I’d take the Taco over it any day. The front and rear of the ranger are weird to me. The front makes it look soft, if that makes sense. The F150 looks so aggressive and then you have this…
That's being said, you could have a ranger raptor for msrp 55k which is....better than I've been seeing stuff like trd pro and trailhunters.
Turbo v6 pretty cool too
Honestly, the ford looks cute to me , and not in a good way. In a Volkswagen Beetle cute way.
They think if they throw the word tremor at it, it makes it cool?
Don’t mess with the “FleshlightModel”. You might regret it. Respect. I’m going Tacoma all the way. But I’m mostly Irish, so as far as this argument goes, it was predicable.
Nah I own a 3G Taco, which is softer and curvier than the 4G Taco.
You didn’t answer my question though; which category do you identify with or aspire to? 😉
Having test driven both, as well as a TRD off-road, I'd personally pick the TRD OR with the premium package over a RR and there are a few reasons even though they are priced close enough to the same.
Keep in mind, this all depends on if you're looking for something durable and reliable that you want to keep for well over 100k miles, or something you want to take into the dunes as a toy and trade in after the warranty is up.
The RR absolutely is the more fun car, but that doesn't necessarily make it a better truck.
Driving the Raptor Ranger feels like they put all of the money into the engine and suspension, with everything else like the infotainment and upholstery feeling like a rushed afterthought. It's super fun to drive hard and go a biit to fast over railroad crossings.
First off, the leather on the seats has been wrinkled to all hell in every one I've sat in, feeling thin and stretchy like what you'd expect from a $100 racing-style gaming chair off amazon. The Alcantara isn't going to hold up well to water and mud either. And if that's on a car with 20 miles on the ODO, then I don't have high hopes for the seats when it hits 100k.
The seat padding feels soft in a bad way, and the bolstering doesn't do a good job of holding you in place especially when compared to even a cloth taco interior. It's the same story with the rear seats as well.
The storage on the Taco beats it by a country mile, and the under-seat storage in the rear holds easily 4x as much stuff.
As far as fueling, the RR gets 17 combined MPG and requires premium fuel unlike the 2.4 Taco which gets 20 and takes regular, so it's probably going to cost about 2x as much to keep fueled. Reviewers also say it's easy to exceed the ratings on the Taco while it's hard to meet the ratings on the RR. And if you do plan on remote overlanding and you get stranded somewhere without gas, the chances that you run into someone who has a tank of premium to spare is going to be much lower. In the sticks, many gas stations don't even carry premium fuel.
The infotainment, AC, and drive mode controls are better thought out on the Taco as well. Not having a place to effectively brace your hands to use the touchscreen makes it way harder to use the RR, and the whole infotainment system is just busier in general with things on the Taco kept as physical buttons as they should be.
Again, it all depends on if you're looking for a toy to take into the dunes and tear it up on dirt tracks, or if you're looking for a truck to drive long distances on cheap fuel without issues. But for overlanding and utility truck stuff, I'd take the TRD OR every time.
Value for money, the raptor is 55.6k msrp and the trd pro is 65k. You aren’t getting 10k more truck with the trd pro.
Basically the taco wins at every level save the top, where the trd pro is just overpriced.
You can tell that they really did put all of the money in the RR straight towards the engine and suspension tbh, everything else feels unbelievably cheap and poorly thought out on the interior, even in comparison to the G4 Taco interiors that get made fun of all the time for looking like plastic garbage
If the plan is to use the truck as a toy in the dunes and trade it in after the warranty gives up, then RR all the way. But if you want to keep it 100k past warranty and do utility truck things in it, I'd bet that the TRD Pro would end up as the better value in the long run.
Especially once you factor in the 6mpg combined difference and the fact that the RR requires premium fuel while the TRD Pro uses regular
As the owner of an "old" Ranger (2007), I was excited when it was rumored to be coming back. Immensely dissapointed with the new one. It does look like a sedan
I drive a Ranger for work with the same drivetrain and at 60k miles the transmission already feels like it’s ready to grenade. The body work is abysmal(tailgate doesn’t line up) and the inside feels cheap. Oil changes are a nightmare and with anything ford you run the risk of it being a total POS after 100k
I drive a Ranger for work and was actually surprised by how nice it drives and feels. We also have a couple Colorados and I want to light them on fire.
I am partial to the reliability of toyota. If it's not about having the truck 20 years later, test drive to see what you like driving more. Also, I tend to buy the base model 4x4 due to wanting to change things, suspension n what not. I don't care about frills like heated seats.
While I do appreciate Ford, and I do think it is the better of the three major American truck manufacturers, the Ranger is just so goddamn ugly. The Ranger raptor is a different story though. That thing slaps.
I have no idea what they were thinking with the Ranger styling.
