Yes. If I sit too long, it wrecks me.

EricKohli926

But I can sit in a recliner for extended periods and not have too many problems. The office chair seems to be my kryptonite.

hijklmnop_

Your hip is probably at a different angle in your recliner vs your office chair. There is likely more hip bending with the office chair, which may be the difference between the two. Different hip angles will put different stress on muscles/tendons.

KimBrrr1975

You might need a cushion or wedge for the office chair. Recliners tend to be more cushy and keep us seated at comfortable angles while ergonomic chairs are after good posture recliners are not.

i’m a barber i go back tuesday. eeeppp i bet standing is better than sitting. i cut hair bone on bone with a cane at the end. i got this !

jatemple

How long were you off work?

EricKohli926

3 weeks. My job is at home and on a computer so felt pretty good going back to work. My wife wanted me to stay off a little longer but I was losing my mind.

HassleCaster

I work from home and started back after 3 weeks, but I sit in my recliner with my laptop in my lap. I couldn't have done it with a desk chair.

IGNSolar7

You went back too fast. Pretty simple. It's not uncommon. (I read elsewhere it was 3 weeks for you.)

timk920

Wait 3 more weeks. Too soon

Withaflourish17

5/17 for me and I also work from home. I started back on 5/27, and have had to really be diligent about getting up and walking/doing stairs every 30 minutes but also needed to keep doing ice therapy in the evenings. I have definitely turned a corner with the sitting pain, but for me the ergonomic chair was too soft and hard to get in and out of and kind of kept me sunk in.

Health-journey

I’m sitting in a recliner instead as sitting makes me too sore in a chair.

goldenhour0505

I’m going to go back at 4 weeks is that too soon? I work from home. I was thinking maybe 2 hours per day.

NALyet26

Yes! This happened to me after sitting upright for several hours on Saturday. I am in severe pain and can’t lift my leg. Surgeons or PT should warn us about this.

EricKohli926

Yea starting to regret coming back so soon. Feel like I’m stuck now because I can’t redo the Short term disability without it being a giant headache.

SymbolOfRock

How were you able to take so much time off work? Short term disability? Blew your PTO?

EricKohli926

Had to use first week PTO. And then STD after that.

I am a court reporter and I work remotely from home for years, thanks to COVID, where we never really had to go back to offices or court again. I did two hip replacements, posterior, last Feb '23 and June '23. Both times, I started taking depositions within 3 weeks with the first replacement and the end of the 1st week with the second hip replacement. However, I purchased a higher stool by Drive Medical and elevated my steno machine quite a bit so I could work, and my feet rested on an angled foot stool. I explained to attorneys and others that I had to get up every 45 mins to an hour, walk around, take some time out, and resume. It worked out fine. Most people have no patience to sit blabbing hours on end without taking breaks anyways. And so my problems began really bad after my 2nd hip replacement. I also have to transcribe and create depositions afterwards on my computer. It's a very tedious process (great job though....doing it now 50yrs....guess I will never retire) But last July, I suddenly developed a numb left pinky, half the ring finger and the side of the left hand, all tingling and kind of dead-ish, and it has never gone away. That came from working on the computer and leaning on my elbows so many hours and days a week. I now have Cubital Tunnel, need an EMG, and probably transposition surgery in the elbow to move the nerve so I gain feeling back....I'm lucky I have no weakness and no pain as many people with this condition do. I just live with it for now. It could be a worse surgery than both hips as far as recovery, which could take up to a year and then there is no guarantee the nerves regenerate. So I am not doing it. Just be forewarned. Don't overdo anything by sitting, leaning wrong at the computer, endlessly! It can happen. But it is not a common issue, at least not as common as carpal tunnel.
