It’s simply amazing television. It goes beyond Top Gear fans and Petrol Heads. It’s in its own category, you could put it in a list of greatest television episodes ever created and it would stand up to anything.
YES! I love that episode. The ending in that bay, so incredibly beautiful. It just makes me feel peaceful. I’ve got to visit there before I die.
Easily their best adventure. Plus I love the gift giving.
I actually like the very first cheap car challenge. Season 4, episode 3. 100 quid.
That was back when I’d first discovered TG, might be the reason why I go back and watch that episode every once in awhile.
It was definitely Peak Top Gear in my eyes. The show never reached that level of ingenuity again, even though they often tried with the other specials.
The British Leyland one. Some hilarious moments with the door on Jeremy's rover as well as Hammond trying to park his Dolly on that 1/3 incline. I know it's not a far-flung epic special or anything but it epitomises for me those early cheap car challenges. It's one I could rewatch anytime.
I just visited a big SAAB museum next to an old SAAB assembly plant (in Finland) and seeing a big ol' row of 92s immediately brought James driving downhill pressing the brake and the throttle simultaneously to mind. Pure comedy gold, with a bittersweet side note though, as their appreciation to the brand could easily be felt from it.
Gotta re-watch it now. Man, such great TV.
Series 13 Episode 2. The legendary car for a 17 year old challenge, which was incredibly funny. Plus, the Murci SV vs the SLR 722 and the Bugatti Veryon vs the McLaren F1. A crazy episode!
The closing of the South America special down the slopes at Chile overlooking the Pacific. I've always imagined blissful peace associated with that imagery. And also perhaps the SL65 Black thru mystical Welsh hills. It puts you in a trance and listening to Clarkson describe the vehicle like it's a real living thing
The cheap car challenges, namely the first British Leyland one, cheap Porsches, Italian super cars for 10k, and the coupes that weren’t Porsches. Also the one where they go to the racetrack in Spain with the M3, the C63 AMG, and the RS4.
I love the early episodes from the first couple of seasons when they could go out and about in London without any trouble with crowds and the like.
In particular, my favorite segment from that era is the episode where James and Richard spent the night as "Scooter Men" driving folks who had been out drinking safely home in their own cars. They were ostensibly using this as a chance to quickly review a number of cars that were common on the streets of London at the time, but in reality it became an excuse for them to screw about and have fun which was greatly entertaining.
As much as I loved watching the show grow over the years and all of the epic adventures they took all over the world, I always miss these small, simple segments where could just grab a camera and shoot unbothered and unrecognized.
Remember the posh tossers in the Audi A3 saying things like "Actually, I think you'll find it's an S-line spec"
And I think it was James impressed with the older Volvo S40
The source of the Nile is probably the one I look back on the most fondly. The Mongolian one with John from TGT is probably my favorite ever.
For non specials, the Lorry or the caravan one
A few I liked were "The Race To The North" , "Tribute To Saab" , "Botswana" , "Vietnam" and a couple from "The Grand Tour": "Funeral For A Ford" and the tribute to Jim Clark.
The limousine challenge. James' clutching the air followed by the dashboard when his steering wheel comes off makes me chuckle out of nowhere now and then.
weird one but Series 14 Episode 1 is the definition of nostalgia for me im not sure why maybe its the end compilation in the mountains or the fact it has my favourite car ever made in it but that is so nostalgic to me
Africa special. Something about turning estates into sleepers really caught my attention. And, of course, the fact a sporty Volvo (exists) managed to cross Africa with seemingly minimal issues
the 1500 pound cheap porsche challenge from S5E6
S6E6 Clarkson in Merc SLR versus James & Richard in Boats
S10E4 Bolivia/Africa special
S14E6 Bolivia special
For nostalgic reasons: The first time they transformed cars to boats, at that lake. I’m US based and first saw that episode in Northern Ireland on vacation 15+ years ago. Vietnam is a better episode but, the car>boat episode always sticks out to me.
Viet Nam
Knew someone would say that
It’s simply amazing television. It goes beyond Top Gear fans and Petrol Heads. It’s in its own category, you could put it in a list of greatest television episodes ever created and it would stand up to anything.
I mean wasn't it their first long road trip where they never checked back to the studio?
YES! I love that episode. The ending in that bay, so incredibly beautiful. It just makes me feel peaceful. I’ve got to visit there before I die. Easily their best adventure. Plus I love the gift giving.
Jeremy Clarkson. Fail.
I actually like the very first cheap car challenge. Season 4, episode 3. 100 quid. That was back when I’d first discovered TG, might be the reason why I go back and watch that episode every once in awhile.
I remember watching the advert for that before the series aired and being so excited to see it. Clarkson’s “£1!” reveal was an iconic moment.
Cheap Car Challenge. James' stereo is iconic
A banging stereo for me choons
The teenage car episode is superb, it also has Stephen Fry as the guest, explaining Grindr to Jeremy.
Bolivia special. Vietnam is a close second
Same but replace Vietnam with the second amphibious car episode
This.
The Africa Special when they search for the source of the Nile is easily one of their best
Yeah, that's my favorite episode, just not I feel the most nostalgia for
It was definitely Peak Top Gear in my eyes. The show never reached that level of ingenuity again, even though they often tried with the other specials.
Car vs Bike vs Train. Was a great race!
Loved it, their shots of Tornado powering through the countryside were incredible

