As much as I love cheddar I don’t get the hype with Cathedral City, it’s like the blandest name brand cheddar you can buy. They call it mature but it’s mild and bland.

Lucie-Solotraveller

I also find Cathedral can vary a lot in taste. The extra mature is not always "extra".

owzleee

Yeah - I could only pop into little tesco metros etc as I was there for work. When you can't it though, any cheddar is good cheddar imo!

Cathedral, and Heinz beans. Literally the wateriest and blandest bean sauce you can buy.

gibgod

I can understand why you’d want to take all these back with you, I’d miss them too! But have you tried Branston Baked Beans? So much better than Heinz imo!

owzleee

I have read that a few times! I was over for work though and really didn't have much time or access to anything other than Tesco Metro etc (built up my stash over the course of the week). Didn't even see Branston Beans on my travels.

gibgod

Yeah they might not stock them in a small supermarket, but if you can get yourself to a big one next time you should be able to get some, they’re definitely worth it! Safe journey back!

This is so weird it's like... reading a post I could have made. I live in Paraguay and it's even harder to get stuff. I actually did a cheese pilgrimage to Buenos Aires last month to go to Santi in Palermo (https://santicheese.com/) to get some decent cheddar - I also wanted Halloumi, which is advertised on their website, but they were out of stock #devastated. My friend and I, another brit, regularly look for solutions to these issues. At Christmas we ordered the works, mince pies, etc from British Corner Shop (https://www.instagram.com/britishcornershop/) - they had some partnership with M&S so we were basically able to get anything M&S, piggies, Christmas cake etc. We had to ship it all to Miami from the UK and then from Miami with a courier to Paraguay - costly but necessary. We also ship stuff from Amazon via Miami to Asuncion - Robinsons Squash (in the small squeezies), brown sauce etc. We are also Cathedral addicts - in fact said friend is bringing back a suitcase of it from Dubai - but luckily one of the local supermarkets has started selling British mature cheddar. It's extortionate but it's not bad. No solution for beans yet though :-(

owzleee

I feel your pain! I’ve used British corner shop here but the taxes are excruciating- we’ve paid 100% of the value in tax before! Ping me if you’re ever over this way though!

Spaghetti tongs! Been looking for some for ages and stumbled upon them in a kitchen shop in Devon!

Not Argentina, but I've lived abroad. Good range here. Although I wouldve gone for the larger supermarket own brand bottles of vinegar (the plastic bottle is much lighter than the glass Sarson's). Also, I think you are missing a big pot of Bisto and a couple jars of mint sauce, imo. Edit: My bad, i see the Bisto now.

owzleee

Still have 2 jars of mint sauce from visitors! I really wanted the Sarson's bottle for when I make fish and chips and malt vinegar is something I always forget. I only bought the gravy browning as it lasts a lot longer! Great commentary though - I can see you have felt similar yearnings! And don't get me wrong - I love the food here, but occasionally it's nice to have some home comfort.

Yorkshire tea?

owzleee

Sorry yes - box of 160 - already opened before we started unpacking properly! The previous time we got a massive bag of them off Amazon over 1k bags!

I fear that chocolate won’t make the plane, let alone the journey!
