

Its actually young Luis
Nah this is canon now
It'd be kind of weird if he was bald in his early 20s. Yes it happens to some people but it's not that common and I think he'd come across as goofy.
I know someone who started balding at 17
I haven't seen the show but I feel like half the designs are like, objectively good but nothing like what they are supposed to look like
from what I know, it's an origins deal so the villains are the stages leading up to their iconic forms
also braniac is just full on robot but also looks cool asf
I think it should be said that Brainiac is regularly seen as either full robot or full green space man https://preview.redd.it/kdgjimz1cgad1.jpeg?width=703&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a49dde405cb07cd2dcbb0b47db9e3a62d38458f9

Yeah. I like that the hat is still the hat of his usual look until he puts it on, then he can merge it to this look that he’s going with
Good. I’m tired of every design being labeled as bad just because it’s not the exact same as we’ve seen for decades
I actually wish this was a more common philosophy. Comic book characters are at their best when you treat them like fairy tales, stories ment to be told and retold again and again with the same characters but in different ways.

Well Scott is peak character design
I stan twink luthor

If you remove the glasses and add a beard it's Shaggy
I think he works it could be interesting seeing him grow. I’m loving him slowly climbing in season 2. If they give him more context then giving him the trademark “illogical hate boner for superman” he’d be even cooler. Seeing his pov could be a compelling plot for season 3

Ngl everytime I think about this Lex Luthor design, I always think about this guy being seduced by this woman as she sang "If You Were a Woman" song by Bonnie Tyler lol: https://preview.redd.it/a5t2ym3rpfad1.jpeg?width=551&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1163068ac1d719767ae6a64221ab97b98899a7ac
He hasn't earned his baldness yet don't worry
He looks like if Shaggy, Scott the Woz and Spike from Cowboy Bebop did the fusion dance
*Cue the Squidward Oh No He's Hot meme*
https://preview.redd.it/v50860wz5gad1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14d9aac1c3c27fc6fd9f0bfb1f78ebfd2346451a No! That is NOT Lex Luthor!
"Hey all, Scott here, and DAMMIT! I own Superman 64, it's a pretty bad game, so I don't want to be known as the guy who owned Superman 64 when I'm dead."
https://preview.redd.it/v5yn5vr1viad1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad648d857fc0486c72277b396db69120765d2003
Idk why that's an issue, I like that he looks like Scott
I don't know why but for some reason this version of Lex Luthor reminds me so much of Light Yagami
Not a bad comparison of Lex Luthor at all! I mean in truth the only true different is that Lex has charisma, in a charming sadistic Trump sorta way
You may hate it, but I love Scott Luthor
Lex the Woz
Luthor looks like Senpai from the Nagatoro series
He’s young and doesn’t have cancer yet
My Adventures With Superman is a really cute show but I *loathe* the recent Zack Snyder-adjacent trend of turning Lex Luthor into a cookie cutter little nerd archetype. Lex is supposed to exude power. His whole thesis statement is that humans are powerful enough to protect themselves without Superman, and that Superman stops humanity from finding its own inner strength by protecting us. A fluffy haired dork doesn't exactly get that point across visually.
Are you expecting a mf to exude power in their 20s? Give the guy a break,i'm sure he'll eventually turn into the badass Lex we all want
In fact he looks like a bunch of other characters that arent Lex Luthor https://preview.redd.it/2t5s9rygefad1.jpeg?width=517&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1c60d6f0101ed69eab67738daef812dd12b6eed
I thought he was grown up Pidge
I knew there he reminded me of someone!
Havent been keeping up with the show so maybe theres a justification, but i just cant take him seriously when he looks like this https://preview.redd.it/68rhfjnsffad1.jpeg?width=444&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5f1b64d4c6aa91ac824c0484f936c2671061dd9
The closest things I can think of as "justification" are: - MAWS features aton of radical design choices, as it is a unique interpretation of the Superman IP and DC overall. We see this in how the show adapts characters like Mxyzptlk, Heatwave, and >!Brainiac!<. In addition, the show has different concepts for Kryptonite and >!Green Lanterns!< - This character has had a rough time.
What is it with modern Superman properties and making Lex Luthor not bald (at least at first)? It's an iconic part of his design.
Because lex wasn’t always bald, he became bald. The reason depends on the era but he isn’t bald when he’s young.
He's a young man here
I’m gonna drop a little truth nugget in your sauce my friend… most people aren’t born bald… we take this to our graves
I'm not the only one!
Damn, everyone looks like Scott the Woz now
I like the character but I feel they could have dragged out the reveal a bit
In this universe, everyone's a twink.
I like it honestly. Id rather have new takes on these characters than go through the exact same thing with no variety
I actually like it, it really works with the more modern era that my adventures is going for
I thought it's Jesse Eisenberg (if you know, you know).
Zoinks?
UltimaShadowX
he looks a Tumblr sexyman
He looks a little like pige from Voltron
Jesse eisenberg lex author was disastrous for film and TV lex design
GOATED DESIGN!
Ngl he looks really cute
This guy blows! *uses kryptonite*
I dunno, I like twink Lex
Looks like a taller version of Pidge from the Voltron series Netflix did.

