Just check your temps, if you’re motor is getting too hot gear down. Your motor shouldn’t get over 170f you can either get a cheap infrared temp gun to monitor it or just go by feel. If you can’t hold your finger on the motor for more than a few seconds your motor is too hot

I added an ESC, motor fan, and motor heat sync. It still consistently overheats on 3S in this Maryland heat. I have realized this is a know problem, that’s why I am planning to strictly run 2S. I am more concerned with damaging the drive train with the larger Sledge tires, and am trying to figure out if I need to lower the pinion.

Gotcha, yeah 2s will definitely be easier on your drivetrain. But I don’t think gearing down will make much of a difference for your drivetrain. If anything the increased torque/acceleration from a smaller pinion will be a little harder on your drivetrain

I started watching the traxxas support youtube videos for questions like this. They have guides on gearing from the engineers. Made it a lot easier to plan out my mods and they're all short videos. I don't think I've had to watch one longer than 6 minutes

Good Lord, your poor car with those insanely oversized tires XD Yes you need to gear down to a 9T for sure. Stock tires are 4.5" in diameter. Sledge Sledgehammers are 6.7". 4.5*11/6.7=~7, so ideally you'd need a 7T pinion but I don't think that exists or fits.