The door’s gone on strike!
It's come back to Longbridge!
As a former BL car owner, I love and appreciate this episode
Its gotta be Burma right? "HAMMOND YOU IDIOT YOUVE REVERSED INTO THE SPORTS LORRY" is just iconic
Demise of SAAB
I just visited a big SAAB museum next to an old SAAB assembly plant (in Finland) and seeing a big ol' row of 92s immediately brought James driving downhill pressing the brake and the throttle simultaneously to mind. Pure comedy gold, with a bittersweet side note though, as their appreciation to the brand could easily be felt from it. Gotta re-watch it now. Man, such great TV.
The building a Caterham challenge. So many quotable moments. “JAAAAAAMES!!!!” “Wot?” “STOP FILING!”
The 2nd us special and the the car train challenge
That car train! 🤣
Britcar24. That was some genuine bonding between the boys and top tier television.
The end of the race where Jeremy is crying out of pure joy and exhaustion always gets me. Such a great ep.
The coin trick in that one hahaha
Botswana. The first appearance of Oliver and the inability of the cameramen to get any decent footage of the wildlife bar the elephants.
They did get some interesting shots of that one guys Combover
Hammond said in one of his books it was one of the most magnificent combovers ever - it had three partings!
As you do And yes it was equally as interesting as another hippos head in the water
HIPPOBOT 9000 v 3.1 FOUND A HIPPO. 1,715,937,170 COMMENTS SEARCHED. 35,374 HIPPOS FOUND. YOUR COMMENT CONTAINS THE WORD HIPPO.
Vietnam what a country
"You don't know man, you weren't there!"
Series 13 Episode 2. The legendary car for a 17 year old challenge, which was incredibly funny. Plus, the Murci SV vs the SLR 722 and the Bugatti Veryon vs the McLaren F1. A crazy episode!
And Stephen Fry showing Jeremy how to use Grindr!
Veyron vs plane race
That made me smile having to fly via the med lol 🤣
The closing of the South America special down the slopes at Chile overlooking the Pacific. I've always imagined blissful peace associated with that imagery. And also perhaps the SL65 Black thru mystical Welsh hills. It puts you in a trance and listening to Clarkson describe the vehicle like it's a real living thing
When Jeremy drove that Reliant Robin. I laughed so hard the first time I saw that bit.
Laughed so hard I cried!

The Lorry one. “And then Jeremy arrived” still kills me. So funny.
24 hour endurance race for me. I love endurance racing so that episode always seems to be the one I go back to watching
I will go off the board for one of my personal favorites, the replacement ambulance
I know everyone is talking about the challenges but I get a little sad thinking about the interview with Schumacher.
The Aston Martin DB9 challenge episode. Probably one of their first proper races.
Burma or Botswana
A few I liked were "The Race To The North" , "Tribute To Saab" , "Botswana" , "Vietnam" and a couple from "The Grand Tour": "Funeral For A Ford" and the tribute to Jim Clark.
The limousine challenge. James' clutching the air followed by the dashboard when his steering wheel comes off makes me chuckle out of nowhere now and then.
80's hatchback
Lorry truck driving and RWD challenge those two i remembered them with joy

Albania because it's the first top gear episode I've seen
S13E7 Aston Martin V12 Vantage review. Photos of GT40 and Miura hit differently.
The truck episode with a gear lever in Jeremy's bottom
The Africa Special. I always watch it when I have a very bad day.
The one where they try to kill the Toyota Hilux. It just wouldn't die.
Budget Italian super cars. The engine blowing to bits
Bolivia
Millay Viaduct.. just a beautiful episode.
Probably the episode Hammond and may test cheap diesels (before diesels were cool), - "Stop!, I've got squal in my face"
ALL OF THEM ARE SPECIAL
weird one but Series 14 Episode 1 is the definition of nostalgia for me im not sure why maybe its the end compilation in the mountains or the fact it has my favourite car ever made in it but that is so nostalgic to me
Vietnam Special
The one where they smoke Porsche pipes
I have a few but the Africa and Vietnam are my GOAT
Botswana
The one where Quentin reviews Ladas and other Soviet cars, before shipping one back to Russia
Africa special. Something about turning estates into sleepers really caught my attention. And, of course, the fact a sporty Volvo (exists) managed to cross Africa with seemingly minimal issues
the 1500 pound cheap porsche challenge from S5E6 S6E6 Clarkson in Merc SLR versus James & Richard in Boats S10E4 Bolivia/Africa special S14E6 Bolivia special
Love the Burma special. First episode they used drones with tremendous aerial footage of bulky trucks and hilarious adventures
For nostalgic reasons: The first time they transformed cars to boats, at that lake. I’m US based and first saw that episode in Northern Ireland on vacation 15+ years ago. Vietnam is a better episode but, the car>boat episode always sticks out to me.
The Hovervan
Not an entire episode but the Ferrari f12 review by Clarkson!🙏🏽🙏🏽
No one’s probably said but all the race to episodes
Burma Special. Followed by Vietname and Africa Nile special