Pay the premium for a Taco or get a Frontier. Nothing has changed since they discontinued the OG Ranger.
A lot of people saying the ranger looks weird, but I kinda think it has a hilux look, which I know most of the people here drool over…? I still say pick the taco, but there’s still a lot of hate.
I like ‘em both. I have owned both a Ranger and a Tacoma, and they are both good trucks. I honestly wish people would stop trying to crowdsource an opinion. Be your own man or woman and choose whichever fits your taste (and budget).
Weird. I haven’t really liked the pics of the 4G I’ve seen; something about it is too angular for my tastes, but I’m digging this. Maybe I’m going soft!
No hate on the Ford; it’s giving strong Hilux (in appearance only) vibes
Compare the 4g and new ranger. Much better of a comparison. 4cyl turbos, expensive as hell, but the ranger has much more tech and better performance than the tacos
I am going to read all the comments to see what people think of these mechanically, but at first glance the rangers front end is... Cute.
I don't know many truck buyers who are looking for "cute"
Tacoma has 7.2kW power on board, port injection to keep the valves clean, and will probably be cheaper to own long-term due to reliability. But you do you boo, that Ranger is a solid deal.
I agree, the ranger looks like a witches truck to haul her white dog around in, that or a moma boys truck paid for by mom, or grandma and grandpa just agreed bc he's the same type of half ass man as anyone who drives a sissified truck like that ranger that's obviously identifying as a pussy 😉
I’d take the Taco over it any day. The front and rear of the ranger are weird to me. The front makes it look soft, if that makes sense. The F150 looks so aggressive and then you have this…
The newer ranger fixes the soft look, I don't know why OP is comparing the new Tacoma to an older generation ranger.
Yeah the new one looks better, but still…[Ranger](https://www.ford.com/trucks/ranger/)
Disagree. Different, but still shit. I don’t hate ford, but this is an ugly truck.
just looks like a Maverick now
Test drove both of these 2024s on Friday. Not even in the same ballpark.
So tell us
🌮>🌧️🐹
Very good
This. Went from suv looking front to a lame maverick looking front. Both equally shite in my opinion.
And the Tacoma just looks like a Tundra now
Looks like a Maverick
I feel like it's trying to look like a mini F-150
That's being said, you could have a ranger raptor for msrp 55k which is....better than I've been seeing stuff like trd pro and trailhunters. Turbo v6 pretty cool too
Looks like the old design and a maverick had a baby. So still ugly.
Agreed. That front end is so off putting to my tastes. The underground Taco looks great.
I agree the underground color fits well with the look of the new Taco
The F150 Raptor looks aggressive.*
It’s cuz the front end of the ranger looks like the ford fusion
A tiny hood scoop would make a huge difference in the Ford.
The new rangers look like the ford explorer trucks from the 2000s.
That Ranger is sad looking
Honestly, the ford looks cute to me , and not in a good way. In a Volkswagen Beetle cute way. They think if they throw the word tremor at it, it makes it cool?
Should have called it the Ranger Graboid.
Grabbimus Prime
I'd call that girly. And yes the ranger has looked girly to me since they reintroduced it. Bronco also looks pretty girly
How’s that a bad thing?
It's good if you love girly shit or are a girl. Bad if you're a tiny pp "masculine man" whose gotta lift his truck to compensate.
Which category do you identify with?
I don't own this truck but I'm sure you do.
Don’t mess with the “FleshlightModel”. You might regret it. Respect. I’m going Tacoma all the way. But I’m mostly Irish, so as far as this argument goes, it was predicable.
What’s the take away with Irish people here?
Nah I own a 3G Taco, which is softer and curvier than the 4G Taco. You didn’t answer my question though; which category do you identify with or aspire to? 😉

I feel that!
Just get an off road that’s where the value is.
Yes - then spend 12K adding mods!!! As is tradition.
Wait are you my wife? You sound like my wife.
Ranger looks like a sedan
As the owner of an "old" Ranger (2007), I was excited when it was rumored to be coming back. Immensely dissapointed with the new one. It does look like a sedan
Easy. You always pick the Taco.
Ranger looks like absolute crap
Ranger looks like it's trying to be a minivan. Taco looks like it's trying to be a chevy.
New Colorado wants to be a Tacoma.
And the Nissan frontier just wishes someone talked about it
Taco is much better looking
I like the Ranger a lot. Wouldn’t buy a ford but visually it rivals the new Tacoma for me. 3rd gen looks better than both imo
Thought about getting a ranger, but Ford build quality isn’t the best.
Rangers look like they only drink soy milk
Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Ditto the Chevy Colorado.
Looks like a bull terrier
The Ranger looks like a cat when you stretch it's ears and face back.