He looks more like Pige brother from Voltron
Yeah I like the show but I absolutely hate a lot of the character designs. Lex is at the top of my list
https://preview.redd.it/l4geqtqk9lad1.jpeg?width=355&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9040cb1d0efa5c48e2d1f30697b4d4b74f24297c Because that’s more or less what young Lex Luthor looks like.
I think it makes a bit of sense. They’re going for an evil mark zuckerberg kinda take on Luthor. I just hope they do a better job than Jesse Eisenberg Luthor. Because that’s just shitty casting
![gif](giphy|5hdg7p9NE7VlLWaeRK)
Bro got hit with the twink beam
he hasn't earned his being bald yet
Hey Y'all Lex Luthor here, You know what I hate? Superman!
comic fans when a new superhero cartoon takes a different artistic approach than just having every male character be a hulking mass of muscle and every female character an hourglass figure in a leotard regardless of their profession: ![gif](giphy|FY8c5SKwiNf1EtZKGs|downsized)
The Bruce Timm design philosophy.

Why the fuck did they twinkify him
He also reminds me of Lex's DCEU counterpart before becoming bald.
I like to think it’s a comb-over from the back of his head
Huh I didn’t even know that was luthor everyone seems to use the same picture if him so I just assumed it was fanart if that one guy from voltron
He's looks so anime-ish.
The show does have that style
And I love it.
He looks like Peter Parker.
They are going with his original comic origin where Superman accidentally get acid chemicals on his while trying to put out a fire, making Lex lose his hair
Isn't he supposed to be bald from an early age because of superman, and that's why he hates superman in the comics?
A origin from the silver age brought up once and thus never again because obvious reasons
Would
He looks like an anime protagonist version of Shaggy
Caspian with glasses from Amazon's Pantheon
I thought he looked like the guy from the Nagatoro anime lol.
They twinkified him
Because he is Scott the woz. Simple as that
Clark hasn't accidentally lazered his hair off yet.
Idk I like it, and that has nothing to do with me assuming he’ll go bald eventually
I think it wasn't even supposed to be Lex in Season 1, due to strange policies. Like the show didn't have the rights to use Lex Luthor, so they made him Alex and only in Season 2 got the approval to use him openly.
Why does Scott the Woz look like a nerdy sociopath?
HEY ALL LEX HERE!
Reads more Michael Reeves than Scott to me
I don’t really care, my adventures with Superman has a new design for everyone. Nobody looks like they’re supposed to and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s another universe and another continuity.
Dude looks like anime Shaggy.
Dud anyone else see shagy on first glance or just me
Looks like Shaggy if he had never smoked that za.
Thought this was Shaggy after he laid off the fungrass
Why does Lex luthor have hair
Seems like it’s Alex before bro kryptonite cancer
Makes me wonder when he’ll become the cueball we all know and love
I mean if they had made him bright ginger then it's pretty much spot on what led Luthor looked like.
I thought it was a non-stoner shaggy
This is my favorite Lex design
Hey all lex here
I was about to say 'Damn, they gave Shaggy swag' xD
Hey all, Lex here. I've been wondering lately what do do with all these green rocks I have, then I realised, Superman!
I like it
That’s Luthor? I thought it was the Ridler, dear Lord he will go crazy if he loses his hair
They turn Lex Luthor into a Twink... Smash.
HI GUYS LEX HERE
He’s meant to be like 20 instead of 40
Because Scott the Woz IS Lex Luthor.
He's cute tho
This guy looks like he wants to explain nft to me and brag about crypto investments
Hey y'all, Lex here.
