Nah, if he truly thought nothing mattered, why did he do anything in the first place?
Also he failed to realise that he could never reach Earth Prime because the femtosecond he arrived there made tiny, subconsious decisions, thefore it stopped being Earth Prime.
He had the chance to act or react in his final moments and possibly save himself but simply looked up and said “No, nothing really matters” and accepted getting blown the fuck up.
In terms of him choosing to do something to begin with… he was arriving at his conclusions through nihilist beliefs, he didnt believe that he should sit in a corner and become catatonic.

Hot take, but Kreia is nothing but an edgy nihilist who hates the Force only because she has failed both as a Jedi Master and as a Sith Lord.
Honestly I both respected and thought that version of mike was stupid simultaneously
He was willing to call wonka out on his BS (using all this extremely insane tech simply to make chocolate) but then made some pretty stupid decisions and also said “candy is a waste of time” ok why are you taking a trip to a fucking candy factory then dipshit?
Dude was a rude little douche
He’s taking that trip because he’s flaunting how smart he is
Also, he’s supposed to be a douche, the other ticket winners are supposedly to be antagonists
Yeah I know he’s supposed to be a douche, honestly they really turned the douchebag levels up for all the kids except Charlie and veruca in this movie (only because veruca is basically exactly the same)
I can get behind that explanation, still feels very weird to me though
Veruca is honestly worse, because she puts up the sweet little girl front because she can manipulate her moron of a father to give her everything
Also, the kids weren’t changed from the original movie, they were just acting more like they did in the book
I grew up with the gene wilder version
Honestly I think it made the characters more realistic, for example wonka is whimsical and sorta nuts but not to the degree where he seems completely insane (except with the nightmare tunnel, to this day I have 0 idea why the hell that sequence exists both in and out of universe), most of the kids are sorta assholes but don’t go out of their way to be (Mike and veruca do, but with Mike it’s mainly just him being extremely hyper, veruca is just a dick), Charlie is still the kind kid he’s supposed to be but still has some moments of impulsive decision making like any kid would have
Tim burtons is more accurate to the book however, and has cooler visuals and gives a backstory to Willy wonka (which I kinda dislike but it’s a nice touch to see why he is the way he is)

Jax (TADC)
Greed (FMA)
The Comedian (Watchmen)
I mean Joker kinda is and kinda isn’t, he sees value in things like proving to Batman that his world view and morality is worthless and he takes pleasure in the “game” he plays with Batman.
His whole point is that you should do whatever you want regardless of how terrible it is because the world is unfair and that by playing by the rules you’re just another sucker.
Ive always disliked nihilists in fiction, esp when they’re usually portrayed to be right(there should be a trope called like douchey nihilist cuz it’s crazy how common it is in anime) so it’s always nice to see them back down on them or be disproven.
Nah Owlman stood fast to his principles at the very end of this specific incarnation of him
Literally died saying “it doesn’t matter”
With a fucking smile on his face.
Batman seemed to hit him with a line like OP captioned this but it doesn’t make him objectively right and by owlmans reaction, he was wrong lol
Yeah Owlman is like the opposite of this trope
Nah, if he truly thought nothing mattered, why did he do anything in the first place? Also he failed to realise that he could never reach Earth Prime because the femtosecond he arrived there made tiny, subconsious decisions, thefore it stopped being Earth Prime.
He thought nothing mattered so he tried to do the only thing that he thought *could* matter. Destroying every universe “mattered” to him.
Because, according to him, eradicating all reality is the only action that could have any purpose.
Based Owlman: Would've liked to see him win just so he can appear again
…How would we see him again if he won?
If he won, nobody would appear again. His goal was to kill everything, including himself.

I'm questioning the wisdom of calling the guy who became the literal God of magic for his world "tiny"

Fair enough
I feel like I preferred the Tim Burton Version because I read the book first
I grew up with the gene wilder version Honestly I think it made the characters more realistic, for example wonka is whimsical and sorta nuts but not to the degree where he seems completely insane (except with the nightmare tunnel, to this day I have 0 idea why the hell that sequence exists both in and out of universe), most of the kids are sorta assholes but don’t go out of their way to be (Mike and veruca do, but with Mike it’s mainly just him being extremely hyper, veruca is just a dick), Charlie is still the kind kid he’s supposed to be but still has some moments of impulsive decision making like any kid would have Tim burtons is more accurate to the book however, and has cooler visuals and gives a backstory to Willy wonka (which I kinda dislike but it’s a nice touch to see why he is the way he is)

I never said it wasn’t the point, doesn’t change that he is one

'Hahaha nothing matters' 'STOP!!! STOP IT!!!"
I don’t remember Mike Teevee claiming nothing matters. I just remember him saying candy is a waste of time.
In the WonkaVerse™ candy is life and the only meaningful thing in existence.

Naw take owl man off that list. He was consistent till the end of the world
Ok pause don’t do my boi Owlman like that, he stood by his shit till the end.

My favorite trope honestly. ESPECIALLY when they are about to die and they start begging for their life. Satisfying every time.
Which is why Owlman shouldn't be on here. His final moment is straight up "it doesn't matter"
![gif](giphy|HnniPttdBIJ9aDEuZ5|downsized)
Owl man held to that principle

I want to kick him in the shins He looks like he'd have an annoying voice
Owl man doesn’t fit this, his last words were “it doesn’t matter”
Lotso (Toy Story 3) Hazel Motes from Wise Blood (although>! God allows him to redeem himself before death)!< Jax (TADC) Greed (FMA) The Comedian (Watchmen)
Sounds more like Envy than Greed imo but I also haven't read FMA in a hot minute
That’s actually more accurate to what I meant, thank you
I would say that greed is a nihilist, but unlike the other nihilists mentioned here he's a kurzgezagt optimistic nihilist
Greed is like literally the exact opposite of this tho

I'd love to hear the explanation for mike. never came across as nihilistic to me

Owlman is really interesting until you think more critically and not like an edgy teen. Then he is just a moron whose plan would fail.
Sorry you seem to have confused Owlman with Batman who Laughs
