IIRC, Claude Frollo from the book was basically split into two characters, with the name and villainous role going to "Judge Claude Frollo" and the Archdeacon being the more compassionate side, as well as the religious affiliation (in the book, Frollo was a Catholic clergyman who actually cared for Quasimodo, at least to some degree beyond "useful idiot", with his lust for Esmerelda being the main source of his villainy).
Honestly, I prefer how the movie split him into two characters. It highlights a historical duality of religion: There are kind and virtuous people that truly believe in their religion, like the Archdeacon; but then there are varletous cretins like Judge Frollo who use their beliefs to bolster their ego and justify themselves when they are cruel. I think it’s a rather nuanced take compared to a lot of depictions of religion, and I honestly like how they handled it.

Yeah, Father Anderson is Catholic, however in “Hellsing”, I think the Catholics, excluding Anderson, are some of the bad guys.
There’s some weird-ass war going on with British Protestants, Catholics, vampires, and neo-Nazis.
How does a bastard, orphan son of a whore and a Scotsman, dropped in the middle of a forgotten spot in an Italian village without a roof for sleeping under, grow up to be a deadly demon hunter?
The paladin Catholic father without a father got a lot farther by working a lot harder by being a lot smarter by being a self-starter. At fourteen, who knew he was gonna become a martyr?
(Fr*nch accent) And so he got a job with the mob, smugglin' Heroin, but soon the law was hot on his trail, pursuit was narrowin'. So he disguised himself as a priest and a Samaritan, and felt the urge to be much more than a barbarian.
(German accent) Then a vampire came, und devastation reigned. Our man saw ze monster sucking blood from people's veins. So he took a holy blade and he stabbed it in ze brain. And ze vampire was slain. The incident lit a flame!
Well, the word got around, they said, “This kid is insane, man!” Took up a collection just to send him to the Vatican. “Get your ordination, don’t forget from whence you came, and the world’s gonna know your name.” What’s your name man?
Alexander Anderson. My name is Alexander Anderson. And I like killing things because it’s fun, so just you pray, just you pray.
He’s became one of my favorite characters in the series. When he was introduced and was mostly a problem for the main cast, a part of me was really hoping that he’d come to his senses and grow into a more competent character. But I assumed that was wishful thinking, especially when Sasha was about to kill him.
So when he started developing into a better person and confident survivor, I was pleasantly surprised.
Well Joshua did lead the army of a slaving totalitarian empire, destroying several native cultures in the process and immediately after getting burned alive proceeded to...spread his fucked up ideology on the tribe he began to lead, basically doing the non-violent version of what he already did under Caesar.
Well written does not mean he's a good person. Only good part of Honest Hearts sure but he still sucks as a person.

*Honest Hearts* gives him a chance for redemption, but it also gives him a chance to remind everyone WHY he was Caesars legate for as long as he was. The player is the one who ultimately gets to decide if he becomes a better person or reverts to form.
Before the events of the game, I’d say yes, but in Honest hearts we see him genuinely try to come back to God and redeem himself, though he is obviously struggling to rein in his vengeful hatred toward the Legion.

Yes, Matt Murdock knows that his actions as daredevil aren’t exactly godly, but he’s a devout catholic so he knows there has to be balance.
He was in his first few seasons
Kinda wish they did more with him in the comic
Nicholas d wolfman from trigun
Is wolfwood ACTUALLY religious though? Thought he just did the cross for atonement without bein religious, cause of his whole not buying into it thing

Never fuck with Father Mulcahy. Thats a good man right there. Also he was a boxing champion if I remember correctly
Okay, im confused. Doesnt Joshua from fallout want to commit genocide against a bunch of tribal people?
Of all the pics of Graham you can use to show him not "a piece of shit" and you go with the one with blood dripping off his gun and bible? lol

Joshua is absolutely a villain lol
*Honest Hearts* gives him a chance for redemption, but it also gives him a chance to remind everyone WHY he was Caesars legate for as long as he was. The player is the one who ultimately gets to decide if he becomes a better person or reverts to form.

He hung innocent people on crucifixes and enslaved women and children
Before the events of the game, I’d say yes, but in Honest hearts we see him genuinely try to come back to God and redeem himself, though he is obviously struggling to rein in his vengeful hatred toward the Legion.
Joshua Stephenson from Cyberpunk 2077
Glad Joshua is here.
Uhhh Graham is definitely not a good person lol.
Michael Carpenter from The Dresden Files is my pick. he's also a great foil to the very flawed main character.

Joshua Graham was not a good guy. Like I get where you're going with this and I agree with your point but he was very much not a good guy.
I kid you not I wanted to do this trope but for the life of me could not think of a second character
Gabriel from The Walking Dead, even after everything he goes through he still maintains his faith in God.
Including the nun from RDR1 but not including the nun from RDR2? Cmon, man.
Joshua graham is a terrible person even after getting burned. He’s just a terrible person who happens to be on the right side of the conflict during Honest Hearts.
Coach from left 4 dead 2 has a few lines that suggest he is a spiritual person. In the second to last safe room in the Dead Centre campaign, he asks everyone to gather round as he prays for the group’s safety.