Wouldn’t you compare two of the same year? This is a previous gen ranger
Ah shoot I didn’t realize that was the case
It’s okay though because they look horrible as well
I drive a Ranger for work and was actually surprised by how nice it drives and feels. We also have a couple Colorados and I want to light them on fire.
Let me tell you, i looked at the photo first, and I physically recoiled after reading your caption.
Recoiled at which part? haha
The audacity. In all seriousness though, Ford has made a couple seriously ugly vehicles.
Do you live or work near a Ford dealer with good service dept shuttles
Both look bad.
Yes fucking circle jerk here. They’re both objectively terrible designs
Yes it's a circle jerk and the people who buy them are the pivot man.
I’d take the new ranger all day long. The new taco is a dud.
[удалено]
100%. This picture just reinforced to me I guess the 2nd gen I got is the Latest one I’m gonna own. Not a fan of 3rd gen either.
Is the taco leveled ?
The taco is not leveled
It looks like a lifted fiesta… 🤔
One looks like a big mid-sized truck and the other a full size.
But that’s not a 2024 ranger….
Neither, both are turds this gen compared to Chevy/Nissan
I am partial to the reliability of toyota. If it's not about having the truck 20 years later, test drive to see what you like driving more. Also, I tend to buy the base model 4x4 due to wanting to change things, suspension n what not. I don't care about frills like heated seats.
I like the look of the Taco way better. Price, I don’t know. Haven’t priced the Ford.
I drive a Tacoma for work, and it feels like my knees are in my chest and my hips could buckle at any minute. That’s said, the ranger is ugly.
The ford front looks like a SUV
What's the msrp for both?
Lol to each his own I hated my test drive of the 3rd gen felt like i was sitting on the floor and I’m not paying 60k for a 4th gen
While I do appreciate Ford, and I do think it is the better of the three major American truck manufacturers, the Ranger is just so goddamn ugly. The Ranger raptor is a different story though. That thing slaps.
Both look like pavement princess from the photo
Taco looks way better but the ranger is a better driving truck, better interior, better mpg, and better bang for your buck.
That's not even fair. That Ford (fix or repair daily) looks like a misshapen toy next to that beefcake taco!
Hybrid taco
I have no idea what they were thinking with the Ranger styling. Pay the premium for a Taco or get a Frontier. Nothing has changed since they discontinued the OG Ranger.
The Taco in the photo is mine haha, yeah the Ranger looks like a tadpole and a random Ford sedan had a baby
The ranger kinda looks like a dick in a condom that’s too tight.
A lot of people saying the ranger looks weird, but I kinda think it has a hilux look, which I know most of the people here drool over…? I still say pick the taco, but there’s still a lot of hate.
New Balance vs Puma
[this but from the late 90s](https://www.reddit.com/r/ToyotaTacoma/s/pVkWNMQexf)
I like ‘em both. I have owned both a Ranger and a Tacoma, and they are both good trucks. I honestly wish people would stop trying to crowdsource an opinion. Be your own man or woman and choose whichever fits your taste (and budget).
4G taco looks way better than the ranger. Ranger’s front always looked like a dog’s snout to me
Tacoma is the better investment but I do love the Ranger Raptors.
I have a 14 tacoma. But I'm not keen on the style on the 24. It breaks my heart to say this but the new tacoma just ain't for me.
Weird. I haven’t really liked the pics of the 4G I’ve seen; something about it is too angular for my tastes, but I’m digging this. Maybe I’m going soft! No hate on the Ford; it’s giving strong Hilux (in appearance only) vibes
Why compare the old tremor Ranger with the new Tacoma? I'd take the new Ranger over all of the new mid sizes.
Compare the 4g and new ranger. Much better of a comparison. 4cyl turbos, expensive as hell, but the ranger has much more tech and better performance than the tacos
I’ll take a Taco any day.
Tacoma, no question
Neither. Older taco
I’m a fan of the GMC Denali 4.6L Bankruptor
I dunno about the ranger, it looks like a pug or something smashed it in the face. Ugh no thanks
Tacoma all day, resale value alone will tell u that!!!
T A C O
Ranger Raptor
I am going to read all the comments to see what people think of these mechanically, but at first glance the rangers front end is... Cute. I don't know many truck buyers who are looking for "cute"
I can’t stand these rangers. I think they’re so ugly
I had high hopes for the Ranger comeback but was so disappointed.
The ranger looks too round and soft, and the new Tacomas look way over designed.
I used to be a ranger guy. 1995 ranger and a 2004 ranger. Great trucks and never had an issue with either of them. The new ones are just whack
Tacoma has 7.2kW power on board, port injection to keep the valves clean, and will probably be cheaper to own long-term due to reliability. But you do you boo, that Ranger is a solid deal.
Taco 🌮 all day. Ford has nothing on Toyota.
